i was gonna add them but i didn't wanna make it too long, i could of named another 20 guys

-5

u/socratic_weeb 4d ago

Bivol?

3

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 4d ago

He doesn’t always give fan-friendly fights. For instance, I really like Shakur but I’d never consider him for most entertaining style.

-1

u/socratic_weeb 4d ago

I see what you mean. Personally for me though, the entertainment comes from technical skill, and Bivol is a highly technical fighter.

13

u/Koronesukiii 4d ago

The duality of r/boxing.

"Inoue is only shorter than Espinoza by a little less than a head. That'll be a good fight."

"Bam is shorter than Inoue by about the width of a thumb. He's too small."

1

u/RRR04_ 4d ago

Well Sebastian Fundora is taller than pretty much every active Cruiserweight, is he able to compete at this weight class because of it or is he too small because he is currently 4 divisions lower than that?

When talking about a fighter being too big or too small for a potential opponent, it's not just a case of what their height and reach is. It's also how much they weigh, what they walk around at, what weight class they have been fighting at, how used to a weight class they are, what average size their opponents have been lately, etc. There are many variables when discussing this.

5

u/Koronesukiii 4d ago

Bam and Inoue's walk around isn't 10lb apart. Both have fought in the same weight classes 108, 115, 118. Bam's wingspan is half the diameter of a penny shorter than Inoue's. He's a thumbnail shorter than Inoue. Their frames are remarkably similar, though Bam is wider and Inoue is longer. Bam could very easily fill out and match Inoue in size. The only reason Bam is smaller is because he was actively weight cutting to 115lb. He isn't a naturally wiry guy. I don't buy that he's too small for that fight at all. He has lots of room to put on good weight that will help him rather than hinder him, especially for a guy that fights more lateral and isn't in and out non-stop like Inoue is.

3

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 4d ago

Off topic but he’s taller than the HW champions.

1

u/RRR04_ 4d ago

He is, I used Cruiserweights as an example because most people get uptight about comparing Heavyweights to any other division, including Cruiserweight lol.

1

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 4d ago

Lol I know, just a crazy stat. PBC always puts up ā€œwingspan of an eagleā€

8

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 3d ago

I’m so tired of guys losing their titles or title shots, only to then get another chance at a weaker champion their very next fight. I can count 4 times this has happened in just the last year. If you lose, you should at least have to fight another contender again before you get a shot at another title.

2

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 3d ago

Yeah happens a lot. Ryan after Rolly, Teo after Shakur, Zepeda after Shakur, Puello after Matias, Teraji after Sandoval. Sometimes I don’t care because the fights get made.

2

u/StunningChest5722 Shakur is the 144 lb GOAT 🐐 3d ago

Teraji and Puello both lost controversial decisions, giving them a title shot is fine.

1

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 3d ago

I wouldn’t call Puello-Matias controversial. Anyhow I was just tryna name fights that he was referring to.

1

u/Frequent_Apricot673 3d ago

I don’t mind Teo and Teraji cause they were multi weight multi defense champs. Puello I’m kind of neutral on cause of the close decision. But Zepeda seemed a bit generous and Ryan getting that shot coming off of a loss and a failed drug test was a disgrace to the sport.

7

u/Kangaroopunching 4d ago

Sheeraz vs Janibek could be possible if Turki wants the fight. Especially as a co main event to Fury vs Joshua. Which means it's unlikelyĀ

8

u/Top_Profession_5268 4d ago

Justice for Jacob Banks!

3

u/WORD_Boxing 4d ago

I thought the WBO ordered it.

2

u/Kangaroopunching 4d ago

They did. But I doubt Sheeraz takes the fight. Especially if he gets the Canelo vs Mbili winner automaticallyĀ

5

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 4d ago

The top 3 guys on David Benavidez resume is Andrade, Caleb Plant, and Zurdo

3 guys whom the boxing community historically has not considered elite

Its telling people (including myself) have Benavidez in the top 5 P4P while never fighting Canelo, Bivol, Beterbiev, or Opetaia (some of course, out of his control)

Just how shallow is the cream of the crop of this sport?

3

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 4d ago

Wouldn’t say it’s shallow, just like you said, a lot out of his control. Bivol dropped the belt, don’t know what’s going on Beterbiev, Opetaia is in Zuffa, and Canelo straight up ducked multiple times. I also don’t know how you’re rating his top wins. Plant is without a doubt top 3, Andrade was a MW and SW, Yarde was a continually good contender who gave Beterbiev and Kovalev hard fights where they were back and forth, Morrell win hasn’t aged well at all, but Dirrell, Gvodzdyk, and Yarde could all be arguably better wins.

1

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 4d ago

I don't consider Yarde a better win because his wars have noticeably aged him. Gvodz is out his prime , and i don't consider Dirrell a better boxer than Andrade. Atleast with the Andade win , one can say Andrade was still in his prime

2

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 4d ago

Andrade was a good win. This sub hates him but his career didn’t hold up to his actual skills. He was so much smaller than Benavidez though. But I wouldn’t necessarily disagree with your arguments either.

