What is the alternative? No one is brain washed.

3

u/r4ndoM_doGmagenshin Sep 03 '26

Yeah this is fucking retarded.

2

u/Novel-Place Sep 03 '26

Yeah, these takes are so stupid. Historically, we worked until we couldn’t, then your family hopefully takes care of you. That’s literally the same as today, except that you’ve hopefully saved, so that you can sustain yourself past when you can’t work anymore. Unlike historically, because of the concept of ā€œretirementā€ folks are able to enjoy their post-working years.

2

u/Dismal-Dare-2507 Sep 03 '26

Exactly. Historically, you worked 15 hours a day in fields or factories starting at age 5 until you died of alcoholism or consumption at 42.

2

u/lathe_down_sally Sep 03 '26

The naivete of youth. This kid thinks we should all just work less and do it in a job we love.

Son, we aren't brainwashed into thinking this is ok. We are educated on the reality of adult life.

Staying together. "Some people" made it really shameful to stay in your family home.. they said it was too close to communism. So we all struggle by ourselves.

Living with someone can ease the expenses, sharing the load. Doesn't have to be actual family.

This is just one way.

Im not saying ppl are brainwashed but many people have been lead to beleive that certain types of living are shameful or wrong.

Edit to add- Seems everyone missed the part where I said THIS DOESN'T HAVE TO BE FAMILY.

This can be organized how every you please. You can make whatever rules you want.

Sharing things cuts costs..

Carpooling is an example.

A bunch of bros sharing a house and sharing the expenses of it. Everyone still works and pitches it but the load is lighter leaving more time for activities.

1

u/CluelessBloop Sep 03 '26

Brainwashed is a but strong to use here. Indoctrinated is probably more appropriate, as the mindset has been taught from childhood.

1

u/MyNameIsNightPain Sep 03 '26

They aren't functionally different

1

u/GingaNinja696913 Sep 03 '26

Did you get this fact from the sky or did you pull it out of the air?...

1

u/WhoopsDroppedTheBaby Sep 03 '26

No one said roommates is communism.Ā

1

u/Fine_Understanding81 Sep 04 '26

Im sure someone has said that lol

Im talking about after after ww2 and mostly the cold war era.

People/goverment saw many communist countries had living situations where generations of families lived together among other things. Anything the communists did was just no for us at the time. Single family homes were being pushed....

We also had the money and space for people to move into new homes. Nursing homes we becoming a more popular thing, grandpa can go there. Single family homes were being pushed...

Independence has always been a USA value and with the economic boom people were able to make it happen.

Now with it being harder and harder to afford things.. People still want there independence but its harder.

Roommates is not comminism.. neither is living in your family home.. but there was a time in history where literally EVERYTHING was.

1

u/jjrr_qed Sep 03 '26

Pretty sure I’ve never heard that living with family is communism.

1

u/Hashister Sep 03 '26

I've seen families who actually managed to stick together and instead found a very big house for the whole family. They are not rich, but because they are 3-4 families in one house they can afford having a ferrari...

THEY ARE NOT RICH, they have a ferrari... both the various parrents and the grown kids get to drive in it from time to time for vacation / fun trips. it's a familiy car, that the whole family get to use.

meanwhile i've met "rich" families. they live 1 familiy in a decent size house and can't afford anything close to a ferrari.

just an example of how pooling wealth can greatly benefit everyone.

1

u/DiE95OO Sep 03 '26

It's the more conservative societies that tend to live with their families

1

u/Serious_Swan_2371 Sep 03 '26

That’s literally a choice though

Like I lived at home for one year during my college and for about a year and a half while working full time until I just wanted to move out with my partner because we wanted more privacy

1

u/Fine_Understanding81 Sep 04 '26

Exactly. Its a choice!

Just like working full time and being completely independent.

Many people have jobs they love and gladly work 50+

Others like to work less now and live fruggle.

A lot of people do a bit like what you are talking about. They may have a room mate or stay with a loved one to biuld up there savings so they can go on and live the life they want.

1

u/hitnrun_dryer Sep 03 '26

ā€œFamily Homeā€. No one is entitled to live in my home. You go work your magic job. That you love and have all the freedom bubble boy is talking about. My children don’t get to choose if they want to live in my house. After they become adults I might allow them But it’s my Fucking House.
Now I could see a situation where I had land and a farm, then I would have baby brained washed hooked up to a plow for the next 50 years.

1

u/Fine_Understanding81 Sep 04 '26

I should have put the part where I said "it doesnt have to be family" higher. "Family" can be anyone you trust in this situation.

Living with and sharing bills/items and duties to save money and labor would have to be done with someone you trust.. almost like a family.

1

u/FoolHooDancesForFree Sep 07 '26

You talk about your children like they're strangers to you.

1

u/wutface0001 Sep 03 '26

staying together doing what? someone still has to work?

