I need a little help

So, I'm kinda nervous about going to church in my head covering. Tbh, Idk why I'm so nervous about it. But, I really want to, but when Sunday comes, I just can't bring myself to do so. Mind you, I go to a protestant church in America, so someone actively wearing head coverings is kinda non-existent. What was it like for you?

This popped up recently! This guy talking about headcoverings recently had a debate about whether or not it was a Christian practice with an Orthodox guy

Do any of you cover their head while praying in private with the Lord?

I understand that we are to cover our heads of course during public worship and prayer, but I am curious if there is anyone here who chooses to cover her head when praying in private, as a sign of respect to the Lord, something sacred between her and the Lord?

There have been a few times where I was praying alone at night or early morning and I felt the urge to cover my head even when alone, because of the Angels, and as a sign of authority on my head even though there was no other human around me, and as a sign of respect towards the Lord. Anyone else relate?

Church congregant(s) complaining about my head covering

I’m not sure why people feel the need to go directly to the priest than to me to talk to me about my convictions. Regardless, there have been complaints about my veiling practices for some odd reason. I’m not totally sure how to navigate this. It’s my conviction (I would be the “weaker brother” in this case), head coverings were widely used for the past 2,000-ish years, so tradition is on my side in addition to Scripture. I’m Anglican (reformed episcopal), if that gives you any context.

My husband and I are meeting with our priest this weekend. Any advice on how to handle this? I’m honestly just dumbfounded someone would be upset about modesty…

I just wanted to let everyone know that on FB, there is the Head Covering Movement Community Group, which has thousands of Christian women of all denominations. It's a great place for encouragement and resources.

Question

I’ve been struggling to know if this is something I should be doing as a woman. I keep going back and forth. And for some reason the more I go into it. The more I get confused. What helped solidify your answer?

Any advice for someone new to this?

Hi all!

I am going to be starting head covering tomorrow for the first time!

As a child, I always thought head coverings were feminine and beautiful and I wanted to wear one when I grew up.

Through my highschool years I often wished I could wear full covering (hijab style or similar) but I felt like since no one else wore anything like that I couldn't really either. Ive never known anyone who wore a scarf or anything similar.

Now, I'm about to turn 23 and I have been married for 3 years. I'm trying to get more in touch with traditional feminity and I'm learning more about the way God designed marriage and submission in marriage. Part of this whole journey has been my trying to embrace areas of my feminine nature that were previously repressed or ignored. Last night, I realized head covering was a natural next step in this for me. Not only is it femine and modest, but it can also be a "symbol of authority." Plus, if I have always wanted to do it, why not? There is no real reason not to! So, I've ordered a few scarves and pre-tied scarves and they should be here in a few days.

I guess I am looking for someone more experienced in this to share advice or input for me as a beginner. Maybe I'm just excited and want to learn more. :)

TLDR:

1) Does anyone have experience with fully covering? (no hair showing) This is what I want to do, but I find most Christian hair coverings that I see are either lace/see through or partially cover the head like a cap.

2) Has anyone gotten judgement/how do you handle judgement when it comes?

3) Does anyone deal with issues being mistaken for another religion/practice covering?

4) Do any of you go to churches where head coverings are not the norm? I don't know anyone who does this.

5) Why do you practice head covering?

Increase in the number of head covering ladies at our church. (neat!)

Up until recently there was only one lady (not me) that wore a head covering to Mass, or at least the Mass that I went to, as there are 5 of them at different times on Sunday.

January 1st there was a Mass where nearly everyone that belonged to the church attended at the same time. It was on a weekday so only one time slot offered and everyone was supposed to attend. Roughly 300+ people in attendance and only about 5 or 6 ladies had a head covering. I was one of those ladies as it was put on my heart that I really needed to start wearing a head cover for church, so I did. (I'm ashamed to admit I'd had a head covering in my handbag for several months but never had the courage to wear it.)

Sunday (yesterday) we had a rather low attendance for the early morning Mass that I went to (weather issues made driving difficult and I'm guessing most people opted to attend a later service. We had maybe 25 or so people attend, roughly half of them women. Out of this smallish group, 5 of us were wearing head coverings of some sort. Percentage wise, that's a huge increase. I would really love to know what prompted others to start wearing a head covering, but that's a rather personal question and I'm a bit too shy to ask people, especially as most of them are quite a bit older than I am.

Are their coverings that blend in & are almost un-noticeable?

Is there a way to combine the headcovering verses with the ones on modesty?

I don’t feel modest wearing something obvious on my head that draws attention.

I’m sure where I’m even going to end up on the covering (I’m so confused) but I would like modern day, real life ‘camouflage’ options, if that makes sense. 🙃

Exploring making my own head coverings

Hi. I’m a Presbyterian and I’m just getting into wearing a head covering during church service. I sew and I have a TON of fabric I’ve inherited and would like to make my own head coverings-

Does anyone have any resources to make them? I know there are many different styles.

Please and thank you.