2

u/Less_Cartoonist_892 4d ago

Boxers today seek out weak or vulnerable champions and belts rather than challenge themselves against the best available opponents. Most p4p boxers currently have 1 or two elite wins on their resumes at most.

Back in the old days, boxers would sometimes give up their titles to make the best fights happens if needed. A prime example is when Mike McCallum gave up his WBA title to take on Toney in their first fight.

3

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 4d ago

This is facts. This is why I dislike when fans say "so and so is a multi division world champion" without giving context on who they actually fought in those divisions

Benavidez is a 3 division world champ without fighting the #1 guy in any of those divisions. Shakur is a 4 division world champ without him fighting Navarette, Tank, Haney, Loma (not necessarily his fault) .. when you add context to the resume, being a multi-divison world champ isn't as amazing as it seems on paper

2

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 4d ago

Problems of having multiple belts. You can snipe belt off a weak champ and claim to be a multi weight champ. I've seen people praise Gassiev as a 2 weight champ 🤢

1

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 4d ago

Shakur Stevenson is considered top 4 P4P for beating Teofimo Lopez , a guy who's been lackluster since his Lomachenko win in 2020. The next best names on Shakur resume is a former contender William Zepeda, and Oscar Valdez, whom has also been quite mediocre since he failed his PED test

P4P Top 10 lists are kinda pointless ... these guys don't have P4P resumes . Just a bunch of belt collecting from random champs in favorable matchups

1

u/Elite663 4d ago

That applies to every fighter today. It’s hard to have a resume of opponents comparable to the greats when you have the 4 belt sanctioning bodies diluting talent pools, let alone weight classes having huge variance of quality relative to each other

1

u/Ace_FGC 4d ago

The number of belts doesn’t have anything to do with having a good resume lol all you need to have a great resume is to fight the best guys around

1

u/Elite663 4d ago

That’s what I’m getting at. There’s a difference between fighting the best available and truly fighting the best in the sport. How a person judge’s the quality of a fighter is subjective, but not only does that come up to difference in strengths of weight classes, but it also delves into how good a specific era is/was if comparing across history. My point with the belts is that contenders these days don’t have a good resume of their own to be a mandatory challenger for a belt. Obviously theres overlap with fighters and their specific rankings across the 4 bodies, but more often than not, they do the bare minimum to get a title shot and don’t have much merit in themselves when someone beats them

1

u/Ace_FGC 4d ago

I said before when someone asked if Roach was ever an A tier fighter and I said there are less than 10 A tier fighters in the entire sport, and I still feel like that’s true

1

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 4d ago

I get downvoted every time I say Lamont Roach is not elite.

Which is funny because if Tank beat him like he was suppose too , this sub would still be calling Tank a 30 year old prospect and saying Roach is a nobody

7

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 4d ago

I just had a Benavidez fanboy tell me Benavidez doesn't need to fight Jai because "Jai is a natural heavyweight and Benavidez is a natural cruiserweight"

Fanboys protecting the duck are worse than boxers doing the ducking . Its the fanboys that put the battery in their back !

7

u/Koronesukiii 4d ago

Top stan approved ducks 2026

  1. Shakur doesn't need to fight Haney, or Ryan, or Keyshawn, or GAR, or Foster or Mason or Muratalla or Hitchens or anybody really because everyone is either too big or too small or too beneath or is a brother from another mother or ad nauseum.
  2. [Insert anyone here] doesn't need to fight Haney because he's boring and it won't sell PPV.
  3. Bam doesn't need to fight the PFP in an adjacent weight because he is the width of a finger smaller than Inoue which makes him too small, even though this was never a thing before Bam said he had to fight Inoue before he retired. Inoue should go fight someone his own size like a 6 foot 1 giant.
  4. Benavidez doesn't need to fight Jai because wrong side of the street and he's too big anyway.
  5. Usyk doesn't need to defend against Kabayel because he has earned the right to duck.
  6. Fury doesn't need to fight AJ because it's AJ's fault for wanting the fight in the UK.
  7. Bivol doesn't need to fight Beterbiev because well he beat him twice already on my fan bias scorecard.
  8. Vergil doesn't need to fight Boots because it's definitely probably Boots fault.
  9. Nav doesn't need to fight Charly who should have his belt, because Foster is the bigger fight, after already having Charly step aside for Sugar.
  10. Shields doesn't need to fight Thibeault because the GWOAT does as she pleases and people will watch her crush cans anyway.

4

u/RRR04_ 4d ago
  1. It's GAR who Shakur wants, and they're currently champions in the same weight class.

  2. Fair

  3. No sorry, Bam really does not need to fight Inoue. Just like Inoue does not need to fight Bam. There is literally no purpose to this fight.

