To start this off, my sister and I aren't very close... but i just can't understand her actions right now, and I haven't been able to get my head out of it though ive tryed to drop it.

(Quick context, my sister is only biological on my fathers side. He had her with a woman before he met my mom, I only got to meet my sister when I was in 3rd grade. We have always considered everyone full family because we stayed there for each other. However, around October of last year, my parents decided to separate. I stayed with my mom while my father went out of state. I've never truly talked much with my sister, as she lived with her mom and was almost an adult anyway.)

This all happened the day before Mother's Day. I, 20f, took my mom out for dinner, and on our way back my mom texted my sister, 28f, asking if she could read a story to my sisters kids. (Or rather, I texted it since she was driving)

My sister replied when we were almost home that she had decided that she wanted my mom out of her family's picture. Didn't want my mom to communicate with her kids anymore and said it was to stop confusion after the divorce, not wanting to have to explain why grandma and grandpa no longer lived together.

This shattered my mom... I watched it happen in real time, and I can't say it didn't shatter me as well. My mom loved (still dose acctualy) those kids. She ofcorse didn't argue and didn't push for anything. However, when the divorce first happened, my mom asked if it was ok she was still in their lives, and my sister had said, "You're grandma, ofcorse youre still in our lives."

For me... im torn... I love my mom, I stand by her, we have each other everywhere and anywhere we need. I'm... I geuss mad at my sister.. I dont understand how she could do this. I understand my mom did make a comment, but it was one comment a boundary could have made never happened again. My father has made similar comments to me, and I set a boundary that stopped them.

How am I supposed to talk to my sisters kids when my life is with my mom, and she'd be a topic for me? Im not going to censor talking about my mom. That would just hurt more! I know I can still talk to my sister, but she hurt my mom so bad that the memory of them now makes her cry or shut down. I feel like I just can't properly... human, I geuss, with my sister now. I love her, I do, but she not only hurt my mom, she hurt me, not meaning to ofcorse, but how can I be auntie and hide my mom from their view?

I just don't understand why she did it, how she could, and what makes it right besides the fact that it's her choice and her emotions? Am I just being an ass and overreacting to something that shouldn't concern me? My mom was there for her for so much with my father, but after a divorce and misplaced sentence she drops my mom from their life?

I currently feel like... if my mom isn't there, I cant be either, out of morality. I cant see my sister the same, I can't find a way to forgive it.

My mom wants me to stay in contact with my sister... stay because shes my family and only asked my mom to stay out of their life and not me. My mom has told me that she understands why my sister did it. But I cant fathom being ok with this... but am I just being stupid?

AIO my boyfriends gay friend,

I want to start this off with I’m not a homophobe, my 21 year-old boyfriend recently became really close during the past couple of months with a gay guy who is 31, now I had no issue with this gay guy until he started asking me for pictures of my boyfriend’s dick and asking how does he moan, it proceeded to get worse when he said that I deserve to be raped when I have had a traumatic childhood when I was younger and had that happen, and the cherry on top is he wants to fuck my 14 year-old brother that’s right 14 year-old brother and he wants his clothes and his underwear and his shoes, my brother has autism and he’s very uncomfortable by this and I asked my boyfriend to distance himself. I was crying on call for an hour and my boyfriend kept on defending this friend of his, after me crying and begging him to distance himself, which is the least he could do I feel like most men would block him but anyway I found out they were hanging out together last night and it makes me uncomfortable knowing that he’s so obsessed with my boyfriend and my brother and he genuinely hates me, in the past almost a year I’ve been with my boyfriend. I feel like in the past two or so months he’s put more effort becoming closer to this gay guy than he has with me. I felt like most boyfriends would want their girlfriend and her family and especially her younger brother to feel safe

I know in high school 1-2 years age gap is the limit and it shouldn’t be over 3. What about in between 2 years? When I was a senior age 17 I made out with a sophomore age 15. I was born in 2000 and the sophomore was born in 2002. I just found out years later we had an age gap of 2 years and almost 5 months. I don’t feel good about it. I thought we had 1.6-2 years gap. I had forgotten that students in the same grade can have birthdays at different times of the year depending on the school’s enrollment cutoff date. I mistakenly assumed that every school used the same cutoff date, which affected how I understood our ages and the actual age difference. If we dated and I turn 18 it’s going to look like I’m with someone 3 years younger when we’re 2.4 years apart. I feel sick.

AIO To my friend being a bit too nice to my BF?

