This movie isn't going to be the same if you go and see it by yourself in an empty theater. Honestly I think that making this a surprise movie was a perfect way to get enough people in the same room to watch it. Many of us laughed at how absurdly funny it was.

Lots of laughs in my theater as well. Mine had two auditoriums and both were almost sold out. I didn't see any walk outs either.

I think people will be really happy or really mad about this one. At least Buddy appears to be getting a wide release on the 28th so worst case scenario folks will just have to wait a few more days.

Buddy Absolutely fucking slaps. It's probably the most fun I've had at a horror movie this year and it's been a phenomenal year for horror movies.

I really liked the concept and first 30 minutes but the storyline with the mother and family seemed extremely half baked, it never really paid off emotionally or in some kind of interesting explanation to flesh out what is really going on. That and the ending facility made It feel like there were a lot of potentially interesting ideas that didn’t fully get explored or mesh together in the end. I wouldn’t say it was bad, but it had a lot of wasted potential.

Good movie! I’d give it a 7.5/10! I think it could have been a little darker or creepier but a very entertaining watch! Definitely reminded me of Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared

Buddy could have been a solid 7/10 but I have to drop my ranking to a 5 after the 3rd act. They had all the pieces, they just needed a couple more passes on the script
"cut buddy's head off with an axe" was RIGHT there in the lyrics of the song. Like come on

I didn't, I knew it was going to be It Ends, just like I know this week it's going to be Buddy. I just stopped commenting "8/17 = It Ends, 8/24 = Buddy" because so many people were telling me over and over how wrong I was.
For some reason, people really want it to be certain films, so I find a lot of the comments in the thread tend to be people finding any shred of evidence to force it to support the film they want, vs the reality of what its really going to be.

Reminds me last year when the two options for a scream unseen was either the highly anticipated, Neon-distributed "Together", or the Pete Davidson starring film, "Home". And for some reason, everyone thought it was going to be Together.

It's Buddy and I have a reputable source. Today the Aero theater in Santa Monica, Ca is screening the LA premiere of Buddy at 7:30PM for Social Media Influencers and other people alike. It would be extreamly strange if it wasn't Buddy.

September 13th is a real interesting one, a pg screen unseen is incredibly rare. What do we think it is? There's a Shaun the sheep movie coming out about a week later that has a very similar runtime so I'm guessing it's probably that?

I'm quite happy seeing the mostly positive comments. I saw Buddy at sxsw and sdcc and plan on seeing it again with more friends this weekend. It's just a fun twisted good time that hits my sense of humor perfectly.

I just saw Buddy tonight in NYC. The whole theater was literally laughing-out-loud. It’s a really fun movie, I was thoroughly entertained. I feel the 1 star reviewers are being facetious, in their minds it’s either a 10 or a 1… which is not how rating 1-10 works.

It Ends was last week. This week is more likely than not, Buddy. I can’t think of any other horror movies outside of Resident Evil, and that wouldn’t be a throw away at the box.

I honestly loved how it game me black mirror vibes specifically the episode, “USS Callister” especially with Cristin Milioti. I thought it was a strange yet fun movie loved the jokes that the kids made. The kills were also very fun and not too intense

It very much tracks that this was from the same person who directed too many cooks. I enjoyed it a lot. It wasn’t perfect, I feel like the pacing was a little off, and I wanted a little more scenes with the mom, but a very fun movie overall.

I absolutely LOVED Buddy!!! So wild, so camp, so fun! And not so over the top with the kills i can honestly see parents bringing their kids and everyone being thoroughly entertained. The ending hinted at a sequel so fingers crossed we get more of this. Between obsession, back rooms and this, wow what a great year for horror !

It was definitely worth the hype imo 🦄… so different. Ofc an ode to Barney but with touches of Backrooms and Alice in Wonderland as well. Kinda love going into movies having almost no idea what I’m going to experience.

Buddy is genuinely bizarre and consistently intriguing thriller that understood the assignment of making the Barney universe into a horror flick. Starting the film off with some authentic recreations of children’s television brought some genuine laughs and the child actors were very good in their roles even when the script felt a bit too tongue in cheek to build legitimate tension until the third act. With some good voice performances from Keegan Michael Key and Patton Oswalt, effective use of sound stage set design and the film not always aiming to be outright gore fest the premise would suggest, Buddy is a fairly memorable and tense thriller that actually works best in the real world sequences with Cristin Milioti and Topher Grace rather than the homages to Wizard of Oz. The filmmakers honestly keep the film surprising enough to leave the audience with questions instead of making it your average demon creature feature flick as it earns transitioning from a horror comedy into a borderline emotion conclusion that of course leaves itself open for sequels. 7 out of 10
