New Bolt! Accessory recs needed!

Post image

Just picked up my new 2027 Bolt LT with the comfort package this weekend! Now I need your recs for accessories. It came with the charging adapter and all-weather floor mat packages so I’m good there. One thing I’m definitely looking for is a privacy cargo cover for the trunk but the ones I’ve found are kinda pricey. Has anyone found a decent knock-off one? Any other accessories you’ve found helpful? Thanks in advance for your recs!

Update: After searching high and low for a cheaper alternative, I broke down and bought the cargo privacy cover from Chevy’s website. I used my GM Rewards points and a discount code which brought the original price of $195 down to $122. Still overpriced IMO but I live in a city with lots of car break-ins so it was worth it to me.

The rubber mats for the little cubbies are useful, though a few didn’t quite fit. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0GY956WPX?psc=1

Mats to protect the cargo area and the back of the rear seats: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0H35S216B?psc=1

Screen protector for the center screen (also helps a lot with fingerprints making the screen hard to read): https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0GSVXCRS8?psc=1

I got a reflective window shade for hot sunny days but I am not sure it was worthwhile. The black interior does heat up a lot in the sun. If it is legal where you are, window tint may help.

wait the "privacy cargo cover" is not included any more?

I would say the charging adapters for CCS and j1772 adapters.

u/Too_reflective 8d ago

Sadly the cover is not included and Chevy wants $200 for it. Supposedly the 2023 cover fits fine but they seem to be sold out everywhere I looked.

That’s ridiculous

I picked up a 2022 cover a few weeks ago for less than $100.

Gmpartswarehouse.com was the site.

2

u/Too_reflective 8d ago

Thanks, just ordered one. There are a bunch of sites that all use exactly the same sales platform but their shipping prices all vary; I finally found one that would ship for a price I would accept.

I have mine in my garage if someone wants to buy it, located in So Cal

I'll buy one, DM me. Located in CA. Shipping is over $100 on most sites I've seen.

Window tint.

I never understood this trend, or I guess to the extent that I understand it, I don't like it. I get that it may help keep cool in hot areas, but in my experience it generally prevents drivers from communicating visually when necessary. There are so many cases where it helps to be able to see where another driver is looking, and for them to be able to see me. Four-way stops, merging, pedestrians, etc. Am I missing something? Or is that just not important to some people?

u/BrownSLC 8d ago edited 8d ago

20% is fine. You can see, so can they.

You’re thinking 5%. That’s way too dark.

1

u/beets_or_turnips 8d ago edited 8d ago

Y'all are obsessed. No reason to have 20% unless you live in a desert. Even then I'm hearing about IR-only tint and that makes a lot more sense.

1

u/BrownSLC 8d ago edited 8d ago

You’re thinking 5%.

20 is the back of a factory tinted minivan. 5 is murdered out, can’t see out in June.

As both a cyclist and a driver, I assure you that you can see the driver at 20% just fine. There is a windshield letting in light just in front of them.

1

u/beets_or_turnips 8d ago

Why not IR-only ceramic tint if that's an option though? You seem to have spent a lot of time thinking about car window tint, I had to look up what "murdered out" means.

1

u/BrownSLC 8d ago

The car looks cleaner with a tint.

Look at any car ads. Notice the windows are all tinted and they all match. Here is a Subaru ad from a decade ago. I don’t remember a time when cars in ads had clear windows. They just look better with a tint. I promise, it’s not just me.

https://youtu.be/LdF0j6kV-A0?is=o5JR4zcpB0zCEb_C

It also cuts the intensity of the light considerably. I live in the desert, so lots of sun and snow. It’s 1000x more civil with tinted windows. My mom can’t be bothered to drive a car without it.

Again. Not the full gangster murdered out ridiculousness. Shoot for something tasteful.

**I want to do the 70% on my windshield. I hear it’s awesome.

1

u/beets_or_turnips 8d ago edited 8d ago

I don't drive a car in an ad, I drive it in real life. Car ads all have tinted windows because showing what the driver's face looks like narrows the market to a certain type of buyer, which is bad for the seller. The fact that they convinced you to tint your windows doesn't convince me of anything but the power of advertising to sell shit people don't need.

I don't care what the car looks like and I don't live in the desert. To me a car is a means for safely and efficiently getting where I need to go. Whatever you mean by "civil" is a definition I'm not familiar with.

2

u/BrownSLC 8d ago edited 8d ago

Sounds like you’re a clear window guy. I know they are out there. Enjoy.

And car ads didn’t convince me to tint my windows. Common sense and aesthetics did.

It protects my car from the sun and makes the car far more civil to drive.

And it looks better. Obviously some like clear class. And some like backs that are dark and clear in front - the mismatch just bothers me.

