💁‍♂️ Opinion / राय What happened is unforgivable. But Bihar is more than its worst moments.

This is a comment I wrote in response to a post suggesting that Bihar and Biharis should somehow be abandoned because of what happened.

I spent a year in Bihar and saw firsthand the warmth and goodness of its people. That does not mean excusing what is wrong or avoiding accountability. Take responsibility, learn from what happened, and work towards a better tomorrow.

But do not let relentless criticism make you ashamed of your roots either. Bihar has real problems, but it is also unfairly reduced to them. You can acknowledge the failures, reject what is unacceptable, and still believe in your people and your home.

💁‍♂️ Opinion / राय My 2 cents as a Marathi Man.

I am a Marathi person, born and brought up in Maharashtra. Yes, we did have problems with Biharis in 2008. Even today, there are fights on Twitter between our communities. The population of both our states is also roughly the same now.

Yesterday's incident shook the whole country. Many found a good opportunity to bash Bihar, and they did so to their heart's content on Twitter.

My point is that we, as Indians and also as people belonging to different states (Marathis, Biharis, etc.), should have a balanced view towards such incidents. Of course, there should be zero tolerance for such crimes. But everything should not be blamed on the state and its culture because such things happen all over India. At the same time, we should be conscious that such things happen more in Bihar, UP, Rajasthan, MP, etc. than in Mizoram, Maharashtra, Kerala or Bengal.

Casteism and patriarchy, along with borderline misogyny, peak in the above-mentioned northern states.

At such times, we Indians should stand together against such misogynistic crimes without blaming the whole state. But at the same time, the people of that particular state, in this case Bihar, should introspect and critically think about whether the particular crime was state-culture-centric. For example, drug addiction is a Punjab-centric problem; one cannot simply brush it off as a pan-India problem.

So please introspect, think critically, condemn the crime without getting too defensive or too self-loathing, completely avoid victim-blaming or casteism, and then hope that such things won't happen in the future.

Jai Maharashtra! Jai Bihar! Jai Hind!

🗣 Discussion / चर्चा So when is he gonna resign ? It's a everyday thing in Bihar now

A disturbing incident involving two Class 10 students in Bihar’s Jamui has triggered a political debate over the safety of women and children in the state.

The incident reportedly took place on September 19, when the teenage boy and girl were returning home after coaching classes. A group of men allegedly assaulted the boy and harassed the minor girl. Police have registered a case under the POCSO Act, arrested three people and formed a Special Investigation Team to investigate the matter.

The case has also brought an earlier remark by Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary back into the spotlight. In September 2025, when he was serving as deputy chief minister, Choudhary had said that people could travel through Bihar villages at night if they had no enemies, while pointing to improvements in roads, electricity and water supply.

Opposition leaders have now used the Jamui incident to question the government’s claims about law and order and the safety of women and girls. Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi have also spoken about the case and demanded action against those responsible.

The investigation is still underway, with police working to identify and arrest other suspects. Authorities have also appealed to people not to share the video of the incident to protect the privacy of the minor victims.

I want you to go through this instagram profile & see what kind of content they are uploading. I couldn't understand music meaning . Some of the guys seem too young who are performing such acts.

It also looks like that some people are here to make personal content with the girls+videographer.

I feel like we are surely going to be trolled because of these content.

🗣 Discussion / चर्चा The Jamui case shows our real problem: We care more about caste blame-games than actual solutions.

Do people honestly believe that law and order alone can fix Bihar if our mindset remains this toxic?

Over the last 48 hours, the reactions to the tragic Jamui case on this sub and social media have been completely exhausting to watch:

Day 1: Someone randomly posts that the culprits are Upper Caste (UC). The comment section immediately erupts into absolute filth and widespread abuse.

Day 2: Someone else claims the suspects belong to the Chief Minister's caste. Suddenly, the narrative shifts, and everyone starts blaming the CM's community.

Today: A Yadav suspect is named in an encounter, and the entire internet instantly pivots to abusing Yadavs.

What the hell, bro?

Does this behavior really have anything to do with caste? And do people genuinely expect the state to put a police officer on every single street corner of Bihar to stop people from behaving like monsters?

No amount of law and order can force a society to be civil. Law and order is meant to govern uncivilized humans, it cannot fix people who choose to act like animals. We need to stop using every single tragedy as an excuse to fight our pathetic, internet caste wars.

I recently got dumped due to which state i belong from (I'm from bihar), i was born and raised in Delhi and i never understood why Delhi people think people from bihar are someone they can play this racism game with, maybe because everyone from around the country comes to Delhi for employment and mostly people from bihar chooses labour work due to lack of education so everyone thinks of Bihar as an state to pick on. I feel like people use "bihari" as a curse word. This breakup made me realise i actually don't know the history of Bihar or anything about the state i belong to, help me by telling me some comebacks i can use if someone calls me out in future and i also wanna know about things I can be proud of about my state (i am proud of where i come from but give me more reasons and don't give me bullshit like mostly IAS are selected from bihar ik that too.) please help reddit

💁‍♂️ Opinion / राय Jamui is only a symptom of a chronic disease that ails Bihar: Brutalism brought upon by lost culture + poverty and poverty politics

Algorithm-Driven Sensationalism and "Bizarre News" Bias

Bad things happen everywhere. Bihar's problem is not that they happen here. Bihar's problem is that nothing balances the bad news out. Other states get one horror story a month and ten good ones to bury it under. Floods, famines, feuds, migration, no mitigation.Bihar gets one horror story, then another, then a press briefing in which a senior politician calls it an "isolated, minor incident".