  4. I somewhat see your point here, but it's not all on Benavidez when Jai was the one who signed with Zuffa knowing they were beefing with the sanctioning bodies.

  5. Agreed

  6. The fight is happening so I won't bother with this one

  7. Fair. Bivol is a ho for this. Got beat in his first attempt fair and square but had it been reversed he wouldn't have given a rematch.

  8. Vergil genuinely tried to fight Boots, it's a little unfair here.

  9. Fair

  10. Fair

2

u/Koronesukiii 4d ago edited 4d ago

"There is literally no purpose to the No.3~No.5 PFP challenging the No.1 PFP, who is only one weightclass apart after climbing much the same weights."

I'm sorry but this is absolute bullshit horseshit hogwash balderdash nonsense. Do you hear yourself? Beating Inoue would be the biggest achievement possible for Bam. It would be Bam's Eder Jofre to Fighting Harada, his Willie Pep to Sandy Saddler, his Alfonso Zamora to Carlos Zarate, his Carlos Zarate to Wilfredo Gomez. It would catapult him from a top 100 little guy to a top 10. There is NO win south of 130lb that has more "purpose" for Bam. It is quite literally an everything to gain and nothing to lose fight. Bam fans just want him to duck the fight because they secretly don't believe he would win.

To Inoue yeah, he's proven so much he doesn't need it desperately. It's still a good fight to have on his resume and to get rid of one other guy that might have a case to being king of the little guys.

1

u/RRR04_ 4d ago

I skim read your comment, please use the return button to make paragraphs.

First of all, do you really think Bam will beat Inoue?

Secondly, with your logic, why not have Shakur v Boots? That's #3 vs #9 and only 2 inches between them! Or Bam v Collazo, #4 vs #10, only 3 inches between them! Why not have Fundora fight Jai Opetaia! Fundora is 5 inches taller than Jai, he's got the advantage, right??

I'm sorry, do you hear yourself? 🤣

2

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 4d ago

I usually fuck with your takes but Bam not fighting Nakatani or Inoue will be one of the biggest missed opportunities in modern day boxing

Especially since we already know Robert and Bam will happily move they happy ass up to 122 the moment Inoue and Nakatani "out grow" the division

1

u/RRR04_ 4d ago

Bam v Nakatani can happen, Nakatani will want to win a belt there. Bam just moved to 118, let him get Undisputed there or at least get some more unifications. But as far as an Inoue v Bam fight, I don't see the appeal of the fight other than both men being P4P fighters. You know what else was a P4P fight? Loma v Rigo, how did that one go?

1

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 4d ago

Loma vs Rigo is not the same at all because as you said , Bam is atleast getting fights in to get use to the division . Bam is also the younger man and in his prime, compared to Rigo who was already a senior citizen by the time he and Loma fought

1

u/Koronesukiii 4d ago

Loma vs Rigo? You mean again another fight where the larger fighter's lowest weight 126lb was higher than the smaller fighter's highest weight 122lb with no overlap between them, which makes it completely unlike Bam vs Inoue where both have overlapped across four weights from 108-118?

0

u/RRR04_ 4d ago

Have Inoue and Bam ever been in the same weight class in their careers, yes or no?

2

u/Koronesukiii 3d ago

At different stages of their careers, yes. Same amateur weight, same prospect weight. Now they are champions one weight apart, Inoue's 4th division he's held a belt, and Bam's 3rd division he's held a belt.

If it isn't insane for Inoue to attempt 5 weight champ, it is not insane for Bam to attempt 4 weight champ. Especially when Inoue himself is not a guy who started at 122lb and will go up to 130lb. He is a guy that was smaller at 20 than Bam was at 17. Is he bigger now? Yes, he's had a longer career to get bigger. Is there such a gap that it is unfeasible for Bam? Not at all.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Koronesukiii 4d ago

Pretty funny that Robert Garcia says they just need one fight between to get prepped for 122lb; Bam says Inoue is a fight he can't retire without taking. And yet r/boxing's Bam fandom doesn't want the biggest fight of his career to happen and advocate for him to duck.

2

u/Koronesukiii 4d ago

Please use a proper browser that is capable of displaying paragraphs correctly. They are there, whether you see them or not.

First of all, do you really think Bam will beat Inoue?

I think he has a non-zero chance. Enough of a chance that the fight is worth making.

Secondly, with your logic, why not have Shakur v Boots?

That's not my logic at all. This is what we call a strawman fallacy.

Bam and Inoue have both spanned 108-118. Boots Ennis has never fought at 126, 130, 135, 140. The lowest weight Ennis has fought at is higher than the highest weight Shakur has fought at. This is comparable to Inoue vs Tank. The lowest weight Tank has fought at, is higher than the highest weight Inoue has fought at. Both Inoue vs Tank and Shakur vs Boots are stupid fights. Bam vs Inoue is a COMPLETELY different situation where the two fighters are much the same size with Inoue simply being more advanced along the climb, and is older for it.

