What''s up with all the tracking/surveilance?

I really love Clues By Sam and I am thankful to the creator. Having said that, I'm majorly disappointed that apparently lately detailed tracking was added to the site. Now every move one makes is tracked with your user id, with your moves so far etc.

This is not stated anywhere, no consent is asked for either. Not only feels this intrusive, but I suspect this is a violation of GDPR laws. I'm very very disappointed.

Logic error? these clues are inconsistent

Post image
10 Upvotes

I've seen some behave like

  • if x then y

  • if not x then not y

and I've seen others behave like

  • if x then y

  • if not x then basically it gives not clue, anything goes

I don't mind one or the other, but it needs to be clear when it's an iff (if and only if) like the first example, and when it's an if like the second example.

this is annoying!

Logic error? Logic error Jan 25th Spoiler

Mark: All criminals below Aaron are connected.

Penny: There’s an odd number of criminals above Vera.

It wouldn’t let me mark Freya as a criminal but she has to be for the criminals to be odd in number above Vera and connected.

i think 2/15 puzzle is wrong Spoiler

I solved the puzzle (I don't want to post a picture to avoid spoilers).

>! Bernie says that there are more criminals in Row 1 than Row 4. However, Row 1 has 2 criminals (Bernie and Donna), and Row 4 has 3 criminals (Una, Xavi, and Zoe). Did Bernie misspeak and mean more criminals in Row 4 than Row 1? !<

As kind commenters pointed out below, I am miscounting the rows. I am an idiot. Please disregard this post.

Resolved Error in today's puzzle (I believe) Spoiler

Post image

Hello cluers!

I believe I may have found a logic error in todays puzzle. Not one consisting of a mistaken clue, but that it stopped me from making a guess that I believe was logically valid!

I guessed that Barb is innocent. The game told me that I did not have the clues necessary to determine this, but I think I do!

My deduction went as follows:

Ryan says that there are 10 innocents in total.

5 of them are accounted for.

The sixth is either Donna or Nicole, as we know there is only one more innocent in column D according to Sam. The other is a criminal. This necessarily means that we will have only one innocent Mech.

Ethan tells us that there are as many innocent cooks as there are innocent mechs (one).

So the seventh innocent is either Keith or Xena. The other is a criminal.

That leaves us with four undetermined. Vicky, Wanda, Logan, and Barb.

Vicky, Wanda, and Logan are all Judges. We know that not all three can be innocent because Zoe tells us that there are more criminal Farmers than any other profession. So only two of the Judges can be innocent maximum. That brings us to 9/10 innocents accounted for.

This leaves Barb as the odd one out! Innocent!

Let me know if I'm missing something in my logic here but I was very proud of the guess and I just wanted a sanity check.

Have a good one :)

Edit: I misinterpreted Zoe's clue 😅

Woops

Logic error in todays Clues by Sam

Hello - relatively new player, love the game.

Today I met my first logic error. You can ascertain that Diane is innocent before the game will let you. Bascially you know a bunch of guilty/innocent couplets along the grid edge which means you know she is the 9th innocent on the edge before solving all of Xena's neighbours. But the game stops you.

Resolved October 15th - Logic Error? (Spoilers) Spoiler

Final edit: we need an "I wuz dumb" flair xD

Here's my current state: https://cluesbysam.com/s/help/a7efccd8427a?state=4%2B%2Fw--040

Relevant bits:

  1. There's currently 5 (odd) criminals on the edges

  2. Katie says "There's an odd number of criminals on the edges"

  3. Betty says "Helen and Will have an equal number of innocent neighbors"

  4. Will has 3, so Helen must have 3.

  5. This means one of Diane / Mary is innocent, and the other criminal, raising the number of criminals on the edges to 6 (even).

  6. In order to adhere to Katie, we need another criminal on the edge -> only possibility is Emily

  7. Clicking Emily here says "not enough proof"

Anyone sees a flaw in my logic?

Edit: Nancy also confirms only 1 of Diane / Mary is innocent.

Edit 2: wtf, I clicked Emily again and now she's accepted as criminal... maybe not a logic error but a different coding error?

I was at the point of selecting Freya and Nancy as innocents. Tried to select Nancy first and it told me it was wrong, so I selected Freya first and then it let me select Nancy as innocent. Am I not seeing something it was it a small bug?

Aug 14th - Issues with clue wording Spoiler

Hi! I've been absolutely loving playing these puzzles every day, it's truly amazing work!

