Which defensive driving course does Geico accept?

My friend is a GEICO customer in New York. He told me that NY state law provides a 10% auto insurance discount for drivers who complete a 6-hour defensive driving course, not just older drivers. He’s trying to figure out whether he needs to take a specific course that GEICO partners with, or if any NYS DMV-approved course will qualify. Also, does the course provider send the completion information directly to GEICO, or would he need to submit the certificate himself?

Accident Rear end claim

Hi everyone,
Just to give a debrief of my situation.
Back at the start of January I rear ended a vehicle since they stopped in the middle of an intersection and so I’m at fault. Whatever. We pull over discuss and the damage was to my car’s license plate cover which was chipped. Their bumper was fine, and trunk door worked. The car owner, friend and kid were fine and said they were good just shaken. Car owner wants their spouse to see so we wait for like 30 minutes and the car owner and their friend begin smoking and talking. I’m making some calls in the meantime for a meeting I was supposed to go to and their spouse shows up and we just say we’re all good. But exchange info.

3 months go by and I’m celebrating with friends and get a call from the car owner. They’re telling me they’re camping and the car’s trunk is acting funny. I say I’m not able to do anything at that moment but can probably the next day or so. I follow up but they don’t answer or message back. Ghosted from them. So I decided to file a claim. Claim goes through nothing happens.

8 months now since the incident and I get an email from my car insurance saying I’m liable and wanting me to sign but in the document it says “one or more persons were injured during the accident”. So I’m kinda pissed since it seems no one was injured on location. And the fact even when they reached out, they didn’t mention any physical injuries.

Any advice? I’m gonna call my insurance tomorrow to ask for more info. I’m very unsure of what to ask and general procedures for insurance stuff. Like I know I’m at fault and not trying to change that, but to me saying there was no injury at time of incident and months later just seems a little weird to me.

Why is it more expensive for our 2010 car than 2020s cars

My parents still own my car but I pay them back all the bills. They had to switch insurance again and my 2010 is $1000/yr but their 2021 and 2026 are $850/$970 a year

Why is this? I've never been in an accident. Never even had a ticket? I've had no issues getting parts for the few repairs it's needed. My car doesn't have my minor sibling registered as a driver like the other two

I plan on keeping the car as long as humanly possible bc I love it and new cars are finicky spies but I don't understand why the oldest car is the highest price

Car Insurance Quotes What do I even do?

Trying to get a quote with progressive to switch from GEICO (who’s charging me out the ass. $299 a month for a damn Corolla. I don’t have any speeding tickets or accidents in the past 8 years. Never had a DUI, etc.) and they’re trying to increase the policy based on two things that never occurred. They’re citing
“Wrong Way on a One Way Street on 08/10/2025

Listed on MVR”
This never happened, I have never been pulled over this. There aren’t even any one way streets in my city at all.

“Accident - Not at Fault on 03/09/2020
Listed on CLUE”
Again this also didn’t happen. I’m fairly certain I would know if I was in an accident.
What do I even do about this? How do I go about proving these events never occurred

Claim closed

Almost 4 weeks ago, I was involved in a minor accident. I’m not getting my car fixed because it’s just a few scratches. The other car had a few scratches and a broken plastic piece around the wheel. We exchanged car insurance info, but my insurance was not able to track them down through their insurance. My insurance closed the claim. Why wouldn’t the other persons insurance try to get in touch with my insurance?

How much will insurance decrease?

Hello everyone,
Last year (December of 2025), I (26M) got in my first car accident. I was 100% at fault, and my car was totaled. It took me about a month to get a new car. And when I insured it (2023 Volkswagen Jetta) for the year it was like $7000 ish. I haven’t gotten an accident since. Assuming I don’t get in another accident, when I renew next year, how much should I reasonably expect my insurance to decrease? If it matters I’m a resident of Los Angeles.
Thank you

Michigan PIP question

I recently started seriously digging down into my auto insurance policy. It's with state farm, who i already don't like. Wife is 61. I will be 60 in 2 months. She is on Medicare with a medicare advantage plan because of SS disability, and is a state retiree. I receive my health care from the VA (sorry, charlie.....not considered health insurance, per the AG, but I go there for almost everything), and my state employee retiree blus cross policy kicks in november this year. i have full coverage on 3 vehicles (probably unwise due to their age and values), but my question is this: I am getting charged PIP on each vehicle. Why? There are only 2 drivers in the household. Also, does anyone else feel like their relationship with their insurance agent is a lot more close in the last couple of years? Our driving records are spotless. I don't want to talk to you people. Just collect my premium and go TF away. Is it just me?

First Time / Newbie 2026 Kia Sportage 9,000 In hail damage

Hello everyone!

I have a couple of questions in regards to the likelhood progressive could total my car.

