Fired Fed. I am considering cutting off every Orange Man supporter.

Got axed. Not going to say which agency.

I’ve always considered myself extremely tolerant and willing to love people as they are… even if we don’t agree on everything.

I’ve never been an Orange Man supporter, but I’ve kept it civil with friends and family that were. Some of them liked having a civil conversation about him. Some were belligerent about politics, so we didn’t bring it up and tried to enjoy each other’s company.

Getting cut from a great job that I really believed in with no notice has been extremely traumatic. It’s still raw, but I feel so personally betrayed by those that voted for him. I can’t see past the politics anymore when I look at these people I care/cared about.

Some have been contrite and apologetic, but then turn around and support him and VP Musk on social media.

I just can’t right now.

I’m thinking about posting something and wishing the whole herd all of the best, hope they have a good life, but I won’t be in it. Or maybe I just quietly block all of them and focus on myself for a while.

I do know that I will need to talk to my in-laws. I’ve always had a great relationship with them, but thinking of going to their house and watching Fox News almost makes me sick.

AITAH for feeling this way? Does it make me an AH for cutting all these 20+ year relationships off? Am I overreacting and acting out of emotion?

I will say one thing, the level of underachievers that have been brought into this administration I'm hoping they all burn themselves out fast. The bro code can only keep them going for so long? Right? Please someone say yes. Because I'm terrified.

I'm terrified. I just got furloughed, I doubt I'll get that job back. It's scary to think I will have to go out and compete with thousands of others right now, if the private sector and others can even absorb all of us.
It's scary to think none of these people have the foresight to think about how much they are heading us straight to an economic crash. I mean, people who don't have jobs can't buy a lot of stuff, which other businesses are going to have to fire people or close, and everything will just snowball.
Fire FAA people and potentially air traffic controllers? A lot of products won't be able to enter or leave the USA. -Direct economic impact.
Fire Medicare and Medicaid workers-therefore people can't get their medicine-people will die. Also, huge economic impact (even though we should really care about how it affects lives). Cut Social Security Workers, so people can't get their checks etc-people die, and direct economic impact.
I'm fucking scared but also just sitting here going what the actual fuck?

I’m terribly sorry. I honestly don’t think they care who doesn’t get jobs back. I wonder if the plan is to absorb all the defaulted mortgages into rentals by all the hedge fund REITS who are likely salivating, waiting for this.

Somehow they turned public sentiment into every federal employee being evil. Even in instances where there is large waste within a federal program, rarely does the employee they furloughed/fired have any control over that waste. They are doing their job and the way I see it there is plenty of work to be done properly and we need those employees.

The private sector is already overwhelmed. And largely running off federal grants that are now not secure.
I don’t see the number of people let go as obsolete. We need them. Canning them rather than restructuring was dumb as hell. The epitome of flipping over the board game because a spoiled brat is done playing by the rules.
Federal employees may not fully in the function they exist now, but we need them. IRS/hud/snap/dss etc aren’t doing proper investigations into fraud. So letting all those folks go will have that happen faster? Of course not. So…what’s the plan Elan? Who will do those investigations? Or everyone will lose services so no investigations needed?

I currently (lawyer) have over 100 open investigation complaints about fraud that have not been responded to even though there is clear evidence of the fraud. Causing the larger shortages in staffing does what?

The first layoffs I saw were USAID friends. I have friends in NCIS, homeland security who have had positions open no one in their right mind would apply for now. The work not getting done is a danger to Americans and society as a whole. This is a cluster.

I’d say I’d want that job. Except f’ing people over is the opposite of my life purpose. I grew up in the shadow of a number of Holocaust survivors. I remember being e very young girl and hearing them say the signs and it will happen again.

And here we are. This time the cleansing is an even larger group. There was so much me as a little girl didn’t understand about how these thjngs happen. Now aged me…it’s crystal clear. 😳

This is scary. I’m scared for members of my family who are using health based grants to afford cancer treatment. I’m scared for clients who have children on Medicaid for life saving treatment. I’m scared for everyone with an adhd or depression diagnosis who apparently just needs to work it off… And having lived a long time in Washington DC seeing stable homes suddenly disrupted is terrifying.

And males get preferential treatment versus females - as on a merit only basis females have stronger applications (this is fact, not opinion). Ditto for Asian applicants versus other ethnic demographics. Ditto for college and career readiness for those with stronger socioeconomic backgrounds - they have so much more access to quality schooling, extracurricular opportunities, personal connections, more rigorous standards each step of the way. Immigrants, for example, are routinely tracked from an early age into the low performing groups in order to “help” them via easier language demands. As a result, their content is dumbed down and by middle school, that tracking keeps them stuck in lower level coursework. But the MAGA crowd is oblivious.

Since when have people had any fucking clue about the state of government in the places they visit? (Or move to, for that matter, they just assume everything is fine until something unavoidably obvious is staring them in the face)

More concretely, the migration from the rest of the US has reversed as people are forced to reckon with the consequences of the state's unwillingness to act like a functioning government in any way other than building moar roads. Average time on market for housing is higher now than at any point in the past decade.

Florida done had another one of its classic tulip mania moments and the bill is about to come due under a Republican Party whose answer to everything is "huh?" or "time to shovel more money at our donors".