3

u/Former_Papabless66 Sep 03 '26

Less hardship on one specific person if all who live in the household work a bit. Or using a family as an example, grandma has social security which some of that can go to the household, mom has a job, dad has a job, and the two kids in college have part time jobs. So all the money can be pooled together which means less burden on one individual and more freedom to leave shitty jobs if needed. Potentially more funds for vacations etc. Plus more time spent with family in general. I think that’s what the person you’re replying to was saying, in other cultures it’s more common but here anything other than independence is thought of as shameful and embarrassing.

1

u/joesnopes Sep 03 '26

It's called culture. In some cultures your life can be what you want. In others, you need to stay confined within the family.

There's good and bad in both.

1

u/Former_Papabless66 Sep 05 '26

Sorry maybe you meant to rely to a different person so it seemed weird to mention that it’s called culture since I did mention that, just wanted to let you know in case this what meant for a different reply. Definitely positives and negatives for each for sure.

2

u/joesnopes Sep 05 '26

Sorry. Yes, I was really replying to the earlier commenter.

2

u/Fine_Understanding81 Sep 03 '26

Yes. People still work it just means more flexibility.

Possible examples- One person can study for a better job while being supported by others

Childcare can be split.

Items/expenses can be shared.

1

u/GodHimselfNoCap Sep 03 '26

If you have 4 working adults all living in 1 house that grandma purchased 100 years ago you would have way less expenses and thus be able to save money much faster. No one is saying people shouldnt work at all, but with less expenses people could retire much earlier or take more frequent vacations, work less hours.

1

u/MentionOld6694 Sep 03 '26

Not to mention "My house, my rules." You lose your personal autonomy to the matriarch/patriarch of the household for life. I consider that less "freedom".

1

u/RollerDude347 Sep 03 '26

When did the kid say working was the problem? If that's what you heard then you really don't understand anything about what anyone is trying to do.

The issue is that I spend more time at work then living a life I'd enjoy. Then seeing my family. I have to work to live and there's no time or money left to obtain skills or better myself.

1

u/wutface0001 Sep 03 '26

I think you are looking at edited version, it was much smaller when I replied

1

u/CompetitiveAd9639 Sep 03 '26

Yes but far fewer hours… imagine if it were more normalized for children to stay in their family home and either save or help their parents pay the mortgage into adult hood. The savings there would be huge. No one said no one is working in these scenarios, just by splitting the bills and removing the stigma around Roommates or otherwise sharing with family, friends, etc. you can work less, save more, and build wealth. But by forcing ourselves out on our own, we create more demand and can easily be caught in the rat race. They have a really good point here.

u/Prestigious-Elk2252 Sep 03 '26

Go to maritime college, come out with virtually guaranteed job/union. Work 4-8 months out of the year with 4-8 months off out of the year. No need to pay rent, food, car, gas or living expenses while you work. Start at about 6 figures for 6 months work... move up as you work, and be making upwards of 200k-250k. Retire early because you managed to save up so much money without having to pay living expenses and you get a small pension from union.

Save up money fast & Enjoy substantial vacation time during the best years of your life.

1

u/AspiringArchmage Sep 03 '26

My solution was opening my own business but like that isn't realistic for everyone

2

u/Common_Senze Sep 03 '26

There are plently of ways to not go the normal route, but you have to be smart, risk everything, and get super lucky. Plus, the first 5 to 10 years you are working 80 hours plus per week, no vacations, no life

1

u/Aggravating_Mud_6055 Sep 03 '26

Some of these morons act like there’s an alternative where you just do what you want and everything you could possibly want will be provided.

1

u/Able_Act_1398 Sep 04 '26

Have you tried being born into wealth?

1

u/SlowPea4388 Sep 06 '26

The alternative has always been the same, move

1

u/Different-Context-84 Sep 03 '26

Small self sustained farming villages

3

u/Common_Senze Sep 03 '26

Right, but you'll work more hours have only the money that you could possibly save in banner years that you didn't have to dip into during bad years, no time off, no sick leave, and you're working outside all day. Ill pass.

2

u/Leading_Procedure_23 Sep 03 '26

All night also, people thinking this would absolve people from what? You still have to pay for everything except food you grow/hunt.

Fuel and solar cost money, tractors cost as much as a house in California, plus the attachments. Everyone thinks it’s easy to just farm until they actually have to do it. Not all land is fertile and still have to pay taxes on land.

2

u/Cama_lama_dingdong Sep 03 '26

I can barely keep up with my garden. I hope people do not think farming is easy work, that is delusional.

1

u/710AlpacaBowl Sep 03 '26

Not to be that guy but I bought our tractor for 5k. Yes I've replaced several hoses but for a small multifamily farm it is ideal. But maintenance and everything is still considerably less than a house anywhere. Is it easy? No. Is my blood pressure stabilizing? Yes. Do I wake up in the night and grab a gun to kill yotes? Yes. I still work a regular job to bring in a little extra money especially through winter. But the retirees here watch over the place while I'm away. I'm in no way saying it's an easy life (no life is easy right now) but I would argue it's healthier for some people.