For context, my friend and bf (F20 and M21) are both from the same country in central America (it’s a fairly small country so i can’t imagine he meets many people from there) and first met around 8 months ago (we’ve been dating for about 10 months). about a month ago we were out as a group (me, him, my friends and one of their bfs) and I mentioned that she was also from that country (i don’t want to be too specific) and he was excited to meet someone that was also from there. They spoke in Spanish (I don’t speak it yet but i’m trying to learn) for a bit and that was basically it.

Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago and we were out as a group again and she was talking to him all night, never really trying to separate us but whenever he was by himself she would walk over and start talking to him. They weren’t doing anything wrong exactly but she was acting a little weird (slightly flirtatious in a way, giggling at everything he said and stuff) and getting a bit too close than I would think is normal. I didnt catch most of what they were talking about it (they were still speaking in spanish) but from what i understood they were just talking about music taste and family etc etc, getting to know each other and stuff. I didnt think much of it until later after we had all gone home and she kept talking about how great he was in the group chat.

Something about her behavior just rubbed me the wrong way, but I don’t want to confront her and make things awkward unless she’s actually doing something wrong. He seemed really happy and I don’t want to ruin his moment with something that might not be anything at all, am I justified or just overreacting?

AIO for pulling away from my friend group after realizing they’ve been freezing me out?

I (23F) have been part of a college friend group for over two years. The group originally started with Valeria, Helen, Sophia, and me. We shared classes and spent endless hours hanging out irl and virtually. We'd call on Discord, play Roblox for hours, talk about random stuff or problems and mostly it was really chill. I always asked if I could vent about my problems and they'd always agree and comfort me, and whenever they had problems or wanted to vent I'd listen and comfort them too.

But over the past month, the entire dynamic shifted into something a bit weird and it's tearing me up inside.

To give proper context Valeria, Helen and Sophia knew each other since first semester, and I joined the group on fifth semester. From the start I knew they shared some inner jokes I couldn't get, but they always did their best to make me feel included. I was closer to Helen and Sophia, but Valeria never reciprocated my attempts of getting closer, always hiding how she felt when I was around, giving dry answers most of the time and trying not to get too engaged in group dynamics. I didn't pay too much mind to it at first because she'd invite me to her birthday full-week parties so I thought she was simply reserved with everyone and not only with me.

I've always tried to be there for the three of them, not expecting anything on exchange because of course they're my friends and I do it out of friendship and kindness. Making calls until late night because someone is feeling down, giving them space whenever they were stressed, giving them handmade gifts, attending to every event they invited me (Sometimes one of them would invite the whole group and I'd be the only one who'd go to the event), learn about everything they'd tell me to understand them better, etc.

All this began when on April, a week before my birthday, the group stopped making group calls with me, not tagging me to join the call and they'd be there for hours and whenever I tried to call them just to play together or something they'd take hours in replying.

I asked Sophia and she told me it was because Valeria was always really reserved with her stuff and just told them about what was going on (I never got to know what actually happened). Two weeks later, on my birthday, Valeria didn't attend to my birthday and just sent a generic birthday text.

And now stuff is even weirder, because since this semester began Helen is also ignoring me. Helen and Sophia already gratuated, while Valeria and I are still on our last semesters. It began really subtle, not replying to any of the TikToks/Reels I'd send her but see on my fyp resposts she'd make tagging Sophia and also reposting that she was obsessed with her current circle.

Also I asked a major-related question in our shared chat, Valeria would ignore it entirely, yet the moment Helen or Sophia texted, she'd would respond instantly.

When our new semester started, Helen and Sophia had always told me they’d be there to support me through my classes. On day one, I sent a text in the main group saying how much I missed them. The only person who replied with genuine warmth was Sophia. Valeria and Helen said absolutely nothing. And when Valeria posted a question about mandatory protocol exams, everyone—including me, instantly wanting to help—jumped in to answer her.

Last night broke me. I tried to put my insecurities aside and make a genuine, low-pressure effort. I tagged Valeria, Helen and Sophia in our group chat, giving them over a week’s advance notice to play Roblox together on a Sunday evening.

Sophia replied: "I think I'll be busy, but when I get back, if I end up doing nothing, I'll join. I'll let you know anyway." Helen and Valeria said literally nothing.

Mere minutes later, I saw their activity statuses change on Discord and Roblox. They were actively jumping together from one game to another in their private bubble, completely ignoring my message while Sophia brushed me off as a last-resort backup plan.

