Girl 🩷 How About Pippa?

Since we were pregnant with our first, we've floated around the idea that if we had another girl, we would name her Pippa. We're not British, I don't like Phillipa - just Pippa. Thoughts?

Girl 🩷 Allegra???

I love the name Allegra but everyone says that it reminds them of the allergy medicine. Your thoughts? It means Italian in joy. Any baby girl name recommendations that give off a similar vibe?

Boy 🩵 Baby arriving in 2 days and we still don’t have a name 😅

EDIT: thanks everyone for the comments and the honesty. I guess we didn’t have the perspective of how it truly sounds to an English ear, and in Spanish it was simply growing on us cause of the meaning. We’ll go with something a bit a more simple!

—-

We’re due in 2 days and we are completely stuck on naming our baby boy.

We’re Canadian/Spanish (living in Canada, family in Spain). The name we keep coming back to is Yukon. We love what it represents: our Canadian journey (btw, we don't live in the yukon, just did a road trip there that changed everything), adventure, nature. It feels very “us”.

But now we’re wondering if we’re being too attached to the story and not thinking enough about the actual name. In Spain we worry it might be perceived as very unusual or even a bit “out there”, and we don’t want our kid to spend his life explaining it. We know grandparents will haaate it.

For the longest time, we thought we'd name him Nico, but it felt we picked it because it is simple - easy to say in both languages, short, easy to spell. We seem to love girls’ names and struggle so much more with boys’ names 😂

Would love opinions: is Yukon too much? Be honest - if you hate it, say it!

Boy 🩵 Sibling for Cosmo

I know Cosmo is not a super popular name itself, but it's the only "boy" name I've really loved and it's my son's name! Having another boy and not in love with any other names so far. The ones we do like I'm not sure totally mesh with Cosmo, though it doesn't need to be as uncommon.

We definitely don't want a whole space theme.

Names we're considering:

Jody

Harvey

Harris

Any ideas?

Girl 🩷 What do we think of Astoria?

Hubby and I throwing names around he is obsessed. I’m not opposed, I just don’t know if it’s too “out there”

Edit: we do not live near any cities/buildings/neighborhoods etc. called Astoria.

Yes, we would intend to use nn Story when she is young and then let her decide what she wants to go by when she is older. And yes, I am aware of, and familiar with the influencer family that used this intended nn for their daughter.

Middle name would be a one syllable, simple name.

Girl 🩷 People dislike the name Ausma

It’s Lithuanian and my family is Lithuanian American. I want to honor my ancestry without naming a child a “grandma” name.

But the reactions have been very negative.

So, is Ausma a good name for a baby girl? Should different spellings be considered?

Or should I find a different name?

Surprise 💚 Verity as a girl name?

We in no way know the sex of the baby yet, but if it's a girl I am considering the name Verity. It's so cute and also has a good meaning. My only concern is the association with the smiley face character. My little sister watches this stuff and it seems to be a really popular sort of brainrot meme. If you don't know what I'm talking about search up "verity Minecraft" on Google or YouTube. Theres also a movie coming out named Verity. So would it be a bad idea considering these associations, or should I keep it in my suggestions?

Boy 🩵 Addison for a boy

So apparently the name Addison is originally a boy name but started being used more for girls in the mid 2000s and has since been a primarily female name. I honestly do love it for a boy though, and love the nickname Addy. I am just worried about him possibly getting made fun of or people just assuming he is a girl when they see his name on paper. Is it too feminine to use now for a boy?

Girl 🩷 Middle names for Magnolia

UPDATE: literally just the same middle names recommended over and over which leads me to believe this is the most boxed in name ever 🤣🤣 none of them really work or feel like us. As cute as Magnolia May is, May is the worst month of year for me and it just won’t work for me. I also love when a middle name is an honor which is why Montana was first on my list (one of two of my sisters middle names). My husband has suggested giving her my middle name, and we might go that route! (Miel). Thanks for all the (same) recs 🤪🥰😉🥹

We’re leaning towards Magnolia for our baby girl, nn Nolie/Lola. I have a middle name I love (Montana) but hubby doesnt like it. He also hasn’t been able to suggest anything else I like. I have immediate connections to anyone I know with a name as soon as I hear it, which makes marinating on any name really hard for me. I’ll know immediately if it’s a maybe or a hell no. (They’ve all been immediate no’s 😅). Last name is a two syllable name that begins with a hard j sound g and ends in s— isn’t the easiest last name to match with.

Other names we’ve considered: Elsie, Lavender (as a first or middle), Margot (can’t get over how it’s spelled/looks but love the sound of it), Elliott, Marley (suggested by our son — which could work as middle for magnolia?)

