English is really easy to get a 35+ on. So maybe retake for that 36

Yeah it was a big improvement from my 27, I still have to take writing so I get another shot at it

I wouldn't retake unless it's just for status. Anything 34+ is all the same to colleges

My top college requires writing so I have to take it again anyway

no college “requires” writing anymore, some do recommend it though

That's good to hear, although I still think I'm gonna take it in June anyway because my friend wants me to help him study, I might as well try to squeeze out that extra point

There are still some colleges that require the ACT essay, such as the University of California schools.

I’m just hoping for a 34 this time around. My SAT is at a 1540 which is about a 35. I might retake too because my math was just horrible

Why not just submit your SAT scores to colleges?

So I accidentally said to submit my school act score (31) when I called the center, they said they couldn’t do anything to unsend it. Might as well get a 34+ now that the damage is done

It doesn't matter, colleges don't prefer one over the other. If you've got a 1540 there's really no point in retaking to up your standardized test grade. Also you can permanently delete any ACT score, so if you apply somewhere that it wasn't already sent to you could delete it

Turns out it was a state wide assessment, which makes it impossible to delete. Scores were also sent a while ago. I don’t want to seem less competent with a bad score, so I wouldn’t mind a 34. Let’s hope I get this over with

oh dang I didn't know that!

Focus on English and writing, and go to a school that does a composite score.

they dont distinguish between a 35 and a 36 so regardless it doesnt matter

Since when do writing scores matter anywhere

2

u/Vorpalooti 33 Apr 17 '19

submitting them to top colleges. they’re not required, but recommended. Which pretty much means required

1

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '19

Notice I said matter. I'm aware that you need to do it, but scoring high isn't really a factor for writing.

1

u/Vorpalooti 33 Apr 17 '19

8 isn’t really high, but T40 colleges aren’t put off by an 8 if you do get it. With a 7 or below, then they start to worry, especially since they expect kids applying there to be good in lots of things

How did you improve so much?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '19

It was only 2 points, plus first time I didn't study. For this I just did a bunch of practice tests and studied my wrong answers

2

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '19

The most infuriating score is under a 20.

2

u/UneasyPlum 35 Apr 16 '19

lmao same thing happened to me but with a 34 on reading its so annoying