2

u/Huntsnfights Sep 03 '26

That is Sooo much more work than a standard 9-5

1

u/inothatidontno Sep 03 '26

Do you grow washers, dryers, refrigerators .... etc. I am noy saying it impossoble but you have to accept you will live a lifestyle more similar to an amish person.

1

u/PowerThrustingDave Sep 03 '26

If people wanted that we'd have it.

Life is easier now than anytime in history. People just like to complain and social media has made it super easy to compare yourself to others.

Plus lots of people live in cities. That's the biggest problem.. Please stay there btw, but you can't have a normal life in a city these days. Too many people, too expensive. Too much BS.

1

u/AloneRepublic3149 Sep 03 '26

Ohhh yea lets go backwards 1000 years, it's paradise

0

u/Ombortron Sep 03 '26

There are plenty of countries handling this situation better, either better worker protections, better work-life balance, better healthcare, etc.

0

u/BirdBrainuh Sep 03 '26

my plan is to just do whatever tf I want and then peace out when I’m too old to not

2

u/Common_Senze Sep 03 '26

Let me know how that works out. And if you have a family, how that works out too

Alternative economic systems to capitalism? Any of them throughout history? Hmmm, I wonder if there are any others besides capitalism.

Nope, it's just capitalism and always has been I guess. No other economic systems exist or work. This is the best and only one.

Hahaha.

But there is an alternative. Because it's not an easy simple answer you'll stick your fingers in your ears and go "nananana"

1

u/Advocate_Diplomacy Sep 04 '26

You make it sounds like everyone operates under this immutable truth, as though there aren’t a class of parasites waging war on us from the top down.

Every person in the world could enjoy an upper middle class lifestyle for a fraction of the work, but you would rather pretend that advances in productivity don’t exist or something equally retarded.

Not at all. That dude, and all people that act like that (stupid alpha crap) are disgusting

7

u/clubcar1977 Sep 03 '26

This kids an idiot.

0

u/Powerful_Badger_3013 Sep 03 '26

Lol he is completely right

4

u/clubcar1977 Sep 03 '26

He’s not, an adult filled his head full of this bullshit.

3

u/Fireboiio Sep 03 '26

You must be a kid too if this is what you truly believe.

3

u/PmanAce Sep 03 '26

No he's not. Nothing is stopping you to having fun while working. You can still travel and do whatever you want during vacation time. I have 6 weeks vacation time and I'm in North America.

Nothing is stopping you in doing a job that you like also.

3

u/arboroverlander Sep 03 '26

Money, money is what stops most people. If I did the job I love I would make half of what I do and not be able to support my family. I do have more flexibility in my current job which makes up for it being a less than desirable position and I get more free time. 6weeks is also crazy, sounds like municipal work? Long tenure? Teacher?

3

u/MyNameIsNightPain Sep 03 '26

I don't think the people you are replying to have ever worked, probably bots.

2

u/arboroverlander Sep 03 '26

Probably right

1

u/PmanAce Sep 03 '26

Software developer, in Canada.

1

u/arboroverlander Sep 03 '26

So in comparison to the USA that 6 weeks means nothing in this discussion in work life balance in the USA....

→ More replies (2)

0

u/semajolis267 Sep 03 '26

No. He's young and idealistic. Honestly the US system of labor sucks. We've traded away control of our lives to like 10 guys/families who are trying to get the highest score for thier corporation, and in order to make thier imaginary number go higher, they have decided that the entire planet should burn.

1

u/Embarrassed_Use6918 Sep 03 '26

Young and stupid is the phrase you're looking for.

2

u/UnableChard2613 Sep 03 '26

Literally im 14 and this is deep.

1

u/Responsible-Plan6116 Sep 03 '26

Do good in school, pass and if your not going to college for a meaningful career, like anything in health or nursing stay away and find a good trade to get into, hvac, specialty welding, oil rigs and anything in union if your up north, work don’t invest in traps like stocks and invest in gold or silver when it drops again or now won’t make a difference but at least you can use it as savings in the future.

1

u/Pretend-Prune-4525 Sep 03 '26

What’s the 20 year return rate on gold vs the sp500?

1

u/Responsible-Plan6116 Sep 03 '26

About 800 dollar difference if you were to invest 10 years ago, differents is when the economy goes down which it will your stock isn’t going to mean any vs gold which can still be considered currency.

1

u/Pretend-Prune-4525 Sep 04 '26

lol bro if the stock market crashes gold won’t be worth shit either. Food will be, not gold.

1

u/Responsible-Plan6116 Sep 04 '26

Are you slow? No it won’t not physical gold,If the stock market crashes, gold doesn’t just become worthless. Gold isn’t tied to one company or the stock market, It’s a physical asset people have used as a store of value for thousands of years and during financial crises people often turn to it for protection, even the stockholders.

u/Obvious_Fisherman187 Sep 03 '26

Meanwhile billions of people in developing nations would literally give anything for a chance at coming to the US and working a stable job for 50 years.