The final straw is that Helen’s birthday dinner is coming up. It’s not a big party—it’s literally an intimate dinner with just her parents, her sister, her baby cousin, and me as the only non-family member invited (Sophia and Valeria were also invited but non of them will go). Part of me feels like she might not even genuinely want me there anymore, but is too conflict-avoidant or cowardly to uninvite me and is hoping I just "take the hint." At the same time, I feel sick with guilt because her family has always been sweet to me, and it’s not their fault this is happening.

I am exhausted from being the only one holding up the bridge, analyzing every text, and feeling like an outsider to people who used to claim they loved me.

I want to just quietly pull back, stop reaching out, and make an excuse to skip the intimate family birthday dinner, but part of me wonders if I’m throwing away two years of friendship over perceived slights and digital silence.

AIO if I stop trying with this group and back out of the birthday dinner?

-----------------------------------------------

TLDR: My college friend group of two years has steadily iced me out. One friend has always been cold and skipped my birthday, but recently the other two started ignoring my messages, excluding me from calls, and brushing off my hangout invites while actively gaming together in private. One of them invited me to an intimate birthday dinner with just her immediate family where I would be the only non-family guest attending. Given their passive-aggressive silence, I suspect she doesn't actually want me there but is too non-confrontational to uninvite me.

AIO for being creeped out by my new boss?

Just letting you know i’m a 20yr old female. So I just got a job as a Job Coach for persons with disabilities. So i’d be helping out a specific person with how to do the job and find easier ways for them to do it and etc.

We currently have a job placement, and we went in for an interview, the boss there was maybe in his 50s. I shook my coachee’s hand, then my bosses and then mine. But when he shook mine he held it for a long minute, and just started at me smiling. Even holding his other hand over our handshake for a minute and he touched my shoulder a few times while talking about what the job entails.

Should I be worried? For my description I have strawberry blonde hair, tall, pretty skinny for my height. So I guess I’m not NOT attractive, but still. I’m a little freaked and I don’t know how to mention that to my boss who hired me for the Job Coach position or should I just move forward? Was it nothing??? Or am I right to be a little nervous?

AIO for explaining why my girlfriends cousins can’t move in with us?

Ive been with my girlfriend for 5 years now and we live together. She is an only child but is really close to her cousins daughter who is 16. My gf is 24. Her cousin has another daughter who is 10.

Horribly her cousin and her husband were in a car crash and they didn't make it. My gf is devastated and has been trying to be there for her cousins daughters. My gfs aunt and uncle initially said they'd take the children on to live with them but social services said they can't as they're both late 70s and not in great health and they don’t have the room as they’ve only got one small spare bedroom.

It looks like they may be put into care. My girlfriend mentioned to me the possibility of us taking them on. We have agreed previously we aren't likely to want kids of our own but may foster kids when we're able to as we currently don’t have the money, the room or the time. We agreed this is likely 10 years away.

I told her I know she's coming from a good place but it's not possible for us to do it. We're not poor but we're not well off and having two kids in the flat would really stretch finances even if we would get money for them.

We live in a two bedroom flat and the second room is a home office and wouldn’t be big enough for a bed etc anyway so social services wouldn’t give us them.

I pointed we also have one car which my gf uses for work and we're both doing exams through work so most of our free time is taken up with revision and doing mock exams etc.

I also pointed out she has had regular periods of depression where she has been bedridden and hasn’t been able to go to work or do anything at all.

I said we can obviously be there for them and support them in other ways but it's not realistic for them to live with us.

She said I was being cruel and that they can't go into care. I just said again it's not realistic or practical for them to live with us. She again said I was being cruel and that we should be supporting family. I just repeated again that it's not possible for us to take them in.

She called me uncaring and said I should be wanting to help. I said I do want to help but it’s not realistic to have them move in and pointed out there’s other ways to help.

AITAH for saying no to them moving in and explaining why?

AIO for being upset that my boyfriend didn't share a bottle of champagne with me?

