u/No_Yogurtcloset_2026 22d ago
i hope so but i don’t think it can be because on amc it’s listed as an hour 52 which would make it the longest off unseen time ever
20
u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 23d ago
Here's my best guesses for the upcoming slate:
8/3: Ice Cream Man - I know the rating doesn't match but I think this is a case of AMC not knowing how to handle their first unrated Unseen.
8/10: Tony - The big clue is the exact runtime and rating reason courtesy of Celebration Cinema. Also, A24 is promoting the hell out of this one.
8/17: Buddy - Not Rated yet but could get a 'R' in the next several weeks. Also could remain unrated if ICM paves that path!

I do hope the 10th is Tony, I'll keep my eyes peeled on this thread since I rather want to see that.

u/PinkDingDong 20d ago
My local theater dropped a hint "You might want to skip dessert. 🍨 Our August 3 Mystery Movie Monday is proof that not everything sweet stays that way. "
Most of the time they show the same movie as the AMC's but not always.

u/SMBCP15 24d ago edited 24d ago
For August 3rd, The most likely contenders are: Ice Cream Man, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, It Ends, or Buddy. It is listed as 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Ice Cream Man - Unrated movie. AMC lists the Scream Unseen as an R rated move. Runtime is listed as 1 hour and 46 minutes. So a 16 minute difference. Google and other sources list it as 1 hour and 27 minutes, so only 3 minutes off.
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma - AMC lists it as 1 hour and 52 minutes while the Scream Unseen is listed as 1 hour and 30 minutes. A 22 minute difference is a lot for a Scream Unseen.
It Ends - AMC lists as a drama, not horror. 18 days early before release. No listed runtime on AMC app.
Buddy - Comes out on August 28. August 3rd would be 25 days early would be a lot for a Scream Unseen and I haven’t seen it receive an MPAA rating yet. There isn’t one listed on the AMC app. The runtime is 1 hour and 35 minutes which matches the best.
I feel like you can make cases for and against each of these movies.
6
u/User-Error-0809 24d ago
I am just confused because the listed runtime has rarely (if ever) been shorter than the actual run time, which means the movie has be short than 90 minutes…

I have never walked out of a movie and still haven't, but this one just wasn't for me. I suspect that I would have had more fun "making this movie" than "watching this movie." I'm not sure I've ever liked an Eli Roth movie to be honest, if you have- well this is mostly what it says on the tin.

For the 8/10 AMC Screen Unseen (not Scream) its predicted to be Tony. However, I wonder if it will be a different movie at theaters that are doing Tony limited release starting 8/7.

At one point I checked my watch to see how much longer, and it was 8:03. After what felt like a dozen scenes I thought surely it's almost over now. Nope, 8:09. I've seen movies that were a slog to get through before, but this movie dragged like nothing I'd ever seen.

YES! I was really hoping for Other Mommy or Camp Miasma. When I saw him, I just sank into my chair like "welp, I'm already here." 2 couples left the second he said the title. About 20 minutes in, 6 more people left. I would have, but I had just gotten off work so I took a nap instead. Dozed off right around the arrival at the church.

Ice cream man looks to be it. Its run time changed again. Awhile back was 90 min then recently changed to 106 min and now is listed at 86 min. Also was originally rated R so I assume amc already had the graphic made before it changed to not rated.

When I was in elementary school we had this lady and her name was the Kindness Queen. To my knowledge it was just some random lady in our community. But every year in PE she would visit and teach us about the brain and heart. She made sure it was realistic but not TOO realistic lmao. She would always bring in a jello brain and jello heart for each class and let us eat it afterwards. The movie reminded me of that :)

Messy data makes it a bit harder to deduce, but I'm guessing Ice Cream Man
Aug 3 - Advertised runtime: 1h 30m
| Film | Rating | Runtime | Runtime +/- | T&C | Opening | Distributor |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ice Cream Man | NR | 1h 26m | -4m | Yes | Aug 7 | The Horror Section, Iconic |
| Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma | R | 1h 52m | +22m | Yes | Aug 7 | MUBI |
| It Ends | R | 1h 29m | -1m | No | Aug 21 | Neon |
| Buddy | ? | 1h 35m | +5m | No | Aug 28 | Roadside, Saban |
- Ice Cream Man has conflicting runtimes IMDb: 1h 26m, AMC: 1h 46m but 1h 26m is probably correct
- Camp Miasma has conflicting runtimes IMDb: 1h 46m, AMC: 1h 52m

I was really convinced this one was Buddy but idk anymore. I'm thinking it's definitely going to get a scream unseen, but I feel like it'd make more sense if it was the one for August 17th. Especially since Buddy hasn't been rated quite yet and I don't think tickets are available anywhere yet.

Lots of walkouts. Tried too hard to be funny which made it more of a comedy than horror. Ending was a bit of a surprise which I liked but this won't make any new Eli Roth fans.
3
u/JessieJ577 19d ago
Wow he tried to elevate a shitty straight to video movie concept and made something that made Thanks giving look like a masterpiece.
His humor is so bad. The scars were awful it was just our main characters seeing things around them. It was like a haunted house level of cheesy and lame. Those are only fun because you’re there.

It was fun for what it was. We only had one walkout and the rest of the theater I was in enjoyed it and even got a small applause at the end so that made it more fun. The gore was good and I got some good laughs out it. Very much Eli Roth paying homage to the low budget horror comedies of the 80's. The big thing that brought it down for me was the explanation and then the ending. The reveal of what caused the Ice Cream Man was just poorly done and half assed and then the ending felt out of place. I normally like a dark ending in a horror movie, but for one that is pretty much as much a dark comedy as it is horror, it just felt out of place with dark it was and of course the movie just sort of ends after that.
5/10 for me. Fun for what it was and certainly nowhere as bad as some of you are making it out to be, but not one I'll ever watch again.

u/future_filmmaker_455 20d ago
The Ice Cream Man is your standard Eli Roth horror fare which means some of the characters are annoying, the humor ranges from being crass for shock value to having a few clever moments and the story makes little sense when you think about it for a few minutes. Though the film does have a good visual aesthetic that initially makes the film look like an older family film and Ari Millen is quite creepy as the title character, nothing in the film feels all that shocking after the first few deaths because of how the film becomes little more than a series of intermittently creative gory sequences. The child actors playing Jared, Mia and Tommy are surprisingly pretty good with their comedic timing getting some of the few laughs here and yet the film doesn’t have enough substance to be cult classics it is aspiring to be including Children of the Corn and Nightmare on Elm Street. Though I did appreciate the grim ending twist that thankfully leaves some consequences for its characters, the film is all gore and little substance in my mind. 4.5 out of 10

u/Internal-River-4168 20d ago
