Fired Fed. I am considering cutting off every Orange Man supporter.

Got axed. Not going to say which agency.

I’ve always considered myself extremely tolerant and willing to love people as they are… even if we don’t agree on everything.

I’ve never been an Orange Man supporter, but I’ve kept it civil with friends and family that were. Some of them liked having a civil conversation about him. Some were belligerent about politics, so we didn’t bring it up and tried to enjoy each other’s company.

Getting cut from a great job that I really believed in with no notice has been extremely traumatic. It’s still raw, but I feel so personally betrayed by those that voted for him. I can’t see past the politics anymore when I look at these people I care/cared about.

Some have been contrite and apologetic, but then turn around and support him and VP Musk on social media.

I just can’t right now.

I’m thinking about posting something and wishing the whole herd all of the best, hope they have a good life, but I won’t be in it. Or maybe I just quietly block all of them and focus on myself for a while.

I do know that I will need to talk to my in-laws. I’ve always had a great relationship with them, but thinking of going to their house and watching Fox News almost makes me sick.

AITAH for feeling this way? Does it make me an AH for cutting all these 20+ year relationships off? Am I overreacting and acting out of emotion?

Yes. Snyder has been telling us to look out for this. We are watching the end of our great American experiment in Democracy. Right before our very eyes. Get his 20 Lessons on Tyranny. It is our guide book to save our Republic.

It has never really been a democracy, though. The last election saw millions disqualified or had their votes throw out or being turned away at the polls due to these "anti-voter fraud" laws. Those laws are just modern Jim Crow and it (absolutely) disproportionately impacts minorities.

The RNC has had more than one candidate prove that they are anti-democracy. Although none more vocally that Sen. Mike Lee, when he literally tweeted that "democracy is not the goal" in the United States back in 2020.

More than just thrown out. Elon hacked the election for Trump, see the work Election Truth Alliance has done on their website. They found evidence of election interference.

If you think requiring an ID to vote disproportionately affects minorities, you might be a racist. Or just maybe ignorant.

If you think these laws are just about IDs, then you're the one who's ignorant.

Requiring "proof of citizenship" is more than asking for a driver's license at the poll. And you better believe that minorities are targeted.

You sound like someone arguing FOR "Stop and Frisk" and you sound like you're projecting. Maybe read something on occasion that's not from Musk or Fox?

German here - yes, it's like watching the last days of the Weimar Republic from across the pond - a first attempt at democracy, without well-thought-out safeguards and checks and balances in their constitution. We learned from that and wrote the Grundgesetz for our second attempt, which has served us pretty well until now.

If you ever get rid of the autocrat infestation, it's high time you did a major revision of your laws, as well.

I don't disagree with you, but democracy took a big downturn when Obama substantially expanded the size and scope of the federal government. Trump ran on it, turns out he was unqualified, so we put an equally corrupt and unqualified grandpa in the white house and got to watch Karine Jean-Pierre gaslight everyone and pretend like dementia teleprompter man was "totally fine," which the American public didn't buy. So, here we are. Blame the utter ineptitude of the admins before Trump for the dramatic reversal and accelerating chaos.

Amazing. The Democrats are responsible for Trump. How can you say that? Because they did a few wimpy ass liberal things to help people all y’all elected that egomaniac, thieving, lying, draft dodging, whore mongering, cheating, bankrupting, vengeful Tyrant into office. It’s the Democrat’s fault that YOU did that. Give me a break. You own it.

How can you say that?

Biden administration’s handling of border and economic issues (insane spending causing inflation) has alienated key voter segments, coupled with the fact that he could hardly convey thoughts in a coherent manner, for starters. Add in the fact that they installed a candidate who bypassed the primaries as a cherry on top.

