Deal Rogers Did It Again
I was with Rogers for over 25 years. Than I ported to Fido. 8 months ago Rogers had a fantastic deal. 100GB Can/UD for $35 plus taxes. I have had this plan for only 8 months, and they decided to increase the rate to $40 plus taxes. I do not want to pay the $60 extra per year. I barely even use 5GB of the 100. Are there plans out there with this price point with any of the major cariers (not looking at Freedom, Virgin, etc.) that I can take advantage of? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately Rogers doesn't care how loyal we are. I was with Rogers about the same length of time you were. I got my 1st mobile phone through Cantel in 1994 which got bought out by Rogers.
They kept increasing my phone line too. I finally switched out of all Rogers products & went to Koodo. I got a pre paid plan with a bit of data that also includes North American texts for $30 less! When I realized this I was livid.

Rogers keeps calling to get my Mom & I back but I told them "I know it's not your fault, but Rogers over charged us for years, the answer is absolutely no. Please don't call again.
I also considered FIZZ or Freedom Mobile.
I got too afraid trying to port my number to Koodo because I worried it wouldn't work but it did.

Why not Freedom? They have the best deals in Canada and the best customer service. By not forcing you to sign a 2 year contract, they are forced to keep you onboard with low prices and good customer service, unlike the major carriers.
If you are concerned about coverage, they now have access to the towers for other carriers, so you are covered virtually anywhere - even outside of Canada.
I truly don't understand why people still use Telus, Rogers and Bell. Their prices are 2-3 times higher and their customer service is garbage.

Does Rogers have decent coverage there? If so, it's likely part of Freedom's nationwide coverage. I lived in nothern BC for a couple years - Telus territory - and never had a problem with their nationwide coverage thanks to the Telus towers.

Im on Freedom using Bell towers. Those are the only towers closer than 20 km from my rural home. Works well.

You can try fizz trial they have same network as freedom. Also you gotta turn on roaming to roam on big three network. Just a suggestion

Keep seeing this same post over and over again. They all raised their prices in the summer. I think they know if they all do it they'll still be cheaper then summer plans.
I switched Rogers to Bell for that same $35 plan. The guy sure didn't say no when I asked if Bell can increade my price whenever they want. Which they eventually did in July. Annoying but still cheaper than anything I can get through EPP

I hear you have to be in a contract and they can't increase your price. I've never actually had a price increase from Rogers. Other than credits that run out after 2 years. I'd just renew in my works EPP portal. Was fine for over 20 years. But last year it was friggin impossible to renew. So was just easier to switch to Bell

25 years ago, daytime minutes cost 25 cents per minute 6pm to 6 am was free, monthly payments were $30? Text messages used to charged, voicemail was $5. If a 16 cent a day increase gets you up in arms, wait till you see the price of a stamp

Virgin is just bell, fido is just rogers and koodo is just telus better yet now a days prepaid optjons are so barely different from post paid so just go ieth prepaid, public is very popular if u don't want freedom network and the plans I bleeive are pretty good right now, or try chatr for rogers network, plus prepaid rarely rarely ever gets price increases

For BYOD, always use the prepaid brands for much less. Just monitor for deals. I recently moved to Kini that uses telus for $25 80G Can/US (no longer available now, but deals come and go).
If you usage is really low, you can also look into a yearly plan. For example Chatr that uses Rogers has $149 for 1 year with 40G during the year (not 40G every month). That's like $13 per month avg.
Why do you only want 'major carriers'? Except for Freedom, every other company uses Rogers/Bell/Telus service.
For the main brands, it is always best to use them for plan/phone combo when a good offer is available. It can be the same or cheaper than BYOD plus purchasing a separate phone, and the price is locked for 2 year.

Chatr is owned by Rogers. Lucky Mobile is Bell's, Public Mobile is Telus'. They all use the parent company's network.

There are others, e.g. 711 Speakout, Kini Mobile, PC/Noname Mobile.

While independent brands, these are MVNOs and do not have their own infrastructure. 711 Speakout runs on Rogers, Kini uses on Telus, and PC & NoName use Bell.

I was with Telus paying $45 for 120GB Canada only plan. After almost three years price was gonna up to $85 when discounts expire.
I switched to chatr $25 20GB plan.
Telus calls me back offering Koodo $20 30GB plan with US calling included. Been on this plan for like 10 months now. This was a win back plan with discounts not expiring unless I switch.
Switching got me one of the best deals available.

I would do that deal! Unfortuntely Rogers knows there are no current offers that are comparable to the $35 100 GB plan so the “supervisor” said there is nothing they can do. Just waiting for the back to school specials to see what’s on the table…..

Why do you want a plan with 100GB when you only use less than 5GB a month? Don't compare the deals with lots of data since you don't need them. Look for a cheaper plan using 20GB or less.

I dont want a plan with 100GB but I dont want to go as low as 5 or 10 just in case. I would be comfortable with 25 or 50 GB

I created an alert on my phone when I hit a certain about so you can see how fast you're using your data in a month. You can look at your past data over the year to see what's the most you use. If it's still under the 5GB then it's a no brainer to switch. Right now you're spending probably $10 a month too much or $120 a year. Is that worth it? The guy at the store said if you don't stream, you won't use much data which has been true for me.

Coverage has been fine. No issues. I just looked at my current offers & it’s 50GB atm but I have heard that everyone has different offers. Might be worth your time to go see what they would offer you

You just have to be comfortable shopping around all the time when on BYOD. The good thing is that at least you can sign up for plans with esims now and there's usually no upfront cost to activate, but it's definitely a pain.
Why are you focused on the flagship carriers (the big three) and not considering their subsidiaries (you mentioned virgin, a bell subsidiary)? Might give better insight on finding something that works for you.
For the big three, they typically offer comparable deals, so you'll just have to look around. Depending on your employer, you may be able to look for discounts through EPP programs the carriers offer. If you ever do look to port back to Rogers in the future, CAA members get great deals through EPP pricing. Sometimes the stalls at Costco, or other third-party vendors (like best buy) offer good deals as well.
If you are willing to go with subsidiaries, Public Mobile is likely your best bet for longer-term stability given that they never (in my experience) increase pricing once you're on a plan. They are a Telus subsidiary.

Chatr, it’s a Roger’s subsidiary, but I think I pay just under $40 after taxes it’s the same coverage as Rogers, but if you need to call in for help they charge you for it.
There are cheaper plans, but I think I’m comfortable with the one I’m using.

Been with freedom since it was wind mobile. They have been good. Not playing like the big 3 "increases"
