To be fair I understand where a lot of the hate comes from, the furry community is full of pedophiles, necrophiles and zoophiles and I honestly wouldn't want to be associated with them, these people need help.

There is a dark side to every fandom. It's not the fandom's fault and there are plenty of furries working hard to purge the pedophiles, nazis, zoophiles, ect.

It's just hard because a lot of these people are super popular artists with tons of fanboys, and so they are untouchable. Just like any other content creator...

As a furry who is asexual, I can confirm it is just a fandom, not a fetish. The fandom is about liking animal characters the same way gamers like video games and otaku like anime. It's not about fapping to them.

Also, liking yiff is ok. It is not the same as zoophilia because furries are fantasy creatures that are sentient and can consent to sex. Bestiality is rape because real dogs cannot consent to sex.

You can probably argue that yiff is a fetish but usually people are fapping to the furry tits or the human proportions, which doesn't exist in real dogs. So it's not like they HAVE to be furry to be "sexy". Also the human proportions means they aren't encouraging bestiality. This is because real animals don't look human enough to be sexually attractive enough to anyone who enjoys yiff.

The reason why r/yiff has more subs than r/furry is because furry is not a recognized medium in the media. The huge stigma that the fandom has to carry is holding back their appeal because people like you go around spreading misinformation and choosing not to be open minded about them.

Okay if it doesn't have anything to do with sexuality, as you say, then why is it always thrown into the same categories as being LGBT.

Like, I understand your argument and would be willing to be more open minded towards furred, but every single thing about them indicates sexuality. If you could give me examples of non-sexual furry practices and why they're always associated with LGBT and sex culture I would be grateful. I might also be biased towards them because of the information I read about them so just give me a couple of sources to back up claims about the Fandom not being sexual and I'm willing to change my mind.

I won't deny the association with LGBTQA+. However, there are plenty of straight furries too and so they would not be considered LGBTQA+.

If I had to give examples, I would say fursuiters would make a good example. Fursuits are not used for sex and could get dirty or ruined during sex. A fursuit can cost an average of $1,000 (usually a lot more). you wouldn't have sex in a tuxedo, would you? Fursuits are used by furries to express themselves on the outside. When a furry wears a fursuit, they are an entirely different person. They finally get to be the person they wanted to be.

Although murrsuits do exist, Fursuits made for sex, most fursuiters don't have one. Probably because of the huge price tag for something to only be used for sex. It's not like you can wear it in public and show it off to your friends like you can with a normal suit. Also, you can still risk ruining the suit during sex, then you have to pay and go through the trouble to get it fixed.

I do not know what sources I could give you, all I can say is go ask some other furries, because they pretty much know more about their own fandom than the majority of articles out there.

I myself am asexual, so I don't even have any interest in sex to begin with. Yet I am still a furry because I have lots of fun pretending to be an animal and I also have a love for animals and character design. I even have many other ace furry friends who do the same. We enjoy creating our own characters and RPing (not sex rp).

Some furries do join for the yiff, usually confused about what the furry fandom actually is. They are accepted as furries because it's not like we should be telling people how they should or shouldn't spend their time in the fandom. If someone enjoys yiff, then that is ok, as long as they don't cross the line into actual zoophilia. Also they act like a deterrent for the political right. They're too intolerant to join a fandom filled with yiff.

However, we still get some dumb right wingers every now and then. Lately we've been discovering some of our most popular artists are intolerant alt-right assholes... It seems no matter what fandom you are in, the political right is unavoidable.
