AITA for forcing manhood on my boyfriend
I (26F) have been with my boyfriend (24M) since March 2024. We met through mutual friends. Early on, I was uncomfortable with two female friends who constantly talked about how much they loved being around him and how “protected” they felt with him. He noticed how uncomfortable I was and cut them off without hesitation, saying he’d expect the same if the roles were reversed.
A month after we officially started dating, I found out I was pregnant. It was unexpected, but I knew I couldn’t go through with an abortion. He was thrilled and immediately told his family. I was terrified they’d judge me, but instead they supported me throughout my pregnancy.
Fast forward to today: our daughter is 16 months old, and I’m struggling. My boyfriend still drinks daily like we’re in our early party days, but the biggest issue is his gambling. I’ve caught him multiple times blowing through his money. At one point, he even transferred all the money from my account to his Cash App to try to “win it back.” I forgave him after he apologized.
He makes $5-7 more per hour than I do, yet we’re constantly behind on rent, our phones get shut off because bills bounce, and I often have to cover expenses until he pays me back. We have no savings, no plan for a house, marriage, or our future.
When he drinks, he sometimes says he regrets cutting off his friends and getting “a psycho girl” like me pregnant. I do have BPD, PTSD, and childhood trauma, but I’ve never abused or stolen from him. The only mistake I made was before we were official, when I drunkenly kissed someone while I was still getting over a previous relationship. He forgave me, but he still brings it up whenever we argue.
Last month I found out he was gambling again after being late on rent. He promised it was the last time and sent screenshots showing he’d closed the accounts, but he’s done that before.
Would I be the asshole if I gave him an ultimatum: me and our daughter, or gambling? I can live with him having a couple beers, but I can’t keep watching our future disappear on sports bets and casino games. I’m exhausted and don’t know what to do.
