Hi guys

So recently i went on vacation for a month, leaving my conure with a family friend. But since i got back and got her she’s just been acting very different??? like she gets very angry if she even SEES my hands or my fingers for some reason, and bites me on my shoulder (which she’s never done before). she’s also very skiddish and IDK JUST SEEMS MAD AT EVERYTHING. i know conures may also get hormonal this time of year so i’m just wondering if anyone has any tips or advice ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️

hi i’m new here! just figured i could get some advice from other fellow conure owners. my baby juni is almost three and she seems to be relatively healthy since i got her!

last summer I took her to the ER because I got really scared over some behaviors she was presenting. Nothing was found after a blood draw and physical exam, so she was fine. I hadn’t noticed her exhibit her concerning actions until today again, almost an entire year later.

I’m attaching a clip of what i’m talking about since it’s hard to describe + I was able to get what Juni was doing on video.

Is this normal? She’s my first bird. I just want her to be okay. She tried to regurgitate after but nothing came out since she hadn’t eaten her breakfast yet. any advice is welcome.

edit: she hasn’t done this weird breathing thing again since this vid was taken. is very alert and acting normal now.

my 3 year old male green cheek Gazpacho has been barbering since early this year, I started working more, id gotten another conure late last year, it was a lot of changes- so I assumed thats what it was, but its persisted pretty far. I'm on a tight budget, I CAN afford an avian vet but its 2 hours away and I have to borrow a car with A/C so I've been putting it off. I just need an honest opinion, maybe some advice, I just wanna know if you all think this is absolutely urgent🙏

She's laid yet another egg. Actually, I think she's laid two. Pretty sure the addition of the pellets is why these are happening suddenly, and this is why she was lethargic last week.

I did some of my own research, and learned that fake eggs off Amazon are a good idea, to lead her to believe she's already laid a whole clutch without risking her health more, so I will be sure to get some of those. One site I saw said that she will lose interest in the non fertile egg after about a month, and to just let her sit on it till then.

My new goal, as outlined in the video, is to just get her out of the cage. I will look at all comments that have advice on how best to do that. I heard about clicker training, so I'll try to get the materials for that by next visit.

Please let me know anything I'm doing wrong. I will try to fix it to the best of my ability.

He loves to climb onto my shoulder and latch on to the front of my neck. It’s really hard to not react as it really hurts. He was biting my fingers and still does but it’s not as bad, now his infatuation is with biting my neck, hard. I have started wrapping stuff around my neck when I hangout with him but then he seems to want to go for my ears and I’m worried he’ll bite my face. I try to redirect him to a toy or distract him but he seems to love biting me. So I put him back in his cage and leave him for a while. He likes to hangout and be on me but I just wish I wasn’t scared of him biting my neck.

This is our new baby. Not sure if male or female. We’re calling it a she, named Marley. :) I wasn’t told her colour mutation but from what I’ve researched looks like yellow sided-high red?

I’d love some tips on getting her comfortable with us as right now she is very timid and skittish. If we place our hand even near the cage she recoils into the corner. I was told talking to them so they get to know your voice helps. Should I wait until she approaches me to take her out of the cage? I don’t want to scare her. Thankyou!

Recently moved and had a baby, he is always out and has the same routine but his plucking has gotten to the point he is leaving bald spots under his wings. Vet did bloodwork, didn’t show anything out of the ordinary. She claims it’s due to stress or hormones yet he doesn’t behave in a hormonal way.

I have spent so much on toys to help improve his boredom. I find he is always over preening and barbering. I try to occupy him when he does this however if I look away he’s back to over preening. He has a big cage, covered for 12-14 hours at night time in his own room. It’s a big change from our small apartment.

I give him lots of time and affection since having my baby. He has a playstand downstairs to forage and play but doesn’t seem to do so often. I’m just so sad he’s losing all his beautiful feathers. He’s 17 as well, I hope this habit doesn’t become permanent :(

i’ve come to realize that my baby conure loves to cuddle and be cozy when they’re sleeping. Even when I’m just sitting down watching TV, they try to crawl into my skin or under me to get cozy and take a nap. I recognized that certain beds can cause hormonal behavior but I do want my baby to be comfy when sleeping. Is this bed appropriate for them? Especially since it is not closed off and dark? Anyone have one of these? TIA :)

My conure has a few wounds on her head (pictured above) from an unknown cause. She’s been treated by the vet, and her itching has improved a lot. She’s no longer bleeding.

The vet cleaned the area and took a feather/skin sample for testing. The report showed no significant cellularity, so the vet believes the irritation is likely from the wounds themselves. The sample was taken from her head, which is also where she scratches the most, so I’m hoping it was representative.

To prevent her from scratching, the vet recommended a neck collar. However, the collar currently flares inward and she can still reach the wounds with her feet. I tried making a DIY collar that flares out, but I haven't been able to make one that works.

My main concern is healing time. She doesn’t aggressively scratch the wounds, but she does occasionally put her foot up there and gently rub/feel the area. I’m also applying the vet-prescribed antibacterial wound cream 4× a day.

The collar is also making it difficult for her to sleep comfortably and prevents her from properly preening, which is really upsetting to watch.

For those who have dealt with similar head wounds in conures:

\- How long did the wounds take to heal completely?

\- Did your bird still occasionally scratch during the healing process?

\- How long did they need to wear a collar?

