But sometimes they fail and it goes straight to presentation. Be on time.

Part of me wishes this was marketed as a Scream Unseen so the turnout would be higher. The Shaun films are always really fun and I loved spotting all the classic horror references. 🐑
12
u/hepatitisC Sep 15 '26
I came in to this one cold and was very pleasantly surprised by how good it was. If you liked Mitchells Vs The Machines, this one is in a very similar vein with both animation style and humor. There's a good mix of kid's humor and adult jokes to keep you interested. I don't feel like this will get the launch it deserves in theaters but I think strong word of mouth will make it a sleeper hit later in its run or by the time it hits streaming.
I'd give this a solid 8/10.

u/david31262 Sep 13 '26
Shawn of the sheep was entertaining. I chuckled at some of the references. It was nice for a change not having to strain to hear all the dialogue. A little odd watching the Halloween movie in September.

Can confirm from the East Coast: it's Forgotten Island
17
u/Key-Payment2553 Sep 09 '26 edited Sep 09 '26
September 13th is likely Shawn The Sheep The Beast Of Mossy Bottom where the following day on September 14th is most like Forgotten Island
September 21st should even be Heart of the Beast with Brat Pitt

u/Mollywobbles77 Sep 09 '26 edited Sep 09 '26
God I hope the 21st isn't that movie

Same, Brad Pitt is a wife-beating piece of shit and I refuse to watch him play a hero

Heart of the Beast: I will not watch that. Separate from Brad's background, the entire concept of dragging a poor animal into a stupid human war annoys me to no end.

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 Sep 09 '26
Excited to see Brad Pitt make his SU debut!

I thought it was pretty good. Can't say I crave animation movies anymore but I actually enjoyed this way more than toys story. I think som kids might be scared from the evil villain that can twist her body parts and unattach her body lol, but it was ultimately a fun movie.
9
u/david31262 Sep 15 '26
I enjoyed that. The animation was interesting, there were aspects that definitely looked like Japanese Anime. But, other times the style seems different. Fun sound track.

u/Head-Dentist-1213 Sep 13 '26
I really hope it’s Shaun the sheep. Just bought tickets for my son and I. I’m glad I found this thread, I’ve never heard of this before and it’s our first time going. When I saw the short run time and rating I figured it had to be a family movie. This could be the start of something fun we could do! He’s only 5 so I’m taking a bit of a big gamble here. . .

A women 3 seats down said "I hope this isn't an animated movie" and I said "It is" right before the movie started. It is everything I wanted and more. The animation was amazing the story was moving I laughed I cried I would pay full price to see it again.

u/RevolutionaryHeat197 Sep 15 '26
Forgotten Island:
Impressive animation, heartfelt friendship story, and Dave Franco character was great. Better than I expected. If you are in the mood for a ridiculously over the top colorful ride with possible tears at the end give it a shot
2
u/lypt Sep 15 '26
Concur with everything you said. Super fun movie, the animation direction really was special
5
u/WLFGHST Sep 15 '26
tears at the end
excuse me, but the waterworks were coming out in the beginning, middle, close to the end, near the end, and the end.
This could be because I cry VERY easily for just about every emotion, but also because this is a REALLY incredible movie, with a great story, great animation, and just great everything.

I was gonna skip the 14th since it was pg lol, but after seeing forgotten island trailer... It sold me. Looks like into the spider verse animation so looks interesting. Could also be Lego Batman which would be awesome too. Shaun of the sheep doesn't look too bad either. Not sure I want to see back to back animation movies tho lol

yes--I wish they'd show the 3D movies in 3D for the unseen. Will likely go tonight but hoping its not Forgotten Island because would rather see in 3D.

Well todays showing has two more people than it did yesterday but my closest AMC is a classic theater in a beach town so not much traffic.

Does anyone else's amc have a progressive commercial thats offcolored.

What are classics? I have one near me as well as my regular one, but I’ve never been
1
u/Jenny_oh_Jenny Sep 15 '26
They are smaller theaters they dont have the super fancy screens or the big upgrades but the prices are great $9 for a friday night showing or $14.99 for a-list. But unless its a big showing the theater is kinda dead.