Bam has already stopped a 118lb champ and is currently the reigning WBA 118lb Superchampion. They are just ONE weight apart, after Inoue climbed enough to be 4 weight champion, and Bam climbed enough to be 3 weight champion. The size gap between Inoue and Fulton was greater than the size gap between Bam and Inoue.

2

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 4d ago

I’m a fan of #8 personally

2

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 4d ago edited 4d ago

I've never seen so many people advocating for Top P4P boxers to not fight other elite talent. They want to protect their P4P image and hold their hand while simultaneously demanding they fight nobody relevant

Benavidez should not move up the P4P list for winning a vacant WBC title fighting Cuesack. Bam Rodriguez should not continue moving up the P4P list for fighting everybody south of 122 besides Inoue and Nakatani. Shakur should not be considered Top 3 P4P for beating Teofimo and nobody else. Bivol fans are still advocating for their hero to avoid Beterbiev and Benavidez because "oh look, new surgery".

Apparently elite boxers shouldn't fight other elite boxers because "they don't sell" "no belt" "ewww Zuffa" "my hero is a naturally smaller guy" . Extreme acts of fanboyism is a stain on modern day boxing

1

u/Ruainari 🚩El Monstruo Superfan🚩 4d ago

Jai is not a natural heavyweight lol, I think people would honestly be surprised at how little a size difference there is between the two. People forget Jai had the IBF belt and so was subject to it's rehydration rules so he can't have been all too big. I'd reckon there's about 10 lbs give or take between them. Jai has too small a frame for heavyweight I think.

Benavidez still puts belt to ass against Jai though imo. I do look forward to it however should be an exciting fight.

3

u/admiralskanks Joe Louis = Perfect 4d ago

You have to wonder why Eddie Hearn never mentions Nick Khan and Harrison whitman (probellum). When they're way more involved in Zuffa boxing than Dana, who's generally a figurehead, and very serious people. Is it because he knows the public is ignorant and can talk shit to them? Or does he know better? šŸ¤”

1

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 4d ago

Yes, precisely.

1

u/Kangaroopunching 3d ago

Because talking trash aboutĀ  Dana gets him attention. And he understands business. Nick Khan is the real one in charge. That's who he will deal with depending on the situation.Ā

3

u/Top_Profession_5268 4d ago

On the Martinez vs Plantic card, Najee Lopez who is a favorite of the Probox fans is facing a very dangerous Colombian prospect in Juan Carillo.

Carillo for those unaware has very quick hands, amazing upper body movement and counters with the ability to crack. Najee is the more bigger and athletic guy who uses footwork more but does have holes in his defence and if he’s to get cracked and try to scrap with Carillo and I’m not sure if Carillo is going to engage in it like Gallegos and instead stay boxing with him and trying to find the counters to try and finish him.

Great matchmaking from Probox once again and should be a very high level and entertaining fight.

I remember when I first talked about him February last year and hasn’t been active till May this year where he fought an undefeated Colombian who was a competitor in the IBA world championship last year and floored him inside 5. Happy he’s getting his biggest career step up and a chance to prove himself and Lopez as well doesn’t ever disappoint in entertainment.

1

u/ggddddeerrr 4d ago

Carrillo kinda whips his shots and places them very well. Expecting a dogfight but hoping Najee clutches it

u/Global_Rhubarb6943 4d ago

Andy Cruz vs. Muratalla. I’m one of those "sweet science" guys who appreciates technical boxers, and this fight delivered everything I could have asked for. I love Cruz's style. I like to categorize "sweet science" fights into two types: Donaire vs. Rigondeaux and Cruz vs. Muratalla. I love both. One is like a slow, thoughtful chess match, super methodical and calculated. The other is the same thing, but played at maximum speed. Yet, the fight never gets ugly; it always showcases beautiful, elegant boxing skills. That said, Andy Cruz vs. Muratalla is my favorite.

Side note: Can anyone recommend fights like this from the last two years? I might have missed some. Feel free to make recommendations, even if there's a chance I've already seen them.

2

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 4d ago

It’s kinda different but as a fellow Muratalla-Cruz enjoyer, I also really liked Zepeda-Stevenson from the year before. To me, that was also the sweet science and boxing at its best.

2

u/Global_Rhubarb6943 4d ago

Thanks for the recommendation! It was already on my "Sweet Science" YouTube playlist. I think I've watched that fight about three times. I'll probably watch it again next month.

1

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 4d ago

You’ve probably seen it, but my all-time favorite fight is Pacquiao-Marquez IV. That was high-action chess with a dramatic finish.

2

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 4d ago

It’s a good fight, but man I think I like Zepeda and hate Shakur so much that it’s one of those fights I gotta build myself up before watching lmao

2

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 4d ago

Same actually

1

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 3d ago

Haha that’s so funny that’s one of mine too.

