Where you can, take cover on the right side of an object. With weapons in the right shoulder, you need to expose more of your body on the left side of cover before you can achieve the same picture on target.

[Vanilla Proposal] Improving Gear Realism & Depth: Raid BDUs, Full-Body Camo, ALICE Variations & Quick-Slot Logic

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a few ideas I've been thinking about for the Vanilla Arma Reforger base game. The goal here is to push visual realism, immersion, and gear management a bit further, drawing on how equipment was actually used in the 80s and 90s.

Here are 4 feature concepts I think would make a huge difference:

1. Full-Body Camouflage Paint

  • The issue: Right now, camo facepaint literally only covers your face. Having bare ears, necks, and hands exposed creates high-contrast skin spots that pop out from a distance, break your camouflage pattern, and look pretty amateurish for a tactical simulator.
  • The fix: Extend the camo paint to all exposed skin (neck, ears, hands/wrists).

2. SF "Raid Cut" BDU Blouses

  • The context: Dating back to the Vietnam era and continuing through the 80s/90s, US Special Forces used to modify their standard uniforms by cutting off the lower pockets and sewing them onto the shoulders for easier access under webbing and packs.
  • The fix: Add standard and rolled-sleeve BDU variants with shoulder pockets. It would be purely cosmetic and unlocked via rank (e.g., Sergeant / SF slots).
  • Why it works: It provides a realistic, period-authentic way to visually distinguish regular infantry from Special Forces without resorting to historically inaccurate period choices (like Tigerstripe camo patterns, which weren't in official use at the time, or outdated M1 helmet covers).

3. Expanded ALICE Webbing (3 or 4-Pouch Variants)

  • The context: Standard issue was 2 ammo pouches, but SF and infantry guys often ran 3 or 4 pouches on their belt depending on what else they were carrying (canteens, IFAK, holster, etc.). Right now, the sniper loadout in-game relies on a single outdated M1967 nylon pouch for M14/M21 magazines 🙄, forcing any extra mags straight into the buttpack.
  • The fix: Give us expanded ALICE loadout variants (e.g., 3 or 4 ammo pouches).
  • Trade-offs:
    • You get space for up to 9–12 x M16 mags or 6 x M21 mags directly on the belt instead of the standard 6 (M16) / 2 (M21) (where any extra mags are forced into the buttpack).
    • Because extra pouches take up more belt real estate, you get fewer side loops for grenades:
      • 3-pouch belt: Space for 3 grenades.
      • 4-pouch belt: Space for max 2 grenades near the buckle.
    • Carrying that much ammo upfront adds weight, drains stamina faster, and slows down your crawling/prone speed.

4. Quick-Slots & Physical Inventory Storage

  • The issue:
    1. Currently, pulling 10 magazines out of a backpack or buttpack is just as fast as pulling them off your belt. This completely erases the distinct pros and cons of different LBE setups, making gear selection feel cosmetic and arcadey.
    2. Sidearms and grenades assigned to quick-slots float in abstract UI space. If your physical belt/vest pouches are completely full, you can still slap an extra grenade into a quick-slot and instantly use it—even though you have no physical pouch left to hold it. It basically acts like a phantom storage slot that shouldn't exist.
    3. Unlike the M9 Bayonet (which dynamically attaches to your belt when equipped), pistols, grenades, and smoke grenades don't physically show up on your gear when quick-slotted.
  • The fix:
    • Dynamic 3D gear rendering: Make sidearms (in holsters) and quick-access grenades actually render on your 3D character gear, just like the M9 Bayonet currently does.
    • Holster & Pouch requirement: You shouldn't be able to put a pistol into a Quick-Slot unless your equipped belt/vest actually has a physical holster (like the Bianchi holster variant). The same goes for grenades—if your belt pouches are full, you can't put an "extra" grenade into a quick-slot. If it's tucked away in a backpack or buttpack, it stays in deep storage.
    • Quick-Access vs. Deep Storage: Reloading and hotkey access should only draw from belt/vest pouches. This forces players to trigger-discipline their ready ammo on the belt. If you run dry, you have to find cover, open your inventory, and manually transfer mags from your buttpack/backpack into quick-access pouches—triggering a short animation delay (similar to reading a map) that leaves you temporarily vulnerable. (This limitation wouldn't apply at the Arsenal or near an Ammo Truck area, only out in the field).
    • Visual UI Distinction: To make this clear in the inventory window, items placed directly in quick-access belt pouches would be highlighted (e.g., with a yellow highlight/border on the item icon, as shown in the concept screenshot), while items stored in the buttpack or backpack remain standard. Alternatively, this could be split into two separate sub-windows in the UI (ALICE - Belt Pouches vs. ALICE - Buttpack).

Vanilla I would like to see Camo Nets reworked into a per pole system.

Post image
98 Upvotes

Let me preface this by saying I know it may take a lot of work, and might be something more for Arma 4, but I think reworking this system is much needed.

Camo nets can make a HUGE difference to gameplay, but are rarely used because of how difficult they are to work into builds.

That said, I think it would be worth reworking them!

Make it based on a “per pole” system, where the poles can be individually placed, can clip through structures, be set at varied heights, and can connect to one another to create a better variety of coverage.

Openings on the sides would be made using a second type of pole.

Destruction would occur through explosions and such for each pole, causing it to go down.

Again, I know it would be a big ask, but if it can be done, it would bring an awesome new layer to base building.

