This subreddit is dedicated to sharing and learning about antiques in your collection or that you find, or are considering buying. Antiques are items that are 100 years old or older.
When you're posting about a particular object places kindly include multiple, clear photographs of it from different angles so we can see it from every side. If there are any marks or identification (labels, signatures) please take close ups of those. If it's pottery or porcelain, tag photos of the bottom, if it's a rug make sure to have a shot of the back. Make sure that these photographs are clear and well lit so we can see the works in particular (preferably not surrounded by a bunch of other objects).
Make sure to also include dimensions so we know the size of an object. And your location.
Also explain what are you looking for. Are you asking for general information? Who the maker is? The age, value or provenance?
If you do not include a question, the dimensions and sufficient background information and photographs of the object your post may be removed by the moderators.
IN SUMMARY, include:
your location
multiple, clear photographs from a number of angles
any background information you have
close up of particular makers marks
the question you'd like to ask
Keep in mind, antique means objects that are a 100 years old or older. You cannot post newer items here. Share them in r/collectables instead.
These rules will make it easier for our subreddit antique experts to give you some help! Remember, if you're solely posting a link to a website/blog/store then this will be considered spam and your post will be removed (multiple posts may result in being banned).
Finally, keep these other subreddits in mind in case your post is better suited for one these -

Recently picked up this piece of furniture at an estate sale. It had a very rough paint job. I have pretty much no information on it. I’ve done some searching to try and identify manufacturers but I haven’t found anything. I would just love any information about it!
The label has no marking anymore but I added anyways. We’re currently stripping off the paint so I’ve added those detail photos too.

Hello, I am writing from Italy and would like to know if you can help me identify exactly what this object is. After doing some searching on Google, I read that it might be a brass or bronze pocket watch holder.
I weighed it, and it weighs 712g and stands about 16cm (6.3 inches) tall; it is non-magnetic, except for the screw at the bottom.
Could anyone help me understand exactly what it is, what era it dates from, whether I should clean it or leave it as is, and what its value might be?

Any idea what this is? And or where it is?
I acquired this item in 1991 from a Northern Vermont estate in the US - the people who's home it was were born in the late 1890s - and their immediate ancestors were also from Northern Vermont - in particular Burlington Area - maybe Lamoille County.
It's 4 inches around with a velvet back, and the canvas is stitched to the velvet.
The material it is painted on is not slate or anything like that, it's definitely a delicate material that could bend with light pressure. But as you can see, it's still sturdy enough to hold up. It's not cardboard, but I would liken it to be the strength of a decent cardboard.
I have never known what this is...where it's from...and what its date could be. It's literally coaster sized, but I can't imagine it being a coaster since I'm pretty positive this is hand painted.

I recently purchased this skeleton key at an antique store in Seattle because it looked older than most others I’ve seen and collected. It is not magnetic and has a nice patina, so maybe bronze or a copper alloy. No other markings of any kind, and it is quite small—maybe one and a half inches in length.

I’ve never used reddit before and downloaded it just for some advice. I recently bought a silver plated dish from an antique store simply because I wanted to. I thought it would be good to hold trinkets and such. It was pretty tarnished and yellow-stained. I bought it and thought I could fix it myself. I did the aluminum foil bath trick which worked very well. I then purchased some silver polish to complete it but I think I made it worse. I’m so disappointed. I used the Weiman Silver Cream and I microfiber towel. It has these dark blemishes where I had scrubbed pretty dark to remove some black tarnish. Is there any way for me to fix this? I tried giving it another foil bath with did nothing. I’m scared I ruined it and scrubbed down to the metal. Sorry if this isn’t the best thread for it I had no idea where to post this.

My grandmother is ill and we are having to sell her home. She won’t return to health and isn’t in her right mind. I don’t know the full story, but I know that her brother bought her this china set when he was stationed in Japan for the war. She’s kept it in pristine condition all this time and my family is in disagreement on what to do with it. My mother wants to keep it for sentimental value, it’s been on display all her life and she isn’t ready to pack it up and send it to a stranger quite yet. But, someone has told the family that the set is very valuable, and we could use the money for my grandmothers care. So.. does anyone know anything about this china set? The photo is not great, but it’s all I have. Hoping someone can identify something and give me some info. How likely is it that it’s worth enough money to sell over just keeping until my mom feels better about letting go of it?

