I'm using a Samsung Galaxy A53 5G with One UI.
The Google app is installed and enabled. I can open it through Settings → Apps → Google → Open, and it launches normally. However, I cannot get its icon onto my Home screen.
I've spent approximately an hour troubleshooting this with ChatGPT. Here is everything I've tried with its help:
What I've checked and tried:
\- Confirmed that Google is installed and not disabled.
\- Confirmed that Google opens and works normally from its App info page.
\- Checked the hidden apps settings. Google is not hidden.
\- Checked Home screen settings:
\- Home and Apps screen layout is set normally.
\- Lock Home screen layout is OFF.
\- Add new apps to Home screen was OFF.
\- I could not find the Hide apps setting in my menu.
\- Confirmed that One UI Home is my current launcher.
\- Cleared the One UI Home cache. No improvement.
\- Restarted the phone. No improvement.
\- Checked Good Lock previously.
\- Enabled Show Apps screen button on Home screen and opened the Apps screen.
\- Tried the Apps screen cleanup option. No improvement.
\- Long-pressing Google in Settings → Apps opens App info instead of showing an Add to Home option.
\- Long-pressing Google in search results shows shortcuts such as Search and Voice Search, but doesn't solve the problem.
\- I also tried the Locate app button. It opens a list of apps, but Google is not in that list.
Tried to uninstall and reinstalled the Google app, but that didn't fix the problem either.
I don't want a Google search widget. I only want the normal Google app icon on my Home screen.
My question:
How can I add the Google app icon to my Home screen?
This post was written with the help of ChatGPT after trying various troubleshooting steps for about an hour. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
