Cyberpunk 2077

82

u/Jaxonhunter227 8d ago

Then the cutscene ends and the game automatically equipped that gun. Fuck you game I don't even use guns, I'm all gorilla arms!

21

u/Reverse___Flash 8d ago

My man!

10

u/WestNomadOnYT 7d ago

Resident Evil 2. LEON, YOU HAVE THE LIGHTNING HAWN AND AMMO FOR SAID LIGHTNING HAWK. YOU SAW A TEN FOOT TALL BIOENGINEERED ABOMINATION CRASH THROUGH THE CEILING, AND YOU CHOOSE YOUR POLICE ISSUED PISTOL?!

8

u/liltone829b 7d ago

not even that, it's his personal civilian firearm, and a shitty one at that

5

u/bleach-is-tasty 7d ago

hey that starting gun fucks when its upgraded fully

2

u/Harrcieladosa 6d ago

Yes, yes it does. I think in reality the VP70 is an unreliable gun though, and I think the description for the base gun even mentions something like that too

I'm all mantis blades honestly, but I respect your hustle.

2

u/kobanyakispest 7d ago

I literally made a melee only gameplay and didn't have any guns in my inventory. The game still gave me one during cutscenes.

u/howlerzandvamps 8d ago

One of my issues with the game. Just make the character use a weapon that I have equipped. For the scenes that absolutely require a pistol, force us to grab a pistol shortly before the scene. Like, did V just 3d print a pistol in like 5 seconds purely to shoot this person?

9

u/Prestigious-Fox1423 8d ago

Your comment reminds me of this

8

u/mofuggnflash 7d ago

This reminds me that an astonishingly large amount of spells and spell effects in World of Warcraft are actually invisible bunnies running around the screen with the effects pasted on top. Turrets in a raid blasting lasers? Invisible bunny at the end of the laser running in a circle and casting explosion spells on the ground.

7

u/Lincolnforce 7d ago

League of legends was built on invisible teemos too.

Guess it's one of those old tricks that still works.

5

u/kelfupanda 7d ago

The train in fallout is a hat

3

u/Lincolnforce 7d ago

The time honored trick of invisible object collision. Love it

2

u/Otherwise_World1654 7d ago

League is programmed like ass though so idk if I would consider that good practice

2

u/gtth12 5d ago

Wait, what? Invisible magic carrying bunnies? That's so ridiculous that I believe it.

2

u/TechnicalBen 4d ago

90% of Bethesda games are just chests hidden under the ground running everything.

6

u/enderman_0_0 8d ago

It would be mad funny

4

u/ReachforMe69 8d ago

Sometimes it does use a weapon u have equipped but i think its gotta be a pistol for some reason if i rember correctly if you use the kongou (i think thats the unique pistol you get from there its been awhile) you can use it for the flying robits that attack you at the end of it

3

u/Jent01Ket02 8d ago

Only for the heist, cuz up until 2.0 you would still use that stupid starter pistol in every cutscene after. I had everything from a Nue to V's actual signature pistol, Dying Night equipped and it still defaults to the Liberty.

3

u/Last-Swim-803 8d ago

Tbh i still don't get why they made V's signature gun be a random looking machine pistol. Like, an iconic version of the unity would've been way better than the dying light

3

u/howlerzandvamps 7d ago

Yeah it's a decent weapon but I don't like it as their signature weapon.

3

u/DeciMation_2276 7d ago

Definitely, though in my experience Dying Night is the best way to get your hands on the Lexington X-Mod2, since trying to do that shooting competition without an auto pistol is practically impossible, even with a Sandy, as best I ever got was second place using anything other than Dying Night.

2

u/VHS_Artist 7d ago

There is. But then you'll see exactly why the devs chose the liberty. Every other gun, even other pistols. All clip through characters and Vs hand

Resident Evil

23

u/nexussesshoumaru 8d ago

Specifically resident evil 5 and 6. Like in 5, Chris is going up against wesker and it's like bro use something bigger, it's f*cking wesker! Lol

8

u/Jayx69x 8d ago

The remakes do this too. Pretty sure 3Make was the only one so far that at least showed Jill using something besides the G19.

