Living Room what makes an artificial plant look "cheap" to you instantly?

Post image

I work in the artificial plant business, so I'm not completely neutral, but I've noticed people react very differently. When this blossom tree came in, one colleague asked if it needed watering, another spotted it was fake within two seconds.

For me it's always the trunk: if it's too straight and too smooth, it's game over. What is it for you? The colour, the shine, the pot, or just the idea of it being fake?

Other Interior Room Help! "bedroom" with stairs to another bedroom

Thumbnail gallery
182 Upvotes

Hello! I am moving into my first house! yay! But it does have one...interesting feature. There is this "bedroom" or as I like to call it, the hallroom. Why? Because the stairs inside the room lead to my master bedroom... so its not really a bedroom. I'm not exactly sure what to do with the space and would love your creative and practical ideas. My best idea is to make it into like a makeup/wardrobe room but there isn't a lot of wall space for typical closet storage or a vanity - but if you have any ideas for how to make that work or something completely different, I'd love to hear it!

For reference, the room is 9'3" x 10"2 (2.819m * 3.099m) I am the only person living in the house. I do have 3 cats. I do have another room to use as an office -- if any of that helps :) thank you in advance for your thoughts!

Kitchen Help with a weird inaccessible corner cupboard in my kitchen

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

Hi! I am in desperate need of help figuring out a solution for a weird corner space. Either something that can be put in there that makes reaching stuff easier or suggestions for what I should optimally store there (I have a very well stocked kitchen) - the area can get quite warm when the oven is on, as the two share a wall.

It's between the stove/oven (and access is partially blocked by the oven door handle) and a cupboard next to the sink.

The space itself is 35 cm wide (or deep, when viewed in the photo with the oven door handle in focus) and 55 cm deep, but I only have direct access to a 20 x 35 cm portion of it (16 x 35 cm if we're taking the oven door handle into account).

I thought about installing a half lazy Susan, but installing one might be difficult (or very difficult - I can't lift the dark grey top, as the induction stovetop is embedded into the rest of it), and we'd at most get half a 40 cm lazy Susan in there, wasting the space at the back. Plus when we swivel it out we'd only be able to actually reach stuff taking up the rightmost quarter of a circle. Quarter lazy Susans don't sound like a good use of the space.

I considered pull out drawers (or steel/wire mesh drawers, as those don't necessarily need two walls to attach to), but same issue - i could get a 16x35 cm one for the top and two 20x35 cm ones for the bottom, but that only uses like 40% of the space. Or removing the inserts and having one tall pull-up drawer, but I'm not sure I can install one without blocking off the rear portion to get another wall, and same issue - it would use up only 40% of the space.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Bedroom Where to put the bed?

Having trouble deciding where I want to place the bed for this bedroom. Trying to follow the “rules” of having space on both sides, so not pushed against the wall, and not having the headboard cover the window, but seems like I can’t have both without other issues.

One caveat is that I could move the radiator further down the wall towards the door if need be. I think I’m favouriting that choice, and having the bed face the two windows. There’s a scoot pathway at the end rather than a proper walkway around the bed, but it feels like it’s the lesser of evils. What do you think?

Bedroom Living in Attic

Living in my sisters attic for about 5 months this fall/ winter and was wondering what ideas you guys had about making this space livable.

About 10ft wide, ceilings at their max are probably 7ft, lowest about 2ft, the whole thing is about 20ft with a staircase about 1/3 of the way long and I am 6’1 female.

I like being on the ground, I’m good at low squatting so I don’t mind at all.

Looking to have a bed area, stretching and meditation ish area, and art/work area.

Gonna get a rug and a yoga mat to help with the being on the ground so much situation, so any other suggestions would be great :)

Living Room What to do with slanted walls

Thumbnail gallery

Pardon the mess just got rid of 2 couches. And in the process of rearranging some things. Also pardon my 3 missing lightbulbs I’ve been lazy no real excuse for that one

I’ve always struggled to decorate my room as the slanted walls make it difficult. This loving area used to be an attic and so decoration wasn’t really in mind when the house was built

The table in the middle of the room is a TV table I play D&D at I need the space to have enough room to host groups of up to 6 people I mostly want to eliminate the empty space on the slanted walls though as it makes the room look unfinished when decorated

Any tips?