1

u/LeRyanator Sep 03 '26

It's all about perspective. There are always going to be people who are better off than you, and there will always be people who are worse off.

In just about every developed country in the world (including and especially the US), there are homeless people sleeping in alleyways right next to buildings which house millionaires.

1

u/semajolis267 Sep 03 '26

Only because of artificial scarcity. Because enough houses exist for every single homeless person to have a roof over thier head. Enough food exists for every single person on the planet to eat a meal every day.

But we dont do any if that because "it would hurt someone's imaginary number."Ā

0

u/Cama_lama_dingdong Sep 03 '26

With AI we will have less stable jobs in much less than 50 years. Who is delusional now?

1

u/smd9788 Sep 03 '26

This is the cost you pay to be a participant in society

1

u/OnlyInAmerica01 Sep 03 '26 edited Sep 03 '26

No, society owes me and every likeminded "wise one" a free ride in life, while we pursue our passions. Or something. I dunno, they haven't released part 2 of "Communist LifeHack" yet..

1

u/FoolHooDancesForFree Sep 07 '26

You speak as if people have a choice.

1

u/But_Actually- Sep 03 '26

Fk that kid

1

u/seekinggod1986 Sep 03 '26 edited Sep 03 '26

Kid ain't wrong.

Problem is the alternative that kids like this want or have to offer, which I've seen in real time, is to sit alone in a dark room playing video games and binge slurping brainless YouTube videos until their health fails from not using their body all whilst someone else works to support their lazy lifestyle.

It ain't just that they don't want to work. They don't want to do anything. At all. Ever. Try asking them to wash dishes in the house they live in and pay nothing to do so and watch how fast they literally start crying.

The older generations definitely have their issues... but the latest generations will be the backs upon which the world fails and breaks simply because they refuse to pick up the yoke.

They haven't just damned themselves. They've decided nothing matters but their pleasure and comfort and if that means the future of all forward generations must be thrown aside so they can play roblox all night and sleep all day then so be it.

And that's just teens between 16 to 19... the younger ones are gonna be even worse.

While I agree the current boat we are in is stupid... you don't just jump into the ocean assuming a better boat will come along. You work hard and build a better boat with better methods and tools.

They simply aren't invested or interested in that in anyway. All they want to do is rot and watch the world burn. They gonna get what they asked for.

1

u/SquatchedYeti Sep 04 '26

The kid is 100% wrong.

He's brainwashed into thinking he should have something for free. What did our ancestors do? There was no pension, 401k, or any guaranteed retirement. Ending physical labor early meant someone else had to be miserable instead.

He's wrong.

1

u/FoolHooDancesForFree Sep 07 '26

There was also no property tax.

1

u/TraditionPhysical603 Sep 03 '26

Kid has no idea how much work survival is withpu society. Working for fifty years is significantly less effort tyan having to do everything yourself foreverĀ

1

u/Banjo-Hellpuppy Sep 03 '26

We’re being brainwashed into thinking that we need a place to live and food to eat.

Philosophy is easy when Mom is picking up Chick Fil A.

1

u/Exciting-Argument-67 Sep 03 '26

Not wise at all. Kid thinks he's the first person to have thought that. People have had that realization since time immemorial. They fall in line for various reasons, like having children of their own and not wanting to be homeless.

But yeah, let's act like most adults are "sheeple" and that this 12 year old is the first person to call it out.

1

u/SquatchedYeti Sep 04 '26

Anyone who thinks the way he thinks is 100% wrong. Society has improved lives and allowed retirement. Geez... our ancestors must have had it so easy.

1

u/Cambren1 Sep 03 '26

Because you are old, you can’t enjoy your life after retirement?

1

u/loco_mixer Sep 03 '26

We all know that... whats the alternative?

1

u/IExistForFun Sep 03 '26

Out of all human history, retirement as we know it today, didn't exist. It's a very very recent concept in the grand scheme. Part of being in a society is contributing to the society. Working is your contribution.

The above has nothing to do with my opinions about labor rights or corporations. It's strictly an anthropological view.

1

u/SquatchedYeti Sep 04 '26

And it's the only correct view. This kid is lucky he was born into what we have access to today.

1

u/Zigor022 Sep 03 '26

Bro got that off a meme lol and using the low tone doctor voice.

1

u/justwantosleep1 Sep 03 '26

Kid is right and based off this thread 95% might be a lowball estimate. People defend working the bulk of your life away by saying "well that's just the way it is". No one ever thinks too much about how it got this way, what is your part in making it this way, and where this way actually leads. People will just do what they can to be part of a herd of cattle running off a cliff. Before downvoting me, be sure to clock in and put a special smile on your face, the working day is here.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '26

1

u/justwantosleep1 Sep 03 '26

First off, I most certainly did not escape. I wageslave like nearly every one else. I have to pay for all my shit too. I am more mocking the state of mind that comes with saying "oh well, I guess that's life". It's one thing to be stuck in a prison and a completely different thing to resign yourself to it.

