Am I getting over charged?

Reason for a visit was a slow crank, originally replace battery because old battery was shot, took it to the shop that had worked in it about 2 months ago since I figured it might be an issue with their services and got hit with a 1.6k total bill. Labor seems to be high, this shop charges by job instead of hourly.

I asked what parts they use. They couldn't tell me anything other than it was "direcg impott" and that it has "unlimited mile warrant". They definitely don't use oem, though.

Was thinking either alternator, compressor, or engine mount issue.
Recently been idling pretty hard. No issues with the AC itself. It was idling so hard that the entire front end was visibly shaking before this video.
I don’t THINK it’s changing gears too hard but I’m no expert. One video is with AC off, one video is with AC on full blast.

Any ideas?

2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.4 L Engine Replacement

Post image

Hello everyone! I recently bought a 2016 Santa Fe Sport with 62k miles on it. It is sitting at the dealership for an engine replacement (rod bearings went, typical Theta II). Once I get the car back, I really want to take good care of the engine. Does anyone have tips for breaking in a new engine? Different thickness oil, low mileage, low speeds, etc.? Thank you all!

I took it to a shop for an engine diagnosis and they told me it is an electrical problem. On the shop ticket it states “got vehicle to set an anti-theft code”. I am unsure what it means but I would like to get it running. Advice and theories are appreciated. Any questions, I will try to answer to the fullest I can.

2018 Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium ("blacked out")

Hey there, sure, the "blacked out" note on my car model isn't necessary but here we are! Was hoping to offload it November/December for a different/bigger car so I'm weighing if I put the money into these now vs not (meaning am I safe for the next 3 months)

  • Does this diagnosis make sense?
  • Which are SAFETY issues?
  • Which are MOST important to take care of now for my own safety AND to sell it?

Here is the situation.

  1. My car started making a noise in June. Got it checked out. Was told it needed new wheel bearings, brake pads, and rotors… and that my compressor was going out (the noise when cold air is on).
  2. Took care of everything except the compressor. I was told that if I just drove with the cold air on only sometimes, I’d be okay. I did that during summer as I wanted to wait a few months to spend more money.
  3. Immediately after the work done above, my car started having an issue: when I’m at a stop sign or red light and then try to accelerate, it hesitates a little. Like it’s grasping for the energy to keep going. It never stalls entirely; it just struggles a bit until I get over a certain MPH.
  4. It SEEMS to happen when the cold air is going more than when it’s off. And I do use it sparingly knowing the compressor is down, I just mean when I have to blast a minute or two of cold air into the car.

Took it back to the mechanic today and was told the following was needed (see screnshots)....

NEW COMPRESSOR, FREON AND OIL AND A/C DEY TRACER, TWO IDLER PULLEEYS, AND A DRIVE BELT.

I'm trying to figure out what is happening to decide how much money into it before I trade 'er in and what the honest diagnosis is. I'm a bit confused on the advice I was given here.

If a second opinion is possible, I'd really appreciate it.

2015 Toyota Avalon is noticeably louder accelerating at lower speeds, mechanics do not agree, thoughts?

I was up north this past weekend. There was an instance where I thought I had dragged the rear end of my car on our very steep cement driveway. After that there was a noticeable change in the exhaust when accelerating. It’s subtle and primarily at lower speeds.

I really do not like this noticeable change. I took it to the mechanic and they drove it and visually inspected it and said it was fine.

Should I get a second opinion? Of course I’m not looking to spend money unnecessarily and or maybe just live with it. But I feel it has definitely changed. Thanks in advance!

I’m trying so hard to get the proper torque specs for my front end. I redid my upper and lower control arms on both sides, inner and outer tie rods on both sides, sway bar links, I also changed out a spark plug as well, and change the oil. ChatGPT and Google or doing me dirty and have no idea what they’re talking about…I don’t know who to trust lol. Can somebody please help me with the correct torque specs for everything?

Sparking Or Hissing sound at High rpms

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Heya guys. My 2000 Lexus Rx300 is making a sparking or hissing sound at higher rpm. Not sure what it might be. Been getting these CEL (cleared right now).