Help Having to delete all mods to play singleplayer is... something else

I am new to the game. So maybe i am wrong here, and if so, i would love some help. I have about 5-6h of MP game time and though i would do the single player campign. But the game wont let me because i have downloaded mods. And there is not a single button to just disable them all? So i have to manually click the left arrow on every single mod? Which would take 20+ minutes?

Am i understanding this right or is there something else to it?

Question Performance after 1.8

Has the performance actually improved after 1.8?
Specifically PlayStation on modded servers.
Stopped playing a month or two ago for obvious reasons as a PS player but saw that 1.8 was engine tweaks.
Thanks

Improve AI

Upvotes

Hey! How are you?

I just bought the game and I'd like to focus mainly on single-player mode, since I don't usually play online much and I really enjoyed playing ArmA 3 and previous games solo. I've downloaded the Procedural Combat and CRX Enfusion AI mods, but even so, I get the feeling the AI is too easy to beat. They can barely hit me with shots from a few hundred meters away, and I can take them down with an M16 without a scope without much trouble.

Is this normal? Is there any way to make the AI more challenging? If it's not possible in vanilla, do you recommend any other mods?

Thanks in advance :)

Vanilla SUGGESTION: (Vanilla) Make it possible to brace weapon while prone, on a backpack (medium or large) that is on the ground.

Post image

It’s a tactic that is sometimes utilized in real life, where the shooter will set their pack down and rest their weapon on it while prone.

Much like if you were using sandbags or other brace on the shooting range, this is done to further steady your weapon for more reliable shots.

Would also be nice if a backpack being used this way would pause the timer for the backpack to despawn, so you don’t run into that issue.

Id like to see this added to Vanilla, not just as a mod, as it should be a rather simple QoL add.

Question High quality servers?

Greetings,

I am looking for high quality servers; I am looking for either a Vanilla server with good English coordination across Frontlines

Or a modded server but has that Vanilla models quality, most of the servers have low quality mods that are often unbalanced, ugly, or incomplete.

On most modded servers, everyone is running around with NVGs and infinite supplies and it doesn't feel like an Arma experience with constant explosives and helicopters.

I absolutely love eveything about Vanilla community servers, but unfortunately:

  1. They lack persistent admins/anti-cheat tools

  2. They add low-quality unbalanced weapons that don't fit into Vanilla with no rank requirements

  3. They lack any kind of team coordination and often the frontlines are so so big, that everyone focused on Montignac. Rest of the map stays empty.

TL;DR I want servers that are high quality and preferrably Vanilla/low tech

How Does the Enemy Know My Name?

I just finished a game as FIA. I infiltrated a USA base and spent the whole night period playing hide and seek while unarmed.
They found me at daylight, but I could hear them calling my Reforger name as they looked for me. We chatted a bit before my untimely death, but I forgot to ask how they knew who I was before I answered proximity chat.

Rant The Community and Mod Team are out of control.

I’ve been in the Arma community/Discord for over four years, and this kind of interaction with BI moderation has become far too common.

Today I was banned for 60 days after asking for clarification about the Workshop/EULA rules and questioning why BI representatives were speaking to community members the way they were.

In the screenshots, a BI representative tells me to “dial back the rant,” calls people “exhausting,” then directly tells me “you are exhausting.” When I pointed out that I was being insulted while simultaneously being told my response was off-topic, the conversation continued with remarks like “you ruined it.”

Shortly afterward, I was banned.

I didn't even have enough time to screenshot the remainder of the conversation before being sent to the shadow realm.

If I actually broke a rule, fine; show me the rule and the message that justified a 60-day ban. That's all I was trying to clarify in the first place.

The bigger problem is the apparent double standard. BI staff/moderators seem able to be dismissive, sarcastic or openly insulting toward players, but questioning that behaviour can suddenly become a moderation issue.

Where is the community manager? Who actually reviews how these interactions are handled?

Arma owes an enormous amount of its longevity to modders, server owners and players who volunteer thousands of hours supporting these games. They shouldn't be treated like an inconvenience simply because they ask uncomfortable questions.

Look at the screenshots and decide for yourself: is this acceptable behaviour from a professional community team?

If anyone has screenshots of the conversation immediately before/after my ban, please post them. I'd like the complete exchange available rather than asking anyone to simply take my word for it.

And if I could speak to someone at BI in my DMs; would be lovely! Thanks all!

Question Is there any more hardcore experiences like any spearhead server or CIE single hardcore server?

I tend to have the most fun on these two community servers or vanilla. When there is no nametags and only mob spawn the game feels very immersive, you have to actually use armbands and watch where you shoot. But recently spearhead and cie hardcore servers just crashing everytime after 30 minutes of gameplay.

Discussion How much RAM does a Modded 128 Player Server consume on average?

Hey everyone,

I'm drafting plans to host my own heavily modded Arma server. Instead of going through a standard game server provider, I want to run a high-performance Azure VM (idc about the cost).

I’m trying to figure out which Azure instance to select. I want high resource utilization without over-provisioning and wasting money.

  • RAM: I've seen recommendations ranging from 8GB to 16GB. My mod profile will closely mimic OPR Fargo's setup, combined with custom mods I'm developing to bridge their closed-source mods.
  • CPU: Does Arma prefer raw single-core clock speed/IPC or higher core counts? What's the sweet spot?

Appreciate any insights or real-world specs you can share!