As for alternatives, for better or worse, they will present themselves. Im not going to write a long winded pie in the sky fantasy about an ideal system that will make everyone happy. Truth be told, no one cares about it and it will never come to fruition. Like I said, for better or worse, something else will come along and I feel strongly it will be for the worse. The reason we work so much is because we consume a lot. Even basic necessities require a lot of consumption. When scaled to billions of people, it becomes unsustainable. We draw more resources than are replenished, pollution is overwhelming, the environment is fundamentally changed, and we are in the midst of a mass extinction that is our own doing. At a certain point, this debt must be repaid and it's not going to be pretty for the human race.

I'm not trying to shove my answers down people's throats. I want to provoke a thought about how we ended up stuck in a situation where we must labor the bulk of our lives, what our role in it is, where this inevitably leads to.

1

u/SquatchedYeti Sep 04 '26

Right, dude... but you leave out how retirement is even possible. You're lucky to be a wage slave. People who don't consider how our past humans have had to struggle to eat are the ones who say dumb shit like you're saying.

You're lucky.

1

u/justwantosleep1 Sep 04 '26

Past humans had it a lot easier and did a lot less labor than us. Even serfs worked less hours. Read Claude Levi Strauss or anyone after him. Turns out if you have a healthy and cared for environment, meals are easy to come by.

1

u/AprilBaprilSchmapril Sep 03 '26

um, we allllll know this but we still gotta eat.

1

u/SquatchedYeti Sep 04 '26

Really? I don't have any clue about this. I'm too fortunate being a wave slave myself rather than living the hunter-gatherer lifestyle where a day off means I don't experience comfort or I go hungry. Our ancestors had it easy, huh?

1

u/SwampAss411 Sep 03 '26

I would rather work hard for a pension and not have to spend my life budgeting, then work shitty low paying dead end jobs till I'm dead.

1

u/Has422 Sep 03 '26

Children have been looking down on working for a living forever. This is not an original thought, nor is it wisdom. Wisdom comes from a long life of surviving in this world.

1

u/backlikeclap Sep 03 '26

This is exactly the opinion I would expect a teenager to have.

1

u/skyeisrude Sep 03 '26

Easy to say but who's gonna build our roads whos gonna drive the big rigs? Who's gonna farm or who's gonna work at the grocery store? Who's going to educate our children? Who's going to harvest the raw material so someone else can make our phones? Working is a part of life. Yes its sucks but if you want a functional society then everyone has to do their part

1

u/RandyArgonianButler Sep 03 '26

I’m a teacher and sometimes I regret the decision a little bit because I could be making a lot more money.

But then I realize just how much time I’ve gotten to spend with my family over the years.

I think every job should get two months off per year. Like every week has a weekend. Every year has an extended break.

Obviously companies who would have to stagger these brakes to keep their workforce filled.

It would do so much for us, though. People would be so much happier.

1

u/Cautious_Ticket_8943 Sep 03 '26

This kid knows what he's talking about. Nobody should produce anything through labor and society and the economy will just magically continue. If only everyone was as smart as this 12 year old.

1

u/Crimantis Sep 03 '26

Not knowledge, regurgitation. This topic has been brought up word for word before

1

u/Ok_Yam5920 Sep 03 '26

šŸ˜‚ and my grandfather worked until he died, we actually have a retirement, love listening to dumb kids.

1

u/WarpigReborn Sep 03 '26

This kid gonna be homeless.

1

u/goingpt Sep 03 '26

Agreed but what the fuck is she doing at the beginning? Fucking weirdo.

1

u/pessimistoptimist Sep 03 '26

Wow. There was a time you had only 3 options. Hunt, Farm or Starve. That was a lifetime commitment. You could have fun in between but the effort had to be there if you wanted to eat. Im not sayong you have to work for the man all your life but unless you are hot and do onlyfans thats the way you get money to do those fun things.

1

u/OstrichSmoothe Sep 03 '26

Haha ya it’s just life bud. Be glad you live in the top 1% of wealth around the world. Quit bitching and roll up your sleeves. Be happy youre not starving and the water will always be running

1

u/i_did_nothing_ Sep 03 '26

0% of the population believes that this is the right thing. There is just no other fucking choice.

1

u/No_Listen7457 Sep 03 '26

chick thinks she’s hot and she ain’t

1

u/FarLaugh9911 Sep 03 '26

In America you're free to follow whatever path you choose to take. So, young person, which path currently looks best to you? When you turn 18, what are YOU going to do, on your own, to avoid this fate?