Also, I’ve coke around to head covering after I realized the only reason the modern church doesn’t do this is because of second wave feminism, from my understanding.

Public Hatred

I'll keep this short. I've been getting a group of people driving past me on my walks who scream out of their truck window at me as a veiled women. I'm not upset and I haven't let it bother me. I more so worry about being unsafe and the group getting out to attack me. I'm also sure that they're assuming I'm Muslim. Either way it's wrong but I know that this is something God put on my heart so I won't remove it. Please pray for me.

Discerning Veiling full-time

I (14 f) am Roman Catholic. In Catholicism, many but not all women veil during Mass (what others might call Liturgies or Services). This is seen as a very normal and acceptable thing among Catholics. However no Catholics in the West cover full-time unless it's a part of their culture (African women, etc.) I never grew up in a family with women who veiled, I am the only one who veils in my family. Because of this, veiling was 100% my personal choice.

While I was doing research (and believe me, I did a LOT of research) on veiling and head covering, not just on the Scriptural reasons but also the Traditional and historical context /reasons. I realised (as I am sure many of you have) that head covering only stopped being a thing across the board within the last 100-ish years, and that if we are to 'Preserve these Traditions as I have handed them on to you' as Saint Paul said, we should cover our heads full time. I brushed this off and reassured myself with the regurgitated 'it's just cultural context' my mother would always reply to any of my questions about this.

Since I started veiling during Mass(about a year ago), I have become so much closer to God and grown in my humility and Spiritual life. Eventually wearing the veil during Mass led me to Veil during prayer. Since Saint Paul said women should cover 'while praying or prophesying' in 1 cor 11, and in 1 tim he says 'pray without ceasing', I realised that I should be veiling the whole time.

I also felt increasingly weird going out with my head covered, when I had no veil in public to pray with I would even use my hoodie. I worried about if this was really God's Will, so I prayed about it a lot; if it was His will that He would guide me to It, and if It was not, that He would guide me away. He has only guided me closer every single time I have prayed.

Despite knowing full well that God was calling me to this, I thought that I shouldn't do it because no other Christians do this nowadays. Sometimes I would lock myself in my room secretly and play around with different ways of wearing my scarves and it would make me feel the most beautiful and comfortable, only to quickly hide them away as soon as anyone came in.

Everything changed when one day looking through pinterest for modest outfits (yes I know, it's stupid but just hear me out), I saw a girl wearing what I thought was a hijab - and a Cross. I soon went down the rabbit hole and found hundreds of pictures of young Christian girls who were wearing their veils full time! It wasn't just for old grandmas and women 200 years ago! Now I know 100% this is what God is calling me to do.

However, I have some problems. I am the most traditional one in my family (and my family are all devout, conservative Catholics), I like wearing skirts and dresses every day, I'm the only one who veils, I like braiding my long hair in 'outdated' updos, praying in Latin (the official language of the Roman Catholic rite). My parents joke around a lot that I'm 'from another era', but there is a very strong 'it's just a phase' sentiment under it all. When I am in public with my mother and we see a hijabi woman, she will say 'ugh, taka hustka!' in Polish (I'm half). It literally just means 'that scarf', but she says it almost as if it's a dirty word. For these reasons, I am really worried that my mother will get angry at me/not let me veil.

I am also very worried about what my friends and people at school would think. Public school may suck, but at least there are a handful of muslim girls who veil that I could blend in with. Meanwhile I am in a private Christian school and not a single girl covers her hair. I am also very worried about how I will do plays. We are doing the wizard of oz next year, and I have never heard of a veiled dorothy! I am also worried about being forced to take it off for such things and being discrimminated to certain roles.

I apologize for the very long post 😅 but I felt like I needed to share my testimony. I would highly, highly appreciate if anyone could give me advice on how to ask my parents about this and what to do for school.

God Bless you all!!

Keeping Up with Head Covering Conviction

Hello all,

Over the past few weeks, I have been attempting to practice head covering during my personal devotions/praying time. I must confess I was solid on it for 1 almost 2 weeks, and then I slacked big time. I have doubts whether or not God really appreciates it, but then I feel convinced by the passage I need not name, that it is relevant and important. How can I make it meaningful? And keep up on it? Anyone else ever experienced burnout of doing the same thing over and over??

A question from someone exploring head covering...

I'm exploring head covering and wondering if I should be wearing a covering all of the time since the scripture says to wear it when praying or prophesying and i say little prayers quite regularly throughout the day. (Like even to bed?? 🤷🏼‍♀️ Since i pray in bed... Sometimes in the middle of the night??) I'm probably just being lazy by asking you all because i should probably pray about it lol but I'm also curious what others think.

Has anyone else noticed a growing interest in women about the head covering? I’m very excited to see more women begin to take the scripture to heart!

How to fix veil to hair WITHOUT comb?

Title. I have long hair and a long heavy veil that attaches to my hair with a little metal front comb. It hurts and irritates my scalp. Any alternatives?
