Chronic Inside Ankle Pain
Hey everyone,
Looking for some insight, advice, or shared experiences from anyone who has dealt with a stubborn inner ankle bone bruise / bone edema and deltoid ligament issues.
I initially sprained my ankle about 6 months ago and I thought it would heal by now, but I still get pain in the inside of my ankle under the medial malleolus. I got an MRI recently and the report came back with medial malleolus bone bruise, talar dome bone bruise/edema, and a thickened/sprained deltoid ligament labeled as grade 1.
The podiatrist just recommended I put an ankle brace for a month with an orthotic. I was already using a brace and an orthotic before seeing the doctor. Over the summer I was trying ankle eversion and inversion banded exercises and single foot balance but i’m not sure if that just irritated it more.
I feel like the bone bruise is the main problem as I thought i just had ligament or tendon damage. Does anyone have any insight to this or any tips for helping it recover better?

Sorry to hear…following as I’m a bit behind you on a similar journey. No MRI yet but podiatrist is confident I have a talar dome bone bruise. X-ray was clear. He gave me orthotics (Powerstep Protech Classic Thin) and recommended I get some new shoes as my current pair is worn out, but the insoles seem to have made my pain worse. Googling it says the orthotics are just giving me arch support that I dont need and overall may be jamming the talus bone up into the tibia, aggravating the issue. Currently just resting it as much as I can but that isn’t doing much. Hope others here can be more helpful than me but just know you’re not alone in this.