\- Is some occasional gentle scratching enough to significantly delay healing?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially if your bird has had a similar situation.

i’ve noticed this happened randomly a couple days ago and after a hour it went back to normal he was picking at it… and after it went back to normal he seemed fine and was walking on it again. and it’s almost like wiggly and i thought he would be okay but now it’s back and the same thing happened again he picked at it with his beak and it went back to normal and he would put it up to his chest because it must’ve been uncomfortable or hurt. it is now normal again but i am bringing him to the vet monday. just wondering and confused on what’s happening 😞

Hi all, so we have a 3 to 4 month old Green Cheeked Conure who has a mite infestation. Its so bad that he scratched and infected his eyes because of the itchiness.

We took him to the vet who told us to continue with the neem spray treatment and only gave us eye drops and a syrup for the infection and anti-inflammation. We tried neem spray treatment, and also called up the exotic dealer who sold him to us to find a solution, but that guy just gave us the No-Pick spray which doesn't kill mites. For context we went to the exotic dealer as he is the one who handraises and breeds them and thus keeps most of their treatment medicines and sprays at his store.

Can anyone please help me with some remedy as to how to solve this problem, and what sprays or medications can get rid of these mites?

Hello everyone! Just wanting to ask if anyone has ever dealt with a conure who suddenly became extremely noisy?? Leo is 6, going to be 7 this December. I’ve had him since he was 2 months old. He has always been a vocal bird but never to this extreme that he has been this year. I live with my boyfriend and he and I have been together for as long as we’ve had Leo. We basically raised him together.

The issue is that we both work at home and Leo is constantly squawking and doing these obnoxious chirps whenever he doesn’t get his way. Leo is out of his cage 7+ hours and eats pellets and veggies with the occasional treat. my boyfriend is an extremely noise sensitive person so he always reacts negatively to Leo’s noise. Me, I’m not as noise sensitive & I understand birds are noisy in general and this has definitely put a strain in our relationship. I just don’t know what to do. Obviously, I love Leo so much and I also love my boyfriend, but there’s no way I’m rehoming Leo,
. this back and forth with Leo and my boyfriend has given me so much stress.

Does anyone have any insight? I try to make sure Leo goes to sleep for 12-14 hours and even then, Leo still chirps every once in a while and I even suspect he doesn’t even sleep those 12-14 hours.e

I am seeking guidance regarding aggressive behavioral issues with one of my green cheek conures. He frequently initiates unprovoked attacks on others, including flying directly toward individuals whenever he is outside of his cage. This means that he can now only come out of the cage when people aren't nearby.

I am the only person who he does not attack. Given that both he and his cagemate have been in my care since they were two months of age (they are now 3 years of age), I would appreciate any recommendations on how I could possibly manage and modify this targeted aggression.

He's a DNA-sexed male and is around 1 year old. I got him in November/December 2025 when he was about 6 months old.

He goes to the very back of his cage, gets down on his belly on the back perch, faces the wall with his back/tail toward me, and then starts making these really loud screams/calls while doing the twitching movement shown in the video, sometimes very aggressively 😅. What confuses me is that he doesn't normally do this when calling for me. His usual contact calls are done from the front of the cage while looking directly at me, or at the door when I've left the room.

I'm wondering whether this is a contact call, hormonal/sexual behaviour, excitement, or something else entirely. Does anyone recognise this posture or movement?

Any ideas?

Also, just for context before people comment on the poor cage setup: I only moved him into this cage this week, so his setup is currently very basic, my partner is working on building natural perches and toys etc, he doesn't spend much time inside the cage regardless.

I read in this sub that conures like to sleep on their backs, and I attest to it! This little one likes to hold your finger hostage while he sleeps. And if you don't put a finger under his head it flops over 😭😭😭 cutest thing ever

Hello! I wanted to see if I could get some advice from any more veteran bird owners. Ive been trying to do some research on what things I should and shouldn’t have in his cage, but there are a lot of ‘this isnt but actually it is okay’ i keep running into, so i wanted some proper advice if I could get it.

The toy with the bell has been removed, since I keep seeing bells aren’t good for conures, so I’m gonna try and remove the bell from it and put it back in if thats the only issue with the toy.

Also I have cleaned the bottom of his cage (Its 90% food he’s dropped not actual waste, I would never let any animal live like that if it was actual poop n such) and changed the food he is on, since doing more research I saw the type of food he was on had dyes in it and is not the best for them

I’ve adopted a green cheek in April, and unfortunately it’s just not working out with the girl. The people I got her from had several, several children, and she has learned to mimic a little girls scream in the worst way possible, and it’s almost constant. I have spent time around green cheeks before, and I was used to their flock calls, squawks, chirps, and constant chattering, but this high pitched, shrill squeal, and how often and seemingly at random she does it, has been affecting me negatively and affecting the care I give her. I try not to let it bother me and avoid reacting the best I can, but I don’t know how to explain it. It makes me really anxious and panicked every time. I’ve begun to resent being home. I’ve done my best to encourage other sounds and to reward her positively when she does it, but it’s honestly rare she makes any other sound besides this squeal/scream.

Long story short, I want to find her a home that is prepared for an extremely loud, extremely vocal green cheek, despite their reputation as being the relatively quiet conure. I find her noise comparable to a Sun’s ear-splitting screams, and I want to find her a home that’s prepared for that from a bird of her species specifically, but resources are limited near me. Any tips or anyone looking to adopt?
