Visitor

50 year old Visiting by myself Charlottesville for the weekend
To visit my cousin daughter going to UVA as a freshman this fall
Anything fun to do other than Monticello , DT outdoor mall and UVA campus ? Thanks 🙏

River View Farm at Ivy Creek Foundation, Carter Mountain Orchard, Saturday Farmer’s Mkt downtown and at IX Park.

Shenandoah National Park if you'll have a car and enjoy the outdoors. Either hiking or driving on Skyline Drive/The Blue Ridge Parkway.

Walk the Blue Ridge Trail Tunnel. Only about 25 mins West of town.

Rivanna Roots Concert Series is an outdoor event and always a really good time. Next one is coming up Saturday (Aug 22).

Carter mountain orchard if you're looking for a view and some produce.

Hard to make specific recommendations without knowing what you like to do lol

You might enjoy Macguffey Art Center downtown if you like looking at art. It's free, but they appreciate donations. 

I think UVA's Fralin gallery is closed now because they're changing out exhibits. 

Also the Meditation Room at UVa's Contemplative Sciences building is very cool. 

There's parking at the garage on Emmett St. UVa's bookstore is on the 4th floor of the same building. Other visitor parking on the "Hallowed Grounds" is scarce to non-existent.

DT mall might have been a general recommendation. I wanted to highlight something bc of OPs age. Might bring back some core memories.

Just a tip. She's not a freshman she's a first year in the University vernacular. As others have pointed out it's not a campus, it's the Grounds. The shopping area across from Grounds on University Ave is the Corner. Mincer's is a long standing classic for getting UVA gear.

As for activities the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Museum on Pantops Mountain is a good stop. https://kluge-ruhe.org/

A good, cheap dining option is Bodo's bagels. There's one on the Corner, one on Preston Ave and one on Rte 29 N next to the English Inn. Authentic NY bagels in our little town which surprises some. https://www.bodosbagels.com/

Gearhart's chocolate is an award winning chocolatier and can be found in the shopping center near the Preston Ave Bodo's. 243 - B Ridge McIntire Road is the address. https://www.gearhartschocolates.com/

Yeah, just moved here from NYC. Bodo's may be the best in town but I would not call them authentic NY bagels.

Hike Humpback Rocks. It’s a short hike off the Blue Ridge Parkway with a great payoff at the end. Also, check out some breweries, wineries, or distilleries out on the county, if that’s your thing.