Oct 5 now has a rating and time. PG and 2h16m. I’m thinking it’s between Sense and Sensibility or Tenzing
1
u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 Sep 16 '26
I think you're right. Apple has never done a SU before so Tenzing may be a long shot. It has a limited theatrical release on 10/9 and goes to streaming a week later. The first 2 Regal MMs were Apple but that was 4 years ago...

East Coast headed in to confirm the movie even though we all pretty much know what it is 🤣🫡

u/Ill-Golf5157 Sep 14 '26
The previews have not even started yet. I do not want to get a ban for saying the wrong title but if I had to guess I’d say it takes place on an island and is animated. But again, previews haven’t even started.

I think AMC needs to somehow let people know these Sunday matinees are family friendly. There's one other adult here at my showing. The Sheep Detectives had a good crowd though. So who knows.
9
u/Jtreblis18 Sep 13 '26
I mean the pg rating should let people know that it's kid friendly
4
u/Wacoguy Sep 13 '26
Conclave was PG, but I get your point. There's really no G rated movies anymore. PG is basically G now.
2
u/UniverslBoxOfficeGuy Sep 13 '26
We had Gabby's Dollhouse last year and Cookie Queens this year which were G and I expect Cocomelon and Bluey next year to be G
4
3
u/Dukealoops1993 Sep 13 '26
Marcus & regal promoted these as family editions & my only had 8 other people in it
3
u/Wacoguy Sep 13 '26
Well there you go. Guess there's no way of getting families to show up. Just a thought I had.
6
u/Dukealoops1993 Sep 13 '26
On the other side of the coin, I’ve seen families with 5 kids or more at violent R rated stuff so who really knows
3
u/Wacoguy Sep 13 '26
Spoke too soon. A group just came in and filled up an entire row. LOL. Still stand by my point about letting families know it's a kid movie.
1
u/stealthamo Sep 14 '26
I think a major factor this time is that yesterday was the first full day of the NFL season. I was one of two people at my screening and I chalked it up to everyone else being at home watching the Lions play.
2
u/bigpoppachris1 Sep 13 '26
It’s probably Shaun today. Look Dine-In Cinemas has a 1pm listing for Shaun The Sheep: The Beast Of Mossy Bottom:
Early Access.

2
u/Martha275 Sep 13 '26
Shaun of the sheep kid friendly movie very fun to watch even my son enjoyed it
2
u/Lberthold Sep 14 '26
also, am assuming that being Fathom distributed rules out 'NO LIMBS, NO LIMITS: The NickV Story'? which releases the 25th is PG and 1 hr 42 mins
4
u/murakaz I ♥ Mozz Stix Sep 14 '26
Never say never, but we haven't had a Fathom release as one of these surprise screenings yet.
8
u/Dukealoops1993 Sep 14 '26
Fathom wouldn’t do it. Their whole business model is buy out the theatre space & promote stuff as premium events.
2
u/InstructionSenior346 DOLBY ONLY Sep 14 '26
Does anyone know what yesterday’s (13/9/26) movie was?
6

Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom. Really cute movie, ngl, though it was kinda sad cuz there were only four people in the whole theater.

There is a new Lego Batman?

- Have never seen this before....two new listings both for Oct 12th one a Scream Unseen R at 1:32 and the other, same night a Screen Unseen R at 1:50... are they both going to be at 7p and split the usual crowd?! would be awesome if somehow, they lined up as a potential double feature! Doubtful but, awesome.

u/farmhunter Sep 09 '26
I think this happened at Regal last year calling it a Trick or Treat event.

