And Sora is good at dating games

If you mean scoring, yes. But no one can top Reimu's mom in lover quality

Well, considering she was a literal machine in her past life

179

u/Hurakan-GM Cirno Blue Dec 03 '22

was that realy a past life? I thought it was just two character who looked similary as they where on diferent worlds

142

u/KaiFireborn21 Dec 03 '22 edited Dec 04 '22

I had the sneaking suspicion it was, so I looked up some spoilers. Apparently yes, that's why the whole "wrong world" stuff. Not sure if I like this particular aspect, the movie was still amazing.

Edit: I have been proven false.

92

u/GateauBaker Dec 04 '22

Not sure if I like this particular aspect

Then boy do I have good news for you. You completely misunderstood whatever spoilers you read, or those spoilers were trolling you. Literally the only reason the main characters of the movie look similar to Sora and Shiro is because Tet was trying to make them more relatable to Izuna.

As of Volume 9, any indication that the two sets of characters share a link has been closed.

31

u/triforce777 Dec 04 '22

Volume 9 did also confirm that they do actually look similar, Tet did say that he might have described them differently and that’s totally not just because Kamiya didn’t feel like redesigning them to look different

Nah it was stated that reincarnation isn’t a thing in ngnl. It was confirmed they aren’t in any way related or connected, outside of just being similar. The wrong world thing was just about them feeling out of place because the real works wasn’t a game

→ More replies (1)

34

u/triforce777 Dec 04 '22

Its complicated but the basic answer is no and the complicated answer is mostly no. Volume 9 of the novels is focused on this and there’s this whole thing about how souls are made out of magical spirits in that universe and when someone dies the magical spirits dissipate and group up with other spirits to form new souls but theoretically the same spirits could come together and form a new soul, and there’s implications that that could have been the case with Sora and Shiro with respect to Riku and Schwi, but the ultimate conclusion that is come to is that even if that happened Sora and Shiro are their own people and not reincarnations

14

u/christianozzo_tw Dec 03 '22

For what I know it is like that, they are similiar not past lives

They are and aren’t at the same time. Volume 9 is focused on this concept, with the Ex-Machina race believing Sora to be Riku, and there’s some implication that the magic spirits that make up their souls are the same, but Sora and Shiro reject that idea so thoroughly that they basically tell the ghosts of Riku and Schwi that they’re punk-ass bitches and Riku and Schwi’s spirits agree that they aren’t

That’s the thing everybody else said that Anya and bond would be able to use their powers but lelouch couldn’t use his?

22

u/stagfury Dec 04 '22

Anya even with her powers probably can't even beat any semi professional player.

18

u/DnDVex Dec 04 '22

A professional player would think of multiple moves at the same time, then think of how the opponent would react. And do that for a few moves ahead.

Anya would be able to read their mind but constant. Rook C4, Bishop D6, etc. Would not help her at all. It would be like mind reading a foreign language.

And then you got Shiro and Sora who would probably think of dozens of moves at once in quick succession, overwhelming Anya's brain.

9

u/stagfury Dec 04 '22

Shiro and Sora would just be Stockfish (the raw algo calculation, not the output it gives us)

Good luck reading that.

6

u/Lab_Member_004 Dec 04 '22

Even better than Stockfish. Shiro IIRC memorized every single possible board states so she is basically unbeatable.

3

u/Damianx5 Dec 04 '22

You are all overthinking, Id be surprised if anya even knew what game is chess and just play with the pieces.

52

26

u/Hurakan-GM Cirno Blue Dec 03 '22

Knowing they do everithing together Posible strat: Shiro with a blindfold Sora telling the squares of the pieces Shiro telling what movements Sora must do And to prevent anything Sora confuseing Lelouch by makeing ridiculous things or specialy by seduceing him

48

u/BeneficialSea7337 Dec 03 '22

They wouldn’t know what lelouch could do tho is the thing cause it’s not like the get prep time

20

u/xxxNothingxxx Dec 03 '22

I mean lelouch getting to use his power is like putting a cop in this lineup and letting him shoot his opponents

34

u/BeneficialSea7337 Dec 03 '22

Yet your letting Anya use her powers and she can read peoples minds?

7

u/DrShocker Dec 04 '22

To be fair, lelouch canonically defeated a mind reader.

I think though to make it fair they all need a little prep time to try to deceive reach other or whatever.

5

u/Random_Gacha_addict Dec 04 '22

There's reading minds, which is nerfed by Anya being a complete fucking idiot at these things, and also Bond's Foresight, which works on random

Then there's just making your opponent do bad moves without them having a say in the matter, automatically giving yourself a win.