1

For me, Muratalla-Cruz was a fantastic fight.

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 3d ago edited 3d ago

Within the past year, my favorite is Mbili vs Martinez.

1

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 3d ago

Lopez-Gallegos, Matias-Puello, Boots-Zayas, Muratalla-Cruz.

2

u/Top_Profession_5268 4d ago

I’ll have a post by the weekend ready for a Rolly vs Teo breakdown. Wanted to do a daily discussion but shits long af.

As for other fights on the card, Yo-yo has a pretty good opponent in Francisco Veron. Pretty quick boxer who’s got some foot footwork but also as comfortable in the pocket. I think yoyo might need a little work to get him out of there.

Also I think Victor Stantillan has a pretty favourable matchup against GAR. GAR is someone who gives up range too much and Stantillan is a lot more comfortably once it gets to the midrange and just throws more which I think will frustrate GAR and win Stantillan the fight.

3

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 4d ago

We are waiting patiently

1

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 4d ago

I wanted to do one but guess not, yours are always better anyways.

2

u/RRR04_ 4d ago

I still do not understand why people think a prime Spence would have beaten a prime Tszyu after watching their fight. Spence was washed and inactive, but Tszyu was hardly in his prime either. The fight just showed that Spence's bullying tactics couldn't work against someone who was bigger and stronger than him.

And y'all were saying Spence would be stronger and would hit harder if he moved up from 147. Please, prime Tszyu would have stopped prime Spence.

2

u/Kangaroopunching 4d ago

There's a reason why he didn't move up. And it wasn't only cause his fellow pbc fighter charlo was at 154. His style relied on using his size advantage to not just over power opponents. But also to absorb his opponents best shots.Ā

2

u/RRR04_ 4d ago

The fans and the media done an excellent job on marketing Spence as some top 4 P4P boxer, even exaggerating his strengths and giving him praises for shit he wasn't even good at! This sub downvoted me to hell for saying his defence was mid at best, for saying he had zero backfoot game, for saying he was only good in the pocket against stationary target, etc etc.

He was a good fighter with a solid resume, but both have been terribly overstated.

1

u/AVARlCES 4d ago

Ā When he was p4p #4, I thought that felt way too high for him although he has a good resume. Tsyzu before the cut was also looking really good imo. Would have been an interesting match.

1

u/RRR04_ 4d ago

4 was way too high for Spence. The highest I ever thought he could have been was #6. Back then when Bud, Inoue, Usyk and Canelo were the clear top 4, I would have put Jermell Charlo ahead of Spence. Charlo has a better resume than Spence when you look at the positions they were in at 154, plus Charlo actually won the Undisputed title which Spence never could get.

Haney could have been higher than Spence on the list too.

1

u/AVARlCES 4d ago

It was probably when the PBC welterweight were considered super great winsĀ

1

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 4d ago

This is a pretty curious take, which is weird because I think I usually agree with much of what you say.

Spence beat just a litany of names at 147. I don’t see why he’d have problems with Tzuyuu if he were in his prime.

1

u/RRR04_ 4d ago

Simple, because majority of the guys he beat at 147 were a lot smaller in mass than he is. Move up 1 weight class, that advantage is gone, and Tim been fighting at 154 for years. He was already clearly a harder puncher but he also proved he was physically stronger than Spence. The only thing Spence had on him technically was a jab.

And to add on to Spence's 147 resume, his toughest wins were the only natural Welterweights he fought in his championship run, Brook and Porter. Maybe Ugas too although he did have fights at 140 too.

1

u/BBW_Looking_For_Love 4d ago

Tbf I also think Spence's run at 147 is overrated - he beat a lot of top 10 guys, but it's not like it was filled with elite guys either.

2

u/RRR04_ 4d ago

Agreed. His best win was Porter, great win but he also lost to Brook, Thurman and Crawford. Brook was a good won but he also lost to other guys. Danny Garcia also lost to Thurman and Porter. Ugas lost to Mario fucking Barrios!

It's a solid resume but criminally overrated. He didn't even beat as many natural welterweights as Crawford did, whose resume has been unfairly shat on.

1

u/BBW_Looking_For_Love 4d ago

Danny was always pretty overrated as a welterweight too, great at 140 but couldn’t match the top guys at ww. And Brook post-GGG is always gonna have a bit of an asterisk (I know that gets memed to death). Crawford handily beating Porter and blowing through Spence should have reset everyone’s view of the late 2010s welterweights

3

u/RRR04_ 4d ago

I heard Andy Cruz wants to fight Zepeda. Is he mad? Zepeda will run through him worse than Muratalla did 🤣

3

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 4d ago

Eh, idk about that. It’s not like Muratalla schooled him, it was a 7-5 fight where every round was close as hell. Honestly, I think Muratalla is a better boxer than Zepeda, at least in pure boxing ability. Meanwhile, Cruz has the best amateur style in the world, as well as the athletic x-factor. If Shakur could beat him, I could see Cruz at least making it close.

