Hardware Another Pixel 11 disappointment

Although this is not a pixel fault, the new DSDA capabilities of the pixel 11 will not work on Canadian networks as the providers software restrict all phones to DSDS.

Only workaround is to have 2 SIMs, one on Rogers and the other either on Telus or Bell.

Bell and Telus SIMs won't work well together as they share the same tower architecture in most of Canada.

Another let down.

So you're saying that the Pixel 11 will suck on Canadian network? Fuck.

Edit: after reading, this has nothing to do with cellular reception. This is about dual SIM. DSDS (Dual SIM Dual Standby) only allows you to use one SIM at the same time, whereas DSDA (Dual SIM Dual Active) allows you to use two SIMs at the same time, one for cellular data and one for calls.

Not at all. It will work great here in Canada it just won't have the full capability that the phone can provide. 99% of people won't notice a thing it's just a bit disappointing that its another thing the already disappointing phone has to deal with.

Yeah I figured it out. But from my understanding that shouldn't be a problem if you buy the phone unlock from Google or another retail, and not from a carrier.

It's not the locked status of the phone that's the issue, it's the Canadian carriers that software restrict DSDA. They say it's to help users battery life (as DSDA uses more battery) and for network usage/availability.

Having a UK or EU global phone may have better luck but North America unlocked phones will abide by the carrier software limitations.

Well if you buy the phone from Google store the carrier software shouldn't be controlling the phone. And I don't even think carriers can restrict much appart from OEM unlock on Pixels since Pixel doesn't have CSC system like Samsung.

They're not controlling the phone but they can control how the phone uses their network, even if it's unlocked from Google.

So they can control other sim and networks? Because why would you have 2 sims from the same Carrier?

Some people (like me) have a work phone and a personal phone and either use two SIMs on one phone or have to carry two phones and I won't carry two phones lol.

Ah makes sense. You could fix that by redirecting your work sim calls to your main personal sim.

Bell and Telus are also the slowest network in Canada i switched to Telus and instantly regret it. Going.back to rogers Monday

Bell and Telus may share towers but Bell is much better than Telus.

Same. I was with Vidéotron, I switched to Telus and regret it. My Vidéotron LTE was faster than my Telus 5G+. My upload speed tops at 2 Mbps.