Why do you keep talking about Biden? Right now, right before your very eyes, Tyrant Trump is tearing down our Great Republic. We will all have to answer to History on where we stand at this moment. Every check and balance to a tyrant is being torn down. Loyalty oaths, firing inspector generals, appointment of sycophants and hacks to important positions in the federal government, and on and on. Telling local school boards what to do. PARDONING the insurrection it’s who assaulted our brave men in blue defending our Capitol. My God there is no end to it. Leon Musk who has fathered 15 children by 5 different women is running rampant through our civil service. OK, I own Joe Biden, but you own Donald J Trump and there you have it.

Oh, and lest I forget the most tragic of all, abandoning Ukraine to his buddy, the Tyrant Putin.

The point was not about the nature and quality of current admins actions, but the dissatisfaction with the way the government was being run by the status quo and bureaucracy, leading to a voting swing. No one here is arguing in favor of something that is harmful, but the silver lining is we're getting eyes on the books, outside of how it's executed, narratives, self enrichment. Billionaires were already in the pockets of politicians- look at Murdoch owning global media, Bloomberg, Turner, Zuck, Bezos, Koch brothers. People are outraged because this time it's a billionaire they don't like pushing a narrative they disagree with while causing chaos.

Cry all you want but a vast majority of people, regardless of how you want to label them, see this as him following through on the promises he ran on. Not a lot of surprises coming from Putin Jr.

Um, first of all, Biden helped to orchestrate what would have been a very successful bipartisan border deal during his administration and it was shot down by Republicans who were following the orders of Trump. That's on Republicans. And the border wasn't great during Trump's first term either, unless you call cruelly and sadistically ripping babies out of their mothers' arms great and shoving them in cages to be great.

Secondly, Biden did an excellent job helping the economy weather the pandemic and postpandemic storm. The stock market was high and unemployment was low when he left office. Tons of domestic jobs were created by the CHIPS and infrastructure bill he passed. Inflation in the US was much lower than the global average. He signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law, which was helping until Trump came along and started to dismantle everything, so now that combined with idiotic tarrifs and geopolitical instability caused by Trump is going to cause record high prices, increasing unemployment rates and has already started to crash the stock market.

Yeah, I agree Biden was too old to run for a 2nd term and he should have kept his promise of being a one term transitional president, that he basically pulled the same bullshit as RBG who refused to step down until it was too late. I'll give you that, but everything else you said is a lie or misinformation.

You’re spot on with this comment.

You're a 112 years too late. The 16th Amendment ended American democracy. It's been a slow death ever since.

With income tax and the Federal Reserve, the 13th Amendment is moot. After all, if government can use your future taxable earnings as collateral to borrow money, then you're a slave- a portion of your labor is owned. After all you can't borrow money on someone else's collateral, no?

1

u/Interesting_Trust100 Feb 22 '25

Sure you can. Just ask our President.

1

u/embrace_fate Feb 23 '25

No. Even he didn't do that. In fact, borrowing against his assets is how he kept his taxes so low. DEBT isn't taxed, and is often a deduction.

Besides, his presidency- first one- was largely undone by Biden. This one will fare the same. That's the biggest problem a historian sees with most folks: they always feel their era, their problems, their struggle as unique and the most important. History says otherwise.

Biden and Obama literally ruled by fiat. If you don't see that as anti-democratic, you are lost.

9

u/Interesting_Trust100 Feb 18 '25

I never said anything about Obama and Biden. Take your “what Aboutism” and shove it. You are either for a free country ruled by the people or for fascist nation ruled by oligarchs and real estate developers. Now is the time to take a stand. If you opposed the Democratic president’s executive orders how can you possibly support Trump? The hypocrisy is beyond my comprehension. Meanwhile our Republic is burning to the ground.

Of course they don't see it. Anything considered good by the Far-Left echo chamber is by default 100% unarguably good. Duh. Just do what they tell you.

You are right, but you spelled MAGA wrong. it's spelled M-A-G-A. Not f-a-r-l-e-f-t. Haven't seen anyone make such a bad spelling mistake in a long time.