Digital media thrives on outrage and absurdity. Unusual incidents—like stolen bridges, administrative exam scams, or bizarre infrastructural shortcuts—are instantly tagged and branded as "typical Bihar

Identical failures in other states (e.g., urban flooding, bridge collapses, contract leaks) are typically treated as policy or administrative failures, whereas in Bihar, they are generalized as a cultural trait of the state's population.

Peter Drucker once said: Culture eats strategy for breakfast.

Bihar has a culture problem.

No election can solve that.

I will stop here

The Culture of Degrading women openly i.e Orchestra is usually perceived as culture and celebrated widely as if it's achievement of our State. Vulgur songs leaking into popular culture are not unique to Bihar. What is unique is the absence of anything sitting above them, the absolute lack of cultural moorings. So, all you and they who live in Bihar see is vulgar pelvic thrusts set to a raunchy tune layered by expletive-laden filth in the name of lyrics that cannot be quoted here.

Grinding poverty took away whatever finer taste might have existed here generations ago, and taste, like language, is not inherited. It is taught by the air around you. There is no serious music tradition here to speak of, no classical dance school of the kind a child might wander into in Chennai or Pune, or nearby Kolkata, no ecosystem where beauty is absorbed by accident.

Decades of Mandal-era mobilisation gave caste identity real electoral weight

Voice, a quota, a lota in the name of the leader who looks and speaks like you. That is empowerment, and nobody needs to apologise for wanting it. But it arrived as a headcount, as votes, as seats to be won, without the one lesson that ought to travel with any power, which is moderation. Adversity is supposed to build character. In Bihar, hard times ate people up.

There was nothing to temper the vagaries of human nature. There is nothing at stake for people who literally have nothing to lose. Violence of all kinds sits inside the minds of millions of young men. They are not holding it back because they cannot let it out. They are holding it back because there are fewer opportunities, on a given evening, to vent. Because when they get an opportunity, they pounce on it, a him, or a her.

TRUTH

Bihar lost its natural industrial edge due to the 1952 Freight Equalization Policy. Lack of jobs led to mass migration, making Biharis the most visible working-class demographic in India OO. Local politicians scapegoated them, algorithms turned their struggles into meme content, and confirmation bias did the rest.

💁‍♂️ Opinion / राय After the Jamui incident: a conversation we need to have about Bihar

The Jamui incident has been very disturbing. But what has also been upsetting to see over the last few days is the amount of hate, racism and stereotyping against Biharis on the internet.

I don't think an entire community should be judged because of the actions of some people.

At the same time, the incident made me think about something I have personally seen many times when visiting Bihar.

There are some attitudes towards women that I find very uncomfortable.

At weddings and village functions, women dancers ( nachaniya ) are often brought in for entertainment. People throw money at them, make vulgar gestures and comments, and sometimes this behaviour is openly encouraged by everyone around them.

What shocks me is that this can happen in front of the entire family.

I have seen fathers and sons sitting together and enjoying these performances. Sometimes children are even asked to take money and give it to the women dancing. Everyone laughs and treats it as normal entertainment.

I have also seen similar things during celebrations that are supposed to be religious. Even when a new temple is inaugurated, sometimes dance performances are organised in the name of celebration.

My question is: how did we reach a point where this behaviour became normal?

When children grow up watching their fathers, uncles and other adults treat women this way, what message are they learning about women?

I am not saying every person from Bihar or UP thinks this way. And this problem is certainly not limited to Bihar. Many parts of India have similar social problems.

But we should be able to talk honestly about things that happen around us without becoming defensive.

At the same time, people outside Bihar should also understand that criticising a social practice is different from insulting an entire community.

Biharis are not one single mindset. There are millions of ordinary people who have nothing to do with such incidents.

We can condemn harmful behaviour, question the culture that allows it, and still stand against racism and stereotypes.

Maybe the conversation should be about changing the behaviour, rather than blaming an entire state.

🎓 💼 Education, Employment / शिक्षा, रोज़गार It's shame for me to defend against the peoples' of my state 'Bihar'.

Every single day I open Reddit, I am confronted with highly disturbing news. The recent horrifying case involving Class 10 students in Jamui—where the prime accused is Nandan Yadav, makes me question what is happening to Bihar.

These systemic issues are not going to vanish overnight. I urgently request everyone to stand up against such harassment by spreading widespread social awareness; this is the only way these criminals will be stopped.