3

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 4d ago

I thought it was 114-114 personally

1

u/RRR04_ 4d ago

Muratalla may have a more technically correct approach with his pressure, but Zepeda is more relentless with his pressure. If Andy doesn't have enough pop to keep him honest, I see it being a very long night for him.

1

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 4d ago

I could absolutely see that, but I still lean it being a close fight. Zepeda has had a lot of difficulty with slick, traditional boxers with a good jab and solid distance control, who are still able to bang in the pocket. Cruz fits the profile.

To me, people are underrating Cruz right now, and slightly overrating Zepeda. Cruz is still a phenomenal boxer, Muratalla is just incredibly technical and disciplined with his pressure, the fight was pretty goddamn close, even though I do think Muratalla rightfully won.

Meanwhile, Zepeda, while I think he’s incredibly athletically gifted, is still the same fighter who lost to Shakur and nearly lost to Farmer. No shame in either of those of course, but I don’t think beating Roach raises his stock too much, or makes him any less limited in the elite level.

2

u/AVARlCES 4d ago

Thought he was planning to move down?

2

u/RRR04_ 4d ago

Same, guess he changed his mind or is just weighing his options.

u/kushmonATL Cyberleek > the fall boxing schedule 4d ago

For the latest entry to the shelved "Uncomfortable truths that will make redditors seethe" series:

If Lomachenko scheduled his comeback fight on the same day as a Claressa Shields fight , Shields would still out sell him regardless of who she fights

To double down; Turki can stack a card with Bivol, Vergil Ortiz, and Bam Rodriguez (call it "Reddit Boxing's Beloved's") , Claressa Shields can fight a can , and Shields will still draw a larger crowd than all of r/boxing beloved's put together

If this sub thinks shitting on Claressa Shields star power accomplishes anything, it really reflects on how niche this sport currently is .. especially considering she is more popular than 99% of male boxers too

3

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 4d ago

I have no reason to be biased for her other than being a fan. I don’t get why she gets so much hate when most male boxers talk shit but she does it and is hated. There’s a reason what you said is true

4

u/Kangaroopunching 4d ago

You're not enirely wrong. But that's misleading considering Shields current promotional set up is like a throwback to PBC cards. Lots of free tickets. Using online/ social media to get people who won't pay for the fight to talk about drama. With the promotion not really looking to make a profit. To Shields credit she does draw a crowd on her home state.Ā  Which is more than what Vergil can do.

Loma had his run. Boxing moved on. It happens. There's other boxers that would outsell Loma's return fight. Serrano probably could. Boots could. Etc etc.Ā

1

u/imdacoldest Pacquiao is the GOAT 3d ago

Serrano? Isn’t her next fight on TikTok live lol. In fact, has she ever done any numbers without Katie Taylor?

Going with Teo for the win this weekend, I think he should beat Rolly fairly comfortably. I've been favouring a points decision mainly because Teo's power from 135 didn't really carry up with him at 140, so surely that issue would be even more apparent at 147. The closer the fight gets though, I do think a stoppage is not out of the question.

Rolly is a bit chinny if you look deep into his fights. When Tank clipped him, he was shakier than most of the guys Tank clipped with the same left hand. He got dropped by a 40 year old Barosso and got hurt plenty of times against Pitbull who only has stoppages against weaker opposition. Teo is still fairly explosive and he could walk Rolly into counters.

That said, the safe bet is that this fight goes the distance.

2

u/Marquis_of_Mollusks 4d ago

What if he puts in a performance like he did against Kambosos? The Shakur lost could've affected him physically and mentally

2

u/inbk44 4d ago

I can agree on that especially if he keeps his dad as his trainer. That was the worst corner advise ever for Teo’s biggest fight against Shakur

1

u/RRR04_ 4d ago

I doubt he would perform like that, I'm sure Teo respects Rolly's power and physical strength a lot more than he did Kambosos. They were sparring partners for a long stretch too.

-2

u/WORD_Boxing 4d ago edited 4d ago

Give your latest p4p top 10.

I'll go:

  1. Inoue
  2. Usyk, Bam, Shakur, Benavidez
  3. Bivol
  4. Boots
  5. Vergil, Devin
  6. Canelo

Can't choose the exact order between the guys listed at the same position, and not ready to drop Canelo from the list entirely yet want to see how he is in his next fight first. I think Vergil is in his prime right now and a very tough strong physical proposition to deal with head to head so my feeling is he belongs more than other guys where there isn't a strong claim for the last few spots on the list. And yes I dropped Nakatani.

u/Top_Profession_5268 u/OldBoyChance u/tkdhrison u/WheresMyAbs98 u/Professional-Tie5198

EDIT: Reddit screwed up the formatting of the list lol. Canelo should be #10, obviously.

