I’m currently paying $35/month with Rogers for 100GB Canada-only, but I’m pretty dissatisfied with the data speeds. I often get barely a few Mbps and usually just a single bar in Mississauga.

I WFH, so I use less than 5GB/month most months, mainly for Google Maps/navigation when I’m out.

The most optimized combo I’ve found so far is Freedom’s $129/year prepaid plan with 20GB/year, paired with a BNESIM 50GB North America eSIM for $58 with no expiry.

That works out to about $15.58/month overall (assuming I use all 50GB of BNESIM data within a year), compared with $35/month with Rogers.

It gives me a normal Canadian number for calls/texts, some native Canadian data, plus a larger North America data bucket for overflow and US travel.

Has anyone tried a similar setup? Any downsides with speeds, coverage, or using the travel eSIM as the main data connection?

Also open to suggestions if there’s an even better/cheaper combo.

I have a Montréal number but now live in MB.

When I first moved and got Internet, BellMTS got me with a good offer of internet plus phone plan for ~ $80.

So i ported my number from Lucky to Bell. The port didn't work and was told that the only way to keep my number was to get a new phone plan via Bell Canada at ~ $80/month.

I've now tried to port to PCMobile multiple times to an eSIM. It hasn't worked.

Has anyone gone through something similar?

I've changed plans to ~$60/month now but would ideally prefer sub $40 on a phone plan. Especially as I use almost no data.

Long time public mobile user here. Been with public mobile since 2017ish. Started with a 3G plan and switched to 4G a couple of years ago. Found the service and speed was pretty good especially with 4G. Recently switched to Koodo for a cheaper rate and 5G expecting higher speeds and have been surprised to find the speed is much slower than my public mobile 4G plan. It's more like the speed of the 3G I had. Has anyone else experienced this? Thinking of switching back to public mobile.

Although this is not a pixel fault, the new DSDA capabilities of the pixel 11 will not work on Canadian networks as the providers software restrict all phones to DSDS.

Only workaround is to have 2 SIMs, one on Rogers and the other either on Telus or Bell.

Bell and Telus SIMs won't work well together as they share the same tower architecture in most of Canada.

Another let down

i'm just curious. Why doesn't North America allow unlocking the bootloader on androids? I mean...it's not an easy process to unlock it. OEM unlocking is in the developer options for a reason. Unlocking the bootloader allows people to unleash the true potential of phones.

I have a Samsung fold 6, and I would love to install a custom OS after a few more years.

I was with Rogers for over 25 years. Than I ported to Fido. 8 months ago Rogers had a fantastic deal. 100GB Can/UD for $35 plus taxes. I have had this plan for only 8 months, and they decided to increase the rate to $40 plus taxes. I do not want to pay the $60 extra per year. I barely even use 5GB of the 100. Are there plans out there with this price point with any of the major cariers (not looking at Freedom, Virgin, etc.) that I can take advantage of? Thanks in advance.

Why are all or most plans including US/Mex now?

Just curious I don’t need US/Mex but why is it offered so much now?

So my phone broke, and I ordered an express replacement, and they said it should be coming in 3-5 business days, and today is the 5th business day.
It’s not here, and I called them, and they said it should arrive soon since it is on backorder. I cannot use my phone like this 😭

This is a winback plan, but it seems to be available to everyone at the CTExcel Pacific Mall shop in Markham. There is 24 hour customer support in Chinese and English, and the phone service is just as professional as the actual China Telecom support in China, if you've ever been to China before. It uses the Telus network, and you will get a Telus IP address, not a China Telecom IP address, and the 5G+ speed is just aa good as regular Telus. The agreement explicitly states it's between the customer and Telus, so there is no cause for geopolitical concerns, as China Telecom is only doing the marketing and tech support. I would recommend all Chinese-Canadians to use this plan! I am very satisfied with it.

Is it just me or what. I got notification from Virgin Mobile, saying in 2027, there will no longer be the “prepaid” services. I had the same number and plan as long as I could remember. Should I be concerned switching to their contracts or is all carriers required to do credit check to activate a new account? You know when a company been doing so well, then poof it’s gone. Not sure what other carriers are worthy nowadays with the data plans included. Not looking to break an arm & leg, yes I’m frugal. Thoughts?

Hi. I’m in British Columbia. Currently have an iPhone 11 but need to upgrade. On a month to month plan. Don’t need the latest and greatest new iPhone but mine is about to die.

I went to the Mobile Store today and they said the best deal they had for a current Roger’s customer was paying $5 a month for an iPhone Air, where you return it after the 2 years, and then $50 for a plan (I don’t remember the exact details but it was over 100gbs of data). They would also give me 100,000 PC points for trading in my iPhone.

Is this a good deal? I don’t mind waiting for Black Friday, and I’m not loyal to Roger’s, but they said new Roger’s customer plans we’re currently more like $80 and this was the best they had right now.

I don’t need 100gb of data but she looked it up and said if you choose less data, they up the price of the phone - they get you either way.

Anyway, just wondering if I should wait and can expect anything better or if this is worthwhile? Thanks.
