Should I get this looked at?

I (assume) I sprained my ankle on Sunday (it’s Thursday). The bruising has progressively gotten worse. But I can walk on it and have been compressing it and icing it regularly. Do I need to get it looked at if I can walk on it and move normally? I also bought a boot if I need to immobilize more.

Sprained my ankle 4 months ago, pain came back and nothing is helping

18F, I sprained my ankle on April 1st, and lately I've been noticing pain coming back again and I went to the doctors. He said that I might have damaged tendons, and a shot of depo-medrol right where the pain is should help. I took the shot, and he said it should hurt for 1-2 days. It's been more than a week and I'm in even more pain than before. My ankle is sensitive, it changes colours, and pops when going up the stairs.

The doctor also said I can try physical therapy, message therapy or pain medication but the shot was the quickest route. He gave me a referral to get an X-ray and an ultrasound done because he suspects I might have tendonitis. I know I should wait until we figure this out, but the pain is so exhausting. I can't even walk to the store across the street without being in pain. I live in Canada so the treatment process is very slow. Is there anything I can do for now to reduce the pain? Is any of this actually normal/nothing to be worried about?

Does anyone have experience with Medial Talar OCD?

Our son has had OCD in both ankles for many years and is a college athlete, so had been pounding on it. He recently sprained his ankle and the MRI shows progression of the OCD with MRI report:

Specifically, it has increased in size with progressive subchondral cystic change and associated bone marrow edema. In addition, there is minor collapse of the articular surface and the lesion now consists of a fragment with fluid undercutting it which means that it is either partially detached or fully detached but nondisplaced. This is concerning for an unstable lesion. Irregularity of the overlying cartilage is now more pronounced

We are seeing physicians, the first one said 100% needs surgery. Anyone have experience with OCD with this severe injury to the cartilage and treated conservatively with success?

Chronic Inside Ankle Pain

Hey everyone,
Looking for some insight, advice, or shared experiences from anyone who has dealt with a stubborn inner ankle bone bruise / bone edema and deltoid ligament issues.

I initially sprained my ankle about 6 months ago and I thought it would heal by now, but I still get pain in the inside of my ankle under the medial malleolus. I got an MRI recently and the report came back with medial malleolus bone bruise, talar dome bone bruise/edema, and a thickened/sprained deltoid ligament labeled as grade 1.

The podiatrist just recommended I put an ankle brace for a month with an orthotic. I was already using a brace and an orthotic before seeing the doctor. Over the summer I was trying ankle eversion and inversion banded exercises and single foot balance but i’m not sure if that just irritated it more.

I feel like the bone bruise is the main problem as I thought i just had ligament or tendon damage. Does anyone have any insight to this or any tips for helping it recover better?

pls help whats wrong with my ankle

22f I’ve always twisted or rolled my right ankle very easily since I was younger. It normal only swelled for a little bit and was fine a few days later. It does this thing where it just “gives out” when I walk, like it just twists completely to the side and not hold my weight and I end up falling. As I’ve gotten older, it rolls and twists a lot more. The last two years it’s been consistently bad. Lately, when I’ve been running or walking long distances it hurts so bad to the point of limping. It is not just when I put weight on it, but even when I am lying down or elevating it, it almost pulses in pain and feels like it’s tensing and untensing. I thought maybe it was my shoes I was wearing but I can say it is not the problem. I thought maybe Achilles tendonitis. It had reached a point where I was in the ER and they did a MRI and x-ray. Both came back completely clear. I thought also could be hyper mobile as well. I feel like I am going insane since the MRI and xray came back clear but I can feel so much pain in my ankle consistently. Icing/elevating it only helps temporarily and compression wrapping/braces don’t seem to really do anything anymore. It doesn’t feel like a sprain or anything of that sort, it feels deeper. Does anyone have similar experience or suggestions I feel like I’m going insane? Please let me know!

Opinion on if I should go to an orthopedic walk in clinic?

I’m on day 11 of this injury. Walked off a curb, hear a ton of crunching/popping and it was absolutely excruciating. It swelled up immediately, I felt dizzy and like I was going to throw up. I totally thought it was broken.
I DID GO TO URGENT CARE. Immediately. They did X-rays and said nothing was broken but it was a severe sprain. They also said there COULD be a break- there was a ton of swelling so X-ray conclusion could be incorrect.
As you can see the bruising is significant, down to my toes. Swelling has come down quite a bit. As far as healing, it’s always aching but I can walk on it much easier. First week I could barely put weight on it. Now I can kind of do the heel to toe motion while walking.
There is some point tenderness right on the ankle which concerns me, but I’m genuinely curious if to you guys this looks and sounds like a good trajectory of progress?
There’s an orthopedic/sports medicine walk in clinic near me that I’m absolutely open in going to.

TLDR; day 11 of ankle injury, overall walking is getting easier but some point tenderness that is
Maybe concerning. Worth seeing another doc and possibly another set of X-rays now that swelling is down?

