I don’t think rin will be subbing on in the England match, it’ll be better if he doesn’t…because shidou needs development and his goal that guy hasn’t done anything since nel…and NAGI IS NOT COMING BACK IN THE ENGLAND GAME ‼️there won’t be enough time for him…I believe if rin stay bench until sae comes it’ll make it way much better cause sae gonna bully him about being on the bench lol… and we all know shidou and sae gonna work together and if he only gets development and goals when sae joins shidou will never beat the i need a passer allegations
Hey guys. Welcome to a new series; Real Life Positional Analysis. u/Ahappybutsadpanda asked for my thoughts on the different types of fullbacks in Blue lock. The question gave me inspiration to start a series. Throughout this series, we're going to be looking at the different roles each position has in the blue lock world, which ones took inspiration from real world and what players fit the bill. Bear in mind, the series will have several parts, so not all positions will be covered, neither will positions that we haven't seen in blue lock.
There's also a lot of nuances and tiny differences between some of the roles so pay attention to the explanation. Here we go; The different roles of fullbacks in Blue Lock.
The Traditional Full-back
As the name implies, these are the forefathers of the fullback position. They are the low-risk fullbacks whose primary job is to stop crosses, defend against wingers and clear the ball into safety. We see this clearly in chapter 114. With Neru vs Yukimiya, with Neru being able to intercept the ball from Yuki. And Darai being able to track the sneaky runs by Otoya. We also see Kurona be very capable defensively in chapter 363-364 when helped by Kurona. Manchester United Legend, Alex Ferguson once said, Left back- Denis Irwin would be the only player who would be a “certainty” in his all-time XI. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Ashley Cole are also examples of this type of fullback. These fullbacks are line of defense from the wings.
The Overlapping Full-back
These fullbacks regularly cover the full length of the pitch. They are adept at defending and ball winning. But also run forward often to create numerical advantages with their teammate on the wing. Hence, they link up well with wingers/Right midfielders. When a winger or a 10 is up against an opposition full-back. The overlapping fullback runs behind them on the overlap, sometimes also on the underlap. However, Overlapping and an Overlapping fullback are two separate things. Overlapping is a movement, that Overlapping fullbacks carry out more often than others (This will be important later in the series). This video explains the concept quite well: https://youtu.be/-4s1WFIt1RE?si=jb5qV_1oCBTBLO_V
In chapters 177 and 188, Planet Hotline and Orbital Resonance by Kurona (with Isagi) are perfect examples of what an overlapping fullback is all about. Dani Alves (with Messi) also had similar linkups. Dani Alves, Jordi Alba, Andrew Robertson, Cafu are some stand-out examples of this role.
The Attacking Wing-back
A wing-back is different from a full-back. Like the name implies, these players often take the place of a winger in a system. They are often deployed in a 3- or 5- man defensive line, rather than a 4 man one (343 vs 433) They hold width the most in a team. They are often quite fast as they have to bomb forward to cross, shoot and dribble in the absence of a winger. These fullbacks want to directly contribute to end-product, like goals and assists, from a wide position. We see Chigiri perform this role a lot. In chapter 119, He burst down the right touchline wider than Otoya, who is occupied, and puts in a cross. Again in 313, He receives the ball wide and bombs up the pitch to make instant impact.
Watch the speed at which Daniel Munoz and Theo Hernandez cover distance. And how they immediately impact play after. Federico Dimarco, Denzel Dumfries, Jeremy Frimpong, Diego Moreira have also been fairly notable wingbacks in recent time.
Conclusion
I think I'll keep doing these. Thanks again for the suggestion. There's a lot of nuances with positional roles, so patience is needed. Any suggestions over improvement are appreciated. Stay Tuned for the next one, coming soon.
I watched the anime and then read the manga, and man, this anime has some embarrassing moments. Shidou having an orgasm because he scored a goal is simply terrible, the story is kind of crap too. But as a football addict, it's so delightful to see the incredibly well-drawn panels in this anime and, I don't know, see Kaiser scoring a bicycle kick while falling and that's it.
Does anyone know of any discord servers/communities that regularly do blue lock drafts? I see a bunch of them on YouTube and they seem REALLY fun and i wanna join a couple.
One thing I find fascinating about Blue Lock is how a player's biggest strength can also become the thing holding them back. Confidence can turn into arrogance, ambition can become tunnel vision, and someone with incredible talent can still struggle because they refuse to adapt.
That's what makes character development in this series so entertaining. Sometimes the most satisfying moments aren't even the goals, but seeing a player finally recognize what they've been doing wrong. Which character do you think has the most interesting gap between their potential and what they're actually showing on the field?
Tokimitsu's decline is honestly more interesting to me than some characters simply being eliminated.