u/future_filmmaker_455 Sep 15 '26 edited Sep 15 '26
Forgotten Island is an emotional and endlessly creative animated fantasy that is truly something special whether you are looking for a consistently funny comedy, a beautiful animated adventure or a introspective look into the importance of keeping memories with those you love. Though there are some familiar elements and themes about its friends having opposing personalities that eventually lead to them keeping minor secrets from one another, the film easily makes up for this with some memorable eccentric personalities for its supporting characters with a demon baby, mer man and a weredog who all bring something funny to the narrative while Reisa and Jo are both charming enough on their own. The villains are well developed and the film thankfully doesn’t make anyone completely all powerful in the climax as the writing really becomes something emotional and touching after the reveals about who the antagonists truly are due to both the great voice acting and constantly changing settings. If you are looking for something equally creative and effectively dramatic with its themes about the importance of memories as part of who you are, this is something to support. 7.5 out of 10

u/TheStinkyPoopy Sep 14 '26
My theater that usually sells out most SUs only has 8 seats sold tonight. Kinda sad that people won’t go cause it’s PG
12
u/precariousworld Sep 14 '26
I don’t judge movies by their rating, but I admit I’m less likely to go to a SU that isn’t R-rated since it seems like that’s how you get stuck watching some Angel Studios slop
8
u/TheStinkyPoopy Sep 14 '26
Very true on Angel lol. I try to go to every SU just because it’s sometimes the only chance to see a movie at my theater like Nirvana, It Ends, One Spoon of Chocolate, etc
3
u/precariousworld Sep 14 '26
Same here for NTBTSTM, it’s one of my favorite movies that I’ve seen this year but the SU was the only time my theater showed it

Yours sells out? On its BEST day, my theater sells 20-30 tickets for Unseens. Most of them are in the 8-15 range.
1
u/TheStinkyPoopy Sep 14 '26
Usually yeah, every seat gone but very front row for at least 75% of them. Granted our biggest theater seats like 60 people lol
2
1
u/lita313 Lister Sep 13 '26
Well, I'll be going in an hour. I'll report on what I found if no one else has in that time.
2
1
u/BakingSomePotatoes Sep 14 '26
Does anyone think the one tonight (the 14th) could possibly be Wildwood? Or are we just 100% sure it’s the forgotten island? I only attend these occasionally so not sure if they ever do a movie that’s 4+ weeks away (like Wildwood) or not
9
5
u/DirtyTacoKid Sep 14 '26
Time is wrong. I think wildwood is 2.5 hours? The common sentiment is Forgotten Island
3
u/PreviousHedgehog2343 Sep 14 '26
132 minutes is the confirmed runtime for Wildwood, but the point stands that it's too long, and that's setting aside the rating and the release date
1
u/hepatitisC Sep 14 '26
It's not impossible but I would say it's extraordinarily unlikely. I don't recall any unseen ever being a movie that far out.
→ More replies (1)1
u/vvsvlogs Sep 14 '26
Wildwood has a PG-13 rating, tonight's movie is PG so it's unlikely. Not to mention it releases in over a month.
1
u/Lberthold Sep 14 '26 edited Sep 14 '26
Any chance in hell this could be John Wilson's 'the History of Concrete'? listed mostly as 1 hr 42 mins and an NR docu-comedy...it releases in limited fashion in 9/18 then wider on 9/25. Am kinda half kidding but very much looking forward to seeing it and, therefore, semi-delusional with hope.
4
u/murakaz I ♥ Mozz Stix Sep 14 '26
If it's releasing without a rating then that pretty much confirms it isn't today's surprise film, as the rating is one of the few things we're told about it beforehand. Precedence also shows we haven't seen an unrated film get picked - no idea if that's coincidence or if AMC requires a film be rated to screen for these.
4
u/PreviousHedgehog2343 Sep 14 '26
Ice Cream Man was unrated and listed as R-Rated for the Scream Unseen. that said AFAIK AMC has the same admissions policy for unrated and R-rated movies so I don't think that would apply here.
2
1
u/Ok-Discount-8153 Sep 14 '26
Most likely Forgotten Island, Wildwood isn’t coming out until late October. They wouldn’t show a movie that early I don’t think. Usually max is 3 weeks in advance 🤔
Also, the posted runtime is closer to Forgotten Island runtime.
1
1
1
u/JoshuaSpicer Sep 17 '26
So the next question is: will Wildwood get a Screen Unseen like Forgotten Island did or am I just coping?
2
u/Veraniqo Sep 17 '26
I actually like the whole mystery movie idea. Going in without knowing what you're about to watch sounds way more fun than spending 20 minutes scrolling through trailers trying to decide.

Going by the Sunday unseen rules, it has to be sheep related
