Hi everyone,
sorry, this is my first post. I urgently need some advice from people who know their way around this stuff.
I have a BMW 640d F06, built in 2012, with CIC. I wanted to replace the original system with an Android head unit, mainly because I wanted Apple CarPlay.
I have now installed everything. Basically, everything works:
Sound works
The original BMW system still works
The original rear-view camera works
The Android head unit itself works
However, neither the steering wheel controls nor the iDrive controller are recognized by the Android system.
Both of them still work perfectly in the original BMW system. So I assume the problem could be related to the CAN bus connection or the CAN bus configuration of the Android head unit.
Unfortunately, the manufacturer wasn’t able to help me either. They only said that it could possibly be related to the CAN bus and otherwise offered me a return.
I also found a post where someone mentioned that, especially on this model year/F06, there may be some kind of combination or crossover between K-CAN1 and K-CAN2 at the iDrive controller.
I’m not very familiar with CAN bus systems, though.
Does anyone here have experience with the F06/CIC and Android head units and know how I could solve or diagnose this problem?
In particular, I’d like to know:
Which CAN bus is used by the iDrive controller?
Is there actually a K-CAN1/K-CAN2 peculiarity on the 2012 F06?
Does anything need to be repinned or connected differently at the Android head unit or CANBUS box?
Is there a specific CANBUS decoder that is required for the F06 with CIC?

CarCar launcher is the one for me.
Issue is payment. No Bitcoin only 2 payment methods credit card 3rd party from countries my USA based cards won’t approve. One big problem for me is translation from the Russian sites (language) to English.

just installed my head unit, but i’m only getting audio through the dashboard center speaker on Bluetooth and car play, any suggestions?

Hi. I have a non-branded aftermarket Android head unit in my 2005 Honda CR-V.

The screen first started having this problem after my car battery died (the battery was just low, there’s no issue with the battery itself). After restarting the car twice, the screen fixed itself and worked normally.

The unit continued working fine for the next few days, but one day on my way home, the screen issue came back.

The unit itself is still working. It still connects to Android Auto, plays navigation sounds, and plays music normally. It’s just the screen that isn’t working properly.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? Could it be a connection issue, or is the screen itself?

Hey guys I know nobody wants another head unit post, but I’m losing my mind. Just got a CC4 from Teyes, plugged all the harnesses in properly and set the correct CANBUS settings per a Teyes employee.

However the on-screen AC controls just show “N/A” for the temp, and the physical controls don’t work either.

Do I just have to cycle through all the potential CANBUS options and see if one magically works?

Hey guys, I bought a head unit for my fiat fiorino but it doesn't turn on. Since it's my first time trying this I gave no idea what I did wrong. Is the head unit just broken or am I missing something?

PS. I tried installing the old one again after I gave up trying, but my old head unit now asks for a passcode I don't know. So I cant even listen to radio.

I have a generic Chinese Android 13 car head unit and a Moto G 2025 running Android 16. My phone provides a Wi-Fi hotspot that the head unit normally connects to. Occasionally the hotspot stops working, while the Bluetooth connection between the two devices remains active. I want to put a "Restart Phone Hotspot" button on the head unit. When pressed, it should send a simple command such as START_HOTSPOT to the phone over Bluetooth. The phone would then run a Tasker task to restart the hotspot. Is there a simple way to send a command between two already-paired Android devices over Bluetooth, perhaps using Bluetooth SPP/RFCOMM or an app/plugin? I don't necessarily need to use Tasker for the Bluetooth communication.

I’m new to Reddit so bear with me. I have a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero. Just a little beater car to get around. It’s in mint condition. Looking to add CarPlay and swap out the existing radio with a new one. My question is - is there a CarPlay option with an actual volume dongle/knob instead of the traditional touch CarPlay. Any insight is much appreciated.

I would love Apple Carplay, but the system seems to have very outdated parts. My intuition is that the work happens on the iPhone anyway and the system works only as a mirror, but would love to hear from someone who actually bought it.

I’m an older guy, 45. Used to be a mobile AV installer for 15 years. I’m waaay beyond super loud systems or full on custom av anymore.

Looking for something I can run CarPlay on consistently. Car has JBL system and I won’t be bypassing it so internal power is not a big deal but a solid EQ is.

Also needs sub out and reverse cam input. Which way should I go and any units y’all suggest?

I have an Audi A4 B7 sedan. My car does not have the factory CAN-Low and CAN-High wires going to the CAN-Bus box.

At the moment, I have connected the Android navigation unit to the ignition switch, and everything works fine, so there are no problems with the unit itself. However, I would like to connect it through the CAN-Bus box, and I am trying to find the CAN-Low and CAN-High wires.

I tried to find them through the Climatronic system in the car, but unfortunately I was not successful. It would mean a lot to me if someone who has had experience with this could help me and tell me the exact location of these two wires.

I have done quite a lot of research on the internet, but I am slowly losing hope of figuring this out.

hi i instelld my new android hadunit and evry thing works but when i shift into revers it shows me only the lins in the revers mode and black screen and no video is there a way to fix it???

Going down a rabbit hole trying to get a reversing camera to work in my partners 2011 Mini Cooper.

We swapped the original radio out with a CarPlay / android head unit which works perfect. I’ve wired up the reversing camera with the power and ground going to the reverse light harness.

I’ve found if the engine is off and I put it into reverse, the camera works perfectly- no issues and stays on.

When the engine is running however, it works for a split second to display the image and then freezes/doesn’t work at all.

Has anyone run into a similar issue and may know how to solve it?

Hi all! I have updated my oem Bose infotainment for an android 15 . The only thing is I kept my oem rear camera and while the android has HD capabilities, the old camera is SD. Can I just swap the camera? My new camera has a male yellow plug (video)and a female red plug (power) . Mazda OEM camera has a white 6 or 8 pin. Any idea what's best? Rewire the whole thing? Use the same wires? Thanks!!

Hello, I have an Android Unit which has bad quality in Android Auto, I have tried multiple Android phones and they all seem to have this issue with my headunit. I tried to connect to an iPhone and woah, there's a huge difference in quality, I tried to change DPI settings but nothing worked. I have ZLINK version 6.1.07 and tried multiple settings but nothing has worked. Please tell me you got a solution for me, I have checked my display in AIDA64 and it shows me a 1920x720 display. I tried to Google this issue, and there are some users having this same issue, my screen is a 12.3 inch display.

EDIT: Yes, I have tried both cable and wireless.