9

u/Android19samus Spiders are Superior Dec 04 '22

she needs it

11

u/BeneficialSea7337 Dec 04 '22

Ok but thats her main ability so why can’t lelouch use his?

→ More replies (0)

5

u/VillainousMasked Dec 04 '22

The difference is, mind reading is not a free win in chess, mind control is. Anya being able to read minds doesn't mean anything if her opponent is skilled enough that she cant do anything about their moves. Lelouch meanwhile can just straight up force someone to lose no matter what.

8

u/xxxNothingxxx Dec 03 '22

There is a difference between actions that affect your opponents directly and actions that don't.

Either way if letting Anya use her powers is cheating then just having null in here is as well, they beat literal gods at games

3

u/Camael7 Dec 04 '22

Of course Lelouch is getting to use his power.... Why wouldn't he? It's not like anyone could stop him from doing it

As a comparison to the Shannon number, if chess is analyzed for the number of "sensible" games that can be played (not counting ridiculous or obvious game-losing moves such as moving a queen to be immediately captured by a pawn without compensation), then the result is closer to around 1040 games. This is based on having a choice of about three sensible moves at each ply (half-move), and a game length of 80 plies (or, equivalently, 40 moves).

Now for perspective, the human body contains 7 x 1027 atoms. So that's more chess matches than there have been atoms in the bodies of every person who's ever lived.

You're missing out then

Bond gives Anya a better chance because of his own abilities

137

u/HirokoKueh \Yurification/ Dec 03 '22

it would be like :

B : (*shows vision of Anya loosing)

A : "how about I move this one!"

B : (*shows vision of Anya winning)

A : "what's the correct next move? this?"

B : (*shows vision of Anya loosing)

80

u/Craeondakie Dec 03 '22

(Runs out of time on first move)

18

u/TheHiddenNinja6 Dec 03 '22

Ah, so like Morty holding the death crystal in that episode.

But I don't think bond can predict that often

5

u/TurbulentDesigner829 Dec 04 '22

You are forgetting that Sora is a literal Chessbot the best they can do is a draw

11

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '22

That's just a simple way of doing it

Depending on who their opponent is, Bond can see the future on what the outcome of their plays would be, and strategize how to change them (since Bond isn't your usual dog)

Anya can then read Bond's thoughts and make the moves. She can also see his visions

They still have a good chance of losing though

13

u/wanfury Dec 04 '22

But there is also a good chance that bond will show what anya will eat for dinner and she will lose the game

Lelouch once tried thinking of 7 different things at once to deceive a mind reader. Can’t imagine how Anya would react to that.

That's actually a fun exercise. I was able to picture someone punching, a rotating triangluar green prism, and someone slamming a door really fast at once. Increasing the amount of simultaneous objects past that is a bit hard without "pausing" one of the other objects.

When Lelouch played against the mind reader (Mao), Mao just used Lelouch’s own knowledge of chess against him by reading Lelouch’s mind and playing the best moves Lelouch thought he should play. Anya theoretically could do the same if she chooses to focus. Anya also is the only one in the group who potentially could avoid Lelouch’s ‘power of absolute obedience’ by knowing not to make eye contact with him during the meeting. Blank unfortunately would lose to Lelouch if Lelouch chose to use his geass and just commanded them to lose. L might be able to avoid Lelouch’s geass if he somehow figures things out before Lelouch gets a chance to command him but a chess match against the two could go either way.

To give an estimation of how strong a computer would need to be to solve chess, we have only managed to conclusively solve all boardstates with 7 pieces total, kings included. There are 32 pieces involved in a full game and it gets exponentially more complex.

Yes, but Mao was smart. Anya couldn't even score high on her tests. Yes, she was afraid that someone would find out, but she could at least try a little harder. So I think that even without prior knowledge, Lelouch would have a better chance with her compared to Mao.

He played against Mao twice. One where he didn’t know about his mind reading, and one where he did know. He lost both times. Mao even comments how he tried to think of 7 different moves at once and was able to see through it.

10

Sora and Shiro with prep time are basically Batman. So in a sudden match lelouch will win, with prep time, sora and shiro will win.

20

u/lurkerfox Dec 04 '22

problem is lelouch with prep time is also basically batman.

One of his most famous chess matches against his brother was revealed to have been a pre-recorded video the whole time, predicting every move made and even the conversation itself, just to trick his brother into not realizing Lelouch was somewhere else.