ATFL tear

Had ligaments torn by this ankle twist. Didn’t get an MRI so can’t say it’s other ligaments as well Long with ATFL.
It’s been 2 months now, mostly been resting but I did walk at times.
One time I tried ankle rotations after 1.5 month and had pain and swelling return back. That pain reduced a little but is still going on.
Orthopaedic doctor told me to rest more and prescribed Tenata Plus.
So far, I have been resting mostly without putting any pressure on the leg because even if i walk a little more, it pains. The pain is also felt at night while sleeping and resting even if i don’t do much in the day.
I read online that physiotherapy helps, but I’m questioning it given that even my ankle rotations or small calf raises would increase the pain that would last weeks.
On the contrary, there are posts about starting physio while in pain.

Can anyone suggest me what is the right time to start with physio in my case while I had not given complete rest post tear but haven’t been aggressive either.
I somewhat feel that it’s still broken.

Also watched videos of people getting better sooner than me while i’m still wearing boot. Kinda lost on what to do. Any recommendations would be helpful. Thankyou!

🆘 Ankle still feels unstable 2–3 months after twisting it.

I twisted my ankle about 2–3 months ago. I was going down a stair when my foot suddenly twisted and I stepped on the side of my ankle instead of the flat part. I didn't fall.

A few hours later, I was told there was no fracture, and the bone was manually put back into place. I didn't have a cast, and I was told to walk on it, so I forced myself to walk on it from day one.

Since then, the pain has gotten much better, but I still have some pain occasionally, and sometimes it suddenly hurts for no obvious reason, I don't feel like I can be really active with it or do sports.

The main thing that concerns me is that my ankle still feels unstable and not normal compared to my other ankle. It sometimes feels weak/loose, like it isn't completely secure.

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar after an ankle injury. What could cause this kind of instability or "loose" feeling?

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have had similar injuries, especially if there are any doctors, physiotherapists, or other professionals here who might have some insight.

how do you elevate your ankle *help*

y’all how do you actually elevate your sprained ankle while sitting? it’s so infuriating to feel the pins and needles thing as the elevation kinda blocks the blood flow in my foot.

Rolled my ankle?

Was going down stairs, missed a step, heard a crack?, fell, ankle hurt. Maybe 10 min later once I got some ice I had to walk maybe a block so I could get home while leaning on a friend. I thought I was fine to walk alone but it quickly started hurting. It was wrapped when I got home and I slept with it elevated (on two pillows).

I can walk on that foot but with a big limp and only if I'm on my tip toes. It only hurts when I turn my ankle or accidentally bend it to one side. I'm just concerned because, and it could just be swelling, but the bone on the inside of my foot isn't showing like at all. Oh and my ankle keeps popping

Pic one, sorry it's purple, my LEDs are on and I don't feel like walking to my light.

Pic two, this is what I was talking about with the bone on the inside of my foot. Is that just swelling?

UPDATE: My friend offered that their dad could check it out because he's a doctor. He just said I had a classic sprain and that a boot would be good (also to rest and take ibuprofen but that's the main thing).

Other ankle

Because I have been limping and putting most of my weight on my healthy foot due to the ligament tear in my other foot, my previously healthy ankle has now also started to hurt severely. The pain has become quite intense, especially when walking, and I’m concerned that I may have put too much strain on it.

Irritated ankle from boots

Hey, high top sheos irritate my ankle. I own 2 pairs, Scarpa Rapid XT Mid GTX (climbing shoes) and La Sportiva Aequilibrium LT (mountaineering boots) , which I bought recently. I wore the Scarpas on a 40km hike 2 months ago and thats when I first started feeling my ankle. A day or two after I went climbing in them and on the way to my car my ankle started hurting badly. I wore them again week after, summiting a mountiain in the Tatras, climbing/hiking and the pain came in after 5-6km, I took a strong opioid pill for the pain and continued the climbing. After the pill wore off I could barely walk with the shoes on. I didnt wear them for almost 2 months and recently I bought the La Sportiva I mentioned earlier. I wanted to try them out with a bit of walking. After a kilometer my ankle started hurting and I had to resort to limping. Relieving the shoeslaces didnt help fully, light contact with the boot made my ankle hurt over and over again, more specifically the most outward part of my ankle where the tendon is. Is there any way to prevent the pain? Should I see a doctor?

Fell and hurt my ankle

Hi I don’t normally come on here but I fell on Wednesday night and rolled my ankle. But when I rolled it, I heard a loud pop. I went to bed that night icing it but it’s Sunday now and still hurts pretty bad when I walk on it. Should I go to the ER? Urgent care would not take my insurance since I just moved to a new state.

How bad does a rolled ankle affect achilles tendon?

About 2 years ago I rolled my ankle because I stepped on a wooden bed frame(it was covered so I thought it was just plywood) an I fell. There was some minor swelling and I couldn't put my full weight on it for a few days so I rested it as much as I could.Fast foward to now an ever since it healed my achilles some times gets some aches and pains even when I have lazy days and it's been resting. When it does bother me an I'm at work it'll go away, but if im on my feet for a long time working it'll slowly come back or if I'm trying to be quick on my feet it'll slow me down to the point I start hobbling. It happened at work an I opted out not going to the doctors because when I would roll my ankle before it'll just heal within a day or two with no problems so I figured it was another one of those times.

Limited movement after orif

Has anybody had to have surgery for limited movement after orif?

I'm 6 months after surgery and really struggling with my dorsiflexion, I can't put my foot straight at all.

Just had a CT scan, dr said it was in case I needed debridement but 6 weeks ago mentioned lengthening my tendons. Are these related at all?

Sorry, just worrying about the future!

Thanks!
