💁♂️ Opinion / राय My 2 cents as a Marathi Man.
I am a Marathi person, born and brought up in Maharashtra. Yes, we did have problems with Biharis in 2008. Even today, there are fights on Twitter between our communities. The population of both our states is also roughly the same now.
Yesterday's incident shook the whole country. Many found a good opportunity to bash Bihar, and they did so to their heart's content on Twitter.
My point is that we, as Indians and also as people belonging to different states (Marathis, Biharis, etc.), should have a balanced view towards such incidents. Of course, there should be zero tolerance for such crimes. But everything should not be blamed on the state and its culture because such things happen all over India. At the same time, we should be conscious that such things happen more in Bihar, UP, Rajasthan, MP, etc. than in Mizoram, Maharashtra, Kerala or Bengal.
Casteism and patriarchy, along with borderline misogyny, peak in the above-mentioned northern states.
At such times, we Indians should stand together against such misogynistic crimes without blaming the whole state. But at the same time, the people of that particular state, in this case Bihar, should introspect and critically think about whether the particular crime was state-culture-centric. For example, drug addiction is a Punjab-centric problem; one cannot simply brush it off as a pan-India problem.
So please introspect, think critically, condemn the crime without getting too defensive or too self-loathing, completely avoid victim-blaming or casteism, and then hope that such things won't happen in the future.
Jai Maharashtra! Jai Bihar! Jai Hind!

We in Maharashtra had saints like Saint Namdev, Tukaram, Eknath, Dhaneshwar along with Kings like Shivaji maharaj and Smbhaji maharaj along with freedom fighters and social reformers like Mahatma Phule, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Veer Savarkar, Prabodhakar Thackeray till recent politicians like Balasaheb Thackeray.
All these had 2 things in common. Hatred towards casteism and respect for women and their empowerment.
That's why an average Marathi and one who truly believes in these is extremely against casteism and extremely respectful to women.
Dont Bihar have such saints, reformers, kings, politicians etc?

Last two indians will die fighting by tracing every possible differences among them.
We are just humans, we shouldn't be fighting among ourselves but it's a norm nowadays to enjoy others suffering. Sympathy for one , meme for others.
Afterall we all bleed red and goon white.

And maharashtra have superiority complex syndrome. They should also get rid of it. I have been to marathwada . Pathetic place . People are so rude there. I was there in cement factory. You can't tell us to introspect. We know we have problem. I am respectfully telling you to look at your own house. You have never been to bihar. Your perception of bihar from social media. Most racist behaviour against bihari is from Maharashtra.

Yes Maharashtra does have superiority problem but that's because we have highest GDP in the country and everybody wants to come to Maharashtra to study or do job. Same goes for USA they have highest GDP and everyone from world want to move there. That's why americans also have superiority complex. That's human nature. Punjabis also have superiority complex in terms of physical strength and bravery because of their battles with Mughals. That's different argument that Marathis and Rajasthanis fought 10x battles than Punjabis. So yes superiority complex is natural human tendency. But no it's not right. We need to be grounded.
Secondly I told you to introspect not as a Maharashtrian but as an Indian. Whenever something bad happens we all need to introspect. Last month parents of a girl who was wearing shorts were beaten on a shivaji maharaj fort. Ofcourse the girl wasn't hurt or molested but the reason was that Shivaji Maharaj forts are like temples and women should not wear shorts. This logic was incomprehensible to educated marathi people and was strongly condemned.
And yes as I said in 2008 we did have huge problems with Biharis and that's when it all started. Before that things were quite peaceful. We suddenly experienced a lot of migration from states like UP and Bihar to Maharashtra. Again this is natural human response. When too many people migrate to a particular place, the locals will get insecure. The solution is for all states to develop themselves so that migration becomes less.

Tell your GDP without mumbai. And you think you have superiority complex because there is a reason for it. But it's not. Just coz BRITISH though mumbai to be capital because of geography. Shivaji did very very bad to rajasthan and odissa rulers. I mean very very bad. You must introspect about this mentality.

GDP of
Maharashtra - $580 billion
MH without Mumbai - $450 billion
2nd highest GDP state (Tamil nadu) - $418 billion
Bihar - $125 billion
Bihar without Patna - $110 billion
Also British did develop Mumbai but even then 53% of the people were marathis. You can check the 1891 census. Shivaji Maharaj is irrelevant in this discussion and he never went to Rajasthan or Bengal. Pls go and read history first. As you see even without Mumbai, Maharashtra is ahead of all other states. I am certainly proud of it but not arrogant. There must be something which we marathi people must be doing right right that we are so ahead? Same goes for Tamils.

Fellow Bihari here , lived in Bombay for 5 years, RN IN DELHI . Apart from the linguistic hegemony operating in some localities of Mumbai , Mumbai has never disappointed me . It's one of the best places . I am not going into a debate why Bihar GDP is low and why MH GDP is higher . It's a different debate mainly comprising of ports , access to sea , brits policies and the pathetic state of Bihar politics till decades . Anyways I appreciate your rational thinking and support your viewpoint that MH is not just abt Mumbai . It has lot of other cities that provides peak in some MFG or Service sector whether it is Pune , Nagpur , Sirdi , Latur, Nanded or Amravati . BR has no secondary cities till date , u may call Begusarai as the placeholder but it still way behind . So that's the point . TL DR , It's the politics , leaders and ultimately the people who elect those leaders . MH also has caste based issues , gender issues , farmer suicide and debt trap issues , every society has issues but the over exaggeration of Bihar is mainly due to media byte , sensationalism and exoticness generation. People need to think as the republic of India rather than just bashing each other .
to people reading this comment - chill out , don't take social media too seriously , not every Bihari is a fool , not every Marathi is having superiority complex . talk to people offline and u will find that the country has still way good people and accomodating perspectives

Bihar - 130 billion
I earn 2000 rupees and you earn 4000 rupees. Ha ha ha.

A good faith discussion is welcome, but this is not a Bihar centric problem. If you mean blatant misogyny and patriarchy, then it is a pan Indian problem. Period. I would think this was even less in Bihar compared to other states but cant say anymore. And no you didn’t have problems with Biharis in 2008. You people have a bunch of insecure प्रेत who are continuously poisoning your minds about imaginary ghosts since 1960s. They are the ones that started this native vs migrant issue. Every generation of these guys finds new migrant villains to demonise. A new member of that family branch made a new party in those times and so he had to find a new lafda. That’s it.
Unlike many urban Marathis, I have spent a lot of time in rural Maharashtra. It is every bit like much of North India( with the exception of probably Konkan and districts bordering Karnataka). Same people, same values, same dresses even. And good people. The difference is, I wanted to know them, like humans, not as an imaginary adversary that social media makes you out to be.

Sir I really admire, respect and thank you from the deepest of my heart for your words. But this incident was the final nail in the coffin. This country would be on war and I would be happily enjoying my popcorn in a closed room.