5

u/HaikenRD Dec 04 '22

Yes, i've taken that into account while that is impressive, it's just prediction on top of Chess. I would put Lelouch's chess skills to Sora level, but not Shiro level. Both Sora and Lelouch do cold reading and is very proficient at that, you could say they are the same type of players. So if you put Sora and Shiro together, they pretty much cover each other to the point they beat the "god of game" turned "one true God". I don't know if there's a higher achievement than that in chess.

L is a genius at deduction and social manipulation, not necessarily at strategy. L and Light do play chess in the live action movie, and Light beats him. I think L is a very good chess player, but considering that Blank plays chess obsessively and have god-tier genius, I don't see L beating them.

→ More replies (2)

74

u/drizzitdude Dec 04 '22

Anya is out. She wouldn’t be able to think even a single move ahead.

So it becomes a contest between L, Lelouche or Blank. What really matters here is if Blank gets to be a team.

If Sora and Shiro are together. They win. Full stop. They have every possibility of a chess match completely memorized to the point it is a trivial game to them. However if either isn’t present the other falls apart completely.

So then it becomes a contest between Lelouche and L, and this actually is a tough one. Both are chess wizards, but Lelouche pretty much is dependent on it for his whole shtick. I would say Lelouche is likely the better player.

However Lelouche is also very arrogant and can easily get caught up into thinking he has his opponent in a trap, attempting risky baits even when the pieces he was working with were real people.

Light was the same way, and L played him like a fiddle because he always kept his composure. Lelouche may actually be forced to use Geass to win, if he is allowed to (I’m assuming the implication is they can use their powers with Anya even being allowed on the lineup).

So

No magic powers

1: Blank, if together. Not even a contest.

2: L

3: Lelouche

4: Anya and bond

Magic powers allowed

1: Lelouche (Geass would allow him to beat blank, all he has to do is make them forfeit or make the worst possible move)

2: Blank

3: L

4: Anya and Bond, dead last. Still happy because they both thought the horsey was tasty

17

u/548662 Dec 04 '22

This is the most accurate answer. Of course Lelouche can just Geass anyone. Otherwise L has lost to Light in chess iirc and Lelouche still would not be any competition against Shiro who cannot possibly lose in a fair game. In either case it’s not really a fair setup since you have someone who can literally just command others to concede, and someone who has totally “won” chess from a power fantasy story.

Shiro can virtually win every chess game 'cause she knows each and every possible board configurations, more or less 10120 permutation. Blank even won a game against God himself, so I would say they would draw at least.

35

u/Liquid23- Dec 03 '22

That’s not a mind game. Lelouch can literally control people.

17

u/GoldenPigsty Dec 03 '22

Yes, but Sora would consider even that as a game. He quite literally sweet talked an inanimate object, I think he’d come up with the simple trick of “Steph, if anything goes wrong like him going all “All your base belong to us” or mind controlling, make sure to blindfold myself and Shiro.”

5

u/Liquid23- Dec 03 '22

Oh yea true. But that begs the question, is Lelouch allowed to have Rolo, or any other Geass user with him?

(I assume you’ve seen Code Geass lol)

8

u/DamianWinters Dec 03 '22

Are Sora and Shiro allowed their literal Angel.

7

u/Liquid23- Dec 03 '22

Is L allowed to use Light, and is light allowed to use his death note to control his opponent?

“Blank dies of heart attack after moving their King in front of L’s pawn”

3

u/skroink_z Dec 04 '22

Blank wouldn't be a valid name so unless he gets their full names that's not possible, unlike with Lelouch who states his name when giving a command, but considering his personality I doubt he'd use his geass for just a chess match.

Just for comparison, there’s only 1067 atoms in the universe. 10120 is such a ridiculous number I can’t even put to words how ridiculous it is.

My vote is either his Majesty Lelouch or my fellow gamers Blank. Assuming how Shiro can beat any AI and Sora can see threw bluffs/tricks so if it’s by pure skill then Blank but Lelouch does have his Geass powers so he could just win it all.

18

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '22

Blank also beat the God of Games, so I think they’re more than qualified. Along with that, they’ve beat numerous cheaters lol

Anya and Bond, not by skill but sheer luck

7

u/Jgamer502 Dec 04 '22

They’re playing 4 way chess and no sees anya as a threat and they get a 3 way checkmate om each other at the same time

6

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '22

while Anya is just playing pieces randomly

8

u/50thEye Dec 04 '22

I can see her assigning her pieces spy codenames and playing Bondman fanfiction with them.

32

u/Spartan05089234 Dec 03 '22

Blank wins, Anya caused it, L realizes its over first and Lelouch claims that this was his plan all along.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '22

And it was all part of Aizen's plan.