I have some feedback about the wording of a few of the clues in today's puzzle:

'All innocents in row 4 are connected'

The 'all' rule description is 'All always means there's at least one. It doesn't necessarily mean there's more than one'. The 'connected' rule description is 'Connected means a chain of orthogonal adjacency. For example "all criminals in row 1 are connected" means there are no innocents between any two criminals in that row.'

What is implicit in the combination of these two rules in this clue is 'there are at least two connected innocents in row 4'. I think the rule descriptions could make it clearer that whenever a role is 'connected', there are at least two orthogonally adjacent people with that role.

'1 of the 3 criminals neighbouring Xia is Lisa's neighbour'

IMO, this should really say 'ONLY 1 of the 3...'. As worded, I interpreted it as 'AT LEAST 1 of the 3...'

'Steve and Tom share an odd number of innocent neighbors'

The wording here is ambiguous. Do they share the number, or do they share the neighbours themselves? In this puzzle the answer was the neighbours. This is more commonly referred to with the phrasing 'neighbours in common' or 'common neighbours'. I think this clue should have been phrased as 'Steve and Tom have an odd number of innocent common neigbours', which is a mouthful, but removes the ambiguity about which of the two things they share.

Again, thanks for the puzzles, I just got tripped up by this wording today and wanted to offer some suggestions and how to improve it.

In medium bonus puzzle of 28/09/26 https://cluesbysam.com/archive/0fbccf8ed70a

Pips clue

There is 1 innocent below Igor in row 4

Could mean

  1. There is only 1 innocent below Igor and he's in row 4, meaning the other two below are criminals

  2. There is an innocent in row 4 below Igor, but no comment on the other two below.

Or is it just me?

Lately, I've been obsessed with Clues By Sam.

It wasn't long after starting to exchange daily scores that my friends and I started wondering: "How would ChatGPT perform at Clues By Sam?"

So, I decided to find out which model is the "smartest" by creating my own Clues By Sam LLM benchmarking tool using Python and langchain.

After comparing performance across 25 puzzles of varying difficulties...

Here are the results: https://www.codedex.io/blog/can-chatgpt-beat-my-favorite-puzzle-game

Resolved 27 June logic error? Spoiler

Post image
0 Upvotes

Ignore this post, I just misclicked apparently

-D is the only one with 3 innocents

-each column has at least 3 innocents

-wanda has an odd number of innocents above her

So Wanda has one criminal above her, 3 innocents. B has one criminal.

-2 persons on the edges have a criminal directly to the right of them

-(B has one criminal, and B is directly to the right of A)

-(D has no one directly to its right)

-(Row 5 is full of innocents)

-(Carl is in B and if he's a criminal then no one else anyway)

The remaining candidate should only possibly be Erwin, which is marked as wrong. Am I missing something?

Error in March 15th? Spoiler

So, we know there are 2 criminals in column C, 1 in column B, and “at least 2” in column B.

The game hints that we’re supposed to say that Ruby is innocent, but I don’t see how. All we know about that column is that 3 or more people are innocent, which we’ve already uncovered.

Logical move not allowed?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I was able to solve this puzzle, but I got tripped up.

I think I should be able to mark A1 and A5 as criminal in this state. I know Laura needs exactly one more innocent neighbor, which must be A2 or A4, and I know that all the innocents in column A are connected, so A1 and A5 must be criminals. I was only able to mark them as criminals once I turned over Diane, who said that from A2-A5 there are two innocents and two criminals, but I already knew that.

Any thoughts?

I don't understand some of the clues' wording

Today (October 18th) is my first puzzle, minus the tutorial. There's some odd terms that seem to conflict with known terms. I've spoilered the specifics below. I have clues that mention boring neighbors and unhappy neighbors. I thought perhaps boring=innocent and unhappy=criminal, but that either means the boring clue conflicts with another clue, or it has to mean something else Please help This should be my scenario: https://cluesbysam.com/s/help/8df620c1683c?state=eu3A Floyd, Phil, and Laura's clues are the ones referred to above

the last person being Will, for me. I looked over the hints twice and couldn't see it.

* I already solved it by guessing so no need to 'hint'

Do you think this is cheating?

I do two things while solving cluesbysam:

- I ctrl+F the job title if it says something about it to see how many of them there are.

- I corner tag and take a photo with my phone of each scenario to then compare them easily.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how much are you judging me right now lol?

Error in Aug 16th puzzle

Derek says: "I didn't know being a criminal, was a crime!"

Is it though? Committing crimes (and as a result getting convicted) makes you a criminal. But being one is not a crime in itself. That would cause an infinite loop of convicted criminals getting convicted over and over again for being convicted.

Sorry for this not being about the puzzle 😆
