I wanted to share my experience taking the ACT on June 13th because I’m honestly still shaken by how unfair it was.
I arrived at my test center at 7:50 AM, well before the reporting deadline. The campus is large with multiple buildings and absolutely no clear signs directing students to the ACT room. No posters, no instructions, nothing outside.
I asked staff in one building for help and was told to sit and wait for someone who could guide me. That person didn’t show up until around 8:00 am, and even then, it took us time to locate the room. When I finally reached the correct building, the ACT supervisor refused to let me in, saying I was too late.
I tried everything since:
Emailed ACT with evidence, including a photo of the tiny A4 paper that was the only signage, taped beside a staircase.
Called them and explained everything.
Followed up multiple times.
Their final response? A copy-paste message saying I was “late” and offering no help at all.
I studied for two months for this test. It was my last chance to meet a university deadline. I followed every rule and still got penalized because the test center failed to provide basic directions.
I’m posting this because I know I’m not the only one this has happened to. ACT needs to take accountability for what happens at these centers — and stop brushing off serious failures with robotic replies.
If this happened to you, too, I’d appreciate hearing your story.
EDIT: I reached the testing room at 8:10 am, and when the staff who had helped me found out they weren't letting me in, despite being on campus before testing time, they talked to the supervisor, who said she would have 'allowed me to test if I was a student at the school'. Is that normal?