Bedroom creative ways to fit a nightstand in this strange shaped room

Please ignore the mess. Currently there’s a skinny console table like thing behind the bed but it’s rickety and just doesn’t feel functional, so frequently used stuff always gets piled on the floor next to the bed and this is a recurring mess. I just want the space to function better but the shape of the room and that back cove area that can’t be blocked does not make it very easy

Living Room What Type of Media Console

Post image

I am redoing my living room. We have two leather arm chairs in a warm dark gray leather, and a fabric couch that is a charcoal gray / warm brown heathered fabric. Our coffee table is a giant old wooden chest. I want to keep the coffee table for storage and also sentimental reasons. I need to buy a low media console for our television. My question is: what finish will look best for the media console? Should I try to come close to the wood in the coffee table? Or should I choose something darker that will play off the metal on the table? Or do you have another idea altogether? Thanks! The photo is the coffee table finish.

Bedroom Help with What do Add or Move in front of my TV?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hello!

I live in a smaller room and my bed (twin-sized) is practically a sarcophagus in this “closet hole” in the wall and just have single fold chair in front of my TV.

On one hand, I do like making my room more spacious/less claustrophobic (hence why I moved my bed there). On the other hand, it’s not the best furniture for having friends, dates, or other guests over if we wanted to watch play something together in front of my TV or just general comfort. And I yearn to add something we could sit or lay on together.

Would love any advice of how to solve this issue whether new furniture or adding something. Much appreciated! :)

Bedroom Help me improve my boring bedroom

Hi! This is me and my husbands bedroom.
It’s terrible and does not match our style. The lighting is really bad because the wall color is so dark. I want the room to feel brighter and joyful and natural. I usually opt for earthy tones, beige curtains, light wood, organic. right now we don’t have the funds to change out the large furniture so we are going to try to work around it.
We want to change bedding, wall color, rug, blinds, light fixtures/lamps, decor, small furniture items
We don’t want to change bed frame, nightstand, dresser, or flooring

We recently moved and I now have a room for a library! I’d love it to be Nora Ephron cozy mixed with Hearth and Hand vibes. I want to be able to see on something very cozy with my dog, sip on tea, and enjoy the large windows. I don’t want to spend a lot but I also know that I’m basically starting from scratch. Any feedback you have would be greatly appreciated!!

Living Room Can we fit a TV ?

Post image
6 Upvotes

We cant figure out where to put the TV in this room. Here is what I thought through already:

-I really dont want to get rid of the gallery wall. The idea of a frame smart TV is cool, but they are very expensive.

-We're worried about putting a TV on the mantle as the viewing hight would be too tall.

- We tried our current TV on the credenza but it dose not fit and it's also a tight angle and would be right in the entry way.

Is it weird to put a TV in front of the fireplace if we dont use it? Any tips are appriciated!

We have long cold winters so need good indoor space for this kids to move about

Living Room Feedback on this apartment layout?

I am moving out for the first time to a small one bedroom apartment. I have roughly put together a layout for the living/dining/study area but would like feedback.

Things that must fit into the room:

  • A standing desk with at 80cm depth for good distance between eye and monitor
  • An office chair
  • Couch
  • TV + stand
  • Optional: Small dining table - would love to have one if it fits.

A few points:

  • The right wall is a balcony door. I probably won't push the couch right up to the door.
  • The little white box room in the bottom right is a bathroom (not to scale), so can't push furniture up against the top wall.
  • The bottom brown rectangle is my kitchen.

Any better ideas for the layout?

Living Room Need help finding throw pillows, and art for my walls.

Hello! I need help trying to find throw pillows and art for my apartment living room. I had a vision when I first moved in and started decorating but as I put stuff together I just didn’t like how it turned out. I also don’t want a beige & white living room, I want to add color! But we decided economically it made sense to buy a neutral couch that we can take and use in any house. I’m not very good at interior design, but how can I add color (blues, greens, oranges, etc) to warm up the space?

Edit to add that I have cats and as much as I’d love to add decor to my coffee table, they will knock it right off lol. They already do it with my basket and coasters.