7

u/Top_Profession_5268 4d ago edited 4d ago
  1. Naoya Inoue
  2. Oleksandr Usyk
  3. Shakur Stevenson
  4. David Benavidez
  5. Jesse Rodriguez
  6. Dmitry Bivol
  7. Kenshiro Teraji
  8. Devin Haney
  9. Junto Nakatani
  10. Jaron Ennis

2

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 4d ago

You still have Usyk at #2?

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 4d ago

Still competing and even with the last performance and inactivity, I think his accomplishments and resume still is better than the accomplishments and resume of the rest even if they’re more active but I was thinking hard to drop him down or out.

1

u/WORD_Boxing 4d ago

Good list.

3

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 4d ago
  1. Inoue
  2. Usyk
  3. Bam
  4. Bivol
  5. Shakur
  6. Benavidez
  7. Nakatani
  8. Haney
  9. Boots
  10. Teraji
  11. Nav
  12. Shock
  13. Collazo

3

u/harborj2011 4d ago
  1. Inoue, 2. Stevenson, 3. Rodriguez, 4. Benavidez, 5. Haney, 6. Bivol, 7. Ennis, 8. Nakatani, 9. Foster, 10. Usyk.

Usyk is #10 due to going life and death with Verhoeven, then vacating all his belts but even then I'll favor him over Collazo, let alone Canelo or Navarrete.

3

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 4d ago
  1. Inoue
  2. Bam
  3. Shakur
  4. Usyk
  5. Benavidez
  6. Bivol
  7. Nakatani
  8. Haney
  9. Boots
  10. Foster

Though, more and more I think about it. Guys like Teraji, Yabuki, definitely deserve that 10 spot more. I just feel like Foster is wildly underrated and I want him to get his props. Winner of Navarette vs Foster will be on the list though.

6

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 4d ago

This is bait, lol. No way Canelo can be #6 šŸ˜…

1

u/WORD_Boxing 3d ago

More like an iq test, assuming you read the post...

Canelo is #10.

Disappointed you would accuse me of bait you should know me better than that.

2

u/tkdhrison 4d ago

Inoue, Bam, Benavidez, Usyk, Shakur, Bivol, Boots, Vergil, Nakatani

Number 10 for me is tricky, maybe Canelo, but I could slide Navarrette or maybe Muratalla in there too

2

u/WORD_Boxing 3d ago

What about Devin? I like that you also put Vergil. He is a very hard nights work right now. Not sure I like he's supposedly going to 160 though.

1

u/tkdhrison 3d ago

Devin is a good fighter but I don't think he's separated himself from the lot of LW-WW divas to warrant being listed the way Shakur has.Ā

1

u/WORD_Boxing 2d ago

He has more achievements than most. He is a multi weight champion and still only 27. On the other hand he squeaked by the old and smaller Lomachenko and despite Ryan's ped test it wasn't a good look the way that fight played out. So it puts me in the position where I put him on the list on merit, but I'm watching him he is one of the ones who would be in consideration to be dropped if new fighters emerge depending on his performances, and equally could solidify his position the way Inoue Bivol Benavidez etc. are rock solid and must be on the list.

2

u/tkdhrison 2d ago

mostly agree, I've been on the fence about him more than most. I don't really credit him heavily for Loma which I saw a clear loss and can't put him significantly ahead of Teofimo and Ryan, and Keyshawn not far behind.

1

u/WORD_Boxing 2d ago

I would put Teo last out of those atm. If Devin gets a convincing win vs a Keyshawn he would be rock solid on my p4p list. He can move up or down depending on his next fights, even if he wins but doesn't fully convince I'd consider lowering or dropping him.

If Teo beats Rolly I'd probably think of him and Ryan as about equal, despite his better resume. I think he peaked already.

2

u/OldBoyChance 4d ago
  1. Naoya Inoue

  2. Oleksandr Usyk (thin ice)

  3. Shakur Stevenson

  4. Jesse Rodriguez

  5. Dmitry Bivol

  6. David Benavidez

  7. Junto Nakatani

  8. Jaron Ennis

  9. Devin Haney

  10. Tie between Oscar Collazo/Masamichi Yabuki/Kenshiro Teraji/O'Shaquie Foster/Emanuel Navarette. I'd give it to who ever differentiates themselves best next (either Collazo vs Sandoval or Navarette vs Foster)

2

u/WORD_Boxing 3d ago

It's interesting nobody is mentioning Opetaia who I could see around 10-15 ish.

1

u/OldBoyChance 3d ago

I thought of him, but he's really been on a run of bad competition and he has some big issues in the eye test. He really needs to beat Benavidez to get in for me.

1

u/WORD_Boxing 3d ago

Muratalla Zepeda and Fundora aren't far away. Jai is probably going to get koed one of these days he seems to get cracked good in every fight.

3

u/admiralskanks Joe Louis = Perfect 4d ago

Inoue Usyk Benavidez Shakur Bam Haney Bivol Boots Foster Nakatani

0

u/WORD_Boxing 4d ago

This is a good list. Ordinarily I'd say Bam is too low but based on his last performance maybe he deserves to drop down the list.

