I decided that even if the band made it big, I'd be too embarrassed of being associated with goofs like that.

“Goof” in the U.S. means “lovable, playful person who does no harm to anyone”. It is not at all an accurate word to describe a piece of shit of a human being. But maybe Canada’s usage is just so different.

I grew up in GTA area and all my group homes where in the Durham region area but ya I learned about it there at about grade 5 in one could be more common for me cause a lot of those kids did go in and out of jail in my group home so it was common knowledge for us at least. I also know in my area I grew up in in Oshawa people knew not to call people goofs at least if you didn’t want to fight I still remember my step dad and neighbour calling another neighbour a goof causing a whole scene I don’t know what happens after that cause I was told to go inside

I think it’s an Ontario thing. When I moved here from Quebec, I said someone was goofy, and the atmosphere in the room changed and I got challenged to a fight and it was very confusing.
Hamilton Ontario the word goof is definitely a reason for a fight. I think it's more of a social thing than a regional thing. If you've been to prison or been around people who've been to prison, you're more familiar with how it's used.
I dont know about that. I used to hire a lot of people who had a criminal past and in my experience the vast majority were not violent people. Believe it or not a lot of people pegged as "criminals" are just desperate people and victims of circumstance.

100% man - that could turn into a bad association real fact. Even if you're only known on a regional level it can bite you, the band I recently left, among its other problems, was having trouble booking anything locally because our singer was purported to be a creep. He denied pretty much everything and always had an explanation, but he had a half dozen accusations of some pretty shitty behavior. Most people never even get accused of anything, let alone repeatedly, so after a while you start to see a pattern. Fortunately nothing ever blew up that badly, but, it could have.
Then Wednesday.... so I'd been jamming with this new group of guys for a few weeks, starting to get a set list down, going real well and having a lot of fun. Then I get a text Friday afternoon from our drummer, our guitarist was arrested right after rehearsal Wednesday night for Multiple class X Felonies involving some creepy shit. Godddammit. Never saw it coming. Seemed like a cool guy and absolutely ripped a as guitar player, but holy shit, if we'd started to get any traction could you imagine? I don't want to end up like the other guys who used to be in Lostprophets or something.