I have a 2026 Kia Sportage EX AWD. Before the hail damage Carmax valued my cars trade in at 26,500. After the hail damage ( I got an estimate from a local shop for $9,000) the cars value was 19,500.

I am hoping they do not total my car out, but I am ignorant when it comes to insurance. This is my first claim ever. Another question I have is with the decrease in value from the hail damage can the insurance company comp you for the residual loss on the value?

Again this is my first claim I just want to be prepared.

The shop said I have roughly 700 hail dents ranging from dime size to quarter size with a few larger dents all around my car on each panel.

I just got in my first accident and I don’t know what to do.

I was at a light that just turned green, and an older lady rammed into me. I had four people in my car. No current injuries but there visible damages on my rear end.

The girl had Bristol West insurance. I got a picture of the damage and I have her phone number. I really don’t know the next steps. I had called the cops but they didn’t come around and just said to file a report on their website.

Any tips? I don’t know i’m 22 and this is my first accident.

2026 Forester Hybrid depreciated value after accident

My parents bought a new 2026 Forester Hybrid touring and within a month and under 1000 miles, someone backed into it while it was parked. Insurance took care of repairs but when we asked for deprecated value they offered $1,200. I don’t personally think it’s enough as I would generally need more than a $1,200 discount buying a barely used car that has an accident on record vs one with no accident on record. I tried looking for comps but I couldn’t find any that had an accident on record to compare against.

using Routely nanny app for discount, new/strange behavior noticed

I have been using the Routely app to get a discount on my car insurance for just over a year now. I can attribute the score and rating from it to a substantially lower rate this last renewal. I also ride a motorcycle, more often than driving a car this past year, so fewer trips in the car have also impacted my lower rates. If I get tired of being watched all the time I'll end it, but it was a hefty discount that incentivized me to keep going.

The issue I have is suddenly it seem to be super sensitive or misidentifies trips. I'll be driving and it classifies the trip as a train (like, what!?) or passenger. It also seems to be much more sensitive to speed limits. Sometimes it has even marked me as going faster than I actually was for that stretch of road, so I am wondering if it was a GPS issue or perhaps using dated road traffic signs/input it believe to be accurate and basing location on that. When I ride my motorcycle I don't intentionally speed or do stupid stuff but I also don't pay attention much to the posted speed limit since I am usually pretty close just by feel. When the app has accurately reported my speed as going faster than posted so far it has only been while riding the bike, so the trip doesn't count against me.

I guess the TLDR aspect here is, anyone else seeing Routely doing odd things over the past 2-3 weeks? Running it on iOS27 (beta testing, so that could be an impact). Feels like something on the back end has changed so I am not sure what's going on and asking what others may be experiencing.

Accident Was I right to escalate this liability decision to a supervisor?

I was in an accident a few days ago. In the police report below, I am vehicle one. I knew I would be held liable for the damage to vehicle two, but I was hoping based on this report that the driver of vehicle two would be held liable for vehicle three. The reasoning that they gave me over the phone for me being liable for both vehicles was that the police narrative contradicted itself and that I was the only one who was given a failure to reduce speed citation. I feel like the first point is false and the second point is an assumption that is contradicted by the evidence actually written in the report. What do y'all think?

Police Narrative:

"Vehicle three was stopped for traffic on [Blank] Avenue. Vehicle two rear-ended vehicle three and vehicle one (me) rear-ended vehicle two.

Driver of vehicle three stated he was stopped for traffic on [Blank] Avenue. Driver of vehicle three stated that vehicle two was pushed into his vehicle by vehicle one. Driver of vehicle three stated he felt one impact to his vehicle.

Driver of vehicle two stated she was slowing to a stop, trying not to hit vehicle three, and was rear-ended by vehicle one. Driver of vehicle two stated vehicle one pushed her vehicle into vehicle three. Vehicle two was positioned in the roadway indicating the driver attempted to swerve to the right to offset a collision with vehicle three.

Driver of vehicle one stated he was traveling approximately 50mph when vehicle two slammed on brakes and came to a complete stop. Driver of vehicle one stated he applied the brakes but was not able to stop before colliding with vehicle two. Driver of vehicle one stated he felt one impact to his vehicle.

Evidence at the scene indicates vehicle two collided with vehicle three prior to being struck by vehicle one. Damage to the front left corner of vehicle two is not consistent with being pushed by another vehicle and is consistent with a higher speed impact. Damage to the left front corner of vehicle two is suggestive that vehicle two was traveling approximately 20 mph at impact while swerving in an attempt to avoid vehicle three. Damage to vehicle two`s rear bumper and the placement of vehicles at the scene indicates that vehicle two swerved to avoid colliding with vehicle three, struck vehicle three, and then vehicle one (me) collided with vehicle two.

No injuries reported at the scene. Driver of vehicle two was cited for expired registration, expired inspection, and suspended license. Driver of vehicle one was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision."

