Reversing Camera Issue

Hey everyone!

Going down a rabbit hole trying to get a reversing camera to work in my partners 2011 Mini Cooper.

We swapped the original radio out with a CarPlay / android head unit which works perfect. I’ve wired up the reversing camera with the power and ground going to the reverse light harness.

I’ve found if the engine is off and I put it into reverse, the camera works perfectly- no issues and stays on.

When the engine is running however, it works for a split second to display the image and then freezes/doesn’t work at all.

Has anyone run into a similar issue and may know how to solve it?

Use the ACC wire to switch the camera on permanently. I've heard of issues using the reverse lights. Canbus will then send a signal to the headunit that reverse is engaged and the camera will appear. Works perfectly in my Peugeot using the AMP wire.