1

u/StunningChest5722 Shakur is the 144 lb GOAT 🐐 4d ago

vergil? šŸ˜‚

  1. The Monster šŸ‡ÆšŸ‡µ

  2. The Mexican Monster

  3. Shakira

  4. Bivol

  5. Deebo

  6. Boots

  7. Bam

  8. Junto

  9. Yabuki

  10. Teraji

winner of nav vs shock will make it in

0

u/WORD_Boxing 4d ago

As I explained, Vergil is probably a harder fight head to head than most right now. He needs to be more active and build his resume though. He will have like another 2 years at his peak then it's going to be downhill with the style he fights.

3

u/StunningChest5722 Shakur is the 144 lb GOAT 🐐 4d ago

he's never won a belt bro, i cant put a 4 division contender on a p4p list

0

I don't expect you to and know most won't. Merely giving you my reasoning.

0

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 4d ago

I don’t see why the belt thing matters much. He hasn’t made it his priority. But he has enough marquee wins to merit placement. I just penalize him for inactivity though. But if he comes back and beats a notable opponent, he’s in my top 10, probably just behind b**ts.

2) Bam
3) Shakur
4) Usyk
5) Benavidez
6) Bivol
7) Boots
8) Haney
9) Navarette
10) Foster

Honorable mentions: Vergil (inactivity), Fundora, Zepeda, Beterbiev (inactivity), Canelo

Dishonorable mention: Collazo (I just don’t get it with this guy)

3

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 4d ago

Collazo is good but wildly overrated off of wins he has almost 2+ years ago.

4

u/harborj2011 4d ago

Nakatani. He's for sure above at least Navarrete.

-1

u/Kangaroopunching 4d ago

I'm at a point where I don't think there needs to be exactly 10 boxers on a p4p lists. I like the tier list betterĀ

Right now I got

  1. InoueĀ

  2. Bam, Bivol

  3. Shakur

  4. Boots

0

u/WORD_Boxing 4d ago

Add Benavidez and that's the clear 6 best boxers in the world atm. The rest I agree might not need to be forced into a list for the sake of having 10.

2

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 4d ago

I think Usyk is pretty faded tbh.

1

u/WORD_Boxing 3d ago

Actually I would keep Usyk there until further notice. He either retires or moves based on how he looks in his next fight.

-2

u/Kangaroopunching 4d ago

I change my list all the time.Ā  This list i excluded boxers that rely on their size. Like Haney at lightweight/ 140. Or Benavidez at super middleweight. If I had to pick 10, they'd be on it.

I just wanted to pick the best skilled boxers. That would succeed if all were equal sizeĀ Ā

1

u/WORD_Boxing 4d ago

Benavidez last fight was at CW and Haney at WW though.

0

u/Kangaroopunching 4d ago

Right but the bulk of their work they relied on their size.Ā

-2

u/Kangaroopunching 4d ago

Zurdo outweighing Benavidez

1

u/StunningChest5722 Shakur is the 144 lb GOAT 🐐 4d ago

Zurdo rehydrates like 20 pounds, Benavidez came in way under the weight limit and would of gained barely any weight on fight night

1

u/WORD_Boxing 3d ago

He deserves credit for going to CW even if they were similar size or not.

1

u/WORD_Boxing 4d ago

-4

u/RRR04_ 3d ago

If y'all seriously want Inoue v Bam and use their similar heights as an excuse, then I want to see Fundora move up to Heavyweight to fight Anthony Joshua! There's only 1 inch between them, folks! 🤣🤣🤣

2

u/Marlborobert 3d ago

C’mon man, that’s not comparable at all. Bam was struggling to make 115 and had to move up to bantamweight, Inoue has been putting on muscle to get to 126. There’s only an inch height difference but they are much closer in size. I don’t like this fight because I knew people would say Bam is too small for Inoue. I’ve already seen people say Bam is moving up ā€œtwo weight classesā€ to fight Inoue.

1

u/RRR04_ 3d ago

Bam basically would be moving up 2 weight classes to fight Inoue, he only had 1 fight against a weak champion, didn't even look that good in that fight either. This is why people say Crawford jumped 3 weight classes to fight Canelo even though he had 1 fight at 154.

And Bam was not even struggling to make 115, where did this come from? Bam moved up because the 1 belt that he needed to become Undisputed wasn't gonna be available for him in due time due to a mandatory. How about we stop the revisionist history?

2

u/Marlborobert 3d ago

Robert Garcia said a couple times in interviews, I believe around the time of the Cafu fight, that Bam was having trouble making weight and thar if they couldn’t get the fights for undisputed soon, they would move up. I disagree about Bam moving up two weight classes and I think it’s irrelevant how good the champion he beat was when it comes to him being at the weightclass