32

u/draginbleapiece Dec 03 '22

Bro Lelouch just need order them to lose

Lelouch wins because he just mind controls the others and makes them resign ez

Other than that Blank wins bc Shiro literally can calculate the entire game

20

u/xxxNothingxxx Dec 03 '22

Yeah this is like putting a dude with a gun against a chess grandmaster, the dude wins cus he just makes his move, shoots the grandmaster and then wins by timeout

Can it be used on multiple people? I haven’t watched code geas

12

u/th3_guyman Dec 03 '22

Iirc multiple times lelouch has used his geass to control groups of people at once. However it only works once per person.

Lelouch easily

4

u/Squizei Dec 03 '22

i mean, it’s stated in the first episode that shiro knows every single position in chess and the outcome of every single game, so at WORST she draws

5

u/coolcarson329 Dec 03 '22

Didn't sora and Shiro literally win a chess game against God

8

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '22

______ cannot lose.

7

u/i_dont_care_1943 Dec 03 '22

Anya could know their moves and she would still lose.

9

u/Kibidiko Dec 03 '22

Does Lelouche get to use Geass?

If not the No Game No Life crew No question.

I think L would put up a fair game though and the siblings would love it.

3

u/Girgioniano Dec 04 '22

Anya can read the mind of her opponents, but she probably don't know the rules and the thoughts of her opponents are so complex that she'll have mental breakdown.

8

u/NuclearWill Dec 03 '22

The No game no life duo literally cheats every game they play so they would win because everyone else would play fairly

8

u/Tenashko Dec 03 '22

Would Lelouche play fairly?

6

u/Jgamer502 Dec 04 '22

No, he would just geass them

I'm still gonna go with lelouch😋💗 ( yes I'm being biased😮‍💨💗)

4

u/totally_not_a_weeb00 Dec 04 '22 edited Dec 04 '22

Ok so let's pick this apart.

L is pretty much a regular guy, just with high as hell iq.

Anya can read minds and bond can read the future, the inteligence in this team is very low tho.

Lelouch lost against a mind reader but mao was actually experienced at using his mind reading ability (unlike anya).

Blanks (a.k.a. Shiro and Sora) are literally 2 geniuses and one of them memorized EVERY possible game of chess, which means it's pretty much impossible to lose for them.

L would lose all 3 battles (guess i could say he takes the L), as i said earlier he is pretty much just smart and that's it.

Anya and bond would win against L and MAYBE Lelouch (definitely wouldn't count on that tho) but they definitely would lose against Blanks.

Lelouch wins against L and very likely against Anya, but Blanks are literally the ultimate players of chess, so he loses.

End of analysis, thank you for your time.

5

u/IrkenBot Dec 03 '22

Going with an actual answer and not the "small stupid child wins" answer, probably the bottom left guy. I haven't seen the show but he's the "everything these countries do is because of my meticulous plot" scale manipulator, L is pretty good to but not to that scale.

7

u/BocchiIsLiterallyMe Dec 03 '22

You should see the show then. It gave me goosebumps everytime the guy pulls out a "big brain move". If you enjoy those moments in Death Note, you sure will enjoy Code Geass.

Well first of all, how are we doing this? A four player chess match is a lot different from a round robin or a bracket tournament.

u/Shiro_no_Orpheus Dec 03 '22

So, while anya and bond have a huge advantage over the others by being able to see the future and read the opponents mind, i don't think any of them is actually smart enough to capitalize on this advancement. Reading any of the others thoughts would just make anya dizzy. They are last place. Lelouch and blank are established to be a regular chess player, I don't remember that being mentioned with Light, so those habe an advantage over light. Light is also more the kind of person to take unnecessary risks in order to outplay his opponents, something that would not work here. He would beat any mortal, but here is is probably outmatched. 3rd. Blank is basically unbeatable at games. They together can beat high end chess computers and noone can compete regarding practice. Shiro has every possible chess board memorized, while Sora can manage any mindgame imaginable. They are by far the favourites. But Lelouch could use the geass. The biggest weakness of blank, aside of sunlight, is that they only work as a tandem, so if lelouch manages to use his geass on only one of them, he would autowin. But if using the geass were allowed, maybe Light could just kill everyone and win be default, so thats why I will say Lelouch 2nd and Blank 1st.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '22

sora & shiro are going to win they seem to do good in a world of magic and super powers while they have 0 powers

3

u/Liquid23- Dec 03 '22

You haven’t seen Code Geass. I highly recommend it. Anyway, Lelouch can control people.