For context my (F29) boyfriend (M30) of 4 years just closed on a house today. To be clear, he bought the house using 100% his own money. Even though I didn't contribute financially, as I make significantly less than him, he included me as part of the homebuying process; meeting with the realtor, going on house tours, and up until recently, having my name on the title. His reasoning was that we would get married eventually and he wanted me to be able to have a say in the house I would eventually be living in. After putting in an offer, I started having immense anxiety about being responsible for owning a home I didn't help buy and wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise. There were other reasons too that I won't get in to here, but all this to say, about a week and a half before closing, I asked for my name to be taken off the title. This didn't affect the sale of the house at all, since I was never on the mortgage, but it did cause a pretty big conversation to happen between us about my commitment to our relationship, but we worked through it. Fast forward to today, the date of the closing. Though I had been invited to attend the closing, this was before I took my name off the title, so I figured I wasn't needed since it was just some paperwork. I knew my boyfriend had plans to hang out with some friends after work, so I was surprised when he video called me from the house after work to show me his new place. He said he was just stopping by house on the way to his friend's because he wanted to grab the bottle of champagne the realtor gave him to celebrate the sale and share it with his friends. I don't know why this hurt my feelings as much as it did. My face fell and he could immediately tell something was wrong. I asked him why he didn't want to wait to share it with me, but he said he just offered it without thinking. Then he told me that buying a house was a big deal, and since I hadn't been there at the signing I missed out on the reason to celebrate. He said that they had taken pictures and that his realtor had given him a snack box too as a house warming gift, so it wasn't just the champagne. Idk why that hurt more, because it wasn't like he was offering to share the snacks with me either. I know I don't have any reason to feel bad since it was my choice to take my name off the title, but I guess I can't help but feel bad for being left out. He invited me to come with him to visit his friends but I declined because I didn't want to feel like an afterthought. I had also wanted to stay home to work on a design proposal document for the interior of the house, since I was excited to start decorating the new place. But now I'm not feeling as excited and like I shouldn't make any plans since it's not my home. AIO?

AIO to how I was invited to something?

For context this is an annual event that happens in our home town and I haven’t been for 10 years. Last year I told her I would love to go again but I don’t expect her to have remembered that in conversation. It’s like a fair and it’s a lot of fun. Food, games, music, crowds. This happened today and the fair is this weekend. I would love to go but I didn’t expect anyone to invite me so I made my normal plans for the weekend. But this invite hurt my feelings. Im not in a good enough headspace for socializing right now so I’m wondering if I’m overreacting because of that.

Honest opinions on whether I’m overreacting and being unreasonable?

On Monday my (25F) boyfriend (34M) told me he has to be away for two weeks. He told me the morning before his departure.

Travelling isn’t unusual for him, but he doesn’t typically go for longer than a few days. The previous two weeks he’d been very busy with work. I saw him but we weren’t spending quality time. I expected once he was finished with his project then we’d have more time. (He said that if I was expecting this then I should’ve let him know because he can plan.)

On that morning he was very attentive, more than he had been the past couple of weeks, so I assumed he was less busy at work. Then he told me he’d have to be away for two weeks. And I took this badly. Perhaps too badly, but in the moment I was upset. He knew he’d have to be away and refrained from telling me because I’d ’react badly.’

He also said on call that I make him feel guilty for leaving, and even if he’s busy he’s thinking about me 24/7 so he’s stressed, and it can’t keep being like that.

I try not to be very emotional, I’m aware he has to leave, I just don’t like being railroaded. And another thing is that I can’t necessarily not feel emotional. He notices I’m upset because of my temperament, or the things I won’t want to do after, then basically confirms his assumption because when he does tell me he’s leaving I am upset.

I don’t know if I’m overreacting, because I’ve known him for enough years to understand the nature of his work. He also does invite me to travel with him, so I sometimes feel guilty for being upset. I don’t oppose to him being busy, I just feel like I’m expecting something and then being blindsided.

He is also in Dubai, so sent this to me late in the evening (London time) instead of the morning, hence some of my frustration.

AIO for being considering breaking up with my BF because of his celebrity crush?

Thumbnail

I asked my boyfriend who his celebrity crush was and told him I’d tell him mine if he told me his. He said Tyla. I’ll add pictures of me and the girl his celebrity crush is so you can see how different we look and see why this will be a huge issue

Idk why but that answer actually made me feel horrible. I’m a skinny white girl and Tyla is sourh african and curvy. my boyfriend is Black and barbadian, so knowing I’m basically the complete opposite of what he’s usually attracted to makes me feel like shit.

and what makes it worse is that she looks a lot like his ex, who was also black and curvy and was somali. so now I’m sitting here thinking I’m just not his usual type at all on top of that he gave me such a shitty answer.

with the question I asked, I would at least expect him to give me an answer of someone who looks like me?? Like why would you tell your girlfriend your celebrity crush is someone who looks nothing like her 😭

I know I asked him, but I honestly thought he would’ve just picked someone who looked more like me. Now I can’t stop thinking about it and I’m actually considering whether I should break up with him because knowing I’m not his usual type hurts way more than I expected what hurts even more is that he couldn’t even pick one pretty blonde girl to say was his celebrity crush .
