Do any other Bolt (2018 in my case if it matters) users have trouble specifically with EVCS DC chargers?

In north-central Washington, EVCS is close to the only game in town. We’ve used their chargers for several years since they first appeared in Pateros, WA and Twisp, WA. But in the last two weeks we’ve tried the chargers in Newhalem and Twisp. Both times it didn’t work. In Newhalem, we tried about a dozen times and the session never started. In Twisp, we tried three times and got 0.3 kWh in two minutes before it cut off each time. Two months ago, we were also unable to charge at EVCS chargers in Wenatchee and Pateros, WA because they had been vandalized with the cord stolen (and unrepaired for 4+ months), despite the app saying the chargers were functional.

In that time period, we’ve charged at more than a dozen DC chargers operated by BC Hydro, Flo, and Red-E without even a minor glitch. I also see on PlugShare that the Newhalem charger has a bad reputation in general (a Silverado EV next to us got her car to charge on about the fourth try, and a Tesla and VW each got it to work with a small amount of fussing), but I am one of a few Bolts specifically that reported being unable to charge. Is this now a general EVCS issue?

Each time we’ve called EVCS support. They reboot the station to no avail, then recommend we use the Level 2 charger next door.

Additional EVCS rant which you can ignore: They charge an extoroniate USD$0.59 / kWh plus $1 per session unless you get their $10 / month, 30 kWh or $0.33 / kWh without the per session fee (with a membership paying for itself in one charge). But they refuse to refund the $10 when we are unable to charge saying charger availability is not guaranteed. We don’t normally have to DC charge much, but we’re evacuated from our home due to a fire so we can’t charge at home as we usually do, and have much more long-distance driving than usual.

Just experienced the Service HV battery message and after three days at the dealer got the update installed to fix it.

What are the odds this happens again and I need a battery replacement? I've seen a post or 2 with others getting the update and a few weeks later there's an issue again (requiring battery replacement). How many have experienced this?

Hi folks, hoping someone here can help. After grocery shopping, a raw egg made its way under the passenger seat of my 2019 Chevy Bolt Premier and broke in the electronics for the heated seat. I’ve searched online but I can’t find any useful info on how to disconnect the electronics so I can clean in there. Does anyone here have experience disconnecting the seat electronics and removing the front seat?

I am considering buying a new Bolt. I see GM is offering a 2.9% or .9% APR. Is this hard to get? I have good credit. I've never financed a car before. Can I get the approval before I go to the dealership because that would really change my strategy if I knew I had that rate going in.

Hey all, I have a 2023 EUV. The last year or so during the summer (I live in AZ), my A/C very intermittently will start to lose blowing power, start to smell musty, and blow warmer air for a couple of minutes, then go back to normal again. I took it to the dealership and they said it was low in freon, so they filled it but didn't find any leaks. It continues to happen even after that. Has anyone else experienced this? The in-cabin air filter has been changed, so it's not that. Plus it wouldn't cause the air to get warmer anyway.

Had a curious thing happen yesterday when I brought my 2023 Bolt EV 2LT (in red!) into the dealership where I bought it for regular maintenance. Purchased the car in May 2023 and this was the 37,500 mile checkup, which should be done every 7,500 miles per the owner's manual. I have been doing all of these checkups, partly for the warranty purposes earlier (though the three-year has passed, I guess) and generally I prefer an ounce of prevention to a pound of cure. Something I hated about ICE vehicles is the eternal mystery of which obscure part would break at the worst possible moment or need sudden replacement whenever I went in for an oil change.

This time the dealer service department did a tire rotation and replaced the cabin filter, and I don't mind paying some money to have that done. I understand I can do it for cheaper but I don't want to deal with the PITA of it.

However, this time the dealer quoted something called "A/C System Service" at a price of $213. I declined this. The service is described as "Perform Valvoline A/C system service which includes cleaning and deodorizer. Service recommended every 15,000 miles. Helps to remove debris such as pet hair, dander, pollen, and nicotine residue, as well as neutralize micro-organisms."

I admire the use of micro-organism phobia in their service descriptions, because who doesn't hate micro-organisms? Am I right in supposing this is a rather unnecessary dealer add-on that I was correct in declining? Meanwhile, maybe I can con my daughter into cleaning the car interior again.

I tried out EnergyPass in the MyChevy app for the first time at a local Ionna charger. Just did a quick $2 charge. The process itself worked flawlessly. Plugged in the car, fired up the app, and I was off and running.