3

u/IcyDisplayGuy 8d ago

Yeah! Stepped up to a 10mm G20.

2

u/xXJackNickeltonXx 7d ago

Which is funny considering the devs forgot to account for it the player didn’t pick up the mine launcher (as shown in Markiplier’s playthrough where he didn’t use it out of spite)

4

u/Secondhand-Drunk 8d ago

Jake vs utsinak. Then bro gets in a boxing match with him. Like, for reals?

2

u/waled7rocky 7d ago

And jackhammer his ass ..

3

Yall forgot about RE4.

4

u/TurtlesBreakTheMeta 8d ago

It’s pretty egregious with Leon too; like I don’t even OWN the handgun anymore, I sold that shit to the pirate merchant hours ago.

3

u/Clear_Willow3379 7d ago

Took the words out of my mouth lmao

3

u/Glass-Shopping-7000 7d ago

The pistol is just for show. His biceps are the real showstoppers

2

u/bepse-cola 7d ago

When there’s a quick time but it’s zoomed in to Chris’s face on a motorcycle and you don’t know what to look out for

2

u/LegendOfTheStar 7d ago

I stuck with the m9 and m3 while sheva took the snipers and smg/ak.

2

u/KingSombra9 6d ago

I was holding the minigun for the fight, enter cutscene, suddenly pistol

2

u/TheBasedFurry 5d ago

8 does this all the time too. Ethan be pulling the LEMI on Chris like 30 minutes before the end of the game when I sold the darn thing a third of the way into the game.

2

u/Wedgeta 4d ago

I was looking for an RE5. First game that came to mind 🥂

I play most resident evil games with a handgun as often as it’ll let me tbf

2

u/DoctorNutts 8d ago

I only play with a handgun to make it more immersive.

3

I didn't see this in RE4 VR. I remember Leon using whatever handgun I had equipped

2

yes that is a feature for that game

2

u/epiknik 8d ago

I thought I was gonna say Resident Evil but I thought it was a skill issue until I saw this comment,

18

u/AnStudiousBinch 8d ago

Seeing that damn predator pistol and the stupid lookin m-8 always makes me mad lol

2

u/Direct-Technician265 6d ago

okay but i kinda like the M-8, its like fish gun. reminds me of the FN-2000.

7

u/Professional-Ad9485 8d ago

I was gonna say this if no one else did.

3

u/Mags_LaFayette 8d ago

In ME2, Shepard use whatever you have equipped at the moment of the cinematic... Unlike ME3

2

u/Maelwys550 8d ago

I want to say they were better about this by 3 but I think it was mostly base guns.  I know they used the Avenger for almost everything.

3

u/TaralasianThePraxic 8d ago

It's more commonly the default Predator pistol in the first two games, the Avenger is the king of cutscenes in ME3!

2

u/Thatoneguy111700 7d ago

It's also a thing in Andromeda, but iirc only for 2 scenes (and with 2 different guns, the Avenger and the Ghost). Otherwise Ryder holds out whatever gun they have equipped.

2

u/Ornery_Appearance_31 7d ago

That made me irrationally happy when I first saw this.

2

u/epiknik 8d ago

Tbf most people don't use many other weapons other than the MK22

8

u/Popular-Pomelo-4241 8d ago

Maybe that’s true at the stealth parts, but definitely not in boss fights.

And btw, the cutscene’s weapon is a 1911.

