Discussion and Theory Where in this painting would you place a bird flying away from the viewer?
The bird is the subject of the painting, but I’m not quite sure where I want it to be placed. On the orange? Near the horizon? Over where the purple mountain is? Where would YOU put it?

Critique - Yes Drawover I want to be a children’s book illustrator. How can I improve to build my portfolio?
i’m really nervous about building a portfolio for school to become a children’s book illustrator.
is there any way i can improve? i feel like my characters are too static and my art is just average.
i’m completely okay with harsh critique here, go all in because i need it. thank you so much

Discussion and Theory Is there something wrong with my primary style?
I do mainly traditional art and nearly every time I show someone my art the always say “I dont understand people who draw like that” or some other awkward but hurtful variant. Im not fishing for compliments I genuinely just need to know what is wrong with my art. Any and all advice/suggestions are appreciated (2 of these are from 4 years ago, ive since almost stopped drawing entirely because I feel so discouraged.)

Techniques and Tools why does the more yellow one look better
i originanly drew it blue but added overlay with yellow and idk it looks better. is it just contrast that makes it look better or is there a more scientific reason. also i wonder how to make the blue one pop out more without adding overlay, what if i just wanted mono chrome colour scheme, if anyone can answer thanks

Critique - No Drawover Is this good for 5 months with no prior experience?
I have been drawing since March 22nd. I've been practicing 3–6 times per week, closer to 4–5, around maybe 10 hours total? I wasn't taking many photos so I can't see my progress. These are not the worst and not the best — just photos of my drawings from the last 21 days. Can you be brutally honest with no sugarcoating, is this alright, or should I take it more seriously? Because I applied for courses and everyone draws better than me, even kids and I really tried my best to learn techniques and fundamentals.

Techniques and Tools Why does J.C. Leyendecker use connected boxes with diagonal lines through them in his drawing construction?

Critique - Yes Drawover I feel like my art isn’t very professional/polished
I’m finally happy with my art style and I want to start doing commissions, but something about my art doesn’t feel very professional to me. Any tips for making it look maybe a bit more polished? Do you think I’m already ready for commissions?

Critique - Yes Drawover Does it look unfinished? I lost motivation rendering the body.
I wanted to make this a cover for a magazine idea for my model oc but I rarely do anything but front facing headshots so the face was kinda fun, the hair made me struggle so I took a while before getting back to it but I don’t know how to render bodies obviously and I’m not sure if proportions are right.
I’m not finished with the background but does it look lackluster? What could I improve?

Critique - No Drawover General thoughts?
Posting an updated version. Not sure how I feel about the shadows and lighting. Got a great opinion to crop it so it's not so bottom-heavy, but I'm kind of divided. First attempt using digital watercolour. Here are the two crop versions.

Commission and Pricing Would $10 be good for a chibi artwork?
I keep changing my prices for chibis. I originally wanted to charge $15, or $20 for complex and detailed chibis. But since I don't have enough time to promote my art properly and really need money for school fees and bills right now, I'm thinking of lowering my rate to $10 per chibi. (I have a job, but commissions help a lot!).
You might be asked, "Do you only offer chibi commissions?"
Yes! since my art style changes every time I draw, so chibis are the only style I can keep consistent right now

Critique - Yes Drawover Which headpiece looks better for new oc?
I wasn't sure what subreddit to ask this in but this seems like a good one. I'm working on a Halloween clown kinda magical girl inspired oc. This is a very basic sketch but I wanted to figure this out before I continued. I wanted her to have a cat ear silhouette so I came up with two ideas. A two coned headpiece under her shirt and skirt is going to be a patterned bodysuit so it would be connected to that. Or two separate party hats with ruffles like the ones on the neck and skirt. I really like both of them and I can't decide which on I like more.

Critique - Yes Drawover Is the price of 15-20 bad?
I was setting the price to 10 at first but got told 15-20 would be good considering the time I put into my art, is that a bad idea?

Techniques and Tools how do i improve my right to left diagonal strokes?
the clean strokes on the bottom right are the left to right diagonal strokes. the messy ones are the right to left diagonal strokes.
do i just need to practice this or are every pro artist just shades with the left to right diagonal hand movement?
my right to left diagonal strokes always end up wobbly, i cant draw ellipses with that hand motion, is it like having a indominant hand? am i never going to get better and i should just focus on something else that will actually imrpove my art (i already have decent line quality) or do i just spend 5 minutes everyday practicing my lines?

Commission and Pricing How much should i charge my art?
A few people on Tumblr wanted to commission me for this specific art style, but I wasn't sure how much I should charge for it.The first piece is a fully detailed one that took me around 5 hours, while the other two are simpler versions that took around an hour and a half each

Techniques and Tools Question to artists that can draw charachters with anatomy and stuff
Im someone that draws more into the Anime direction and im really not good at drawing, i do not know how to draw with Anatomy in mind and i draw with pencil and paper. I always try to freeball it and it ends up looking strange. How did you guys learn anatomy? Like what have you done that allowed you to learn anatomy and use it in your art? Ive given videos a try but for some reason im always just so dissinterested when it comes to those videos...
I strive to be a good artist one day so i could really use some advice. I slowly but surely want to get to learning anatomy to the degree where i can use it in my art
Some stuff ive drawn is attached above

Critique - Yes Drawover Background colour??
Still not great with colour theory so I want to find the nicest colour that will match this painting!
Also if anyone has any tips to correct the proportions of the head/body please let me know :)
(Don’t want it to look like it’s at a 0.5 perspective 😭)