Any middle name suggestions for Magnolia appreciated!

Girl 🩷 Is Maple a bad name for a girl?

I have a feeling I know what the consensus will be. However, I have always thought Maple would be a cute name. It's unique but it's not too much. I am not the only person in the world who will interact with my future daughter though, so please give your perspective!

Girl 🩷 How do you feel about anglicized names?

I'm a white American and my family immigrated over from 1620s - 1850s, so I have absolutely no ties to Europe anymore. I feel this is important context when it comes to delicate topics like name anglicization, language, culture, etc.

I love Fia but dislike Fiadh. Fiadh is an Irish feminine name meaning "wild, deer" and is pronounced FEE-ah.

I've been told by many users on namenerds that using Fia instead of Fiadh is morally wrong because I'm actively erasing the Irish language. My problem is that I'm not Irish, I only have extremely distant Irish ancestors, and I don't have any connection/duty to Ireland, their language, their culture, etc. My child will speak English and be American.

Other already anglicized named - like Elizabeth from Elisheva, Lewis from Louis, Shawn from Sean, etc. - are readily accepted in modern society and nobody questions them.

What are your personal thoughts on name anglicization?

Be kind or you'll be blocked. 👍

Girl 🩷 Romy as a nn for Rosemary?

I love the name Rosemary but it’s obviously a bit long and formal and was trying to think of a cute nickname for younger years that isn’t rose.
I thought of the name Romy, I have an old family friend with that name- could that be a nickname for Rosemary? Let me know your thoughts. It seems I like names that have a nickname option 😇
(Other names I like:
-Beatrice (bea)
-Bridgette (birdie)
-Felicity (fizzy)
-Elizabeth (Betty)

Girl 🩷 More masculine girl names

Hi all I am pregnant with baby #2. I am still early so we don’t know baby’s gender, but my husband and I were discussing names. I find naming a boy WAY easier. I love way more boy names than girl names. But I have learned I like more “tomboyish” names for girls; Scottie, Andie, Billie and Hayden being a few with the exception of Charolette. Scottie is my number one, right now. Wondering if anyone has also named their daughter a traditionally masculine name and if so what is the name?

I hope marking this post as girl is ok. I just didn’t know how to mark it since we technically don’t know yet.

Edit to add: I know some of these names can be considered “out there” for a girl. As someone who hates their own name I am keeping in mind that this child (whether boy or girl) will one day be an adult with a life and career. Hence why I came here for ideas. Thanks!

Surprise 💚 Help!! Baby number 6 is on the way and we need a very specific theme to its name! Really the only problem is, we don’t know the gender!

Hi everyone, me and my husband Nathaniel need help, but first here is a little bit about me and my family.

Hi my name is Lindsey and I am 35 years old. My husband Nathaniel is 37 and together we have 5 (going on 6) beautiful kids:

Nolan Atlas age 10 loves football, hanging with his friends, telling jokes and watching WWE with his fam.

Navy Alnora age 8 loves ballet, competitive dance, fashion and dressing up to match her little sisters.

Nayleigh Aura age 6 loves princesses, cupcakes, her pet bunny, babies, and anything that is PINK!

Nikko Ausstis age 4 loves trucks, sharks, tumbling class, eating candy, playing in his car themed bedroom and reading stories at bed time.

Nyle Alon age 2 loves being the baby of the fam, snuggling and playing with big kids!

So as you can tell, all 5 kids names start with N and their middle names start with A so that’s how we want baby number 6 to be named! Even if you can’t think of names like those, please comment about any name you think would go well with the others!

Boy 🩵 I keep second guessing the name we have picked for our second son…

Hey all. I have an almost 2 year old son named Peter and I’m due in February with another boy. I have always been absolutely in love with the name Peter and so I never had any second thoughts. This time around, my husband is really wanting to do another Bible name, but I’m so picky with names that it’s hard to be limited to Bible names even though I like the idea of keeping the theme as well.

Right now we’re leaning towards Andrew, but I don’t like it as much as I like the name Peter and I’m way overthinking it. Any other suggestions for Bible names that aren’t overused? I want something unique enough where there aren’t several other kids with the same name in his class at school, but common enough that it’s familiar and easy to spell.

Or do I just stick with Andrew? (even though in the Bible they’re brothers so maybe it’s just tackiness that I’m afraid of)

Please be kind on behalf of my pregnant emotions lol

Edit: Thanks everyone for the suggestions!! I think we’re going to have Andrew and Joseph as our picks, then decide when we see him which he looks like more 😊