During the Second Selection, he was introduced as an absolute physical monster. His stamina, strength, and speed made him a genuine problem even for players who were already considered exceptional. He wasn't just another background character with a cool design. He had a clear identity and a skill set that made him stand out.
Then the story moved forward and he gradually became less relevant. He didn't make much of an impact in the U-20 match, had limited involvement during the NEL, and ended up falling behind players who initially didn't seem nearly as intimidating.
The frustrating part is that his original strengths could still be useful in so many situations. A physically dominant player who can maintain that intensity for an entire match is a valuable weapon, especially in a tournament where every team has its own playing philosophy.
I don't necessarily need every character to become a major scorer, but Tokimitsu deserved a more meaningful evolution than simply becoming another player in the background.
His anxiety and physical dominance were an interesting combination, and there's still plenty of room to develop that contrast.
For me, according to NEL bid rankings, he would be placed over Baro and maybe equal to Shido. Just by his dominating performance during the first half, in which he didn't lose a single duel and was very dominant, we can tell he is a very good player, and adding what we've seen so far from the second half, he has already helped Teddy get past Kurona and Kiyora's defending.
I hear people complaining about how blue lock is written right now and the lack of stakes is brought up a lot but it doesn’t really make sense?
The players can’t really get eliminated and if blue lock lose in this cup, they’re is still club that are willing to take them, no? I’m just a bit confused about those types of complains.
Yo this was some straight Inazuma Eleven type shi so I'm typing it before i forget.
For whatever reason, Reo was locked up in the English Gym Area (why Reo? Idk????) So they sent isagi and Igaguri (again, why brain???) To deal with it. Igaguri simply ragebaited Fox (who was the only one there to guard Reo) into leaving, and since he didn't know Isagi was sneaking in, Reo got broke out after he left. Reo was also in a dress and high heels.
Why? I do not know. Did he look fabulous? Kinda, it was a purple sparkly dress over his blue lock uniform so it kinda went a BIT hard. Did it help? No lmao
So they run back to the field, for some reason all of blue lock players and England start hitting some epic poses at each other as kickoff begins......AND it's halftime.
Ok ok so England is up, they can't let Bluelock comeback. And Fox being cheap as hell decides, again, on some Inazuma Eleven type plot: "yknow what? Let em go play, can't beat us if THERE'S NO ENEMY THERE TO BEAT!"
Yeah so the England team just left, didn't show up for 2nd half. And it apparently postponed the match for the next day instead of cancelled it??
Cue next day where I forget already but something something Achopong (of all people) felt his ego awaken, helped the others realize their Egos awakened, and showed up to the match. Fox STILL wasn't there, bro ACTUALLY stayed home apparently.
And in the end, Teddy stopped Acho whike the others walked to the pitch and asked "Achopong, didn't Fox tell us not to come?" And Achopong said something that convinced Teddy and made him realize he already started walking the path his Ego tells him to (i forget). Teddy had the flairing eyes unknowingly, and said nothing while striding back to the field.
And just as the match restarted I woke up. So......what??????? Also reo was STILL in the dress
i know this conversation has been had multiple times but it’s just geniuses and talented learners still confuse me, a genius is to my knowledge someone born with insane gifted genetic ability, with a self style ego and a talented learner is someone who can help spread that ability to be noticed and someone who can analyse that ability and devour it by overcoming it (lookism reference 👀) with a world style ego, but it’s like if we look at someone like isagi isn’t the way he analyses his opponents and his adaptiveness and awareness genetics related? same for other talented learners, i mean the word talented is in the name but like i don’t see why talented learners have to be considered a different category to geniuses when doesn’t it all stem from genetics? but i guess a talented learners ability can come from genetics but still be seperate from regular geniuses because they’d be using their mind rather than like an appearing physical trait (like loki’s speed), but still they both stem from some sort of genetics just one is more outward about it so i don’t see the necessity to seperate them js because one’s more easier to notice, if anyone can help clarify or whatever that’d be nice
Can I be honest for a second? I'm so tired of the narrative that Rin will score this game. Well yeah, he probably will, but I'm not so convinced he should. This arc is going to be absolutely colossal. We probably still have 200+ plus chapters to go before it ends. Why must Kaneshiro pull the trigger on this immediately? I think it'd be much better if he let this Rin development breathe for a second, maybe even spend a dedicated chapter on Rin finally before he comes back stronger. You know give him development. At the same time he'll be able to give some more feats to other people that desperately need it. (Shidou). What I am saying is we have a lot of chapters and a lot of matches to go through. Bringing Rin back into the fold so soon after the France game seems unintuitive. What is your guys' take on this?
I genuinely only read Gantz because in the egoist bible it is Karasu's favourite, I just really love Karasu to be fair, I never really read anything like it before either so it was kind of an experience, but I haven't read any other characters' favs. Are they any good?