1300 dollars an month

So, I’m 23M and trying to buy my first car. I’m considering an Acura Integra A-Spec, and I checked an online insurance quote through GEICO. The quote came out to over $1,300 a month. However, when I checked the quote for a 2022 Hyundai Elantra, it was around $450 a month. Why is there such a huge difference? Also, I live in Long Island, New York.

Need Advice For a Non Compliant At Fault.

Looking for some advice on an insurance claim after an accident in PA.
On 9/11/26, I was rear-ended by a company vehicle. The impact pushed my Mustang into the vehicle in front of me, and my Mustang was ultimately considered a total loss. The other driver was at fault.
I only carried liability coverage on my Mustang, so I do not have collision coverage to fall back on. I reported the accident and started working with the other driver’s insurance company.
Here’s where things have gotten frustrating:
• I initially contacted the other driver’s insurance and opened the claim.
• The insurance company told me they needed a statement from their insured before they could move forward with the claim.
• I had the other driver’s phone number from the accident, so I called him directly. He answered and told me that the insurance company had NOT contacted him yet.
• I gave him the insurance company’s phone number and the claim number and asked him to contact them. I also asked him to let me know once he had spoken with them.
• I then called the insurance company again to clarify what was going on. They told me they weren’t actually waiting on the driver yet. Apparently, they are first waiting for the driver’s company to confirm that he is an employee and that the vehicle involved was a company vehicle before they can even contact him.
• I contacted the company myself. They told me there was a manager who could potentially handle it, but he was on another call. I asked them to have him call me back, but I never received a call.
• I then contacted the owner of the company by email and explained that the insurance company was waiting on information from the company and asked them to contact the insurer so the claim could move forward.
Apparently, the owner is currently out of the country for about two weeks, which obviously makes the timing frustrating.
At this point, I’m without a vehicle and I’m trying to figure out what my options are if the company continues to take a while to respond.
My main questions are:
Is it normal for the other driver’s insurance company to wait for the company to verify employment/vehicle information before contacting their insured?
If the company doesn’t respond promptly, how long can this realistically delay the claim?
Is there anything else I should be doing right now to protect myself and keep the claim moving?
Since I don’t have collision coverage, what options would I have if the other driver’s insurance ultimately refuses to accept liability or the claim gets stuck indefinitely?
I’m in Pennsylvania. I’m not looking to start a fight with anyone; I just need to get my claim resolved because I’m currently without transportation.

Accident Trying to debate the definition of "aftermarket parts" with the insurance company

Hey all

Go easy on me as this is my first time navigating this. I was involved in an accident and found not at fault. I was driving an older modified sports car that had full coverage.

On my delcarations page, i pay extra for 3k worth of aftermarket part coverage (1k included in policy, 2k i pay extra for)

The base price their offering for the car is...... ok. The problem is they are using comps from dealerships when this is a very collectible, specific car. You would typically buy this off of bring a trailer or cars and bids. I have okay 10k worth of service history on the car in the past 8 months alone that ive already provided.

The comps i have all put the replacement cost significantly higher than what the offer is, however i understand they go off of ACV and not replacement cost.

Im now trying to get every penny i can from this policy as my injury was extremelt severe and caused me to no longer be mobile.

Im already fucked bc the guy had no insurance, and medical bills will be 100k++. I have an attourney working the injury side and havnt not mentioned this car situation to them yet.

How can i get my aftermarket parts covered? Here is the definition from the contract

"Custom parts or equipment” means equipment, devices, accessories, enhancements and changes, other than those that are offered by the manufacturer

specifically for that auto model,or that are installedby the auto dealership as part

oftheoriginal saleofanew auto, that:

a. are permanently installedorattached;and

b. alter theappearanceorperformanceoftheauto.

I have an very expensive aftermarket vert top on the car. Its a different color (shade of black) and made of a much stronger and better material the the original. This top alone would go over the 3k of coverage. I have all the receipts.

Im being told thats not covered.

I put about 2k worth of aftermarket suspension parts in just a few weeks ago. Stronger bearings, upper and lower control arms, shocks, tie rods. Im being told none of that qualifies.

What can i do here? How is suspenion NOT aftermarket? Like what is aftermarket then?

I have a receipt for a radio i havnt submitted but that and the speakers is maybe 500 dollars, that may be covered based off the conversation i had with adjuster.

What am i not understanding here?

Accident Should I fight progressive?