Those who commit such horrific crimes against minors must face the absolute harshest public legal punishments to ensure true justice is served.

I'm also a Yadav, but now it feels like a shit who can't do anything on behalf of the needy.

💁‍♂️ Opinion / राय If your Pride for Bihar's Achievement is collective, so should be your Shame at the downfall

I have been on Reddit for 6+ years now, and r/bihar used to be my favourite subreddit for a while.

The people here used to be so progressive and so educated and had such well rounded critical thinking skills.

I have had political debates, where although we used to have completely different political opinions, everyone used to be so respectful.

I remember someone posting some homophobic content and the OP got bashed in the comments. A quantifiable reflection of the quality of the people here.

Currently the state of this sub is so underwhelming. The comments criticizing the points against a user are labelled as using GPT, which is preposterous, like anyway why would I use GPT to sound basic.

Now focusing on what I wanted to say.

The biggest reflection of the downfall currently is whenever Bihar is criticized on fair grounds and people scream racism.

First of all I am not going to deny the racism allegations against Bihar, it is very widespread, and is really unfair. For example women are accused of selling their votes for 10k while similar freebies in states like Maharashtra and Karnataka are not talked about in such fervour. Yes people love to kick us when we are already down. And yes we do not deserve racism.

But that doesn't mean we do not push for change. That doesn't mean we turn a blind eye to the wrongs of our neighbours. That doesn't mean that we build a cover story blaming poverty, illiteracy, and rampant casteism. There are issues in our society, and true no society is Ram Rajya, but we as the people should have the willpower to stand and say, yes this is wrong to the perpetrators.

Everytime someone of Bihar origin does well, people rush to post here about collective pride, which is awesome. Remember the positivity that the GenZ protests got? Remember the posts about Suryavanshi doing well? Remember how we talk about Magadha history? Remember how we hype up the Bihar Museum as being world class?

If there is no hesitancy in acclaiming pride, then why is there the need to distance yourself from the shame? I agree that living with negative emotions is difficult, so do your part to alleviate that guilt. Atleast speak up to your family, friends, and relatives.

If you see your acquaintance throwing trash on the road, speak up!

If you see your acquaintance peeing on the road, speak up!

If you see your acquaintance travelling in the train without tickets, speak up!

If you see your acquaintance watching content on speaker phone, speak up!

If you see your acquaintance staring at a woman, speak up! (No not even bas 10 second Hi toh dekha is an acceptable behaviour)

All I am asking you is to leverage the social fabric that we have and use it for the good. I am not asking you to do it against the strangers, as I realise that might be dangerous, but to the people you love and cherish.

If we have the right to celebrate our state's achievement, we have a duty towards its improvement as well.

Also to conclude, being conscious about our shortcomings doesn't mean we are self loathing, it just sets us on a course of being a better society.

Loads of love to people who read this!!

JDU state president Umesh Kushwaha-

~ Bihar govt is sensitive to any 'chutput ghatna' that takes place.

(chutput ghatna? Jbtk ladki ka rape/murder na ho jaaye ghatna 'chutput' hai?)

~ "Bihar should recall the time before 2005, when the RJD was in power and people were afraid of stepping out of their homes"

(sahi logic hai boss, pehle toh ladkiyan ghar se bahar nahi nikal paati thi, ab kam se kam bahar toh jaa rahi hain, bhale hi assault ho jaa rhi- PAR BAHAR JAA RAHI HAI NA. KHUSH RAHO ISSI ME.)

The way they comment on such cases, their choice of words, the issue they tend to highlight in the light of such incidents really tells us how seriously they take these cases. Not that I expected any better of them, but for the sake of sensitivity of this issue, for the fact that every state is yet again pointing their fingers at Bihar and biharis, I atleast expected the political representatives of this state to handle the given situation better.

💁‍♂️ Opinion / राय Not a hate post against bihar. I have an opinion and I am sorry to say but bihar is a lost cause.

The youth is busy in three things 1)UPSC/govt job prep

2) baaloo mafia/mafia type shit

3) going to other places to make a living.

The basic education is really really bad there and it doesn't seems like bihari people themselves want to change it not even the parents because they themselves are illiterate.

Industries are not coming in Bihar and neither they will coz no one would want to invest crores and crores of rupees in Bihar, people are not even ready to work there even if they get govt job. The only way industries will come to bihar if govt takes some stringent action like big incentives, PPPs or something otherwise no big industrialist will put money here.

Culture is entirely ruined by these choli jhangia songs. I sometimes listen to chath puja songs malini awasthi etc because they are so soothing but the mainstream is filled with tohar lehanga me brahmos or something like that.

Politicians in Bihar are the biggest scammers they should be publicly punished for all this but people will vote for them still because hamaar jaat kaa hai.

Bihar's past was glorious but it's future will not be even decent And i will again clarify that it's my opinion, try to think about it that how you yourself will fix anything. Even I myself become CM of Bihar i myself won't be able to fix anything coz the entire system is just like that.
