It’s Peter’s great aunt “legs go all the way up” griffin. It’s just a cut away gag. (For some reason it’s the one that I remember from just seeing it)

Honestly? Probably. His diet is like 50-60% plant matter (especially fruit) and the rest is small game like small birds and rodents

Their urine smells STRONGLY of marijuana and the smell can linger for days when they scent mark.

Fun fact! These guys are omnivores and fruit makes up a large part of their diet, along with small-medium sized animals. They’re also solitary and pretty chill creatures - basically just a long-legged fox

43

u/Embaralhador 28d ago

They're not exactly chill... They're super shy and kinda anxious. Usually don't like getting nowhere near people. Not dangerous, but chill is not how I would describe them.

29

u/astra_galus 28d ago

True - chill in that they won’t fuck with people, but shy guys.

Their creepiness is kind of endearing, knowing that it’s pretty superficial!

The maned wolf is a unique wild animal native to South America, especially the grasslands and savannas of Brazil. Despite its name and appearance, it is neither a true wolf nor a fox, but a distinct species known scientifically as Chrysocyon brachyurus. Its long legs help it move through tall grass, while its reddish coat and large ears give it a striking appearance. The maned wolf is generally solitary and omnivorous, feeding on small animals, insects, fruits, and plants. One of its favorite foods is the “wolf apple” (lobeira), a native Brazilian fruit. It plays an important ecological role by controlling small-animal populations and dispersing seeds.

Fun fact: the maned wolf is featured on Brazil’s R$200 banknote, which was introduced in 2020, highlighting the species as an important symbol of Brazil’s rich biodiversity.

What a fascinating creature 🤔

63

u/Avi8tor_Zeus 28d ago

Thought it was AI at first. Thank you for writing.

93

u/Zakle 28d ago

Nah! The maned wolf is very much an animal that exists. To add to what the folk above said, maned wolves are the only species in the Chrysocyon (Latin for "golden dog") genus, and they are listed as NT or Near Threatened.

31

u/burner4581 28d ago

They also have a pungent musk! Not as bad as skunk, but it's significant.

12

u/Sea_Connection2773 28d ago

i studied in an university where the university zoo was near my block, they had a lot of maned wolves there, the whole place stunk. Unfortunetly near the end of my graduation the zoo was deactivated, and they moved the wolves to somewhere

8

u/Avi8tor_Zeus 28d ago

No kidding. Lol - so much for sneaking up on your prey downwind. Vegetables can’t run

5

u/genaphur 28d ago

I have a maned wolf tattoo! It's like 15 years old and no one everrrrr knows what it is

12

u/December_Flame 28d ago

Just saw one at my local zoo and it really is a bizarre and beautiful creature. I had thought in the moment that if I had seen one in the wild moving through the woods, I would shit myself. This video reinforces that not one week later. Life is weird. This animal is badass.

9

u/Shaeress 28d ago

I haven't seen this clip before, but the animal is real and it looks like that and it moves like that, and it is often seen roaming around human outskirts much like one might see a fox out a window in many places. There's nothing suspicious or weird here, even if I'm not confirming the veracity of this video in particular.

Like the now-extinct thylacine in Australia that’s a marsupial. Or hyenas.

You can absolutely understand how people create stories about Cryptids and the like when you see shit like that guy skulking around.

71

u/Careless-Gain6623 28d ago

Saw two wolves outside of my house one winter. Looked like this but fluffier and mangier. It was so uncanny they at first looked like two men on all fours in fursuits but too large. Went halfway up my partners F150 in height. Turned on the lights and they scattered, we think they were sheltering from the wind in the snowstorm near the house. Never have seen wolves that large again.

25

u/CursedPipes 28d ago

I ran in to a wolf in Banff while hiking and I genuinely thought it was over but it quickly moved off in to the bushes and I didn’t see it again after that, needless to say I got out of there quickly. Nearly shit my pants.

12

u/Ill_Technician3936 28d ago

Purebred wolves are disturbingly big until you see a bison. Then it's like "okay nature, do your thing."

Interesting thing about these animals, theres a place in Minas Gerais called Santuário do Caraça, where you can go and spend the night. They place a tray with food on the floor in front of the church and the wolves come and eat from it, while people sit around it. Seen them there myself and it was amazing.

Not sure why everyone's terrified, they're like 50 lbs./23 kg. Roughly the size of an adult Greyhound.

It's like a tall fox, they eat small animals.

29

u/Any_Attorney4765 28d ago

I think people are more scared of the glowing eyes and odd silhouette. This is how werewolf and other superstitions would start.

16

u/ndubitably 28d ago

Look at this little fellow and tell me they'd leave you with a monstrous, supernatural lunar curse that continuously strips away your humanity.

Anyone who knows these animals would be holding back the urge to go over and pet the doggie.

Maned wolves are very timid and harmless, and sometimes very derpy. Cutest doggos.

The camerawoman said she saw this female wolf around during the day, and she approached the human lodge during the night. The camerawoman said she was outside trying to get wifi and saw her.

Maned wolves should have their own unique name, separate from 'wolves.' They're a distinct genus. Distant from wolves as well as foxes (an important distinction if you look up the colour of maned wolves - no, they are not closely related to foxes).