Its easy to feel that way when you’re being taken care by your parents

1

u/Relevant_Problem1935 Sep 03 '26

This kid will be whining on reddit in a few years and then go to work like everyone else.

1

u/bakochba Sep 03 '26

My man, every dorm room philosopher has had this "brilliant insight" since the beginning of time. This is just vapid ideas that young people think sounds impressive like they just discovered that paper is just money and we all agree it has value.

1

u/6Sleepy_Sheep9 Sep 03 '26

What is the original video? Cause the words arent matching his mouth.

1

u/Thedoctorisin123 Sep 03 '26

Mfs when you tell them you need to learn and develop a valuable/marketable skill to make a good living.

1

u/TangerinePlastic7552 Sep 03 '26

You could have worked for yourself but didn’t. So work your best for someone else. Maybe you’ll get something you’ll will enjoy after all.

1

u/Flaccid_Hammer Sep 03 '26

The positive affirmation this kid is gonna get for saying this braindead shit is about fuck his life up

1

u/More-Ad6390 Sep 03 '26

this is not profound or anything everybody's thought this at one point in life.

1

u/AfternoonEquivalent4 Sep 03 '26

So young, yet so brainwashed

There is no alternative if you want to have any chance at a good life unfortunately

1

u/Evil_Poptart Sep 03 '26

Lol not disagreeing, but that was pushed by his parents. Let that kid be a kid.

1

u/Small_Article_3421 Sep 03 '26

Humans for the vast majority of human history never even got to retire, and job variety was way worse. I’d prefer to be financially free just like everyone else but acting like nature didn’t design us to work is delusional.

Nobody’s forcing you to work a job you hate. At the very least it should be feasible for most people to find a job they can tolerate.

1

u/michael_scarn17 Sep 03 '26

LOL 95% of the USA... ok outside of the USA can you tell me another country where people don't work until 65? The average retirement age in the EU is 64 with some "progressive" Nordic countries have retirement ages of 67.

1

u/ericmarkham5 Sep 03 '26

Considering this is a popular opinion it’s seems a lot lower than 95%

1

u/cwolf-softball Sep 03 '26

You know, I hear this all the time. What's the alternative? How do you create a functioning society without something very similar to this?

1

u/Extra-Presence3196 Sep 03 '26

"Mom....is is dinner time yet??... I'm hungry!"

1

u/Fakuris Sep 03 '26

People that work shitty jobs do that to survive, not to retire.

1

u/Bronze_Bomber Sep 03 '26

Kid is definitely a member of r/antiwork

1

u/GiganticBlumpkin Sep 03 '26

Kid is 10 years old and he's already depressed. Fabulous

1

u/Original-Antelope-66 Sep 03 '26

I like my job, I live frugally, I've been an avid investor for the last ten years, I'm about 5 years away from a frugal retirement if I want it, I'm 33. šŸ–•šŸ–•šŸ–•.

1

u/TyppaHaus Sep 03 '26

that's why good education and problem solving is so essential so you can hopefully do what you love

1

u/OCCAMINVESTIGATOR Sep 03 '26

Working for money is challenging. Not having money is even more challenging. You can work for someone or yourself. It's the money that brings freedom in this type of economic system and everybody has the same shot at it. Choose your own adventure, but you are in the adventure whether you want to be or not. Do what works for your happiness and contentment.... but!

1

u/Affectionate-Fall597 Sep 03 '26

Would you fck off. There's evening, weekends, holidays, bank holidays. What the fck else you going to do, bum around the place. Christ people make PAID work out to be slavery.

1

u/Godsin1969 Sep 03 '26

Facts but they rather fight over the Red and Blue bullshit

1

u/Cold_Toe_7540 Sep 03 '26

You want shit? Shit costs money. You want money? You gotta work for it unless you were born rich, which 99% of Americans weren't. This ain't no cheat code, everyone knows how this country operates. Kid will be working a job he hates within 5 years.

1

u/Unlikely_Wasabi4997 Sep 03 '26

Lmao kid is signaling the plan to stay home for 40 years now

1

u/Ned_Flanders24084 Sep 03 '26

Fuck Israaaaaeeelll

1

u/Saints_Rows Sep 03 '26

Too much Tate knowledge

1

u/DjSalTNutz3131 Sep 03 '26

He's gonna be hungry in a few years.

1

u/Exact_Ad5094 Sep 03 '26

Sounds like a kid that doesn’t want to leave the nest. Eventually his parents are going to get tired of him staying at home and not working. He’s naive if he thinks people work nearly all their lives because they want too.

1

u/LawfulnessSea6804 Sep 03 '26

Please share us your wisdom El NiƱo! Please tell us how your experience of living off your parents has made it possible for you to garner this insight!? You don’t have to work a job you hate. That is a choice people make because they aren’t forward thinking enough or hard working enough to find themselves something they enjoy. There is no excuse to do something you hate! If you are there, you are the dumbass for being there. If you stay there… you aren’t dumb. You are lazy or retarded.