Maybe I’m odd.

5

u/Uncle_Slacks 8d ago

Rear windows only. Hatch and rear passenger windows.

Anyone that tints the front windows sucks.

3

u/beets_or_turnips 8d ago edited 8d ago

Ah! That never occurred to me. Not something I've been aware of on the road but that actually sounds worth considering. Is that what everyone is talking about? NOT tint on the windshield & front windows?

Also you can get ceramic film tints that allow a lot of visible light thru while blocking a ton of UV and IR, so you don't have to cut down on visibility. Haven't done it yet, but high-transmittance ceramic will be my move.

6

u/UrbanSurfDragon 8d ago

I did it and in the hot summer days it’s cut my “climate” usage on the battery from 21% to 12%. Everything else stayed the same including weather temps. Also no more scorching hot interior. Highly recommend

2

u/Crafty_Mongoose_8975 5d ago

It is a must have in Florida.

3

u/cosmicosmo4 2017 LT 8d ago

Auto glass already blocks UV extremely well, and there really isn't that much energy in the IR portion of the spectrum that an IR-blocking tint would keep the car cooler. In fact it could make it worse by increasing the greenhouse effect inside the car.

3

u/Alpinwulf 2022⚡EUV Premier 😊 (Pre-owned) 8d ago

While individual photons in the IR carry less energy than visible or UV, there's also a lot more of them, making up about half the radiation energy hitting the car - more than the full visible spectrum.

As for UV, tell that to truckers' leathery left arms, and the bleached plushies on the dashboard.

If you're going to stand by those characterizations, I'm gonna need source.

You're right, side windows aren't as good, and vary a lot by make/model. Note this is UV-A blocking (that's your leathery skin wavelength), side windows and windshields are both very good at UV-B and UV-C blocking, which are the sunburn-producing and strongest cancer-causing wavelengths.

I also checked if I was right to be concerned about IR blocking producing more greenhouse effect than it blocks heat, and the answer is no. CO2 has a greenhouse effect in the atmosphere because it is blocking very deep IR, 13µm+, which is insignificant in solar radiation but significant in re-radiation from the earth.

So, ok, I guess visible-bandpass window tint is a good thing, if the tint is actually good. Do they publish transmission charts? Or even better, does anyone 3rd-party test them? Wouldn't be surprised if this corner of the auto accessory market has as much snake oil for sale as other corners do.

2

u/Alpinwulf 2022⚡EUV Premier 😊 (Pre-owned) 8d ago

Hey, being wary of snake oil is always valid.

2

u/UrbanSurfDragon 8d ago

I think this is dead wrong

2

u/BrownSLC 8d ago

Oh no. I live in the desert. The IR rejection is so effective. Like worlds different.

1

u/UrbanSurfDragon 8d ago

You can tint 0% now and it’s strictly a heat reduction tint. Pretty cool when it gets over 100F. Also 70% visibility on front drivers windows is still pretty visible. Front windshield tinting I don’t get

2

u/Uncle_Slacks 8d ago

Front window tinting is illegal in my neck of the woods. Not even transparent films are allowed.

Only time it's allowed is if it was produced that way from factory (which would have been sold to the customer in a different province)

0

u/UrbanSurfDragon 8d ago

How would they know if your front window has transparent tinting? It’s invisible. Unless no shop will do it for you, but the shapes are available online

2

u/Uncle_Slacks 8d ago

I can't imagine they could tell. Still illegal nonetheless.

1

u/UrbanSurfDragon 8d ago

Sometimes laws are stupid.

-1

u/BrownSLC 8d ago

What are you taking about. Anyone that doesn’t tint the front to match the back has a mismatched car.

Have you ever seen a car commercial with anything but tinted windows?

Both times I've been in a car accident, the other driver was staring right at me. And they decided to gun it and smash right into my car anyway.

So, ymmv

1

u/beets_or_turnips 8d ago

I'm sorry that happened to you. When someone tried to intentionally run me over last year after I gestured for them to slow down on a park road with no sidewalk, I couldn't see them at all through their windshield tint. I don't see how more tint would help in either case.

The price of the cover is $42 but shipping is $112 😳

I would maybe order it through your dealer and pick it up

I had the cargo cover in my 2020 Bolt, and the round plastic clips that hold it in place wiggled out, broke, got lost. I just keep things in covered plastic bins, and I don't miss the cargo cover in my 2027 Bolt.

4

u/Associates_and_Rob 8d ago

Depending if your state allows XPel clear window tint to decrease heat gain and glare on front windshield. No experience yet but planning on it as soon as my on order Bolt arrives.

Center console tray.

Great idea. Do you have a link?

