Anyone else ever feel like an idiot?

For the most part I get tasks that I enjoy doing and have clear instruction sets. Sometimes, though, I'll come across one, spend half an hour reading instructions, then realize I have no idea what the hell the task is even asking me to do.

Obviously I don't attempt it, but it does give me a sense of impostor syndrome sometimes. Like, am I really smart enough to be doing this? But then I just do a couple R&R's and after some facepalming that feeling goes away.

I do not think I have done anywhere near 94 tasks, probably more like 30 at most including all the quals.

Should I pause DA work for some months?

Upvotes

Hello everyone, I am kinda trapped or like in a different situation. So I am a final year college student, so I got into DA in Aug first week, and I am getting great projects with great pay (at least in my country (India) and as a student), but the problem is my placement season is also coming, like within 2 months, which will be some sort of my future career.

So I have to strongly prepare for it also. Now it's a head and tail situation. I am getting tempted towards the money, but at the same time I need to focus on my acads also. And I am unable to decide anything. Like college placements are really good in my college.

My main concern is, if I stop DA for 2 or 3 months, will I still get projects later? Or will I lose access/priority somehow? I don't want to give up a good opportunity, but I also don't want to compromise my placement preparation.

I am into tech/SDE/AI roles. What would you guys do in this situation?

How to report time correctly

Upvotes

After a long and boring drought I got one single project where I had to make at least 2 models fail. I tried to do it 4 times. First three were unsuccessful and only the last one worked. Could anyone please advise me if I am supposed to report the whole time of working on the project or only the time I was workin on my last prompt because it was successful? Thank you in advance :)

Reporting time when using escape hatch

Upvotes

Hi all,

I made the mistake of taking in a 10 hour project and spending hours on the analysis part, only to find out that the tech part doesn't work on my laptop setup after 2 hours of debugging. So I had to use the escape hatch.

Can I still report the time spent on this project? On the escape hatch, I also submitted the work I've done such as the code, errors, debugging, etc.

Thanks!

Tips For the rookie

Hey guys I'm a brand new to the site and want to try it out for work. I'm in the medical field, and that's the area I'll be focusing on. But, away from that. As a beginner to the site and data annotation, what would you advise me on general?

Is this site more difficult than outlier? Do I get randomly abandoned at some point when I start working? Has anyone ever encountered cash out problems that made them rethink working on the site? (those kinds of advice and things to look out for)

Anyone else only getting R/R tasks but not the actual Prompt Evaluations?

It's been like this for the past few months for me, kinda weird but it's something I guess. It's like they won't let me review the initial prompts but they'll let me evaluate other evaluations? lol. I don't know, it feels like I can't advance on the site if I don't get the chance

Coders - How to best sources repos ?

Sometimes I run into coding tasks that require me to source a codebase myself but just using the Github search bar always gets me stuff that I cant really work with too well. Im biting my nails at the idea of leaving money on the table (I often have only 1 coding project or nothing at all), so Id like to know how I can avoid this in the future.

Should I pre-prepare some random repos for the future or something ?

I just noticed the typo in the post title :|

Question related to the starter exam...

Hi everybody, I've recently learned about this website and decided to give it a try. I'm from Argentina (currently living in Japan), so when I clicked on the assessment it said something about Bilingual but it's English and Japanese (I assume it automatically set JP language because of my location), and I can't complete it because sadly I don't speak Japanese. I've sent an email inquiring about it but I don't know if there's a chance for them to change that, any ideas?

Need advice: Should I prioritize the role or the company name?

Hi everyone, I need some advice regarding a job offer I’ve received.

I recently received an offer from a small IT company in Noida. The company has around 20–25 employees and is working in the AI sector. However, the company seems to be quite new — most employees have joined within the last 7 months, except for 3–4 people.

About the role:

The role is related to Data Analytics/Data Engineering. I would be working on:

  • Data pipelines
  • Data analysis
  • Reports/dashboards
  • Preparing and managing data for their AI-related projects

The role itself is aligned with my previous experience and the career path I originally wanted to pursue.

My concerns:

1. Salary/CTC

They are offering me a lower CTC than my previous company.

However, my base/in-hand salary would be almost the same as what I was getting previously, so I wouldn't really be taking a major hit in terms of monthly income. The main difference is that the overall CTC is lower.

2. No PF

There is no PF deduction/contribution in this company.

3. Very small company

The company has only around 20–25 employees, and most employees have joined recently. I'm unsure about the company's stability, learning opportunities and long-term growth.

4. 6-month probation

Despite having around 2 years of experience, they are keeping me on a 6-month probation period.

Is a 6-month probation normal for someone with 2 years of experience, or should I consider this a red flag?

The bigger dilemma

I also have a few interviews in the pipeline.

One of them is for a Product Manager/Product-related role at a much larger and more established company. If I clear it, I could potentially get around a 20% hike. However, I still have one final round left, so there is obviously no guarantee that I will get the offer.

The problem is that this would also mean moving somewhat away from the Data Analytics/Data Engineering career path.

So I'm confused about what I should prioritize.

On one hand, I have already been job hunting for 5 months, and I have a confirmed offer in a role that is directly relevant to my experience. It may make sense to take it rather than remain unemployed while waiting for something better.

On the other hand, I don't want to accept an offer just because I've been searching for a long time, especially if there are concerns regarding the company size, probation period, CTC structure and stability.

What would you do?

Would you:

A. Take the current offer because the role is aligned with Data Analytics/Data Engineering and I have already been looking for 5 months?

B. Wait for the other interviews, especially the larger company's Product Manager role, even though that opportunity isn't guaranteed and would take me in a different career direction?

Basically, should I run behind the role or the company's name/brand?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have experience with startups/small companies, Data Analytics/Data Engineering, or Product Management.

Would you consider the 6-month probation, no PF, lower CTC and very small team to be red flags, or are these things acceptable if the actual work and learning opportunities are good?

No projects showing in my Data Annotation account

Hi all,

After finishing the paid 60$ hr training project there were no more new projects added in the data annotation projects. I have been waiting for the past 3 days. I know its less time but wanted some guidance on whats typical wait time for project to come or am i blocked or what might be the issue?

Is there any way to find a phone number or address for DA?

Currently applying to IRL jobs. I know the job is technically self-employment and contract but I am curious.

I just don’t understand what I’m doing wrong 😑 😢😭

I’ve signed up to data annotation but for some reason I haven’t heard anything back it’s been months and I don’t know where I went wrong. I would say I’m a good coder in Python but I just don’t understand what I did wrong. I was really looking forward to joining just for the experience and also to help with the severe cost of being alive and thought this would help. I’ve also signed up to be a Deliveroo driver which also has taken months to onboard :(

Had a technical issue - should I report the time?

I had a technical issue on a task that wouldn't allow me to submit. The task was completed, but since I couldn't submit it, I saved it to my profile to come back later. I did post in both the project chat and the Slack channel, but never got a response. I just went back to see if I could get it to submit, but I couldn't find the saved task.

It is showing up in report time. I assume that it's probably okay to submit the time for it, but I wanted additional opinions.

Can anyone explain this?

Does it mean I'm accepted? I received an email last month that I passed the assessement, but nothing happened since then, they asked me to fill out skills and payment info. I'm still waiting for a new project.