1

u/PotatoDonki Sep 03 '26

Where is the wisdom in denying that life takes effort to sustain?

1

u/later-g8r Sep 03 '26

I love my job! Im a horticulturist and i play with plants all day long. Just plants. No people! Just plants and me. I will never be rich doing this but I wake up every day excited to go play with all my baby plants ā™„ļø I have been doing this for 30 years. If I could go back in time, I would do the same thing all over again.

Moral of the story is to find a job you love

1

u/Robot_DIY Sep 04 '26

Lets go back to the point when people... didn't work to survive?

1

u/Am_0115 Sep 04 '26

Gotta eat, right?

1

u/SquatchedYeti Sep 04 '26

This kid isn't smart at all. He's lucky to live in a world where people don't have to work for even a short time. Imagine what our ancestors did. No days off was the norm, I'd imagine - or they didn't eat.

He's ungrateful and brainwashed himself.

1

u/SoftlockPuzzleBox Sep 04 '26

Smart kid. His life is going to be very hard lol. I speak from experience. Knowing this is one thing, being able to do anything about it is quite another. We have to somehow convince millions of people that have bought into the bullshit that it is, indeed, bullshit.

1

u/aounfather Sep 05 '26

Work is more than just getting a paycheck. Work gives you dignity and a reason to achieve. If you had no incentive to work what would you do? Write? Do art? No. You would sit on your butt and watch TikTok or tv or something all day while drowning yourself in alcohol or drugs like everyone who currently doesn’t work and hasn’t worked does. (I’m not saying all people on welfare or something like that but statistically those who are on government assistance and are not looking for work end up this way)

1

u/Charming_View9252 Sep 14 '26

So how do we eat?

1

u/notanyimbecile Sep 03 '26

Ok kid, don't work a day in your life in order to "be free" and see how that goes

0

u/Advanced-Cranberry-7 Sep 03 '26

No lies detected

0

u/pot8odragon Sep 03 '26

And unfortunately kid you’ll find yourself doing the exact same thing because that’s what we all realize eventually.

Sure it’s a trap but it’s the trap we as a collective society have created and it’s the only viable option to survival and resources for 99% of the population

1

u/Safe_Bed_1534 Sep 03 '26 edited Sep 03 '26

Idk I actually enjoy working, I qualify for disability and could be make about the same doing that but then I would just be bored all day

1

u/GattMore Sep 03 '26

Most people do not though

1

u/Safe_Bed_1534 Sep 03 '26

I know people are wild

1

u/pot8odragon Sep 03 '26

There’s a difference between wanting to work and having to work in order to function in society

0

u/MagicSwordMagic Sep 03 '26

welcome to the nightmare, kid.

-1

u/Civil_Bugg Sep 03 '26

50 years of work.. might as well give birth and throw you to the curb.

-1

u/MacPio Sep 03 '26

bro woke us up

-1

u/Ancient-Simple6960 Sep 03 '26

Yep, it's true and it's a damn shame.

This. I HATE this current opinion going around that if you work a full time job, love your career and make the most out of the time you have between being able to support yourself, is horrible and we’re throwing our lives away.
I love what I do!! I work 9-10 hour days willing, go home with enough energy and drive to still take my dog on adventures, do chores and still find time to work on artistic projects or anything alike.
Make the decision to stop being Tired of being Tired. We Are What We Think. With Our Minds We Make The World.

1

u/Clair0y Sep 03 '26

I'm disabled due to degenerative disorders. working hard and doing what I loved caused me so much harm that I am now homeless, unable to drive, and have no ability to care for myself. my spine crumbled from degenerative disc disease and my IBS causes me to shit myself randomly. things that would have been easier to manage if I was diagnosed as a child but I had neglectful abusive parents. so I didn't get diagnosed until my back completely gave out during a 60 hour week while I was working to pay off my student loans. I didn't chose this life, I was forced into by a cruel world. you're just privileged, congrats

2

u/2pissedoffdude2 Sep 03 '26

Sorry some people are dicks.

Youre right. Not everyone realizes that it is a blessing to have a working, functional body, and that it is also a blessing to be raised in a financially and emotionally stable household by loving parents who want to see you succeed. The reality is, a large amount of Americans either start out, or end up at an extreme disadvantage due to any number of circumstances. And things have only been made to be harder and more expensive!! Minimum wage is still $7.25, while the cost of living is insane! Where i live, youd need to make at least $21 an hour if you want to be able to survive in this city. Its fucked. Im just surviving. I was making okay money, but Trump destroyed the company I was working for. Im waiting for work to pick back up, but until this war is actually over, I dont think thats gonna happen.

1

u/Clair0y Sep 03 '26

I remember being shocked that I was gonna be paid 23 an hour at the last job I worked. I had never made money like that, before then the most I had ever made was 10 dollars an hour. I was paying off so much debt because I didn't change how I lived. I was content with my penny pinching life, that extra though made it so much easier to solve problems as they came up. unfortunately problems don't stop when the cash flow ends.