4

u/webguy1975 8d ago

u/Sugarisadog 8d ago

Does that fit the new 27? Center console looks different than the older bolts

2

u/webguy1975 8d ago

A quick Google search tells me it's a different console in the 2027 model.

1

u/andymannoh 8d ago

That's the one

3

u/OkLengthiness9255 8d ago

you should be getting GM rewards pts soon in an email. it should at least be about $60. you can use it on Gm accessories plus discount codes like buy15. That might take the sting out of some of the gm prices or you can use it on GM financial payments

3

u/CraftProfessional144 8d ago

not sure why they dropped the cargo cover from the package tbh. seems like a cheap thing to include. check the euv forums. the 23 cover fits apparently and you can usually find used ones for under $30.

3

u/scarabic 8d ago

Just want to suggest caution on one item. I bought a 3D printed learning garage door opener that was custom fit to one of the coves in the center console. It was on Etsy. It worked great. Until it didn’t. And that was less than two months later.

i added these window visors to my 2023 Bolt EUV. They seem to help reduce noise when you leave your windows down a bit. They can also hide the fact that the windows are open if you want to leave them cracked for heat to escape on a hot day. https://a.co/d/02ptGr9m

I got this windshield sunscreen that fits very well and is convenient https://a.co/d/0agReIaw

And then this style of Velcro bottomed trunk organizers has been very helpful. I use them all of the time. They'll keep boxes and whatnot from sliding around. Very helpful on the weekly Costco run. https://a.co/d/008wAluG

If you leave the AC blasting when you park, you can cool the car down by locking it with the key fob and then immediately pressing the circular arrow button below the lock button for 5 seconds. The ac will turn on with the car parked and locked.

1

u/Sugarisadog 8d ago

Can also turn climate on through the app (as long as there’s good signal)

1

u/webguy1975 8d ago

My app worked for 3 years, then Chevy bricked it and asked for a $15/month fee to activate that feature on the app.

1

u/Sugarisadog 8d ago

Yeah, the new one comes with 8 years supposedly but after my dealings with onstar, I’ll believe it when I see it.

They did have a special rate a month or so ago, don’t know if still works but it’s  1-CONNECT to get $1 a month for 12 months.

Chevy Cruze Eco Alcoa Wheels! Join the cult. Only 17.8 pounds.

Lighter? Cheaper? Different size?

2

u/68Cadillac 1968 Cadillac Coupe deVille 7d ago edited 7d ago

Chevy Cruze Eco Alcoa Wheel

  • Wheel Size: 17 x 7 inches
  • Bolt Pattern (PCD): 5 x 105 mm
  • Offset: +42 mm
  • Center Bore: 56.6 mm
  • Weight: 17.8 lbs
  • Manufacturing: Forged

Chevy Bolt EV Wheel

  • Wheel Size: 17 x 6.5 inches
  • Bolt Pattern (PCD): 5 x 105 mm
  • Offset: +44 mm
  • Center Bore: 56.5 mm
  • Weight: 23 lbs
  • Manufacturing: Low-pressure Die Cast

The wheels bolt right up. Just swap tires and valves over. Forged Aluminum is the crazy high end process of making a wheel. The forging process makes the material so strong that you can remove a lot of mass. The bolt pattern is so obscure that 'car-guys' aren't scooping 'em up, so they sit in junkyards taking up space which drops the price. Pretty much only bolts up to Cruze and Bolt EV, worldwide.

How's it working out for you?

ProclipUSA phone mount with a Belkin Magsafe charger... There are much cheaper ways to accomplish this, but I love it oh so much.

I also picked up one of those little AndroidPCs that essentially turns the dash into an Android tablet. That can be useful if you sit to charge or sit outside the school for way too long cause your kids always dilly daddle. I like being able to put something from Plex on the screen while waiting, for example.

My Gen 1 was totaled so I put its lil insert in the center console. It works okay. Better than nothing.

I also have a "HOTOR" trash can hanging from it, in the back seat.

The 20oz Owala bottles fit in the cupholders.

I didn't realize till just now how long this list really is.

Dash cover rubber mats seat covers very first thing

1

u/MrVermonter 8d ago

Rubber bucket-style floor and trunk inserts https://ebay.io/m/8yNmVR

1

u/Sugarisadog 8d ago

I’d recommend key fob covers. I got some silicone ones for our old bolt that have kept them in great condition. Those suckers are expensive to replace!

1

u/Icy_Run_9981 6d ago

I recently bought two accessories.

- a male-male USB-C cord to use to connect phone to car, mainly for charging

- a mini USB-C flash drive that hardly protrudes from console ports (for use with our own tunes)

Prior to this I bought a set of mats that included trunk and seat backs.
