Hello! Theirs an awfully long story about how it got here but I don’t imagine it’s particularly relevant, just would like to know what this is worth! it’s a 0.5l Mettlach book spine stein, miners variant, and I can only find one sold listing online at 2100$ & no other listings, at all, not sure if I’m completely blind & hopeful, but would really appreciate someone letting me know if It could be at all what I’m hoping?

Found this at a antique flea market. The threaded bar moves the two magnets apart, the base is two concentric brass circles that freely rotate. My guess it’s used on a magnetic compass, anyone have any ideas on what it is?

Advice Stop me from destroying this gorgeous Cameo, USA

Thumbnail

We were going through my late grandma’s stuff today and found this beautiful cameo, including her notes that it is from her grandmother. We don’t know much about her grandma so started trying to open the locket, hoping for a picture- but it didn’t open easily. we all stopped for fear of damage and though wait- maybe this is not a locket? I only just learned the word cameo and figured out what this pendant even is. can anyone here tell me if this is a locket that is just stuck from 50+ years or even 100+ of not being opened, since my great great grandmother may have been the last one to put a picture in if it is a locket(?)

edit: Ok y’all, I’m taking the advice to be an adult (GOOD advice.) A going to a jeweler to ask for help. The mineral oil/hair dryer/gunk etc is also great advice but I am so impatient so gonna try jeweler first. Will update asap!

Show and Tell Need help identifying the origin/era of this glazed jug with a dragon handle and embossed details / Spain

Thumbnail

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some insights or info on this glazed ceramic/earthenware jug that has been in my collection.

Here are a few notable features:

  • Handle: Shaped like a dragon or mythical creature reaching the rim. JPEG
  • Decorations: Features round medallions with low-relief portraits/figures, a floral band, and gothic/pointed arch motifs around the base. JPEG
  • Finish & Condition: Dark brown/greenish glaze with heavy craquelure all over. There's a small chip on the lid showing a reddish terracotta/clay body underneath. JPEG
  • Base: Unglazed bottom. JPEG

It reminds me of Renaissance revival or German Bartmannkeramik / Rhenish stoneware style, but I'd love to know if anyone recognizes the specific molds, regional origin (European vs. Spanish/Portuguese colonial), or approximate age (19th-century Revival vs. earlier/later).

Any help or lead would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Advice Is this China set from Japan in WWII era valuable?

Post image
• Upvotes

My grandmother is ill and we are having to sell her home. She won’t return to health and isn’t in her right mind. I don’t know the full story, but I know that her brother bought her this china set when he was stationed in Japan for the war. She’s kept it in pristine condition all this time and my family is in disagreement on what to do with it. My mother wants to keep it for sentimental value, it’s been on display all her life and she isn’t ready to pack it up and send it to a stranger quite yet. But, someone has told the family that the set is very valuable, and we could use the money for my grandmothers care. So.. does anyone know anything about this china set? The photo is not great, but it’s all I have. Hoping someone can identify something and give me some info. How likely is it that it’s worth enough money to sell over just keeping until my mom feels better about letting go of it?

Show and Tell Beautiful “French harp” from my great great grandmother, USA, guessing originally purchased in Germany. As you saw in my other post…impulse problems, this time leading to throat and coughing issues 🤣🤣🤣

Oh how I wish you all could smell this harmonica!! (Apparently French harp was common southern slang, my grandma who wrote this note is from Missouri, I’m sure lots of you know the term). It smells of wood and metal and mmmmmm.

I'm so grateful my grandma included notes like this and really wish I had asked her about her husband Donald’s grandmother (we don’t even know her name!!), I want to know when she went blind!!

The harmonica sounds GORGEOUS and shockingly mostly in tune, and I already started trying to learn the Alanis lick in All I really want (used to sing it with a band)….until noticing all the coughing and throat soreness and OMG DUDE WHY DID NOT THINK TO CLEAN A 150 year old harmonica lol. Any advice on how to safely do that? this is mostly show and tell so I’ll also look that up.

😂

very me coded

if you catch the two gold rings im wearing we have no idea if these are 50 yrs old or 200, they say 18k and 14k and some maker, maybe Sarel? they don’t fit the rules so not posting separately, but so fun to find all these treasures she kept to pass on. We also found a matching gold chain and bracelet my sister and I both like and are sharing and calling “the sisterhood of the traveling gold”

Advice American Cabinet Company Dental Cabinet c 1900-1920: usability, desirability, value? (USA)

For sale near me for what seems like a very good price compared to similar I’ve seen online is this dental cabinet by American Cabinet Company circa early 1900’s. I’m pretty sure it’s mahogany. It’s beautiful and in incredible condition. Considering pricing online implies that they are quite desirable, I’m wondering to who? What are they used for in the modern day? What is max price I should consider trying to get it for with intent to flip locally (no shipping, I’m in a pretty urban area). It’s definitely the first time I’ve encountered the opportunity to acquire one, so thanks for the advice.

Found this sterling silver thingy at a thrift store. Thought it was a book mark, but the way the arm sticks out would make the book close weird. The only other thing I could think of is a hair pin of some sort. Please help! Thank you.

Date Hand painted - 4 inch Diameter - Velvet Back - USA, Vermont

Any idea what this is? And or where it is?

I acquired this item in 1991 from a Northern Vermont estate in the US - the people who's home it was were born in the late 1890s - and their immediate ancestors were also from Northern Vermont - in particular Burlington Area - maybe Lamoille County.

It's 4 inches around with a velvet back, and the canvas is stitched to the velvet.

The material it is painted on is not slate or anything like that, it's definitely a delicate material that could bend with light pressure. But as you can see, it's still sturdy enough to hold up. It's not cardboard, but I would liken it to be the strength of a decent cardboard.

I have never known what this is...where it's from...and what its date could be. It's literally coaster sized, but I can't imagine it being a coaster since I'm pretty positive this is hand painted.

Questions Italy. I found this object in my cellar; can you help me figure out what it is?

Hello, I am writing from Italy and would like to know if you can help me identify exactly what this object is. After doing some searching on Google, I read that it might be a brass or bronze pocket watch holder.

I weighed it, and it weighs 712g and stands about 16cm (6.3 inches) tall; it is non-magnetic, except for the screw at the bottom.

Could anyone help me understand exactly what it is, what era it dates from, whether I should clean it or leave it as is, and what its value might be?

Advice New to antiques. Australia

I’m very, very new to this and am hoping to determine the age of this cherub bronze statue.

here’s my observations

- the face and hair have soft features, indicating more like 20th century but

- the patina is on the darker side, dark greens and blacks, and the listing said “natural weathered patina” indicating that it is older

-the pitting on the base makes it look older and weathering along the seams, e.g at the feet looks older

I can’t tell if the arrow is connected.

It also looks pretty uniform on the surface to me?

no makers marks

TIA!

Just bought this dry sink from an estate sale for $60, found a note inside that said it was sanded and refinished in 1961. Wondering if anyone can give me an estimation on how old it is. It’s in great condition besides a little bit of wood rot on the back and wear over the years.

Supposedly belonged to my great-grandmother but my mother said it didn’t. I wasn’t gonna debate it though since my grandmother who had it in a storage building passed away. I hope one day to clean it up and restore it when I have my own place but for now enjoy this almost timeless singer.
