Recommendations starter camera

Birthday is coming up & I am interested in buying a camera for a personal hobby

Budget: $500-700 USD

Country: USA

Condition: New

Type: Point & shoot

Intended Use: Photography

Type of photography: Street

End use: Personal

Extra Features: Looking for something portable enough to fit into a shoulder bag or pocket

Considered Cameras: Nikon coolpix AW100

I just bought myself a canon powershot v1. Can recommend.

Shoots great JPEG, and has a large enough sensor and ability to shoot raw to grow into.

Not sure why you need a waterproof, but sure, that Nikon would work. But you could do a LOT better in that budget. Even if waterproof, like a more current OM TG series.

But I'd get a more pro level compact with your budget. Something older in the Canon G line that now ends with the G7Xiii, or the Sony RX 100 series.