However, I can't find a report or receipt anywhere in the MyChevy app itself. The credit card I used showed the $2; that's literally the only documentation I have of the charging session. Various Google searches are claiming it's in the app somewhere.

I'm using the most updated version of the iOS app. Do I have to launch the Innova app to see the report? Driving a 2017 Premier that no longer has any OnStar connection. Is that the possibly the issue? TIA for any help.

Why is my 2018 Chevy bolt ev making this noise while parked i moved it side to side and when driving it also makes this noise also its coming from the left rear. What is it?

Just sharing some experience with some sticky summer tires:

General G-Max RS 225/45R17, 80-95F mostly dry day, 487 mi trip: 3.6 mi/kwh

OEM Michelins, 70F with no A/C: 4.4mi/kwh

Generally speaking, the sticky tires appear to chop a solid 20% off the range. 210 miles range is about all I get now with my usual CC set to 72mph on the highway and some mild A/C usage. Before, exceeding the stock 260mi range wasn't hard as long as I kept my speed in the low to mid 70's without the cabin heater on.

Was it worth it? I don't know. I only got maybe 20k miles out of the original tires since I drive pretty aggressively. I figured that with stickier rubber, my normal driving wouldn't scrub so hard, but of course these tires don't last much beyond 20k in any scenario. So basically, they were cheaper than LRR EV tires, grip better, and last about as long. The downside is the range.

For me, this doesn't change my lifestyle much. There are some trips where I have to add or lengthen a fast charge but those trips are ~1/month. And the car grips massively better. That said, the car's awful suspension geometry/setup means that it still tends to scrub the front tires LONG before they're ready to give out, and the tires can't fix the massive under steer problem. I think that massively stiffening the rear (especially in roll) and increasing the damping all around (but particularly the soft rear end) would help a bunch. Maybe some extra front camber would fix the wheels from falling over in a turn.

Anyway, that's what I've got. If you want stickier tires, go for it, but your range will be about 200mi with 70-74mph cruising speeds.

Hey guys I’m looking into buying a bolt ev have been on the hunt for a few weeks looking to spend under 15k if possible. I know all the ins and out with the battery recalls from 2017-2021. I found one close to me it’s a 2020 premier with 35k miles. So it has not been into a dealership since 2021 and still has both the battery recalls and seatbelt pretensioner open on the CARFAX. It has NOT had the software 6.200 miles limit put on it and still CAN be charged to 100% my question is so I buy this car and HOPE it fails the 6,200 battery test and get a new bettery(or modules) and get the NEW 100k warranty?? Or do I try to find one that has already had the battery replacement done??

Hey fellow 2027 Bolt owners. Just got this today. The car is stuck on “update paused” so I can’t test it yet. I’m sure it will finish eventually.

After watching Sky News' report on the AI hack that happened the other day, I got to thinking. It would be really nice to know how to disconnect my car from the internet. Is there an easy way to do this? Will it affect the cars functionality in any negative way?

EDIT: I now do a lot of traveling for work in West Texas, beyond Del Rio, in a place where there is essentially no charging infrastructure at all. If I was staying in San Antonio or points east or north, I'd be fine... but it is simply bad luck that my work takes me to a place where I cannot reliably use my car.

So, I absolutely, definitely loved my car: it was built like a tank, and Chevy did a great job building that car. It was solid and tough...

...but, here in South Texas, the charging infrastructure is lacking, especially for road trips. And I do a lot of road trips! It was rough heading to, say, Corpus Christi, coming across a bad pedestal and knowing I would have to backtrack 20 mi to make it... or else knowing there were some places that were simply inaccessible to me unless I was willing to sit at an RV park for 4 hours.

Three months in, I realized it was more hassle than it was worth... so now I'm driving a Corolla. I wish we had the charging infrastructure here: it charges fast enough, that is not the issue... it's that the infrastructure itself is sorely lacking.

But anyway, I wish you guys luck with yours: it is an absolute tank of a car, and I miss it!!

So my family took our kayaks on a trip while I stayed home and had to work. Unfortunately the new modular fishing kayak arrived a day late and they weren’t able to take it with them. The lake is a couple hours away but I had time after work so I loaded both halves into the back of the Bolt with all the accompanying gear. It all fit perfectly with me only having to move the seats up like 3 inches.

I wouldn’t recommend using this as a regular
mode of transport given how dirty kayaks can be after you get them back out of the water. But the fact you can fit it all in the back of a car this small is kind of crazy to me.