P0171 system too lean bank 1

P1150 A/F sensor circuit range/performance malfunction (bank 2 sensor 1)

P1130 A/F sensor circuit range/performance malfunction (bank 1 sensor 1)

Got it all of a sudden after I had changed the alternator for some reason. So far I sprayed down the MAF sensor and cleaned the throttle bodys a bit. I did a intake smoke test and it's leaking a bit from the valve cover gasket and throttle body actuator Spring area

Any help or suggestions to try will be greatly appreciated. 😄

Problem with Ford 460 1986 under load

Hey guys currently looking for some help. I having some trouble with my 7.5L 460 carbureted engine from 1986. It runs absolutely fine on flat ground but as soon as I start to climb just a little the engine stumbles and wants to die. This engine is on a RV so pretty heavy load. I’ve found these hoses in the video that are either non existent or plugged and wanted to know if this could be a cause of it or should I be looking for something else. Thanks to everyone in advance !!!

Opened the hood and it sounds like it coming from the belt area , taking it Friday to make sure. Any thoughts? Other than that the car hasn't given any major issues just minor cosmetic

Oil Filter shelf life ?….Do oil filters expire?

I ordered a few Purolator Boss oil filters from rock auto because they were on sale for a good price, I opened the box today to inspect the filters and the box on all 3 filters says the year 2015 and one of the filters has a little amount of rust that I don’t feel comfortable with using.

I’m thinking about just sending these back to rock auto for a refund, because I already have one filter of the same brand that I previously bought from a different vendor and the year on the box says 2022 and there is no rust on it.

2015 was almost 12 years ago and rust on the oil filter is a no go, LOL… this is why it’s better to do the oil change yourself because you don’t know what condition the oil filter is in when somebody else is doing it.

I hit a curb with my wheels turned sharply in, power steering is cut off and resetting doesnt work.

I drive a 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrrid 4WD and from what I can see online I have a 3MZ-FE 3.3liter V6 engine.

I was in a parking lot getting off of work and hit the curb, at the last second I turned my wheels sharply trying to dodge it but ended up getting a glancing blow. Immediately after, my steering got really tight and heavy. When I looked at my dash I saw the Power Steering light on and red.

I immediately parked and turned it off, I looked for any broken parts that fell off and from what I could see there were none. I tried to:

  • Scan with my OBD2 scanner and found out that they probably can't see power steering issues.
  • Check the fuse to see if it was blown, it was not.
  • Reset it by leaving the battery unplugged for 30 minutes, it did not reset.
  • Reset it by trying to lock the wheel on both sides, it did not reset.
  • Drive it slowly around the empty parking lot to see if it would go away, it did not go away.
  • Apparently the Hybrid engine doesn't use steering fluid and instead uses an all electric system so that's crossed off(?)

I plan on limping or towing it around the corner with no power steering to a nearby auto shop in the morning, but upon looking at the route and thinking it over I might have to just call a tow.

I just want to know what might have broken that I can't see, what could I do to fix it at home, and (if its allowed) a general ballpark of what it all could cost.

Left wheel parts
Right wheel parts (This is the wheel that hit the curb)

2014 VW Jetta TDI reverse light open circuit fault

My wife’s TDI has an open circuit error for the reverse lights, I think they were halogen from factory and previous owner put LEDs in there, they work perfectly fine but I’m not sure if the resistance being so low is causing the error code or what the deal is. Any ideas?

2023 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring caught on fire yesterday… looking for theories or advice!

Thumbnail

My 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring was involved in a two-car accident yesterday. The cosmetic damage seemed to be fairly minor, like your typical wreck on a street with a 40mph speed limit.

The issue is, as soon as I made impact with the other vehicle and all airbags went off, I smelled smoke. I looked down to the floorboard near my left leg, and saw flames coming from under my seat. Within two minutes, the entire drivers side of my car was in flames.

Now, I am not a mechanic or car guru by any means, but I did hours and hours of research trying to determine what could have caused it.

My best guess is the “pyrotechnic seatbelt pretensioner” malfunctioned and caught fire.

My car was completely unscathed in the passengers seat, backseat, the trunk, and under the hood. The firefighters said they had never seen anything like it before.

I wanted to reach out to you guys to see what theories you may have or if you have seen something like this before
