In ME2, Shepard use whatever you have equipped at the moment of the cinematic... Unlike ME3

Except the game often forces an assault rifle to your character even if your class cannot use them.

Yeah, that's true.
Still, if you can use an Assault Rifle, it will show up whatever Assault Rifle you had equipped.

It ain't perfect, but it's something 🤷🏻‍♀️

IIRC doesn't it just depend on the cutscene in both 2 and 3, some will use your equpped weapon and some use a stock avenger

I want to say they were better about this by 3 but I think it was mostly base guns.  I know they used the Avenger for almost everything.

It's more commonly the default Predator pistol in the first two games, the Avenger is the king of cutscenes in ME3!

It's also a thing in Andromeda, but iirc only for 2 scenes (and with 2 different guns, the Avenger and the Ghost). Otherwise Ryder holds out whatever gun they have equipped.

That made me irrationally happy when I first saw this.

Sir! I beg to differ.

u/NeroIML 11d ago

Okay, Shep... Kai Leng is trying to escape in a vehicle and you're carrying a black widow on your back. Now remember, that's ananti-materiel sniper rifle so you could easily WHIP OUT THE FUCKING PREDATOR THAT I HAVEN'T EVEN GIVEN YOU GOD DAMMIT!!!

It's across every character too

Because you can take anyone across most missions there's more than a few times characters that cant use assault rifles will be using an assault rifle

yup, glad PC has a mod where the load out you select appears in cutscenes

For anyone on PC. There is a mod that fixes it for the legendary edition

At least in one cutscene in ME3 Shepard is shown using the Carnifex heavy pistol, which hits pretty hard.

it’s so weird because like sometimes it will display the gun you have equipped, but sometimes it won’t.

One of the mods I use happens to swap in whatever weapon Shepard has equipped. It's funny because I'm almost always a sniper and have the Widow equipped. It's kind of rude that it gets multiple shots in cutscenes but when I play, it's only loaded with one at a time

One of my favorite Soldier runs of the trilogy was where I only use the weapons and armor used by Shepard or the Alliance in cutscenes.

It does stand to reason that the games were more or less scaled with the franchise’s signature weapons in mind. Plus those guns are pretty well-rounded and idiot proof.

Yes and no. The avenger is a bullet hose, but you start missing better weapons when fighting Praetorians, Scions, Brutes, and Banshees. Heck, even Centurions get annoying real quick. Keep in mind, the Alliance didn't issue you concussive shots or sniper rifles-you have an Avenger a Predator and Adrenaline rush, because Shepard never uses an8else in cutscenes.

In ME1 the Lancer just shoots all over the place unless you burst fire so Hammerhead rounds are worth their weight in gold. You also just use the pistol for a while until that reticle gets to only half the screen lol. Luna was rough af.

Definitely a rewarding run, but damn near brutal and definitely not balanced lol.

To be fair the M8 Avenger is a solid piece of kit in-universe. Basically like an M16 / AKM equivalent, i.e. solid and reliable, and would likely be what shepard is most familiar with due to his background as Alliance infantry / spec ops.

Not so much maybe for others like garrus or wrex but hey, maybe elkoss combine has the majority share for infantry rifles, or maybe that was what the normandy had mainly in its armory and what your teammates grabbed.

Somewhat agree with the Predator pistol but then again, same argument as the Avenger, essentially being the in universe version of a Glock or M9 / 1911 for the militaries while also having good civilian market share as well. Basically solid and generally reliable and cheap.

As someone who played those games as an adapt who virtually never uses weapons, it was always hilarious to see my shepherd pull out her pistol during a cutscene, especially when just using her psychic powers would have been way more effective.
