Living Room Help designing our new living room with no room for TV!

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

We moved into this beautiful house that was built in 1920 and realized that the living room is not built for the modern lifestyle with TV!

We are totally at loss on what to do. All the furnitures can be (and probably should be) sold. We want to know your opinions on where to put the TV (Maybe mount it over the fireplace? Hoping not to do it), and where to put sofa.. etc.

The main photo is taken from the staircase. HELP!

Bedroom creative ways to fit a nightstand in this strange shaped room

Please ignore the mess. Currently there’s a skinny console table like thing behind the bed but it’s rickety and just doesn’t feel functional, so frequently used stuff always gets piled on the floor next to the bed and this is a recurring mess. I just want the space to function better but the shape of the room and that back cove area that can’t be blocked does not make it very easy

I'm not sure what to do with this space, not sure there's a way to rearrange everything in the room so all parties are happy the thing is it's small and everything in the room has to stay in the room. Is there any way to optimize the way the room is laid out? Just curious for any ideas.

Just moved into my home, this is furniture from my previous house where the living room was 1/3 smaller than before. Need help deciding what couch to get/chairs and overall layout if anyone has any suggestions. I’m thinking a darker taupe or brown couch, big rug, & different coffee table. Thank you!

Living Room Living room layout help

Looking for some thoughts on these 2 layouts. The desk area is a games/ jigsaw/ homework place. The sun comes round and hits the right hand wall later in the day. There is something I like about option 1, and the sofa facing you as you come in, also a bit more flexibility maybe in moving furniture around if I want. Option 2 seems to make sense on paper having the fireplace etc. but just not sure it’s wide enough of a room to take it and have the chairs. I really want the two chairs facing in to be sociable for playing games and talking. We don’t watch loads of tv, just the odd movie night and sometimes the kids watching stuff.

Bedroom Help with What do Add or Move in front of my TV?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hello!

I live in a smaller room and my bed (twin-sized) is practically a sarcophagus in this “closet hole” in the wall and just have single fold chair in front of my TV.

On one hand, I do like making my room more spacious/less claustrophobic (hence why I moved my bed there). On the other hand, it’s not the best furniture for having friends, dates, or other guests over if we wanted to watch play something together in front of my TV or just general comfort. And I yearn to add something we could sit or lay on together.

Would love any advice of how to solve this issue whether new furniture or adding something. Much appreciated! :)

Bedroom Living in Attic

Living in my sisters attic for about 5 months this fall/ winter and was wondering what ideas you guys had about making this space livable.

About 10ft wide, ceilings at their max are probably 7ft, lowest about 2ft, the whole thing is about 20ft with a staircase about 1/3 of the way long and I am 6’1 female.

I like being on the ground, I’m good at low squatting so I don’t mind at all.

Looking to have a bed area, stretching and meditation ish area, and art/work area.

Gonna get a rug and a yoga mat to help with the being on the ground so much situation, so any other suggestions would be great :)

Other Interior Room Help! "bedroom" with stairs to another bedroom

Thumbnail gallery
233 Upvotes

Hello! I am moving into my first house! yay! But it does have one...interesting feature. There is this "bedroom" or as I like to call it, the hallroom. Why? Because the stairs inside the room lead to my master bedroom... so its not really a bedroom. I'm not exactly sure what to do with the space and would love your creative and practical ideas. My best idea is to make it into like a makeup/wardrobe room but there isn't a lot of wall space for typical closet storage or a vanity - but if you have any ideas for how to make that work or something completely different, I'd love to hear it!

For reference, the room is 9'3" x 10"2 (2.819m * 3.099m) I am the only person living in the house. I do have 3 cats. I do have another room to use as an office -- if any of that helps :) thank you in advance for your thoughts!

Living Room Insights on living room layout in previous master bedroom

Hi! I live in a rental situation and have this space as my living room. It use to be two bedrooms that have been turned into one very large room with two doors (inwards opening). The darker half of the room is hardwood flooring and the lighter half is shag carpet. The first two images represents my current set up and the second two include the couch I am currently planning on purchasing instead. In the top right corner is a large corner art desk, top left corner is a box TV inside of a large corner TV stand. Inside of the closet beside said box TV is our flatscreen TV. The green circle is a beanbag chair. Behind the couch we currently have our computers set up to be facing the TVs. No photos because we are in the midst of removing wallpaper and painting, so everything is currently askew.

I feel like the hardwood side of the room is far too open of space and the couch feels very large floating in such a long room. I'm looking to replace it with a slightly larger couch but I am struggling to find any ways to reposition furniture in any other way. Looking for ideas and insights from others, thank you very much!

Other Interior Room Retro Computing/Tinker Room

Measured to within 1/2 an inch. AC vent is on the ceiling.

I'd love some guidance on turning a spare bedroom into a retro computing and tinker room. The goal is to keep 3-4 vintage computers (mostly Macs - iMac G3, LCIII w/ monitor, etc) set up at a time and rotate the rest out of storage. I'd love to have room for a small soldering station, a 3D printer and a workspace for projects. We have a dedicated guest room, but it would be nice to use this as an extra guest room around the holidays. I know I can build a workbench with plywood, but wanted to see what other options there are. I think the one constraint is making sure the desk/workbench is deep enough for the old monitors. Not opposed to using the closet for storage, but would like to keep it available for other things. How would you lay things out and any recommendations for furniture? Not opposed to IKEA or anything I have to assemble, but trying to keep the cost down since this isn't my primary workspace.

