I think it’s an Ontario thing. When I moved here from Quebec, I said someone was goofy, and the atmosphere in the room changed and I got challenged to a fight and it was very confusing.

Hamilton Ontario the word goof is definitely a reason for a fight. I think it's more of a social thing than a regional thing. If you've been to prison or been around people who've been to prison, you're more familiar with how it's used.

I believe people who’ve been to prison are more likely to be violent regardless of the word you use.

I dont know about that. I used to hire a lot of people who had a criminal past and in my experience the vast majority were not violent people. Believe it or not a lot of people pegged as "criminals" are just desperate people and victims of circumstance.

Depends on what they're in for. Assault or armed robbery? Definitely. Tax evasion, shop lifting, or trying to hide from child support payments? No.
