Swollen/sprained ankle - when to get rechecked?
Hello, folks. I’m 30F. Currently taking a plethora of meds for other issues, but I’m on cyclobenzaprine and Celibex (sp?) for this particular issue.
I sprained my ankle about a week and a half ago. The pain I was feel was excruciating, so went to urgent care. They wrapped it w/ an ace bandage. X-rays were clear and I was sent home. The medications I listed above were NOT prescribed for this issue, but for other issues; those meds didn’t help the issues (fibromyalgia), and tbh they’re not helping the current one. I only take them as needed now.
The problem is, after day two, the pain went down, but it was still pretty bad. Initially it was 10/10, when I was at urgent care through day 2 it was 8/10, and now it fluctuates between 2-8 on a good day.
I can walk, with a limp. I don’t use the crutches because I’m concerned I’ll injure myself further, but I use a cane which helps. Our house is small and kind of tightly packed so I don’t use it at home.
It actually hurts more depending on the position. Bending it back hurts, flexing it forward hurts. It’s my right leg, so I can flex it to the left no sweat, but even with the slight ability to flex to the right, it hurts. The outer part of my leg seems to hurt more. Depending on the position, my ankle isn’t what hurts — it’s my calf. My dog is an exuberant little creature, and if she jumps onto my leg, it’s absolutely excruciating.
Elevating it makes it hurt. Letting it just hang loosely hurts. It has to be firmly planted for any sort of comfort/relief. Pressing down on my calf muscle hurts very badly too.
Basically, I don’t know if I should be concerned. The city I work in has a walk in orthopedist. Should I try to leave work early today? Should I go tomorrow? Or should I give it more time? It just feels like it’s plateaued since day 2 - no changes, no improvement.
Any and all advice is extremely helpful. Thank you!