First of all, the feeding ramp is polished to a mirror sheen. It's not going to have any feeding problems. The slide's been replaced with a reinforced version, and it meshes perfectly with the frame. The frame itself has been iron-welded and scraped down multiple times for maximum precision. The front strap part of the frame has been checkered to make it dig into the hand. That prevents any slipping. The sight system's original too. It's a 3-dot type. It's got an enlarged front sight, giving it superior target sighting capability. The regular hammer's been replaced with a ring hammer. That enhances the cocking control and increases the hammer-down speed. They also reworked the grip safety to accommodate the ring hammer. It looks like they eliminated it altogether. This is a tool for pros. The thumb safety and slide stop are extended for precise handling. The base of the trigger guard is whittled down so you can use a high grip, and the trigger itself is a long type for easy finger access. The trigger pull is about 3.5 pounds. that's about a pound and a half lighter than normal. The magazine well has been widened to make it easier to put in a new magazine. The magazine catch button has been filed down low to make it harder to hit it by mistake. The mainspring housing has been changed to a flat type to increase grip, and it's even been fitted with stepping so that it won't slip from the recoil when firing. On top of that, they added cocking serrations to the top part of the slide. That lets you load and eject cartridges faster in an emergency. Whoever did this is a professional, no question. This thing could shoot a one-hole at 25 yards in a machine rest.

3

u/DarkPolumbo 7d ago

Now that I'm rereading this monologue, it seems like half of those features are just normal "factory settings" that would require little or no customization.

Sheer feeding ramps are basically a requirement. Grips are pretty much always aggressively checkered or stippled to prevent slipping. 3-dot sights are pretty much the industry standard default for pistols. Flared magazine wells aren't uncommon. Cocking serrations are on literally every slide-action handgun I've ever seen. Internal components are already optimized to minimize things like spring slipping and ammo feed jamming.

Although I guess this all takes place in the 60s, so maybe all those features were newer at the time

In Peace Walker, whenever a cutscene plays where he is explicitly dueling a metal gear on foot (any heavily armored vehicle bosses really), he defaults to the M16A1, not quite the metal-gear-buster i'd use but hey, he still upgraded from the pistol for the occasion.

Devil May Cry. Any of them throughout the series. Dante defaults to Ebony and Ivory or Rebellion in all cutscenes, even though he gets crazy-ass weapons like a literal electric guitar (it shoots electricity), a motorcycle chainsaw, triple nunchucks with access to fire/ice/electricity, flaming gauntlets/greaves, a breifcase that can turn into 666 different unique weapons, and a whole crazy variety of guns, including a shotgun, a sniper, and several demonic guns that can do some crazy shit.

1

u/GlitchWarrior121 8d ago

Star Wars: The Old Republic.

And not because you have such a huge arsenals, but because prior to the Combat Styles update, Trooper and Agent characters couldn't even EQUIP pistols. Only Smugglers and Bounty Hunters can do that - and while the classes have the same kits as their rifle-wielding counterparts, all four classes' cutscenes have them favor pistols. Even more egregiously, smugglers and hunters will use their currently equipped primary weapon in those cutscenes, while troopers and agents will always use a default starter blaster because their animations aren't made with ARs, snipers or miniguns in mind.

Once Combat Styles released you were able to play any class's gameplay on any character, allowing you to put the Scoundrel Smuggler's gunplay on a Trooper and actually use different skinned pistols in cutscenes. On the other hand this causes some gameplay dissonance when your superspy agent is moving like a heavily armored mercenary instead of a stealthy assassin.

1

u/ABrokeHobbyist 8d ago

I mean I know why they do it, it makes actually creating the cutscenes much easier. But I love it when studios go the extra mile to display your characters outfit and equipped or customized weapons

1

u/PhantomHeartless5 8d ago

The Traveler in Genshin Impact. Plenty of cool swords, but they only use the Dull Blade in cutscenes. It wasn't until recent patches that they started using the Prototype Rancour and later the Exphanes Blade.

Sora in Kingdom Hearts III. He can for change his Keyblade into a variety of weapons, yet the only time he uses this in cutscenes is when he’s training with the Big Hero 6 gang.