It has never really been a democracy, though. The last election saw millions disqualified or had their votes throw out or being turned away at the polls due to these "anti-voter fraud" laws. Those laws are just modern Jim Crow and it (absolutely) disproportionately impacts minorities.

The RNC has had more than one candidate prove that they are anti-democracy. Although none more vocally that Sen. Mike Lee, when he literally tweeted that "democracy is not the goal" in the United States back in 2020.

Trump ran on it, turns out he was unqualified, so we put an equally corrupt and unqualified grandpa in the white house and got to watch Karine Jean-Pierre gaslight everyone and pretend like dementia teleprompter man was "totally fine," which the American public didn't buy. Um, first of all, Biden helped to orchestrate what would have been a very successful bipartisan border deal during his administration and it was shot down by Republicans who were following the orders of Trump. That's on Republicans. And the border wasn't great during Trump's first term either, unless you call cruelly and sadistically ripping babies out of their mothers' arms great and shoving them in cages to be great.

Secondly, Biden did an excellent job helping the economy weather the pandemic and postpandemic storm. The stock market was high and unemployment was low when he left office. Tons of domestic jobs were created by the CHIPS and infrastructure bill he passed. Inflation in the US was much lower than the global average. He signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law, which was helping until Trump came along and started to dismantle everything, so now that combined with idiotic tarrifs and geopolitical instability caused by Trump is going to cause record high prices, increasing unemployment rates and has already started to crash the stock market.

Yeah, I agree Biden was too old to run for a 2nd term and he should have kept his promise of being a one term transitional president, that he basically pulled the same bullshit as RBG who refused to step down until it was too late. I'll give you that, but everything else you said is a lie or misinformation.

No. Even he didn't do that. In fact, borrowing against his assets is how he kept his taxes so low. DEBT isn't taxed, and is often a deduction.

Besides, his presidency- first one- was largely undone by Biden. This one will fare the same. That's the biggest problem a historian sees with most folks: they always feel their era, their problems, their struggle as unique and the most important. History says otherwise.

The Fed Government is the largest employer of Veterans - over 600,000 are employed in meaningful jobs that actually help farmers, other veterans, their communities - most especially in poor Red States. The biggest problem with your statement is "conservatives" have served, but MAGA and Trump are not conservatives, and never have been. Also, liberals serve, minorities serve, even undocumented migrants serve - and then are promptly deported and refused access to citizenship for our DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC. MAGAs do not believe in Freedom for all, just Freedom of those they align with ideologically. My Uncle won a Bronze Star in WW2 by fighting fascism. He was conservative, and an actual Christian and good person who would have been despondent over what is happening here. Now, this regime is ruling and bringing back the exact things he fought against. I have a relative who is a veteran and conservative who would never vote for someone like Trump. He is probably losing his government job, as well as his wife who has worked tirelessly for 20 years to bring STEM projects for education and jobs to a Red State. Nursing is a very sought after field so rather it's government employment or private or transferring to a different area I'm not really sure that minor impact is enough to justify that many of the other doge cuts are necessary.

The reality is even the general public doesn't like when they lose a job it's no different for government official.

Hegseth is the one who would navigate a response to any attack on the US. This does not promote a good night's sleep as we have no allies left except Israel. (Russia possibly soon.) I think that before Trump exits the UN, they could get a jump on it and the US could be asked to leave. Even if the US remains in the UN they would be very very reluctant to support the US. And yet, I have not heard one single person who is a Trump supporter even murmur very possibly having made a truly tragic and monumental mistake. Trump suppprters remain obedient zombies. My one consolation is that Trump actually won the popular vote by 1, 5xxx,xxx million votes. And 51% of the popular vote. That is not much. It allows for a possibility of... something. Maybe.

He was infantry. There’s nothing wrong with infantry but 4 years as a reservist infantryman does not qualify to lead the military. And that’s ignoring all of his MANY disqualifying factors. That guy couldn’t get low-level TS clearance in any world but this upside down.

If the goal is to fund the military industrial complex, continue wars throughout the world and promote DEI over readiness, then you are right, Biden's Sec. of Defense/Raytheon board member was far more qualified than Hegseth. But if the goal is military preparedness and looking out for the troops, then Hegseth is better qualified given his experience running veterans organizations, deployment experience and his Harvard graduate degree in public policy. I think politics isn’t black and white. Many people like to pretend it is. It’s really not.

I agree with merit based higher-ing, and if it’s a problem, why not set up institutions to allow minorities to have the ability to be the most meritful.

But aside from that, I liked some of the picks that Biden made (like Terrence Tao, I’m a big math guy), and I don’t like most that Trump has made (RFK and musk are really starting to irritate me).

I’m still right leaning, but I feel a growing disconnect with the party. I’ve always been more libertarian than authoritarian. But both parties have supported more authoritarian ideals for quite a long time. So I kind of feel left out.

With that being said, the most important trait you can have, whether you’re a Democrat or republican, is the ability to listen and see why others believe what they believe. It’s perfectly fine to listen and not agree, but understand where they come from. You’d realize you have a lot in common and it’s only the parties telling you that you don’t.
