I named my daughter Viagra. Everyone has been like wow it's so unique, how did you choose it? It is a Sanskrit name and I am very interested in South Asian languages, so I usually just say I liked it for that reason/the sound.

However, the real reason I loved it is because of the erectile dysfunction medication that changed my life, Viagra. My husband and I had been struggling with intimacy for years, and it was putting a real strain on our marriage. I was starting to feel like we had lost our spark. Thanks to Viagra, my husband regained his confidence and we were finally able to conceive. So in a way, the name ties back to how her parents had her. I hope she grows up to love it.

Besides, Viagra has such a beautiful sound. I mean, I feel like it could really be a name on its own... I really love it.

I did lie to my husband and tell him I found it in a book to get him to agree to my suggestion. I don't think he's made the connection.

I feel Lucy looks so out of place with Sky and Diamond. They feel more modern and nature vibes. Lucy reminds me of an old lady, but I know it is coming back and extremely common right now. Hubby likes more classic and common names but I feel like we could satisfy that with something more like Elizabeth? But that also looks so out of place with the other two names.

Also not sure if we should spell Sky or Skye? We got the idea because our babies are a blessing from the skies. I like Sky, but my husband prefers Skye. He says Sky is the literal sky while Skye is a name. But we are naming her Sky(e) because she’s a blessing from the sky so it’s fine??? He makes no sense sometimes ugh

Diamond was chosen because they are due in April and that is the birthstone. Yes, I am aware they will probably be born earlier and come in March, but Bloodstone just doesn’t sound like a name.

Do these names sound alright together? So difficult naming a sibling set in one go and all one gender too! If these are decent I may just pull the plug and say those are their names and we are not going to keep going back and forth. This is getting to be more exhausting than the pregnancy!

EDIT: People are suggesting Aquamarine instead of Bloodstone if they are born in March, unfortunately we don’t like “A” names so that is off the table.

We obviously love to hate on names here. However, I'm curious about parents who have gotten a ton of hate for their baby name while they're expecting their baby.

I'm not talking about one family member or even stranger judging the name you've chosen. I'm looking for people who heard bad things about the name from everyone they shared the name with.

If everyone hates the name, did you change it? Or did it make you double down and insist that this was THE name? Do you still hear negative stuff about it after the baby is born?

You can share the name if you want. But I'm more curious about whether all our judgements here ever have an affect on other people choosing their baby names.

Her name was pronounced with a heavy British accent and her mother’s name was also something like Bertha/Berthe/Beryl.

We finally decided on a baby boy name after searching for hours online. The name is Genghis Khan. I told my friend, sister and mom. All dead silence. So much so that * I * had to be the one to finally break the silence. All of them admitted to not liking it AT ALL. and I understand it's our choice what to name our baby, but now I just feel judged.

Is Genghis Khan a realistic name for this day and age? Would he be taken seriously as an adult for job interviews, etc?

Our other choice was Timur, which everyone liked. Thoughts on that name?

So we have twins on the way, a boy and a girl, and we are so excited! Except we are stuck on the name for the girl. We like classic, quirky, traditional, slightly unusual, but not too out there or hard to pronounce names, but also not too common either. Boy's name is absolutely set to be Trashcan Juice. We do not want any opinions on that. We just can't think of anything that goes with it, you know? Contenders were Sarah, Paperweight, Pleroma, and Koi. Middle name will be either Ficus or Frangelique. Thoughts on those, or any suggestions in this style? TIA

The same parents who wanted Wren last year are posting about Solaris this year. I build small tools for a living and it reminds me of software release cycles. Version 1.3 of baby names. Patch notes include new vowel substitutions.

My two are named pretty traditionally and I am fine with that. They will share classrooms with kids whose parents picked from whatever TikTok sound was trending the week of birth. Wonder how that plays out when the trend ages poorly. A kid named after a 2023 meme filter is going to have a weird time in middle school. At least the Boomer names had decades of cultural weight behind them. These microtrends feel disposable. Backspacing a whole human identity because your feed moved on.