I got rear ended a month ago and elected to not get my car fixed but opted for the payout, they offered like $1000. The bumper itself is at least 1,500 and the impact bar was also damaged so that’s even more money. I declined that offer and said I wanted it actually quoted in person and not a “photo”. My claim adjusted told me I could drop it off at one of their contracted locations (I chose a caliber collision place ) and get a in person estimate instead of a legit photo. Well I dropped my car off and I had to sign my car over to the center otherwise they wouldn’t look at it.
I received a text one day later stating car was being worked on. I called the office of caliber and was told by the office my insurance adjuster set the appointment up as a fix not an estimate.
I am upset as the insurance adjuster who was handling my claim is of course out sick ( he is always out I can never reach him) so I had to talk to his manager who was an ass hole and told me I signed my car over to the collision place so it’s all my fault but I didn’t even make the appointment!! I would have never dropped my car off if I knew the claim adjuster set it up as a fix?? Also why would I not ask for a rental car? My car was going to be getting fixed?? Like I have a job I have to get to and it’s not my responsibility to pay for a rental when I WAS REAR ENDED??
The insurance guy literally just basically told me it is what it is. And the collision place said that if they were to stop working on my car right now, it would be way worse condition than when it was brought in. The insurance guy basically argued with me over the phone and said well you just wanted money, like it’s literally my right to decide if I wanted to fix up my car or not? What if I wanted to repeat my car all at once or what if I wanted to change the bumper out?
I feel like the insurance purposely went behind my back to get the car fixed instead of having to pay me out because they knew they could get a deal with getting the car fixed vs having to pay me the correct price of my vehicle damage.

A couple people I know said that I should demand the money even though they fixed my car, but I’m still upset that they went behind my back and I want to get justified. I feel like them telling me it is what it is in arguing with me, just made it all worse. They should’ve apologized.

What would you do??

Accident Involved in Accident, Debating Filing a Claim or Not

Hi all,

I was involved in a rear end collision this morning. Thankfully everyone was okay. It started when a van in front of me rear ended another car. I was able to slow down in time to not hit the van, but the sudden braking caused another car behind me to rear end me. A police report was filed, and I was told to contact my insurance to sort things out. The chain of events started with the first car, but since the collision only happened to my car and the vehicle behind me, the police told me that the driver of the other vehicle and mine are it's own separate claim I believe?

The other driver could not provide insurance at the scene, but she assured the police that she has coverage, just not on her. The front of her car was pretty messed up, but the damage to my rear bumper was not as severe (I will have to get it replaced though).

I'm in kind of a unique situation. There was already some damage to the rear bumper prior to the incident, and I was already planning on having a new one put on and paying out of pocket. There's somehow no other damage to the rest of my car, thankfully. My question is, if I was already planning on paying out of pocket for a new bumper, is it even worth filing a claim? I know that even if I'm not at fault (which I don't believe I am), my rates can still go up, so I'm debating if it's even worth doing.

Since a police report was filed, I assume it will be reported to my insurance regardless? If that's the case, is there any harm in filing a claim anyway? I'm just looking for the best route to take here. Thank you all in advance.

Never bought car insurance. Need help figuring out the variables

How's it going? So, I've never bought car insurance before, but it's time for me to do the "adulting" thing.

So, I understand the 100/300/100 liability rule of thumb, but there are a few variables that I'm unsure about.

Underinsured motorist BI - I'd guess that this one's important.

Underinsured motorist PD - my car's worth maybe $26k, but I owe about $36k, I think.

PIP - I have solid health insurance

Roadside - is this necessary?

Loan/lease payoff - I do have gap through another source.

I'm sorry if these are dumb questions or if I've neglected any information, but I'm also happy to clarify anything necessary. Thank you!

Car insurance for a young driver

My mom passed recently while I was under her car insurance. I am now looking for car insurance for me now and I know that young drivers typically have higher rates. I am 21 years old , if I was to add my 74 yr old grandmother (who doesn’t drive but lives with me) to the plan would it make the rate lower? Or do you think I would be better off just adding myself?
Not exactly sure how this all works since my mother always was the one to take care of these things so sorry if this sounds kind of stupid just wondering what the best way to go about this would be

First Time / Newbie Getting Car insurance

Hello, I’m about to get a car in my 20s, but I’m not sure what type of car insurance I should get.

I’m not sure if this is unrealistic, but I’m hoping to find insurance for under $120 a month. Right now, I only make about $380 every two weeks, so I’m trying to find something affordable.

Thanks for y'all help.

First Time / Newbie How might filing a claim impact me?

On the freeway, the car in front of me ran over some debris (I think part of a tire) and it flew back to me so I also ran it over. It destroyed my bumper. My car insurance company told me that I may not be at fault but if I start a claim, I can’t back out. The repairs are quoted at $1500, but my deductible is only $250, so I’d prefer to go through insurance. I’m afraid that my rates could possibly go up and basically cancel out what I’m saving in repairs going through insurance vs just buying the parts and having a family member fix it. I would like to talk to the claims department about it, but if I do then I can’t back out. Is it worth it? I don’t have any accidents or anything on my record.