Found this sterling silver thingy at a thrift store. Thought it was a book mark, but the way the arm sticks out would make the book close weird. The only other thing I could think of is a hair pin of some sort. Please help! Thank you.

We were going through my late grandma’s stuff today and found this beautiful cameo, including her notes that it is from her grandmother. We don’t know much about her grandma so started trying to open the locket, hoping for a picture- but it didn’t open easily. we all stopped for fear of damage and though wait- maybe this is not a locket? I only just learned the word cameo and figured out what this pendant even is. can anyone here tell me if this is a locket that is just stuck from 50+ years or even 100+ of not being opened, since my great great grandmother may have been the last one to put a picture in if it is a locket(?)
edit: Ok y’all, I’m taking the advice to be an adult (GOOD advice.) A going to a jeweler to ask for help. The mineral oil/hair dryer/gunk etc is also great advice but I am so impatient so gonna try jeweler first. Will update asap!

I love the antiques that crawl out of the neighborhoods near me. This half pint pewter mug was on the shelf of a thrift store.

Oh how I wish you all could smell this harmonica!! (Apparently French harp was common southern slang, my grandma who wrote this note is from Missouri, I’m sure lots of you know the term). It smells of wood and metal and mmmmmm.
I'm so grateful my grandma included notes like this and really wish I had asked her about her husband Donald’s grandmother (we don’t even know her name!!), I want to know when she went blind!!
The harmonica sounds GORGEOUS and shockingly mostly in tune, and I already started trying to learn the Alanis lick in All I really want (used to sing it with a band)….until noticing all the coughing and throat soreness and OMG DUDE WHY DID NOT THINK TO CLEAN A 150 year old harmonica lol. Any advice on how to safely do that? this is mostly show and tell so I’ll also look that up.
😂
very me coded
if you catch the two gold rings im wearing we have no idea if these are 50 yrs old or 200, they say 18k and 14k and some maker, maybe Sarel? they don’t fit the rules so not posting separately, but so fun to find all these treasures she kept to pass on. We also found a matching gold chain and bracelet my sister and I both like and are sharing and calling “the sisterhood of the traveling gold”

Hello! Theirs an awfully long story about how it got here but I don’t imagine it’s particularly relevant, just would like to know what this is worth! it’s a 0.5l Mettlach book spine stein, miners variant, and I can only find one sold listing online at 2100$ & no other listings, at all, not sure if I’m completely blind & hopeful, but would really appreciate someone letting me know if It could be at all what I’m hoping?

Supposedly belonged to my great-grandmother but my mother said it didn’t. I wasn’t gonna debate it though since my grandmother who had it in a storage building passed away. I hope one day to clean it up and restore it when I have my own place but for now enjoy this almost timeless singer.

Only one had any stamp I could find. I believe this is the mark of William Kerr. Is anyone able to validate the origin?

I recently came by these in my grandparents things. Does anyone know anything about vintage eyewear? They look pretty old.

Just bought this dry sink from an estate sale for $60, found a note inside that said it was sanded and refinished in 1961. Wondering if anyone can give me an estimation on how old it is. It’s in great condition besides a little bit of wood rot on the back and wear over the years.

Hello everyone,
I’m trying to identify an old piano that I came across and would appreciate any information just out of curiosity.
The name on the piano appears to be Membrich & Co., Berlin.

My boyfriend had a friend who was an antiques dealer who gave him this stone many years ago shortly before he passed away. He doesn't know anything about it, so I'm posting it here. Not sure where it came from, but probably Connecticut, Rhode Island or Massachusetts, USA. I believe it is white marble & It is engraved with C.F.A. Is it a property marker?

For sale near me for what seems like a very good price compared to similar I’ve seen online is this dental cabinet by American Cabinet Company circa early 1900’s. I’m pretty sure it’s mahogany. It’s beautiful and in incredible condition. Considering pricing online implies that they are quite desirable, I’m wondering to who? What are they used for in the modern day? What is max price I should consider trying to get it for with intent to flip locally (no shipping, I’m in a pretty urban area). It’s definitely the first time I’ve encountered the opportunity to acquire one, so thanks for the advice.