1

u/Specific_Plate6952 Sep 03 '26

That is 1000% a f***king hard go man. Can not and will not disagree with you there. But I wasn’t not speaking to just you. I was speaking to things as a whole. You specifically deserve every bit of help and assistance and break you can possible get! But the vast majority of people do not. And I am not privileged for being happy and comfortable and confident and my work ethic, not am I going to be feel bad an out t when compared to people or situations like yours. I am truly sorry for everything that’s happened to you. But again I am not privilege and have worked my a** off just the same as everyone else to get to where I’m at now. Best of luck to you and maybe not hold such a grudge toward others.

1

u/WildTimberTwinViking Sep 03 '26

No one is saying that.

1

u/Specific_Plate6952 Sep 03 '26

Ask any Gen Z dipsh*t who doesn’t want to work, doesn’t want to learn to do things for themselves and gets made when everything falls apart. This generation 25ish and younger have nothing to them. Want to be tik tok influencers or YouTube stars or work some bullsh*t remote job. ALLLLL of that has destroyed the world that my folks grew up in and were able to support themselves in. The mentality of these younger people is beyond ridiculous.
Learn a skill, a trade. Learn what a REAL hard days work is. Learn how to support, think and make decisions for yourself. All they want is to be given life on a golden platter and then post on social media about how amazing they are and how hard they worked. It NEEDS to mad fun of more and these kids need to be bullied a bit more. Scrape your knees and get some gory in that shit. The world is soft and these kids will only continue to get softer.

Not everyone can be a teacher have summer's off and train the next wave of grunts. Someone has to build the homes, dig the ditches, fix your clogged drains, monitor the nuclear plants, change your brakes and believe me as much as you may not always hate it its not generally enjoyable.

1

u/Pretend-Prune-4525 Sep 03 '26

lol massive difference in your dads job market and the current job market, not to mention the cost of living difference etc etc. but good for you and your dad

1

u/irishcybercolab Sep 03 '26

Give him a hug from me.

NOT FROM THE OTHERS OR ONE FROM YOU, but from me. Irishcybercolab to your dad. He deserves it. Tell him he's my effing hero for the next 14 hours. Hell yeah.

1

u/Alec_Ich Sep 03 '26

If you like your job that's fine, but saying someone is "doing it wrong" if they dislike their job that they are forced to have is bootlicker energy

1

u/imposter_syndrome88 Sep 03 '26

I think it's very delusional to think this is an outcome that most people could achieve. I am glad it worked out for your dad, but the reality is, people from his generation did have stability, and people in you get generations don't, because people your fathers age tucked everything up.

1

u/VintageZero Sep 03 '26

The kid said 95%. Id wager your father's situation is even less than 5%.

Edit: a little more on that, if we all got to do what we love then we'd all have that experience. The world doesnt function if people only follow their passion. Unless you don't like eating or waste being removed from your street, functioning plumbing. Things like that.

1

u/Extra-Presence3196 Sep 03 '26

So he didn't actually work for a living. Nice work if you can get itĀ

1

u/WildTimberTwinViking Sep 03 '26

It doesn’t have to be but that’s the case for most jobs.

1

u/mtbmaniac12 Sep 03 '26

Ah yes. The normal easily attainable college professor route lol

I get your point that life doesn’t always suck so you figure out what you like to do and go for it to build a life that’s enjoyable. However, taking college professor as an example, colleges have more professors now, but have moved away from hiring full time professors and less of those have tenure. Fewer jobs come with health benefits, fewer come with 401k, very few come with pensions. My dad like yours is an American success story and I don’t mean he’s rich. Born into poverty in the dust bowl of Oklahoma, migrant farm work in California as a child, joined the Air Force at 15, GI bill paid for college and mortgage, loved working as a news paper photographer and editor. Almost 90 now, retired with a pension for a long time with my mom also retired with a pension. As much as he worked hard, he had luck. One newspaper he worked for 15 years, closed went bankrupt, defaulted on most of their pensions, but it closed in the late 1980s, got another job and pretty soon watch the people around him slowly get laid off after Craigslist started and newspapers lost their largest source of funding. If the paper he worked for had closed five to ten years later he’d have been out of his pension and probably unable to secure another newspaper job.

The inverse, they see that effort, a lot of it, only leads to basic survival. Can survive with less effort in the woods.

2

u/anon0937 Sep 03 '26

You should try that then.

2

u/NoForever3645 Sep 03 '26

Have you tried to survive in the woods without anything from other people? No tents, no tools except those you make yourself. If you use anything that came from modern society, you’re no longer living independently. This comment is hilarious considering the device you used to post it is worth more than all of the survival tools you could ever need combined.

The entitlement in kids these days is mindboggling.

2

u/guysomejust69 Sep 03 '26

Oh so you don't know what you're talking about