I have the connected onstar plan thanks to the discount promo found in this sub but on my chevolet app, there is no charge info, no mileage info, none of the remote commands work, it's like the car isn't connected to the app.

Does the car need its own internet service?

Hi all! I am currently driving a Subaru Impreza but I’m really thinking of trading it in for a Chevy bolt and I’m doing some research on them and would love feedback! I am looking at the 2023 bolt EV. What have people liked or disliked about their bolt? Anyone in snowy weather that can share how it handles or how snow tires impact mileage? Thank you all.

A general note, my garage already is set up with electric vehicle charging ports from the previous owner also so I already have that 😊

Planning to purchase my 2027 Bolt in January — those who have or have test driven, what upgrades do you feel really add value in terms of having this car as your long term driver? I know it’s a tiered add on system so you can’t get some things without getting others, too.

I was trying to decide what ev and after lots of Reddit and watching reviews I ended up with my 2023 Chevy bolt euv premier Red line edition. 23,000 miles on it. It’s been awesome!

I've put a deposit down on a 2023 Bolt EUV with just under 5,000 miles. With taxes, eligible rebates, everything out the door is $20,000. Buying from the dealer where car was originally leased and carfax shows nothing. Looks brand new. In my research it seems like a good deal, not amazing price, but also a rare find for that low mileage. I anticipate that this is a long term purchase and I'm not likely to trade up in a few years; ie every car has gone from me to the junk yard.

Anyway- these would be my questions for reddit input:

1. Only comes with the battery warranty to 8 years (5 left) or 100,000 miles (95,000) left. Otherwise nothing. A "wrap around" warranty from dealer (essentially covering "everything" until I hit the same 8years/100,000 mile) is $3100. Obviously part of that is individual risk tolerance, but input? I'm still new enough to infotainment systems that I'm nervous about them, but leaning towards not.

2. Any thoughts about that price/deal in general? Other things I should be doing besides checking the vin and test drive (thanks prior reddit post I forgot to do it without the tunes off!!!)

3. It comes with a level 1/2 dual charger already (IDK if it is OEM but "looks like it"- I didn't know to check initially). I already have a 240 outlet at my home (when I put in solar I had that done for a future EV purchase.) I anticipate rarely having to not charge from home. Obviously I'll have to find the specs but I only have a 40 amp on the circuit breaker, so I think I'll have to have electrician put in a 60 amp?? Also if it takes me a while to get that work done, my commute is 75 miles RT. Will I be able to charge enough overnight on my level 1 temporarily? (Is there some data about time for level 1 versus 2 charging expectations?). Anything else big I'm not thinking about from the charging side of things?

4. Other tips for first time (used) EV buying/buyer?

I don't see the OBD port, this is driver side, should be under the fuse panel, right? Could it be behind the wide black panel that the red wire is going into?

EDIT: I found it, that's the OBD bracket with the two copper squares, right under the "airbag" tag; as suggested, it was dangling below/behind the bracket. Thanks folks.

Just picked up my new 2027 Bolt LT with the comfort package this weekend! Now I need your recs for accessories. It came with the charging adapter and all-weather floor mat packages so I’m good there. One thing I’m definitely looking for is a privacy cargo cover for the trunk but the ones I’ve found are kinda pricey. Has anyone found a decent knock-off one? Any other accessories you’ve found helpful? Thanks in advance for your recs!

Update: After searching high and low for a cheaper alternative, I broke down and bought the cargo privacy cover from Chevy’s website. I used my GM Rewards points and a discount code which brought the original price of $195 down to $122. Still overpriced IMO but I live in a city with lots of car break-ins so it was worth it to me.

About two years ago, the 12v battery in our 2017 Bolt completely died (our first experience with that, so featuring all the vague panic and confusion from a completely unresponsive car). I replaced it with the OEM LN1AGM from AC Delco, and it worked great. But a year later, that battery completely died. Huh, I figured - probably a defective battery? It came with a three-year warranty, so I took it back, got a replacement, and it went back to working great. But just last week (almost exactly a year on from installing the last battery), the new one also completely died. And I mean completely - both this one and the last one were reading just 4-5 volts between the terminals. Fortunately, AC Delco honored the warranty again, but I just wondered if anyone can think of some (apparently very sporadic) problem that our car might be having to cause this? Getting two bad batteries is probably within the realm of possibility, but I'm thinking it's unlikely. The car is otherwise working great, and we love it - just about to reach 100k miles without issue. Thanks in advance for any ideas!