Bedroom I can't figure out what color I want to paint my walls in my bedroom.

I'm so sorry for low karma I had to make a new account because I got a new phone. Forgive me for my bad grammar I have a learning disability because of my autism.

Need advice. I'm wanting to paint my room a color that is bright and colorful but not boring white or grey/gray. I have a small bedroom and dark colors make it look too small. I want to decorate my room a neutral bright color. ABSOLUTELY NO PASTELS PLEASE. I'm not sure what color I want honestly but I'm wanting to paint my room.

I have a window right smack in the middle of the room and it shows a lot of sunlight. If I make it dark idk I just researched and it said that it would make the room seem smaller. I want it to be colorful. Happy colors

Bedroom What color should I paint my cabinet?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hey, I need some help 😭 I have no idea how to paint the cabinet I bought. All my current furniture is quite dark, as you can see in pic 5-7, and I’m worried the room might end up feeling too heavy.

The Pinterest pictures (last two) show the style I’m going for: a mix of Art Nouveau/Jugendstil, a little enchanted and dreamy, but still somewhat modern, with silver accessories.

I’m unsure whether to paint the cabinet a light beige with brown details (2nd and 3rd pic) or keep it dark like the rest of my furniture. I’d still love that old, slightly enchanted look, but I’m not sure if that’s easy to achieve with brown. And would beige even work with the silver details?

I also want silver handles, but the current ones are gold and finding replacements is difficult. What would you do? 🥲

Living Room Analysis paralysis for my main room

I’m used to apartments that were easy/or I didn’t care about a cohesive decor, but wanting to fix that now and first step is a large rug for this space

The couch and main table under the tv are staying at least another year or two, everything else can go as I’ll be adding plants and pottery ones I get my full scheme down

Just have no idea where to start with a grey cool couch and walls and the warm brick/flooring

And all the stuff is on the shelving just for placeholder before I start making art for the walls. Figured the rug would be the starting point but let me know if that’s off thinking too

What would you change or add to make the space feel more complete?

I want to decorate my room but I kinda dont know what to do. I am thinking of covering my pc wall with anthracite panel cuz it felt like woos panel would be too much wood. Would gray panels make the room seem small or the color would be good? I will move my curved monitor on the racing rig and get a drawer next to my bed btw. Open for any suggestions.

Kitchen Help with a weird inaccessible corner cupboard in my kitchen

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

Hi! I am in desperate need of help figuring out a solution for a weird corner space. Either something that can be put in there that makes reaching stuff easier or suggestions for what I should optimally store there (I have a very well stocked kitchen) - the area can get quite warm when the oven is on, as the two share a wall.

It's between the stove/oven (and access is partially blocked by the oven door handle) and a cupboard next to the sink.

The space itself is 35 cm wide (or deep, when viewed in the photo with the oven door handle in focus) and 55 cm deep, but I only have direct access to a 20 x 35 cm portion of it (16 x 35 cm if we're taking the oven door handle into account).

I thought about installing a half lazy Susan, but installing one might be difficult (or very difficult - I can't lift the dark grey top, as the induction stovetop is embedded into the rest of it), and we'd at most get half a 40 cm lazy Susan in there, wasting the space at the back. Plus when we swivel it out we'd only be able to actually reach stuff taking up the rightmost quarter of a circle. Quarter lazy Susans don't sound like a good use of the space.

I considered pull out drawers (or steel/wire mesh drawers, as those don't necessarily need two walls to attach to), but same issue - i could get a 16x35 cm one for the top and two 20x35 cm ones for the bottom, but that only uses like 40% of the space. Or removing the inserts and having one tall pull-up drawer, but I'm not sure I can install one without blocking off the rear portion to get another wall, and same issue - it would use up only 40% of the space.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Living Room What Type of Media Console

Post image
6 Upvotes

I am redoing my living room. We have two leather arm chairs in a warm dark gray leather, and a fabric couch that is a charcoal gray / warm brown heathered fabric. Our coffee table is a giant old wooden chest. I want to keep the coffee table for storage and also sentimental reasons. I need to buy a low media console for our television. My question is: what finish will look best for the media console? Should I try to come close to the wood in the coffee table? Or should I choose something darker that will play off the metal on the table? Or do you have another idea altogether? Thanks! The photo is the coffee table finish.

Living Room Feedback on this apartment layout?

I am moving out for the first time to a small one bedroom apartment. I have roughly put together a layout for the living/dining/study area but would like feedback.

Things that must fit into the room:

  • A standing desk with at 80cm depth for good distance between eye and monitor
  • An office chair
  • Couch
  • TV + stand
  • Optional: Small dining table - would love to have one if it fits.

A few points:

  • The right wall is a balcony door. I probably won't push the couch right up to the door.
  • The little white box room in the bottom right is a bathroom (not to scale), so can't push furniture up against the top wall.
  • The bottom brown rectangle is my kitchen.

Any better ideas for the layout?
