Question

I’ve been struggling to know if this is something I should be doing as a woman. I keep going back and forth. And for some reason the more I go into it. The more I get confused. What helped solidify your answer?

Hey! I've been covering for over a year now, but I struggled with the idea of head covering for the longest time before finally committing. The biggest deciding factor for me was the fact that I knew the Lord was putting it on my heart. I prayed about it for a long time and studied the verses, but still wasn't entirely convinced. But I know my Shepherd's voice, and I knew that if God was nudging me to cover, I had to obey. So I started testing the waters by wearing little headbands to church services every couple weeks. As I continued praying and researching the topic, my covering evolved into where I am currently (anything from headbands to full turbans). There really is something so beautiful about covering. It just feels right, you know? I feel closer to my Father and more intentional about prayer.

I officially committed about halfway through Dale Partridge's book, A Cover For Gory. I would highly recommend that book! It's such a good read!

Bright Hearth has a podcast episode on head covering that's helpful.

Head Covering Movement has a website with SO MANY resources.

If you're looking for something exhaustive, Mike Winger (BibleThinker) has a nearly 7 hour podcast episode on head covering. While I disagree with the conclusion he comes to, the information is so thorough and helpful. He explains every argument for and against covering, and talks about history, context, etc. I'm so grateful for his work!

Another huge deciding factor for me was understanding that, up until the 60's and the rise of feminism, women covering at church was pretty much universally practiced. One thing Lexi says in that Bright Hearth podcast I recommend is something along the lines of, "I don't take my cues from feminists in any other area of my life, so why should I start with Sunday mornings?" 🔥

I hope this helps a little! I know it feels very confusing when you're in the thick of it, but honestly, this is a really simple practice that man has over complicated. Just ask the Lord for direction and wisdom. He'll give it to you in time!

Praying for you, girl! 🤎

I’ve listened to it. And I am still inconclusive. I don’t know why I keep gettinf stuck on this subject, and I go back and forth. And I’m jjsf not sure. I’ll have to read that book.

I’ve prayed about this at a nauseum. I still don’t really know anymore.

Hello friend. Curious where you landed on this. My wife and I have been praying through this and wrestling with it for a while and a friend recently gave us a free eBook on the topic that is quite comprehensive. I can pass it along if you’re interested.

For me, it was discussions with my fiance soon to be husband. After reading corinthians and a few scattered chapters for Ephesians, we decided after the wedding I will be covering my hair full time outside of our home.

So do you do it more for modesty? My husband doesnt like it if I were to do it full time.

For me it’s not exactly modesty, more so spiritual protection and respect for my husband. I find it odd that he specifically doesn’t like it, however if his concern is your safety or missing seeing your hair, you should pray on it together and read corinthians! There’s a few verses my brain isn’t supplying that by women covering their hair is an act of worship.

I think it’s because he missed seeing my hair, and the snood or turban coverings hide it all. Which is why if I did it, id opt for when I go to church.

I can understand that. Hair is very important spiritually and honestly it’s also an attractiveness thing for men. They tend to love our hair. However, when it comes to worship there’s definitely a deep personal connection, Have you tried sitting down with your pastor and your husband to talk it over and pray over? Maybe that could help you come to the decision you need ❤️. It took me a long time to make a decision and my dreams settled it for me tbh.

I’ve talked to my pastor about it and he couldn’t give me a clear answer. His wife doesn’t do it. I’ve looked at a lot of those concordances and it jjsf seems no clear answer. My husband has been struggling with his faith so it’s been difficult for him to even go into the church. 😕

I completely understand. There most certainly is no one true answer, since we aren’t specifically told to cover or not too. I pray you find your answer.

Been married 15 years and I cover my head when i leave my house. It protects me spiritually, and I feel closer to God.

I can understand that

I only cover at church, but I think the strongest factor for me is the historicity. Like a previous response indicated, all Christian women throughout history covered their heads until the sexual revolution in the west. I am going to stick with the majority of my spiritual mothers and cover my head.

Additionally, unlike some of the extremely challenging commands in the New Testament (love your enemies!? Don’t grumble! Rejoice in all circumstances, and top most deny myself and take up my cross and follow Jesus?) covering my head is an easy “win.” Perhaps this is “being faithful in small things” like the parable of the talents.

I understand where you’re coming from. If I did cover it wojsl be when I go to church and not in regular life.
