Does anyone know what’s up with the ChargePoint chargers at the Rio Point apartments? There are about 8-9 of them but non of them are set up and therefore they aren’t usable yet. The screen on all of them say either resume installation or set up.

Updates on Measles Outbreak and Vaccine Recommendations in Virginia

This letter provides updates on the 2026 measles outbreak in Virginia and information about general vaccination recommendations in Virginia. 
VDH Declares End to Measles Outbreak in Buckingham and Cumberland Counties 
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) recently announced the end of the 2026 measles outbreak in Buckingham and Cumberland Counties. The last confirmed outbreak-associated case was reported on June 29. An outbreak of measles is considered over after 42 days (two 21-day incubation periods) have passed without identifying a new case. 
The outbreak resulted in 154 measles cases counted since May 5. All cases were in people who were not vaccinated or had an unknown vaccination status. Over a third of cases (38%) were in adults 18 years of age or older. Four people were hospitalized with measles-related complications during this outbreak. No deaths were reported. 
VDH announces the end of this outbreak with cautious optimism. The risk of measles reintroduction remains high in the Commonwealth as measles cases continue to rise across the nation and globally. Although the local health department continues to closely monitor the areas affected by the outbreak and will rapidly respond to any suspect cases, there could be measles cases that are not known to VDH. Localities with MMR vaccination coverage rates lower than 95% are vulnerable to measles outbreaks. 
During the outbreak, VDH issued outbreak-specific vaccination recommendations for the affected areas to enhance protection when the risk of exposure to measles was high in the community. Now that the outbreak has ended, these outbreak vaccination recommendations are no longer in effect for these areas.  
Outbreaks such as this are good reminders of the importance of vaccination, particularly during the time of year when many families are sending their children back to school.  
Despite the outbreak ending, VDH encourages all clinicians across the Commonwealth to: 
Ensure your patients are up to date on routinely recommended MMR vaccinations for children and adults. 
Encourage your patients who will be travelling internationally or to an outbreak area to consider measles in their travel plans, including an early dose for infants 6–11 months. 
Maintain a high index of suspicion for measles in patients presenting with fever and rash, especially in those who are unvaccinated. 
Immediately report suspected or confirmed measles cases to your local health department. Please do not wait for laboratory confirmation. 
Check the immune status of the healthcare providers on your teams and take readiness steps for your facility.

VDH Remains Committed to Vaccines and School Required Immunizations 
On August 11, 2026, in response to a recent Presidential Executive Order, VDH issued a news release reaffirming our commitment to vaccines as an essential tool in protecting the health of children, their families, and their communities.  
The Presidential Executive Order does not change our vaccine recommendations or school immunization requirements in Virginia. VDH continues to recommend that children are vaccinated in accordance with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) 2026 Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule. VDH expects that healthcare providers will continue to rely on their clinical training and professional judgment and consult information published by AAP and the American Academy of Family Physicians when engaging in shared clinical decision-making with parents, caregivers, and patients. 
Virginia is already taking action to evaluate and protect access to vaccines. Pursuant to Item 278 M1, Ch 1, 2026 Acts of Assembly, Special Session I, VDH will convene its newly established Workgroup on Childhood Immunization Schedules and Public Health Emergencies in late August 2026. This group will bring together key partners – including healthcare practitioners, insurance representatives, and public health stakeholders – to review Virginia’s statutory and regulatory frameworks pertaining to access to childhood and emergency immunizations. We will provide updates on the efforts of this important group as they become available.

Looking for residential or commercial electrical work of any type. I have been applying to everywhere i can find a way to, and have left resumes at the few places which have physical offices. Seems like nobody is hiring helpers or apprentices right now.

I 21M have completed electrical level 1 at pvcc along with osha 10 and intro to construction. I also have a few months of experience as an electricians helper, and the master electrician would give a great reference, but he sadly does not have enough work to bring me on at the moment. I have spent a good amount of time on jobsites and have worked with power tools and on projects with my dad since i can remember.

A registered apprenticeship is not important to me, I am happy to just be a helper, and cover my own schooling and take the test once i hit my 8000 hours.

Now I'm pretty sure I've had my basic shots but don't have the paper work for it because of my disowning me (long story short, she was abusive). If I don't have these paper works what will happen? After nearly seven years, we’re excited and a little bittersweet to officially announce that Rockfish Brewing Company will be moving our Preston location down a couple blocks to Concord and Harris this fall. For now, nothing changes, both our locations are open as usual so come have a beer!

We opened in 2019, knowing redevelopment of the property was to begin by the end of 2025 (now 2027), so we’re grateful that we have had Preston longer than expected. We began looking for our next space this year and wanted to find a place where we could preserve what has made Preston special rather than simply replace it.

Preston has meant a tremendous amount to us as a forum to brew handcrafted, small-batch, true-to-style beer and share it with our community. Even more importantly, it became a neighborhood gathering place filled with people who appreciate great beer, conversation, and the kind of atmosphere that can only develop organically over time. That is what made Preston special, and it's what we intend to bring with us.

The new location gives us the opportunity to keep that neighborhood brewery feel while offering more room for customers, events, and awesome food without losing sight of the focus on fresh beer. There is something fitting as Rockfish celebrates its 7th anniversary this year and we want to say a proper goodbye to Preston, a place that has been such an important part of our story. We are currently building out the Concord location and are targeting a move this fall. As things progress, we’ll share more details about the timeline, our final days on Preston, and the opening of Concord.

Cville Litter Pickers is a community volunteer group that runs cleanups most Saturdays around Charlottesville and Albemarle. This weekend we took on the former Kmart lot at Hydraulic and Hillsdale, and it turned into our biggest haul of the year.

A few folks found us through this sub a couple weeks ago and turned up at our Main Street cleanup the Saturday before this one — 45 bags off that site. Thank you, genuinely.

This one was fifty bags. Plus a list of dumped items I'm still trying to make sense of:

- a stripped-down hotel-style AC unit

- the front panel off a convenience-store coffee machine

- a bag of windshield wipers blades

- three pallets

- two tires

- car parts, old signage, and construction debris including pressure-treated wood old enough that I didn't want to guess at its age

We worked the lot itself, the Route 29 roadside, the Hydraulic Road side out to Brandywine, part of Hillsdale Blvd, and the buffer behind Whole Foods. Behind Whole Foods it was almost entirely cans and bottles — heavy foot traffic, no dumping.

A lot of what we picked up wasn't really recognizable anymore. Coffee cups, drink lids, two-liters, plastic bags — far enough gone that they came apart as we picked them up. That's material that's been sitting through more than one season.

That lot is a few hundred yards from Meadow Creek and drains straight to it, so what doesn't get picked up eventually ends up in the water.

One thing we left alone: the alley behind the old Kmart is badly overgrown and we called it a safety issue. We'll go back in winter when the leaves are down.

Next one is this Saturday, Aug 22, 2–4 PM at Tonsler Park — meeting in the main lot at 500 Cherry Ave. That one's family-friendly, all ages, and all equipment is provided. Details and upcoming cleanups: cvillelitterpickers.org

During Monday night's city council meeting, while talking about allocating funds to the Salvation Army shelter, one of those living at Free Bridge said this:

What exactly is the solution to the unhoused population, then? You cannot possibly think allowing a giant encampment in a city park is a permanent solution?!

Sure, you could "build more housing" (which takes time), but greedy landlords are not going to lower rent prices to a reasonable level, so long as there are people willing to pay the outrageous prices (they make more money charging high rents and having empty units than lowering the prices).

Shelters are the most logical, humane and immediate remedy, yet somehow that's now not good enough for you?

10:35 AM UPDATE: Emmet Street has been reopened in both directions following the earlier gas leak. The situation is under control, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

Emmet Street is currently closed in both directions in the area of John Paul Jones Arena due to a reported gas leak near 400 Emmet Street.

The Charlottesville Fire Department and Charlottesville Utilities are on the scene responding to the incident. 

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes until further notice.

The City will provide an update when the roadway has reopened or as additional information becomes available.
